President Muhammadu Buhari has told Nigerians not to re-elect state governors in the coming Election, who ignored to pay civil servants salaries in their first terms. Buhari advised that, Nigerians’ votes should go to those who have the ability to deliver positively to the masses. This was stated by President Muhammadu Buhari in an interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America, which was aired this morning, emphasizing that their is no explanation for the governors collecting bailout funds from the federal government and still fail in her capacity to pay wages. “I wonder how these governors are able to sleep knowing that they have refused to pay workers their wages". “These workers have families to cater for, they pay rent, pay school fees, Hospital bills and food for their families". “The Nigerian Constitution gives governors the independence to spend their funds without interference and that is why some are abusing that privilege by refusing to work for the people".PMB said. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) delegation arrived at the ministry at exactly 4:30 p.m yesterday, the government delegation arrived without the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, the government delegation was led by Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment. The meeting took place at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Abuja. If their is no changes, academic activities should resume in the public Universities next week as Federal Government has approved over N35.4 billion for the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, in his address after the meeting yesterday, said that, the majority of ASUU demands have been met including the release of N15.389.940,335.71 billion for payment of salary shortfalls.He further said that, it was remitted on December 31,2018. With respect to him, the Federal Government is also in the process of releasing another N20 billion for payment of earned allowances for university lecturers. According to him, ASUU is expected to feed the Government back between Wednesday, 9th or Thursday, 10th January, 2019 to sign the agreements reached by both parties. At the Meantime, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, the ASUU National President reported that, the National Executive Committee of the union need consultation and will evaluate their decisions based on the new commitment by the government. The government of Gabon has announced that, it was in control after a coup attempted by army rebels early today. They further stated that, most of those involved have been arrested. “Calm has returned, the situation is under control,” government spokesperson Guy-Bertrand Mapangou told the reporters. Earlier today, soldiers entered the state radio and announced to the people to “rise up,” a clear command to remove ailing President Ali Bongo, who is presently not in the country. President Ali Bongo, 59 years old, is receiving treatment in Morocco since November last year, due to a stroke. The federal government informed the press on Saturday, that the negotiation between the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), will resume today, with the hope of putting an end to the presently going on industrial action by the striking lecturers. The statement was issued on Saturday, in Abuja, by director of Press in the ministry, Mr Samuel Olowookere following the directive by Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige. With respect to the statement made by the Director of press in the ministry, the meeting is in advancement to efforts at having a solution to the on-going Strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). "The Minister of Labour and Employment Senator Chris Ngige is scheduled to hold a meeting with the Executive of ASUU. The conciliatory meeting is scheduled to hold on Jan. 7, at Minister’s Conference Room".He said. ASUU Strike started on November 5 to agitate for the demands of the agreement made in 2009.
