Stephen Keshi, a former coach of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, who died in the early hours of Wednesday in Benin after a brief illness , will be immortalised – “I join millions of soccer followers across the world to mourn this illustrious son of Nigeria, Africa and the world,” Solomon Dalong, the the minister of youth and sports, has said. The federal government has pledged to immortalise the late Stephen Keshi, a legendary footballl player and manager of the Nigeria football national team. Reacting to the sudden death of the Super Eagles ex-coach Solomon Dalong, the minister of youth and sports, issued a condolence message, where he wrote: “I will formally inform the government of the death of this great Nigerian and I want to assure Nigerians that government will seek ways to immortalise him. It is with a heavy heart but gratitude to the almighty God that I, on behalf of the Ministry and the Federal Government of Nigeria, sympathise with the family of Coach Stephen Keshi (MON). I was really shocked by the news of his death. He was one of Nigeria’s heroes whose contributions to the development of football cannot be quantified. He was a trailblazer who dedicated his life and talents to his fatherland. I join millions of soccer followers across the world to mourn this illustrious son of Nigeria, Africa and the world.” Meanwhile, Ghana Football Association (FGA) has also paid tributes to the late Nigerian coach and footballer.
