Pope Francis smacks woman's hand to free himself from her grip

180NOBS )Pope Francis was happily greeting children and pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square on Tuesday when he slapped a woman’s hand to free himself.



The pope was making his way to the Nativity scene at the center of Vatican City.

As he walked away from the crowd, a woman grabbed his hand and yanked him toward her, video shows.



He became visibly upset and began slapping the woman’s hand in an attempt to free himself from her grip, and he briefly shouted at the woman.



Prior to the incident, the woman had made a sign of the cross. She addressed the 83-year-old pope as he took his hand but it’s unclear what she was trying to tell him.

Giving Girls a Future: Allow Pregnant Girls, Young Mothers to Attend School
Tens of thousands of pregnant girls and adolescent mothers are banned or discouraged from attending school across Africa.

Ekiti State in southwest Nigeria has adopted a policy to ban the expulsion of girls from schools during and after pregnancy, an important step in ending the longstanding discriminatory practice.

Although Nigeria’s Child Rights Act protects the rights of girls to education during and after pregnancy, many continue to face expulsion because there is a lack of awareness and no policies in place to ensure their continuation in school.

Pregnancy is a barrier to girls continuing their education and governments have a duty to break this barrier by ensuring there are positive policies and regulations that help school-age pregnant girls and young mothers stay in or return to school. This is especially important given the high adolescent pregnancy rates in Nigeria, with girls between the ages of 15 and 19 accounting for 145 out of every 1,000 births.

Ekiti State has shown leadership by adopting the “Operation Keep Girls in School” policy but needs to do more to ensure its effectiveness. This should include efforts to create awareness among school management officials, teachers, communities, and girls themselves, and to monitor all schools to ensure they are enforcing this important policy.

President Muhammadu Buhari tells electorates in Bayelsa and Kogi states to exercise their franchise in a peaceful and orderly manner.
The Nigerian president reminds contestants in the elections that just as in all democratic elections, there are bound to be winners and losers in Bayelsa and Kogi polls .
Buhari urges all candidates in the elections to be ready to accept the outcomes of the polls President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, November 14, ordered law enforcement officials to use all legal means in ensuring that ballots are not stolen or hijacked during the governorship elections scheduled to be held in Bayelsa and Kogi states.
The Nigerian president in a statement via his officer twitter handle also implored electorates in Bayelsa and Kogi states to exercise their franchise in a peaceful and orderly manner and in line with the law in all situations.
The president reminded contestants that just as in all democratic elections, there are bound to be winners and losers in Bayelsa and Kogi polls.
He urged all candidates in the elections to accept the outcomes of the polls. Buhari said any candidate that is dissatisfied with the results of the elections should follow the due process of the law in seeking redress, noting that no one must resort to self-help.

Brescia striker Mario Balotelli has criticised the "small-minded" fans who shouted racist abuse at him on Sunday.

Balotelli, 29, kicked the ball into the crowd and threatened to walk off the pitch following abuse during Brescia's 2-1 away loss against Hellas Verona.

"This has nothing to do with football," said the Italian, who played for Manchester City and Liverpool.

"You are getting into social and historical situations that are bigger than you, you small-minded people."

Balotelli posted a message on Instagram in response to Luca Castellini, the head of the Verona ultras, who had said "Balotelli is Italian because he has Italian citizenship, but he can never be completely Italian."

Castellini added they had recently signed a black player "and the whole of Verona applauded him".

Balotelli, who has played 36 times for Italy and helped them reach the final of the 2012 European Championships, added: "Wake up you imbeciles, you are shambolic.
