To this end, the official portraits of Nigeria’s president-elect and his vice-president, have been unveiled by their media team in Abuja. And after being sworn in on 29 May, General Buhari will want to be addressed simply as:

Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria.
His deputy will be addressed as Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The lady that God has directed to my path and heart to marry is not and was not a model. PDP encouarges Buhari to be compassionate to everyone

National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday urged the President- elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, retd to see himself as a father of the nation who should live like late South Africa President, Nelson Mandela and forgive killers and arsonists.
Speaking with Journalists in Abuja, PDP deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus who was responding to General Buhari’s comment when some stakeholders and traditional rulers from Rivers state visited him Wednesday, said that as the President- elect, he should comment as a father on issues that may be brought before him, rather than take sides especially on issues awaiting adjudication and before a panel of inquiry or the judiciary.

According to PDP, Buhari needs to try to deal with such issues with passion of a father to all irrespective of party affiliation, adding that such utterances do not portray him as an elder statesman. Secondus said, ” the utterances of the President -elect when he received a delegation of some traditional rules from Rivers state do not portray him as a statesman. He is the president-elect and indeed the father of all. He should exercise caution and restraints in some issues, especially when such issues are still in court.

“The election tribunals in the country and even in Rivers state have just commenced sitting and unguarded statements could be seen as prejudici‎al and give negative signals. “The president-elect should emulate ‎the late President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela who assumed office as president of South Africa at such a critical time in the history of South Africa.” The PDP Deputy National Chairman who noted that it was unfair for Buhari to make such claims and statements when the issues involved, including the integrity of the governorship election in the state was subject of election tribunal, said, “He is the president -elect and soon to be sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not the president of the APC.”

Obasanjo Rejects Pleas To Jerk PDP Back To Life

One of the efforts at jerking the party back to life was pleading with ex president Olusegun Obasanjo who was also the party’s former chieftain who dramatically left the party months ahead of the general elections by tearing his membership card.

Recall that the PDP totally lost grounds in the recently conducted elections. While its presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan lost to the All Progressives Congress’ presidential candidate, Rtd. Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, the PDP ‘s majority status in the National Assembly also got lost as it won just a fewer number of states unlike in the past election. All these and more will turn the ruling party into a minority in the next political dispensation of Nigeria.

In order to bring back the power which was used in ruling the nation for 16 years without any interference from any other party, the few loyalist remaining in the party have decided to beg Obasanjo who they say is more than a party member to them but a godfather.

Premium Times reports that the former president is being persuaded by serving governors and federal lawmakers to return to the party and lead it so that it can be ready for the ‘opposition duty’ when the Mr. Buhari’s administration starts.

Some of the close friend of the former president revealed that the anxious party men have been pressuring the former leader, who was the first elected president on the party’s platform, by either visiting him or through telephone calls. This although, Obasanjo has been said to have refused blatantly.

“I’m done with party politics here on earth and in heaven. Period,” Obasanjo was overheard telling a PDP chieftain who called him recently to about the matter. Obasanjo was also said to have added that tearing his membership card publicly is a signal that he’s not returning to the party. He was quoted as saying his membership card has been shredded and that “as it is now, a goat has eaten up the pieces”.

In a telephone chat with Premium Times, the statesman made it known how he has been under pressure to return to the PDP but vowed not to do so.

“I’m not ready to discuss partisan politics because I’m done with it,” he said.

Not long ago, President Jonathan reportedly said Obasanjo was so bent on controlling his government that he would not mind installing the devil in power so long as he can control him.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu Mu’azu ​is sick and has been flown abroad. Though he was flown out of the country last week, his office kept mute about it, until Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose on Monday accused the PDP chairman of travelling out of the country for medical treatment during the election period without informing the president. He also insists he is sick and challenged him to deny his many allegations.

His media aide, Tony Amadi however released a press statement yesterday informing Nigerians that the PDP Chairman is sick and out of the country, and would not be returning until his medical doctors declare him fit.



