Family / Re: NGO Withdraws Help After Woman Whose Husband Assaulted Her Cries For His Release by Addme: 4:11pm On Nov 09, 2023
Some things don't just add up. Something related happened in my area last Sunday where a man was caught sleeping with his wife's 13 years old younger sister. Guys gather beat the man and some of us stopped them from beating him and we were in the process of taking him to the Police Stations before the wife knelt down and started begging that we shouldn't do it. We initially refused but this woman was begging and crying profusely for her husband forgiveness.
I just left them to their issues, I no wan carry someone's issue for head.

theamazonguru:

Yoruba culture is the same everywhere.
When it comes to placenta, the parents think you might be careless with it,so they take it as their duty to handle. Except you are from a bad family that has other intentions.

And as for the naming ceremony, this has been a major issue, provided the father is alive the first naming ceremony is usually done in his place to honor him.
It's a cultural thing.
The man has seen his friends being honored with it, he also wants same. Nothing unusual here.

My parents were understanding, they gave me options . They were fine with my choice.
I only chose to do it at their place as a mark of honor.
Make una no too demonize this man.

Except there are hidden intentions we are yet to be aware of.
You are very correct, this is mostly done to honour the parents and it has become the custom.
Even if the father is late, they do it in his house(the family house) depending on the movement convenience. The man committed no crime.

Also, what is it with African parents and their children's placenta/umbilical cord?
What do they do with it?
That is how they go about, tying their children's destiny to some deity they know little to nothing of its origin.
Lol, though I don't know in other tribes but I think most Yoruba/parents bury it within the compound especially since that's his(Mohbad's) first born, the man would still think he has no experience in handling such. But fighting the wife over it is absurd, why not face your own child.

Celebrities / Why My Father-in-law Doesn’t Like Me — Mohbad’s Wife by Addme: 10:36am On Nov 09, 2023
Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba, the wife of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has revealed the reason why Mohbad’s father doesn’t like her.

She shared her perspective during her testimony at the Candide-Johnson Court House in Ita Elewa, Ikorodu.

In her testimony before the Lagos coroner’s inquest on Tuesday, Omowunmi disclosed that Mohbad’s father, Oladimeji Aloba, believed she was responsible for causing a rift between him and Mohbad, leading to their strained relationship.
The deterioration in her relationship with her father-in-law began after the birth of her son, Liam.

She told the coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, that Mohbad’s father became angry with her for Mohbad choosing not to have Liam’s naming ceremony in Ikorodu.

She narrated, “I used to have a very good relationship with my father-in-law before the birth of my son, Liam. In fact, I used to invite him to our house on many occasions
“But because Mohbad was angry with him over some of the things he was doing and his refusal to hold our son’s naming ceremony in Ikorodu, he became angry with me, thinking I was the one behind it all.

So he became my enemy and was not talking to me like before.”

Also, she narrated how she and Baba Mohbad used to be very close. Mohbad’s father had prayed for her to conceive Liam. She explained that their closeness was to such an extent that Mohbad’s father even brought his girlfriend to their rented apartment in Lekki. She never raised any objections because, in her view, it was his son’s house. The girlfriend in question differed from the stepmother at their family home, so Mohbad’s house served as their meeting point.

The problems started when she gave birth to Liam. According to Wunmi, the cause of their strained relationship was Liam’s placenta. She and Mohbad refused to hand over Liam’s placenta to Daddy Mohbad, leading to a series of arguments. Wunmi clarified that it was initially Mohbad’s decision not to hand over the placenta to his father, and she, as his wife, merely supported that decision.

Wunmi also addressed the allegations made by Baba Mohbad, claiming to have seen a blood-soaked bucket in Mohbad’s room. She refuted these claims, stating that it was all untrue. Mohbad’s brother, who lived with them, could testify that the “blood” was from a minor cut, and what was soaked up was water.
Wunmi expressed her frustration with people defaming her on social media for things she did not do. She also mentioned that Mohbad’s Canada visa was approved just a day before he died. Due to the threats she faced, she had to leave her husband’s house after his death. The next coroner inquest hearing has been rescheduled to November 15th.

Politics / Truth Committee Discovered Mass Grave Site In Anambra, Says Bianca Ojukwu by Addme: 7:18am On Nov 09, 2023
Bianca Ojukwu, a former ambassador and widow of Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, says the Anambra Truth, Justice and Peace Committee has uncovered a mass grave site in the state.

The truth, justice and peace committee was constituted in 2022 by Chukwuma Soludo, the state governor, to help address the secessionist agitations, insecurity and other challenges in the state.

Chidi Odinkalu, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and Ojukwu are the chairman and secretary respectively.

In a statement posted on Wednesday on her Facebook page, Ojukwu said during the course of its public hearing, the commission interrogated a total of 39 witnesses who testified on oath while 243 exhibits were collected.

She added that 322 persons were verified as killed or dead as a result of violence as testified by the witnesses.

“The commission also met with 31 petitioners, including 11 organisations, 19 communities and one individual during the marathon sittings which lasted from Oct. 26 to Nov. 3,” the statement reads.

“18 persons have been categorically identified as missing or disappeared.

“In the course of the proceedings, the gruesome discovery of a mass grave site was brought by testimonies, to the attention of the Commission.

“Chairman of the Commission Prof Chidi Odinkalu mandated that the suspected mass-grave site be sealed for forensic investigation by pathologists. This will help in unravelling who the victims were and the circumstances of their deaths.

