EducationCommon Fallacies In Reasoning That You Need To Know by Adebanjids1(op):
1. FAULTY CAUSE: (post hoc ergo propter hoc) mistakes correlation or association for causation, by assuming that because one thing follows another it was caused by the other.

example: A black cat crossed Babbs' path yesterday and, sure enough, she was involved in an automobile accident later that same afternoon.

example: The introduction of sex education courses at the high school level has resulted in increased promiscuity among teens. A recent study revealed that the number of reported cases of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) was significantly higher for high schools that offered courses in sex education than for high schools that did not.

2. SWEEPING GENERALIZATION: (dicto simpliciter) assumes that what is true of the whole will also be true of the part, or that what is true in most instances will be true in all instances.

example: Muffin must be rich or have rich parents, because she belongs to ZXQ, and ZXQ is the richest sorority on campus.

example: I'd like to hire you, but you're an ex-felon and statistics show that 80% of ex-felons recidivate.

3. HASTY GENERALIZATION: bases an inference on too small a sample, or on an unrepresentative sample. Often, a single example or instance is used as the basis for a broader generalization.

example: All of those movie stars are really rude. I asked Kevin Costner for his autograph in a restaurant in Westwood the other evening, and he told me to get lost.

example: Pit Bulls are actually gentle, sweet dogs. My next door neighbor has one and his dog loves to romp and play with all the kids in the neighborhood!

4. FAULTY ANALOGY: (can be literal or figurative) assumes that because two things, events, or situations are alike in some known respects, that they are alike in other unknown respects.

example: What's the big deal about the early pioneers killing a few Indians in order to settle the West? After all, you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

example: Banning "head" shops from selling drug paraphernalia in order to curb drug abuse makes about as much sense as banning bikinis to reduce promiscuity.

5. APPEAL TO IGNORANCE: (argumentum ad ignorantiam) attempts to use an opponent's inability to disprove a conclusion as proof of the validity of the conclusion, i.e. "You can't prove I'm wrong, so I must be right."

example: We can safely conclude that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the galaxy, because thus far no one has been able to prove that there is not.

example: The new form of experimental chemotherapy must be working; not a single patient has returned to complain.

6. BIFURCATION: (either-or, black or white, all or nothing fallacy) assumes that two categories are mutually exclusive and exhaustive, that is, something is either a member of one or the other, but not both or some third category.

example: Either you favor a strong national defense, or you favor allowing other nations to dictate our foreign policy.

example: It’s not TV. It’s HBO.

7. FALSE DILEMMA: (a form of bifurcation) implies that one of two outcomes is inevitable, and both have negative consequences.

example: Either you buy a large car and watch it guzzle away your paycheck, or you buy a small car and take a greater risk of being injured or killed in the event of an accident.

example: You can put your money in a savings account, in which case the IRS will tax you on the interest, and inflation will erode the value of your money, or you can avoid maintaining a savings account in which case you will have nothing to fall back on in a financial emergency.

8. FAULTY SIGN: (also includes argument from circumstance) wrongly assumes that one event or phenomenon is a reliable indicator or predictor of another event or phenomenon.

example: the cars driving in the opposite direction have their lights on; they must be part of a funeral procession.

example: That guy is wearing a Raiders jacket and baggy pants. I’ll bet he’s a gang member.

9. DAMNING THE SOURCE: (ad hominem, sometimes called the genetic fallacy) attempts to refute an argument by indicting the source of the argument, rather than the substance of the argument itself.

example: There is no reason to listen to the arguments of those who oppose school prayer, for they are the arguments of atheists!

example: The American Trial Lawyers Association favors of this piece of legislation, so you know it has to be bad for ordinary citizens.

10. TU QUOQUE: (look who's talking or two wrongs make a right) pointing to a similar wrong or error committed by another.

example: Gee, Mom and Dad, how can you tell me not to do drugs when you both smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol?

example: The United States has no business criticizing the human rights policies of the Third World nations, not as long as discrimination and segregation continue to exist in the United States.

11. EQUIVOCATION: allows a key word or term in an argument to shift its meaning during the course of the argument. The result is that the conclusion of the argument is not concerned with the same thing as the premise(s).

example: Only man is rational. No woman is a man. Therefore, no woman is rational.

example: No one who has the slightest acquaintance with science can reasonably doubt that the miracles in the Bible actually took place. Every year we witness countless new miracles in the form recombinant DNA, micro-chips, organ transplants, and the like. (the word "miracle" does not have the same meaning in each case)

12. BEGGING THE QUESTION: (petitio principii) entails making an argument, the conclusion of which is based on an unstated or unproven assumption. In question form, this fallacy is known as a COMPLEX QUESTION.

example: Abortion is murder, since killing a baby is an act of murder.

example: Have you stopped beating your wife?

