Ondo South 2023: Orunja of Odigbo, Oba Akinrinmade endorses Boye Oyewumi for Senate


Says "Our people will elect differently this time around, we trust Oyewumi and we are with him on 2023"

Leading Senatorial Aspirant for the Ondo Southern Senatorial District, Mr. Boye Oyewumi, has received the endorsement of the traditional Institution of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on his Senatorial ambition.


The Senatorial Aspirant, who is also the Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotional Agency, ONDIPA, was endorsed on Tuesday, 22nd of March, 2022 when he visited the Traditional Monarch of the Odigbo Kingdom, HRH. Oba Rufus Olugboyega Akinrinmade, the Orunja of Odigbo.


Oyewumi, while addressing the respected First Class Monarch, opined on the need for the people to adopt a new and progressive approach to electing candidates for political offices that will see leadership emerge based on good reasoning, and not parochial sentiments.


He assured the traditional Institution of the Local Government Area of a transparent, quality and people's driven representation if given the opportunity to represent them at the Senate come 2023.


According to him, "development only comes with proper and quality representation, hence the need for the people to elect candidates based on their antecedents and ability to deliver."


While making reference to some of the projects which were facilitated by him to Odigbo LGA through ONDIPA under the leadership of the Rotimi Akeredolu led administration, especially, the Ore Industrial Park, Oyewumi explained that it is high time the people give their mandate to a candidate who can pull the much needed federal influence at the Legislative House to consolidate on these numerous key projects of the state government.


He also added that if given the opportunity to represent the senatorial district at the Red Chamber, his led representation would not just add numerical strengths to the Senate but will deliver the much needed dividends of democracy to the people.


Oyewumi also paid a brief visit to the Oniparaga Community in Odigbo where he met with party stakeholders in the ward.


Reacting to Mr. Boye Oyewumi, the Traditional Monarch of Odigbo, HRH. Oba Rufus Olugboyega Akinrinmade, expressed his pleasure at the aspiration of Mr Boye Oyewumi who he described as a candidate who has the much needed qualities to advance the Senatorial district.

The Monarch also presented a royal gift to Mr. Boye Oyewumi as a symbol of his acceptance from the people of Odigbo Kingdom.

Ondo South: The Hidden Wealth of The West Awaiting Redemption

Those who are familiar with the richness of the soil of Ondo South Senatorial District and the abundance of economic mineral resources beneath it will never contest it when the district is aptly and fittingly described as the richest district in Ondo State and perhaps the wealthiest axis in the southwestern arc of Nigeria.

Aside from the soil being viable for agricultural purposes ranging from subsistence to commercial farming and the abundance of bitumen and crude oil, the district also boasts of a coastline with arguably the longest in the West-Africa sub-region thus making the axis an unrivalled candidate for a deep seaport that has remained elusive for some years now.

Cocoa plantation remains a major preserve of the district so with oil palm plantation. Founded in the Second Republic by the administration of the late Michael Adekunle Ajasin, Okitipupa Oil Palm Plantation Company(a processing company) is still alive and kicking, serving as a veritable vehicle of employment for the people even though more could be done to upscale the operational capacity of the organisation.

In addition to the above, the people of the axis comprising the Ilajes, Ijaw Arogbo, Ikale, Odigbo Ile-Oluji, and the rest, have been known, for ages, to be industrious folks who have contributed and still contributing to the development of the state and beyond in various profitable capacities.

Yet, amidst the resources and endowment nature has gifted the region coupled with its highly sophisticated human agency, the zone remains the least developed among the comity of districts in the state. It's sheer irony and a heavy indictment suggesting some sort of clueless and rudderless political leadership that has held the place in perpetual strangulation for years, especially since the return of civil rule to the country in 1999.

Apart from crude oil exploration in the district which does qualify Ondo State for admittance into the exclusive club of oil-producing states in the country, the resultant benefit of the 13 per cent derivation from the Federation Account and other allied benefits, bitumen exploration has remained a pipe dream for years so with the deep seaport elusive. In fact, in every election season, aspirants have weaponized the issue of bitumen exploration and the deep seaport to mine some political advantage for themselves to the collective detriment of the people. But for how long should this continue?

There is no atom of doubt that the district has not had efficient and effective political leadership that can galvanize and mobilize support for the economic revitalization of the district, especially at the national level, given the fact that states usually are limited in terms of what they can do per the exploration of the resources a state has because of the obnoxious Land Use Act of 1978.

