FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo has traced Nigeria’s inability to feed itself to bad governments. When asked if as a major farmer, he finds the agricultural business lucrative and whether he would advise Nigerians to go into farming, he replied that “if you want to become a billionaire, then don’t go into farming in Nigeria.” source http://thepointernewsonline.com/?p=1369 |

Fhemmmy:They are other area he can look at in agriculture he should not ignore good advice from experience people. Im base in akure, ondo state |
Vegetable farming is the best ewedu and efo i have been doing this for long. When it is sold for 30 to 70 naira per kilo it is really profitable. we have 2 kind of efo the white and the black. The white take 21 days and the black take 30 days .if you are interested in vegetable farming i will teach how to start and market your product. |
Have you ever heard of contract farming please make research about it |
See talking about agriculture in paper is very interesting. It is jst like a fary tales. I have nigeria politician for friend that is former minister of nigeria and presidential candiate of nigeria he told the only thing he regreted in his is to invest in agriculture. It keep doing it because he is stuck in the bussiness. I want to help you and please my question straight. What state do you live in? Invest in production of cassava starch the farmer will harvest and bring the product to you.a tonne of cassava is 7000 naira. Do be the farmer be the proccessor. The processor will always cheat the farmer. There is no price regulatary board. If you need cheap processing machine go futa or fiiro in oshodi they will help to build washer, piller, chipper, drying machine, hammer mil and bagging machine. A tonne of cassava starch is sold for 120k. That is alll for now. A man without experience is an optimistic man. |

Who have ear let them hear. I dey you the truth as brother |
My friend im going to advise you and other person on this forum why not to invest in agriculture. I believe this will help you and others They are alot of factor affecting agriculture in nigeria and i will list them. (1) Unavailability of labour (2) lack of appropriate techonology (3) poor transportation network (4) unstable price of product (5) theft and non compliance of labour to instruction (6) failure of government and more Now im going to tell you how this will make you fail no matter how smart you are, listen Unavailability of labour; people in the rural area are not willing to farm. if they agree to work for you will have alot to face with them they not follow your instruction and you cant say much to them because they will tell you they are not working anymore. so you dont have choice than to be romancing them with more money. and they will still not do the proper thing and they will be alot of neglegence on their part that will affect your business. if you bring in hire labour or contract laborer from the north they are more dangerous. most of this things you might not see as big deal now until you start you farm. agriculture is labour and capital intensive and you might make back your money talk-less of any profit be warned Lack of appropriate techonogy: only the approriate techonology will help to reduce the cost of labour and cost of production generally. you have to share tractor with hundred of people if you dont have your tractor and you might not have it on time from the government agency to do your job. If you can purchase hand tractor it will help you alot you can google what hand tractor is or see how it work on youtube. you can use it to do everything in the farm from plowing, harrowing, discing, ridging, harvesting, irrigation, transport and alot more. If you have this hand tractor it make agriculture more profitable and reduce cost of labour. the hand tractor is not expensive about $3000 in nigeria. but big and small farmer in nigeria do not have this simple machine that can do more it price if you dont have the appropriate technology please dont invest in agriculture you will cry. poor transport network; after producing you will be responsible for transportation factory the road are bad and cost of transportation is high and the price of produce is not stable see the list go on. i cant just keep writing you might not take my advice but surely eveybody will do their mistake. things might look normal when you start real farm you see the great problem and challenges. If agriculture is so profitable in nigeria why is government not running a state farm I will advise you to into processing of farm product instead of farming ask me how and i will tell you |
goshen360:you are very right. I have seen a lot of people regretting they have ever invested in agriculture. I have spend millions of naira on agriculture. if any body tell you he is a successful farmer in Nigeria. ask they where are they getting money to fund their life style and business. do not be deceive my friend. when government tell you to farm it is a pure propaganda. be warned |
My friend do not be deceive please do not invest in agriculture you will fail. try and see for yourself if you ask me i will tell you. Im taking from experience most rich nigerian that invest in nigeria agriculture sector are regreting they ever did. Im going to chill off for now and give you details if you really want to be succesfull |

Marriage will only make you poor and uninteresting. na so so money women know. Imagine make house wife they call aristo for money say because her husband no dey give enough money. I beg no marry. Women just expect alot from guys this days |
Please dont invest your money in agriculture in nigeria. You will loose money this is an honest advise. You might even recover what your investment. Tone of cassava is 7000 naira and you will have to transport it the company your self that will buy |
it depend on the cream of the karet. You can buy cheap Gold on amazon and ebay. |
Only with appropriate technology that will reduce the cost of labour will agriculture become profitable. It is expensive for farmers in nigeria to get the appropriate technology. |
Farmers suffer alot after planting and harvesting cassava take the cassave to processing company and they buy one tonne for 7000 Naira only. The average cost of leasing one hectare of land is 10,000 naira, tractor for ploughing,4000 naira, arrrow 3000 naira, ridges 4000 naira, herbercide 2500 naira, stem for planting 40,000 naira, diseal 7500 naira, Tractor men 6000 naira, fertilizer 10,000 naira cost of labour 6000, for aplying fertilizer 6000 naira to plant 1 hectare 6000 naira to apply herbide 30,000 naira for harvesting 30,000 naira cost of transportation factory 10,000 miscellaneous expenses Lets add up the cost of production and see if it is profitable. 10000+4000+3000+4000+2500+40,000+7500+6000+10,000+6000+6000+6000+30,000+10,000==175,000 naira The best average yield expected is between 15 to 25 tonne. Bumper harvest 30 tonnes . After 9 month cost of production =175,000 naira sale of cassava= 7000 x25= 175,000 naira My friend you you can only make little or no profit. |
@RDbusiness , Pleas have you seen anybody that make million in nigeria agriculture it is a very big lie. the people that are into agriculture are only doing it fun and most of them are retired nigeria politician. Alot of fish farmer are running away from the business. Im a arable crop farmer and i have been farming 50 hectares of land with poultry and fish farming. The main problem of agriculture in nigeria is labour and not really finance. Agriculture can on profitable if only farmer have the approriate technology Tell northern nigeria is the only region of the country that can farm because they have cheap labour. Please i beg you dont invest in agriculture if you do you will cry and loose money. |
Please do not invest in agriculture in nigeria. If you do you will cry. I have been an industrial farmer for the past seven years |
