Politics / Presidency Reacts As 8 Nigerian Men Sentenced To Death In UAE For Armed Robbery by Adeitanajoke(f): 10:13am On Apr 20, 2019
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa has described the death sentence passed on eight Nigerians in the United Arab Emirate (UAE) as unfortunate.

Dabiri-Erewa said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

Eight Nigerians were sentenced to death on Wednesday in Sharjah, UAE, for a string of robberies at money exchanges and cash machines (ATMs) across the emirate in December 2016.

The presidential aide, who expressed concern over the development, however, said the incident was not an actual description of personalities of people of Nigeria.

”It is an unfortunate incident, but it is not an incident that defines who we are as a people.

”If a few Nigerians have committed a crime for which they are being punished, thousands of Nigerians are doing great in that same country and are being appreciated and celebrated.

”Mr President, who meets Nigerians every time he goes on official trips outside the country, always appeals to Nigerians to be good ambassadors wherever they are.

”I must commend millions of our brothers and sisters excelling all over the world.

“Bad news travels fast and I appeal to the media to help spread the good news about Nigerians and not concentrate only on the once in a while negative stories,” she said.

All the convicted Nigerians were not identified by both the Gulf News and Khaleej Times, all UAE local newspapers, that reported the trial.

A total of 20 suspects were initially held for attacking security guards in four violent attacks at ATMs and money exchanges across Sharjah in late 2016.

Out of the suspects, nine were convicted.
Eight of them were sentenced to death while the ninth person was sentenced to six months imprisonment.

Some of the accused confessed to their crimes while others denied the charges levelled against them.

The verdict was handed down by Judge Majid Al Muhairi of Sharjah Criminal Court on Wednesday.

Politics / Immigration: Trump To Clamp Down On Nigeria, Others by Adeitanajoke(f): 6:18am On Apr 17, 2019
As part of a wider push for new ways to curb immigration, Pres, Trump and his top aides are weighing rules designed to clamp down on countries whose nationals overstay short-term visitor visas.

According to WSJ, the effort would target nationals of countries with high overstay rates of such visas, which include Nigeria, Chad, Eritrea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

To put those countries “on notice,” the U.S. as part of a new rule, would tell the countries’ governments that if rates don’t reverse, then future visas could be shorter or harder to get.

Ultimately, nationals from countries with high overstay rates could be barred entirely. .

The White House is also seeking to push through other rules that would tighten student and investor visas, and it is pursuing preventing immigrants from coming or becoming citizens if they are likely to use publicly funded benefits.
Politics / My Lawyer Qualified To Handle My Case Against Buhari - Atiku Tells INEC by Adeitanajoke(f): 6:06am On Apr 17, 2019
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, says his lawyer, Livy Uzoukwu, is qualified to practise in Nigeria against the position taken by the INEC.

Atiku said INEC only exhibited “crass ignorance and incomparable low level wretched illiteracy” in faulting his choice of Uzoukwu in the petition challenging the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as winner of February 23, 2019 polls.

INEC had in a counter affidavit challenged the choice of Dr Uzoukwu as counsel in the petition claiming that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria was not on the roll call of lawyers called to the bar and therefore not eligible to practice in the country.

But Atiku, in a reaction to the claim, said INEC has exhibited what he termed as “crass ignorance” as the use of abbreviations by counsel has been settled by the Supreme Court.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and Strategy, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said as in the case of the dubious WAEC certificate paraded by Buhari, the APC and INEC have assembled a team of lawyers intent on misleading the courts and Nigerians in general.

“It’s either INEC is not aware or chose to maintain a blind eye as far as this issue is concerned. How can you say a former Attorney General of Imo State and a SAN is not qualified to practice law in Nigeria? This is a clear case of crass ignorance and incomparable display of low level of illiteracy intended to mislead the court and Nigerians.”

Reno Omokri, the former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has reacted as Federal Government Demolishing AIT Structures, Threatening Omotola With Tax Pa

Demolishing @AIT_Online structures and threatening Omotola @Realomosexy with tax payments on the same day. Is the @MBuhari government still a democracy? This is a man who threatened to soak certain people in blood and wasn't threatened. May democracy return to Nigeria #RenosDarts

Celebrities / It’s Risky To Undergo Plastic Surgery For People’s Attention – Stephanie Coker by Adeitanajoke(f): 4:10pm On Apr 16, 2019
Actress and TV presenter, Stephanie Coker has stated that it is too risky to undergo plastic surgery for the aim of grabbing people’s attention.

“Although this was captured perfectly by renowned photographer @kelechiamadiobi This image Is not flawless and it has nothing to do with lighting, angles or the environment. It is because the subject herself is imperfect. I always wanted to keep this image in my closet room for my eyes only. Until last week when a friend said she was going to get a BBL. Now I am not opposed to one altering their looks, it is not my place to judge, however, I do find following such life threatening trends to grab the attention of others a bit risky. Especially when most men on this side of the world are walking around looking like Humpty Dumpty. There have been a handful of cases that I personally know of women who have lost their lives to plastic surgery.

I say all this to say, if you are going to get plastic surgery, please do it for yourself at least, and research the risks to your health and weigh up your options”

The protesters on Thursday condemned the killing of one Hamza Haruna allegedly by security operatives in the nation’s capital.

In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, the groups alleged that the belongings of Abuja indigienes were being robbed.

They also claimed that their lands were being acquired and farm crops being destroyed by those they described as “invaders”.