13. TAUTOLOGY: (a sub-category of circular argument) defining terms or qualifying an argument in such a way that it would be impossible to disprove the argument. Often, the rationale for the argument is merely a restatement of it.

Christianity EtcDoes Our Sins Really Affect God? by Adebanjids1(op): 9:43am On Oct 23, 2016
Happy Sabbath readers, we appreciate the you visiting us and your feedbacks.

TeamAdebanjids Blog is putting everything in place to answer your inner questions and that is what we are committed to do.

Read this and let discuss it all in the comment box. Does our sins really affect God Happy Reading!

“You are not a God taking delight in wickedness; no one bad may reside for any time with you.” PSALM 5:4 [5:5, TNK].

BY SINNING, Adam and Eve severed their relationship with God. So too our sin separates us from God. “The very errors of you people have become the things causing division between you and your God, and your own sins have caused the concealing of his face from you to keep from hearing.”—Isaiah 59:2.

See what this verses says:

Romans 23vs3 New International Version

All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

But also Kindly read Job 35vs5-7 which I choose as an eye opener.

5. Look up into the sky, and see the clouds high above you.

6. If you sin, how does that affect God? Even if you sin again and again, what effect will it have on him?

7. If you are good, is this some great gift to him? What could you possibly give him?

8. No, your sins affect only people like yourself, and your good deeds also affect only humans.

But also remember Proverb 14vs34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin a reproach a reproach to any people.

In sum, I think our righteousness does not affect God, rather it helps us and those around us .

Family6 Things They Will Never Tell You In An Abortion Clinic by Adebanjids1(op): 4:16pm On Oct 22, 2016
This is a tough decision you have to make, but please be mature. Only an immature person thinks of herself alone.

This article was written by neither a militant, pro-life male, nor a 50- year-old grandmother who has never been faced with a problem pregnancy.
It was written by a woman who was eighteen and pregnant once. A woman who was scared, like you are, and chose abortion. After nine years I know what the right choice was, and is, and I just want you to know .

1. Abortion is not safe:
Contrary to the belief that abortion is as simple as removing a wart, it is actually a very serious procedure that can have very serious results.
The clinic personnel will lead you to believe that complications rarely arise, but that is not the case. Many women have been damaged for life as a result of their legal abortion.

Your cervical muscle may be damaged in an abortion because the cervix is forcefully dilated. This means that your future pregnancies have a greater chance of resulting in miscarriage or premature delivery.

Damage to the uterine wall is another concern Perforation (puncturing) of the uterus, infection hemorrhage, and blood clots are only a few of the complications that you could end up with.
I you do have a successful” abortion, scar tissue may still form which can cause sterilization, miscarriages and tubal pregnancies.

Approximately two out of 10 women who abort their first pregnancy will never be able to have children again. Do you want to take that kind of risk?

2. Abortion leaves emotional scars:

Most often a woman will feel the consequences of her decision within days of her abortion. If they don’t appear immediately, they will appear as she gets older.

Emotional scars include unexplained depression, a loss of the ability to get close to others, repressed emotions, a hardening of the spirit, thwarted maternal instincts (which may lead to child abuse or neglect later in life), intense feelings of guilt and thoughts of suicide. Don’t be fooled —every abortion leaves emotional scars.

3. There are alternatives to abortion:
There are many organizations that can offer you practical support such as maternity and baby clothes, a place to live, pre-natal care, and financial aid.

Counseling is also available to help you through this traumatic time. Please think carefully about your future.

The decision you make in the next few weeks will affect you for the rest of your life. If you’re unsure about having an abortion, take just one more day to think about it — don’t let anyone pressure you into a decision you’re not ready to make yet.

FamilyA Letter To The Parents by Adebanjids1(op): 10:02am On Aug 27, 2016
Dr. Sola Fayose ; the incumbent ASUU, AAUA Branch Chairperson Wrote:

Dear Parents,
There are things that parents do that makes me wonder if they know the implications. In my teaching career, I've come to realize that children who are well brought up produce better results.
What I see these days is training the "butty"(aje butter) way which gets me scared of what will happen in the next 10-15years.