The foregoing, therefore, necessarily offers a veritable platform for the people of the zone to have a rethink in their choice of those who should go to represent them at the National Assembly in 2023, especially in the Red Chambers - the Senate- where most crucial decisions of national development are given legislative backing, which, bar all odds, will be implemented by the executive arm of government.

At the risk of exaggeration, it is without equivocation that Ondo South remains the district with the least developmental projects attracted to the zone among the three senatorial districts in the state by the respective senators representing them. Ondo North has been most fortunate to have Professor Ajayi Boroffice as its senator so with Ondo Central with Senator Ayo Akinyelure doing wonders for the zone through quality zonal intervention programs. The less one mentions that of Ondo South, the better for the person's sanity.

It's a fact that Ondo South has never lacked men of prodigious capacity who can rally the district for organic development and inclusive growth; the major challenge is that it's either those men abandon politics for the traditional and career politicians or when they move into the terrain, they don't get the platform to serve because they are often outplayed by those who understand the intrigues and nuances of high voltage politicking and before you say, Jack, they disappear from the political firmament never to return!

Well, the tradition(or is it convention?)of sending men of mediocre capacities to the Senate in the district is about to change as the road to 2023 becomes clearer with the entrance of an investment and development work, Boye Oyewunmi, into the senatorial race on the platform of the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress(APC).

If Ondo South must be revitalized along the path of sustainable development, then a person of Oyewunmi's pedigree and myriad experience spanning the private and public sectors in almost three decades is the right answer to the perennial problem of deficient and egregiously inefficient leadership that has stymied the progress of the zone for years.

Without being immodest, of the throng of aspirants who have so far declared their interest for the senate among the two dominant political parties in the zone, Oyewunmi remains the most qualified with the right mix and blend of academic qualifications, exposure and experiential knowledge. Interestingly, since he decided to heed the call of the people by declaring his interest, the dynamics and permutations of the politics of the senate in the district have changed radically with everyone seeing him as a formidable aspirant who is difficult to browbeat or push aside.

Oyewunmi's records of excellence in service- both public and private- speak to the criticality of the need for Ondo South to send someone of his sterling status to the senate in 2023 for the hidden wealth of the district to undergo transmutation into physical wealth which will be beneficial to everyone in the zone and beyond. As espoused elsewhere, for the maximization of the wealth of the district which has been in the limbo for decades, someone who is versed in industrialization and investment must, of necessity, be the one in the Senate to invoke the right legislations and lobby to back up efforts to exploit the wealth of the people for their collective benefit.

One reverberating testament to his ability to create wealth where none barely exists is the way he has turned Ondo State into an investment haven courtesy of his dual roles as the adviser to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on Investment and as the pioneer chief executive officer of the Ondo State Investment and Development Promotion Agency(ONDIPA), a special purpose utility vehicle to drive the industrialization of Ondo State. As the saying goes, to know a man's competence, entrust a responsibility into his care and see how he turns out. Oyewunmi has been tested and has been found to have delivered beyond expectations and measures. Let's try him for the senate in 2023! He can do it. He will do it. But first thing first: let's give him the nod to be Ondo South senator.

Why Lulu Fawehinmi is the Right Candidate for Ondo West Constituency 1

As the race for who flies the flag of the APC in the forthcoming Ondo West Constituency 1 election draws near- with loads of political bigwigs and stakeholders coming out to make bold and loud claims for the ticket, it is important that the party gives it ticket to someone who is not just capable, well versed in the art of representation and leadership but also to a loyal and committed member.

My Akure people, I bring good news.

If we take a minute to check the neighboring constituencies that surrounds Akure, the great state capital, especially our senatorial district, we would be quick to realise that Reps performing overwhelmingly are youths. Being the state capital, Akure needs to stop being on the back foot and be on the same footing with the politics of the day, youth o'clock.


Gone are the days when we would entrust our sensibilities to people who would abuse it and still turn around to say we are impatient in a country where youths are the vast majority.

Mayokun Lawson-Alade: His Background, Business & Politics

A young businessman, Laf Mayokun Lawson-Alade , popularly known as LAF, will fly the flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the by-election that will be conducted on February 26 to fill the vacant seat of the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. Alade clinched the nomination of the ruling party at the shadow poll conducted last week.