“The TJP commission had earlier held the first phase of its public hearing between June and July this year in the course of which we considered 24 petitions and met with 48 witnesses who testified on oath from 14 communities of the state within a 10-day hearing.

“A Bureau of Missing Persons as recommended by this Commission has already been established in the state to document the missing and the circumstances of their disappearance.

Crime / Secondary School Teacher Arrested For ‘raping Two Girls’ In Ogun by Addme: 7:09am On Nov 09, 2023
A secondary school teacher identified as Olaniran Lateef, has been arrested for allegedly raping two girls in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Motunrayo Adeleye, commissioner for women affairs in Ogun, said the suspect is a 43-year-old mathematics teacher at Ebenezer Grammar school in Iberekodo area of the state.

Adeleye said a complaint was lodged against the suspect about an alleged rape.

The commissioner added that members of a team from the ministry and the police deployed to Lateef’s house caught him while raping another lady.

"On Saturday, a member of our team got a call from a young lady reporting that she has been raped by a man,” the statement reads.

“We swung into action and located her, took her to the laboratory to run several tests before taking her to the police station to make a report.

“We thereafter went with the police to the accused home but after several knocks, he refused to open the gate.

“We were able to locate the brother to the house owner who assisted us in gaining access to the compound.

“We heard a girl’s cry for help when we got into the compound and with the support of the police, we caught Mr. Olaniran Lateef Adewale, a secondary school mathematics teacher at Ebenezer Grammar school Iberekodo, Abeokuta and a native of Ipokia local government of Ogun state with OGNO.30650 of Ogun State Teaching service commission.

“The girl with him also accused him of forcibly having sexual intercourse with her and threatening to kill her if she does not ask her family to send him money.”

The commissioner said the suspect has been remanded at the Ogun state police command headquarters pending more investigation.

We use this opportunity to encourage any one with useful information about this man to come forward and we also encourage rape victims to always report rape cases to the ministry,” she added.

“The victims will undergo counseling to help ease this unimaginable trauma. We say no more victim shaming! And we promise to get justice for the victims.”

In a trending video online, the suspect, while responding to a question from the commissioner, said he had been having a conversation with the girls for a long time.

Condemning the incident in a statement shared on X, Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, said rape is a criminal offence and must be eradicated from society.

“I want to assure you that the government and law enforcement agencies are committed to tackling this issue head-on and ensuring justice prevails,” Abiodun said.

“Our collective voice must resound in unison, condemning these acts and demanding justice for the victims.

“Rape is a criminal offence that leaves lasting scars on its survivors—physically, emotionally, and mentally.

“No individual should experience such trauma or live in constant fear of becoming a victim.

“Our law enforcement agencies have intensified their efforts to investigate instances of sexual assault and apprehend the culprits.”

When contacted, Omolola Odutola, police spokesperson in the state, also confirmed the incident.

Yes, National Assembly members must have official cars but at what cost to an highly inflated economy of ours that is even struggling to pay salaries, they could have gone for a Jeep that's not that costly as this, infact if possible a Nigerian made one.

Crime / Immigration Nabs Three In Ondo For Passport Racketeering by Addme: 7:43pm On Nov 07, 2023
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) says it apprehended three suspected passport racketeers, Etaoghere Cyril, Okunika Joy and Adehaka Blessing for duping people in Ondo.

The NIS spokesman in Ondo stated this Tuesday at the command’s headquarters in Akure, revealing that suspects were arrested after charging exorbitant fees from some applicants seeking to get passports.
He said the suspects would be handed over to the police.

Mr Alebiosu revealed that the suspects charged N80,500 for a 32-page five-year passport, N100,500 for 64 64-page five-year passport, and N165,000 for a 64-page 10-year passport.

The NIS official noted that the crime committed by the three suspects was against the widely publicised cost of a passport on the Nigeria Immigration Service website.

According to Mr Alebiosu, the trio were arrested after a series of complaints at the NIS passport office in Akure that these people still capitalize on the previous lapses in the passport administration to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.

“Upon hearing of such a syndicate in Akure, the PCO sent an officer to disguise as a civilian looking to obtain a passport to the suspect office where he was presented with some Immigration documents to obtain his data for passport application, which eventually led to their arrest,” Mr Alebiosu explained.

The immigration officer added, “At this juncture, we must make it known to members of the public that a Nigerian passport being issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service is neither a commodity that can be bargained over nor a service that NIS employs an agent to carry out on her behalf.”

This lantern has produced Professors, lawyers, doctors, teachers, engineers and many more. There were households with only one lantern, but children passed Common Entrance, finished 0 Level, went for A Level, Colleges of Education and beyond. With determination, nothing is impossible.
A salute to the hurricane lamp!!!

Now what happens to all the electric bulbs in all the corners of our houses? What is wrong with all the rechargeable lamps? The generator is there in case of power failure. Some homes even have the uninterrupted power supply from solar panels. Then, how come your child cannot finish a simple task called homework or project?
What has gone wrong? Who should we blame in this instance? You? The child? The school? Or the government?

Botragelad:
Let's put it this way: The terms "prison," "jail," and "cell" are all related, but they each refer to slightly different things. A prison is a large facility that is used to house people who have been convicted of serious crimes, and it typically has high security.

A jail is a smaller facility that is used to hold people who have been accused of crimes, either before or after they have been convicted. A cell is the smallest unit of confinement, and it can be found in both prisons and jails. So, the terms are all related, but they have different specific meanings.
You are right to some extent but the bolded is not through. People can be in prison without being convicted. They call them ATM.
There are different set of people in Prison.
ATM, CM, Lifer and CC.