I see eight year olds who don't bother to lay their beds.
I see 10year olds served by the maid or "caring mum" on the table and they either don't pack the table or they just dump the plates in the kitchen for the maid or "caring mum".
Drivers carry the bags of children above 5years and the children call them "my driver".
Manual cloth washing is gradually been replaced by washing machines yet the maid or "caring mum" will be the one to do the laundry.
Children wake up and go straight to the TV and sleep late watching TV with mum & dad but mum & dad don't allow them read late. They'll say "go and sleep".

I see parents play game for hours on their phones yet wonder why their children don't read and why their results are poor despite investment in expensive schools.

I see tweenagers and teenagers who can't cook common white rice because there's maid, nanny, cook, "caring mum" etc.

I see children who are addicted to cheating in exams, assignments, class work and the parents aren't taking conscious steps to correct it instead some will bribe teachers to make their children first or teach them during external exams.

I see children who talk to their parents and other adults disrespectfully and all parents say is "children of now a days are outspoken".

Your children's wardrobe is full of clothes but they don't have a single book.
You buy them lots of toys but you didn't buy them books.
I can go on and on.

See, when next you tell your child not to do house chores, study hard etc have it at the back of your mind that what you're saying is "don't take responsibility for your life".

I guess parents don't know that chores and morals are almost directly proportional to academic performance.
Haven't you thought of it that when our forefathers went to farm, fetched water etc before or after school, the world was a better place?
Haven't you thought of it that our local proverbs which have remained relevant were coined by illiterate men and women?
A yoruba proverb says, "eni a nwo ki wooran"...."tho
se who make news don't watch news".
So when you're mentoring your children to be T.V. addicts you should understand what you're grooming them to be.

There are TWO PAINS in life and everyone must suffer one; PAIN OF DISCIPLINE or PAIN OF REGRET.
When you're preventing your children from going through pain of discipline, just understand that you're automatically preparing them for pain of regret.

Some parents feel that their children's careers are secured because of their financial stand.
Now, let's do this analysis;
1. You get your children a job
2. You make them take over your company
3. You set up a business for them

1. If you get them a job and they have the wrong attitude at work like been late, talking rudely to clients etc which made the company lose a big contract, will they keep them there?
2. They take over your company and your company lost within three months an amount that you didn't make in your first five years in business due to their lack of discipline, will you pat them on the head and say I'm proud of you child?
3. They run the business shabbily and there's nothing to show for it within a few years.
The earlier we stop this pampering the better. You will give an account to God about them.
Train your child in the way he should go and when he is old, he won't depart from it.

Regards:
A concerned Parent!

Foreign AffairsThe Sun Just Set On Her...queen Elizabeth II Of England Is Dead! by Adebanjids1(op): 4:09am On Aug 26, 2016
“Queen Elizabeth II dead 2016” : Monarch killed by internet death hoax.

Rumors of the monarch’s alleged demise gained traction on Wednesday after a ‘ R.I.P. Queen Elizabeth II ’ Facebook page attracted nearly one million of ‘likes’. Those who read the ‘About’ page were given a believable account of the British monarch’s passing:

“At about 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday (August 24, 2016), our beloved monarch Queen Elizabeth II passed away. Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926 in London. She will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”

Hundreds of fans immediately started writing their messages of condolence on the Facebook page, expressing their sadness that the talented 90-year-old monarch was dead. And as usual, Twittersphere was frenzied over the death hoax.
Where as some trusting fans believed the post, others were immediately skeptical of the report, perhaps learning their lesson from the huge amount of fake death reports emerging about celebrities over recent months. Some pointed out that the news had not been carried on any major British network, indicating that it was a fake report, as the death of a monarch of Queen Elizabeth II's stature would be major news across networks.

A recent poll conducted for the Celebrity Post shows that a large majority (75%) of respondents think those Queen Elizabeth II death rumors are not funny anymore.

Queen Elizabeth II Death Hoax Dismissed Since Monarch Is ‘Alive And Well’

On Thursday (August 25) the monarch's reps officially confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II is not dead. “ She joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. She's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet, ” they said.

Some fans have expressed anger at the fake report saying it was reckless, distressing and hurtful to fans of the much loved monarch. Others say this shows her extreme popularity across the globe.

RomanceTOASTING ETIQUETTE by Adebanjids1(op):
Toasting to love, friendship, health, wealth, and happiness has been practiced by almost every culture from the beginning of recorded history.

WHO TOASTS AND WHEN
Traditionally, the host or hostess offers the first toast. Around a table with friends, however, a guest can propose the first toast (and often does), usually as a way to thank the host for bringing everyone together.
The "host toasts first" rule does still apply at receptions and other large functions (though the best man usually leads the toasting at a wedding reception).

