Thank God it wasn't you that did it if not he would have helped himself with some other woman. He can't do that and that is what is vexing him the more.
That's what I think.

May I ask what led to the surgery in the first place? I mean why did you decide not to have babies again?
If you remind him of the reasons why you both took the decision maybe the tension will be reduced.
That is what I do to console myself whenever I regret a decision that I have made.

There's something we need to realize. Even if GEJ manages to stabilize power supply during his tenure, what about his successor? What guarantees do we have that his successor would consolidate on his successes? That is the biggest problem with Nigeria. We need to understand a fundamental fact: Individuals may instigate/initiate development, but ONLY institutions can SUSTAIN development. The stability of the USA's power supply and public utilities does not depend of whether the sitting president is Obama or Obioma. The institutionalized systems and structures are self-regulating and self-activating. That is what we lack in Nigeria. Even if GEJ manages to rebuild the power infrastructure and ensure 24/7 power supply during his tenure. The next president might reverse the progress and take us back to square one by permiting mediocrity, corruption and mismanagement. What this means is that there must be institutional mechanisms that ensure maintenance of systems and processes regardless of who is in power. Do we have that in Nigeria? For example, the Fashola that is heralded as perhaps the most 'performing' governor that Nigeria has had in recent times, how sustainable (and self-sustaining) are his legacies? If perchance an Alao-Akala or Lucky Igbinedion kind of character succeeds Fashola as governor in 2015, how long will it take to undo Fashola's modest legacies? Less than 3 months! So to what extent can Fashola claim to have developed Lagos if the so-called development is not sustainable and manageable on an ongoing, long-term basis? That is the fundamental development challenge that Nigeria faces. Development may be initiated by individuals, but it is seldom sustained/maintained by individuals. It is all about institutions. . .which are almost non-existent in Nigeria.

It is really a pathetic case. I don't think much would happen in our liifetime. We would all be grandfathers and grandmothers. . .and yet things might only get worse. It's difficult to be an optimist when the issue at stake is Nigeria.

Unfortunately, any hope of industrialization for Nigeria seems far-fetched. And considering the size of our population, there is little hope that an over-reliance on oil revenues would have the same kind of positive effects it has on tiny sheikhdoms like Qatar, Kuwait, Brunei etc. Even if governments in Nigeria suddenly stop being corrupt and decide to put the oil money to good use, it would still take a while to bring about the industrialization that would increase productive capacity and create real wealth. However, since our governments have no immediate plans to eschew corruption, and since there are no viable short-cuts (e.g. Printing more cash), I guess national wealth would remain a mirage for Nigeria. Trouble.

My heart bleeds for Nigeria.
There seems to be no hope and that's very worrisome.
9 years to the year 2020 and we've not achieved any of the visions.
Things are easier said than done I guess.
We're very good in visionising but very poor in making it a reality.

The number 1 and most important step to starting/achieving industrialisation is having a constant power supply.
That should be numero uno on Bros GEJ'S list.
If that's the ONLY thing he can achieve then he has achieved everything.
He should pursue it squarely and stop jumping from one project to another thus leaving them half way.
He should completely solve the POWER problem, if he has more years to embark on another project, fine, but if he doesn't, the next administration will choose another and solve completely too and so on.
That's the only way I see the change we want coming to reality IMO.
I love my country and I hope my dreams for this country come to pass

At the end of the day, money is nothing but a store of value. The only reason why it was invented was for convenience, and not to replace whatever goods and services people were producing and exchanging with each other beforehand, by way of barter.

For example if Nigeria increase its money supply, more people have Naira and they will use some of this Naira to try to buy pounds. The demand for pounds relative to Naira increases. This increases the value of pounds and reduces the value of the Naira. We then need more and more Naira to buy the same amount of pounds, thereby defeating the whole purpose.

In a global economy where information travels fast, a huge demand for pounds from Naira holders can change the exchange rate within hours.

OOU is the slowest and I mean slowest.

We are 1 session or even 1 and a half session (if compared to faster schools) behind.
Gained admission 2007/2008 session but started receiving lectures June 2008.
Now i'm in 300L yet to start 2nd semester.

Hi,
i just came across a thread of an engineer working in a bank and hoping to go for his M.Sc. He pointed out that most engineers end up in banks obviously because of lack of employment in their chosen field.


My brother got admitted into Unilag last year to study Systems Engineering & we were all happy especially because that was his first and only JAMB. Now I'm getting worried because that course isn't even common and it seems it's only Unilag that offers it. I'ld have preferred Civil engineering for him cos he can be self employed.

Are there chances of him getting a good job?
Do you know anyone that studied that course in Unilag and is successfully working in his field of study?
What does the course even entail?