Who is Mayokun Lawson-Alade? This is the question that has been trailing his emergence as the APC standard bearer. Of course, the question is not without any basis. Alade defeated well-known aspirants in the contest for the APC ticket. And to those who are asking the question, Alade is an unknown quantity in the politics of the Federal Constituency. Before the primary election, he was not discussed or considered as the likely winner of the APC nomination. So, they want to know many things about him.

Mayokun was born on July 11, 1982 to the popular family of Alade from Oja-Oshodi in Akure, the Ondo state capital. The Lawson Alade family has a very rich background of political consciousness. In the 1940s, Akure people desired a separate native administration from Ekiti confederation. Mayokun's grandfather, the late Pa. Christopher Josiah Alade, was a member of the Akure Youth Organisation that championed the cause.

His grandfather's mother was from Iju while his father's mother was from Itaogbolu, both communities are in Akure North Local Government Area of the state. Mayokun's mother is from Ise-Ekiti, Ekiti state. Unfortunately, he lost his father in 1997 and his mother in 2021.

Mayokun had his primary education at Parker Universal Primary School, Akure, which he completed in 1993. He proceeded to the Federal Government College, Idoani, Ondo state, for his secondary education from 1993 to 1999. He attended the University of Lagos (UNILAG) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.SC) degree in Physics Electronics 2007.

After his university education, Mayokun worked with Go-Hier Construction as Operation Manager and Head of Operations. Today, he is the Managing Partner, Sinopec Energy Nigeria Limited. Incorporated in 2015 as a limited company, Sinopec is a wholly Nigerian engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company.

The company has its Head Office in Lagos and workshops in Port Harcourt and Calabar. Sinopec has core expertise in construction, fabrication, blasting and coating, PFP, scaffolding, rope access, and oil and gas facilities upgrade. And its major clients since inception include Addax, Total, Saipem, NLNG, Cakas, Ricktel, Hazcon and others.

Mayokun is known for his kind heart. To help the poor and the less privileged, he founded the Lawson Alade Foundation (LAF). The foundation has assisted in bringing relief to many homes. He has supported and still supporting several programmes that seek to edify humanity and bring succour and hope to the hopeless.

He is a young man that profoundly loves Akure, his community. Mayokun has been involved in several community development projects. For a couple of years now, he has been providing caps and T-shirts for Akure youths to celebrate Ulefunta, a development-focused festival in Akure. That is one of the reasons he is popular with young people in the Ondo state capital.

It is wrongly believed in some quarters that Mayokun is a new entrant into politics. He is quiet and unassuming, the truth is that he has been playing in the political field since 2007, about 15 years ago, when he founded Broad Mind Coalition Frontier (BCF). The prime mission of the group was to encourage youth participation in politics. BCF participated and supported the election of Senator Donald Alasoadura into the Senate in 2015.

In 2016, Mayokun facilitated the formation of Aketi Renaissance Gladiators, ARG. In 2020, he formed an alliance with Aketi One-on-One group to aggressively campaign for the reelection of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. He is known for organising rallies and engaging in other activities to mobilise support for the APC candidates in elections.

In 2018, he sought the APC ticket to participate in the 2019 national assembly elections. He eyed the seat of Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. But primary election was not conducted in the party. There are people who are of the view that if a shadow poll was conducted in APC in 2018, Mayokun would have secured the APC nomination.

When the former occupier of the seat, Hon. Adedayo Omolafe popularly known as Expensive, died in August last year, his death paved way for another contest for the seat. Mayokun threw his hat into the ring. He has won the APC ticket and, therefore, he will be facing the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some other political parties on February 26.

The youth are now saying this is their time. It is Youth O'clock. That's the slogan now. But they have a battle to fight. It is the negative profiling of youths who make any headway in politics or business. And this negative profiling is being done by members of their generation. Yes, criminals must be exposed for the society to have a good health. But is every youth a yahoo yahoo boy? I don't think. This must be made clear by the youth themselves if truly it is Youth O'clock.

Foray in politics

-In 2016, Otunba Mayokun LAF facilitated the formation of ARG. Aketi Renaissance Gladiators, a group that had the mandate to support Aketi’s first term election with 30,000 votes outside the existing party structure. The group got the nod of Arakunrin to execute the project. Coupled with the unflinching morale booster from Engr. Ade Adetimehin, The APC State Chairman, the group designed 50,000 questionnaires capturing the bio-data of voters and their expectations from the Governor. These forms were distributed and collected after filling the relevant information. 3,009 unit coordinators, 203 ward coordinators and 3 senatorial coordinators. these efforts recorded exceeding success and the forms were presented to Mr. Governor.