Make sure that all glasses are filled before toasting.
The glasses don't have to hold champagne or wine; nondrinkers may toast with water, juice, or a soft drink.

GETTING THE CROWD'S ATTENTION
The host must attract the crowd's attention before making his toast, which he does by standing and raising his glass-not by banging on a glass with a utensil.

SIT OR STAND
When it comes to sitting or standing, do what comes naturally.

If toasts are made over pre-dinner drinks in the living room, the toaster may want to stand.
At the dinner table, the toaster may remain seated if the group is fairly small.
A table of a dozen or more usually requires the toaster to stand so that people will be able to hear.

Although the host often stands during a toast, everyone else - including the person(s) being toasted - remains seated. The exception is when the toaster asks everyone to "rise and drink to ..." or "stand and raise your glasses to ..."

The guests respond by taking a sip of their drinks, not by draining the glass; save enough of the beverage for any toasts that follow.

On ceremonial occasions, a toastmaster or the chairman of the committee often takes charge, sandwiching the necessary toasts between the end of the meal and before any speeches. Toasters are usually expected to stand on such formal occasions.

The man we hard so much about is brand name, we think we know; but never knew him. Who built our bridges and edifices.

Above is picture of Julius Berger himself, the world renowned construction magnate whose

construction company - Julius Berger - built most of our bridges and many Nigerian edifices.

He was born in 1862 in Zempelburg, a small town in Germany. His father sent him to Berlin at the age of 12 to take up an apprenticeship with a leather wholesale firm. He returned to the family transport business three years later in 1878. He soon found himself more frequently transporting building materials instead of grain. It was this transportation of building materials that led to his becoming increasingly familiar with the construction industry.

When he had learned enough, he switched professions and started his own construction company named after him. Julius Berger came into Nigeria in August 1965. The first bridge they constructed in Nigeria was Eko Bridge in Lagos. They also built the 3rd Mainland Bridge and currently they are building the 2nd Niger Bridge Onitsha. He died in 1942.

What interest me most is that Julius himself died before his company arrived Nigeria to take up our construction works. Secondly, the man was never an engineer in the first place?

Now, my questions are:

1. How do we juxtapose that a none engineer can manage and execute a construction job. That means experience count.

2. How do we justify practical hand on experience and theorist of engineering principles which I don't think Mr. Julius has.

3. Can it be said that Mr. Julius is more inclined as an administrator than an engineer. Having managed his firm that has outlived him and have thousands of engineers employed on his pay roll.

4. Finally, my fellow engineers. What others lesson or deductions have you learnt from the man called Julius Berger?

See pictures of some of works here https://adebanjids..com.ng/2016/08/who-is-man-called-julius-berger.html?m=1
CrimeThe Story Of Shina Rambo - The Most Notorious Armed Robber In Nigerian History. by Adebanjids1(op):
Shina Rambo is a former bandit who terrorised South-West Nigeria in the 1990s. After serving jail-time for his crimes, he was converted by an evangelist and became a Christian evangelical pastor. Shina Rambo now Mathew Oluwanifemi was a name that sent shivers down the spine of people who lived in the South West of Nigeria and even outside Nigeria, like Benin Republic and neighborhood, in the 1990s.

He was a hardened criminal, a terror and killer, one whom men of the security agencies will never forget in a haste.

A man mountain, towering about 6 ft 5inch, well built, dark skinned and sweltering eyes, he carried out his operations, like a movie, in the broad day light, withsophisticated weapons, and bullet belts and explosives strapped roundabout him. He specialized in robbing exotic cars on highways and robbing banks. Nothing could stop him, not even security operatives, he was totally invincible. He was Shina Rambo!

He was born in the year 1958 to a military man who was a bad egg in the service. His father was from Abeokuta in Ogun state, but his mother was a native of Sabongida–Ora in Edo state. His father had over 18 wives, as was the norm for soldiers to impregnate virtually every woman they met where they were posted to. His father used his military influence to rob innocent citizens, and always brought huge amount of money home. This used to entice little Shina. He recalls, “I remembered when I was about 7 years old, my father came home with a lot of money, foreign currencies, with blood on it, and they were using something like a woman’s scarf to wipe it, then I asked him, is this an animal’s blood, or human blood? But he wouldn’t answer me, they were just drinking, smoking, and merry making.

”Shina was already indoctrinated into the underworld by his father at a tender age of 7 without him knowing it, as he would sit in front of his son, to dismantle and assemble all sorts of weapons and then polishing them in preparation for an operation. This went on for so long till one day, little Shina, entered into his father’s room while he had stepped into the toilet, and saw a dismembered gun on the floor. He sat down in front of it, and bit by bit, he had assembled it effortlessly in no time at all. His father came out of the toilet, and saw his son, with a loaded gun in his hands. Shina flashed back and said, “That day my father was so disappointed, that he wanted to kill me, he grabbed the gun from my hand and shot straight at me, but I miraculously escaped out of the room. Then he waited for me to be less alert at night he came to my room with a machete and tried to behead me, but once again, I escaped, but the machete caught my left leg (he rolled up his trouser to show us the large scar, that made everyone sighed in pity). It cut me so deep I thought I was never going to walk again.

That day I knew I had graduated, all that was left was to pull the trigger, and I was so eager. Shina Rambo became so notorious in no time, and was hellbent on succeeding in his career as an armed robber, that he went through any length to secure spiritual powers for fortification.

To the extent of pounding over 27 live new born babies in the mortar with a pestle, cutting off about 100 human tongues and cooking them to eat, visiting the spiritual river called river of life in Ogoja, Cross Rivers State, living in an Iroko tree for days, and sleeping in the cemetery.

He was given a spiritual wife who always followed him for any operation, she dressed like an Alhaja, people thought she was human, but she was a spirit, that was why they never saw her face. He said she was his personal driver, that she could drive from Nigeria to Cotonou, in the speed of light.Hear him. ”I was involved in so many rituals, that I can’t start naming them now, I was so powerful, I went underground, inside trees that looked like a city, a lot of beautiful houses inside the tree, I had my own too. I went into a river called River of life in Ogoja, where a lot of politicians and wealthy men used to come. I had several personalities, I could change my form whenever I wanted to, that’s why the police were busy killing innocent people, and thought they were killing Shina Rambo.

Romance7 Reasons Why Guys Love Girls Who Wear GLASSES! by Adebanjids1(op): 6:11pm On Aug 14, 2016
Despite their rise in popularity, many women still prefer not to wear their glasses.
If you’re a romantic comedy fan (like us) you’ll remember that when the nerdy girl transformed into the gorgeous creature the guy inevitably fell for, the first thing her makeover team did was remove her glasses.

Er, that tends to leave an impression on self-conscious visually impaired teens everywhere!
But the tide is turning. Glasses are enjoying a major comeback right now and have become a must-have fashion accessory for trend-savvy celebs. And it turns out that lots of guys find them really hot! Who knew?

Here are 7 reasons why guys love girls who wear glasses:

1. They make you look intelligent:
It may seem slightly inane, but there is a long-held opinion that people who wear glasses are more intelligent! A study by The College of Optometrists showed that 36% of people thought glasses-wearers looked more professional and were more likely to succeed in job interviews. And let’s face it ladies, smart is sexy.

2. They tend to command authority:
The implied intellect that women in specs have means that they tend to look more authoritative and will therefore, be taken more seriously in everyday situations. Apparently, lots of adolescent males have harboured secret fantasies about a secretary/teacher figure in their lives.

3. They add a sense of allure:
Men find something very alluring about a woman who wears glasses. It’s the idea of the intellectual, conservative ‘good girl’ having a naughty side that gets them all hot and bothered!

4. They can give women a touch of mystique:
Despite the fact that glasses frame the eyes which are, of course, ‘the windows to the soul’, that layer of glass and plastic also seems to provide a shield between the wearer and the rest of the world. That air of mystique is irresistible to potential suitors.

5. They show off a woman’s confidence:
It takes a certain amount of courage to wear something large and obvious on your face all day! So when a woman not only wears glasses, but rocks them, she exudes a confidence and self-assurance that is incredibly attractive to those around her.

6. They allow her to express her individuality:
The type of frame a woman goes for says a lot about her personality. Thick, black frames suggest a woman who knows what’s on trend and loves the hipster look. Small wire frames indicate a more thoughtful, intellectual person while colourful plastic frames are favoured by the creative types!

7. They are highly fashionable
Because glasses are such a popular look right now, women who wear glasses are super-fashionable, whether they realise it or not! You always knew you’d have something in common with Cara Delevingne one day.

Over 15 years ago we profiled Donald Trump's then-girlfriend Melania Knauss. Now his wife, our naked profile shoot on his customised Boeing 727 featured Melania wearing handcuffs, wielding diamonds, and holding a chrome pistol (It was the lad mags era after all...)
It makes for some interesting reading today, since his recent success in his latest run for president.