-In 2020, Otunba Mayokun LAF supported the re-election bid with the following Programmes:
Branding of 1,000 taxi cabs with Aketi/ Ayedatiwa stickers.
-Branding of 3 Sienna Buses mounted with sound system and sponsored adverts and jingles parading the nooks and crannies of Akure South/North Federal Constituency, ka la jo, kajo mantra was promoted.

-An Alliance was also formed with Aketi one-on-one, a group set up by Aketi himself. The merger resulted in aggressive campaign in the midst of provation because Akure South is the home base of Eyitayo Jegede.

-A solidaritary walk for Aketi’s re-election was coordinated, sponsored and facilitated by Otunba Mayokun Lawson Alade. The tour took off from Akure Town Hall through Oba Adesida to ‘A’ Division and a right turn to High Court and finally ended at Nepa Car Park. Led by the Hourourable Minister of Niger Delta, Senator Tayo Alashoadura and other dignitaries and the likes of the Deputy Governor who represented the Honourable Governor of Ondo State Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who was unavoidably absent. The APC Leaders in Akure South participated with over 5,000 good people of Ondo State. All these efforts were funded by Otunba Mayokun Lawson Alade (LAF).
Otunba Mayokun Lawson Alade (LAF) organised a press conference where he openly canvassed supports for the re-election bid of Aketi based on the performance.

He donated his Office at No 40 Adegbola Street, Akure as an independent situation room for elections monitors.
He organised rallies with branded souvenirs to galvanise support for Buhari/Osinbajo second term bid. The avenue was also used to spur supports for other candidates of the party (APC).
This was done at NEPA car park of 2,000 crowd size.

-For the love of his community, Akure kingdom, Otunba Mayokun LAF provided Souvenirs (caps and T-shirts) for Akure Youths to celebrate ULEFUNTA. A robust cow was presented to Deji for the ULEFUNTA celebration. LAF also gave all the Ihare quarter chiefs and Olus cash support.

He also donated hugely for the development of Akure kingdom during a programme tagged A NIGHT WITH Deji.
LAF is a devout Christian, an Anglican by birth. He also cherishes the customs, culture and traditions of his people.
On BEMORE, FOWOSO:
In his dogged fight to create enabling platforms for our boarding girls, Otunba LAF struck a partnership with Bemore, Empowered Initiative which has the mission of engendering self-awareness among women, girls and equip them to fight feminised poverty, Otunba Mayokun LAF sponsored twenty girls at 200,000 each. Every Bemore girl left training camp with a brand new ideology and perspective to live as a girl child and is now ready to confront and overcome societal limitations. The girls are made to undergo intensive training in ICT which covers Computer appreciation, digital literacy, software development, coding, web and app. designing, among others. The participating pupils are also trained in renewable energy, solar panel development, solar PV installation e.t.c
Aside the training in ICT and renewable energy, girls also
get trained in other life enhancing skills such as bead making, liquid soap making, baking and pastries, drawing and painting, gele typing etc.

Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Oladunni Odu; the Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale; the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Donald Ojogo; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Asiwaju Gboyega Adefarati; the Special Adviser on Political Matters and Strategy, Dr. Jibayo Adeyeye; and the Chairman SUBEB, Rt. The Governor commiserated with Alhaji Olanusi, while describing the sudden death of his wife as painful and unexpected.

Governor Akeredolu, who noted that it is not an easy thing to lose someone so dear and close, particularly a wife, encouraged the former Deputy Governor to take solace in God, saying God gives and takes.

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, was on Sunday, November 22, 2020, honored with an "Award of Notability" by Emeralds Perfect Expression which is a Gospel Musical Group based in Akure , the state capital.

The group said the award was in recognition of the selfless services of Governor Akeredolu as a notable advocate of human dignity through the instrumentality of law practice and his unrelenting dedication towards raising the bar of good governance in the Sunshine State as a Governor.

The initiator and founder of the group, Mr. Gbenga Obagbemi said Emeralds Perfect Expression found in Arakunrin Akeredolu a life dedicated to the service of mankind long before he came into government.

In his remarks, Governor Akeredolu disclosed that praising God with soul lifting songs have always been his source of inspiration right from childhood when he was a Chorister, adding that after his service as Governor, he will surely return to the Choir.

While saying that his second term inauguration coming up on February 24, next year will be to praise God, Governor Akeredolu explained that there was nothing greater than praising God for His goodness.