“The National Chairman of PDP, Dr. Ahmad Adamu Mu’azu is sick and currently undergoing medical attention abroad and will return to the country as soon as his doctors are satisfied with his medical condition. He left the country last week and hopes to be back soon​,” the statement said.​



“The leader of the party, President Goodluck Jonathan, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party Chief Tony Anenih and Senate President Senator David Mark and members of the National Working Committee of the party are ​all​ aware of the Chairman’s medical trip abroad​,” he also said in another part of the statement.

Governor-elect of Kaduna State and former FCT Minister, Nasir el-Rufai, has said that the incoming government of Muhammadu Buhari would ask corrupt politicians to return every kobo stolen by them.

“We will politely ask those who stole government money to return the funds. This is because the people, who are in government now, are there to work for themselves. But the APC government is made up of people who are ready to work for the masses and the betterment of the country.

He also said that the Buhari would inherit a huge debt from the Goodluck Jonathan government.

He however said those (politicians) who were not corrupt had no cause to fear.

The governor-elect told executive members of the National Union of Textile Garments and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, who visited him in Kaduna, that such politicians must be ready to return all ill-gotten funds after May 29.

“We will work with the textile unions to ensure that the lives of the average Nigerians get better.”

The ex-minister decried the poor state of the textile industry in Kaduna State and gave assurance that he and his team would revamp it.

He lamented the current employment figure of 1,600 people in the textile sector, saying it's unacceptable. El-Rufai added that the textile industry in Kaduna alone used to employ about 33,000 workers.

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s Pioneer National Woman leader and member, PDP Board of Trustees, BoT, Iyom Josephine Anenih has demanded for the resignation of Alhaji Adamu Muazu and the National Working Committee due to the defeat by the All Progressives Congress, APC during the March 28 Presidential election .

She spoke to Vanguard and questioned why some party members now, will be thinking of personal power, she stressed that the PDP should only be thinking of a way to come back after the woefull defeat they suffered on the hands of the APC.

One would have thought the recent heavy losses the PDP suffered at the Presidential, National Assembly, Gubernatorial and State Assemblies would be reason enough for quiet introspection, but instead our Party leaders – having failed to defeat the APC – have turned to cannibals intent on devouring their own.

“The strength of a country in a nascent democracy such as ours is defined by the quality of the Opposition and the depth and maturity of political discourse, not just by the party in power. Yes, we have suffered a great defeat, but within this loss lies the opportunity to rediscover what made us great in the first place. The truth is that the PDP has lost its identity, we buried it beneath the hubris and vanity that comes with unrestrained power. We boasted we would rule for 60 years; we claimed no vacancy exists in Aso Rock. How wrong we were. We have been humbled by Nigerians who trooped to their polling units and chose to follow another path.

“In our humility, we must learn that as politicians we serve the people. The PDP, and those who want to see it recover from this near fatal defeat, need to do three things, quickly: The PDP needs a major policy review. The framework and thrust of the review should be geared towards an ideology anchored on developing and sustaining an egalitarian society that provides the simple things, to everyone: health, food, shelter, education, jobs.

” The National Chairman and the NWC have to resign. Not because any godfather or governor is demanding that they do, but because it is the right and honourable thing. We have just emerged from the elections with the worst results we have ever recorded.

The Chairman is the leader of the Party; he took the PDP into the General Elections and now, as a matter of principle, he must step aside for others to conduct an audit of the defeat he oversaw. It pains me to say this, because I know Adamu Muazu on a personal level. He is a fine gentleman and one of the few politicians who is compassionate and truly cares about the lives of those less privileged than themselves. Events and personalities conspired to sabotage the blueprint he had developed for the Party.

Life is hardly ever fair, but we must start to hold ourselves responsible and accountable for everything placed in our care. So I call on Muazu, my respected friend, to resign. As a member of the Board of Trustees, I think the PDP BOT also failed to live up to its responsibility as the Conscience of the Party. Where was the BOT’s voice when our Primaries were being rigged and we were losing disgruntled members to other Parties? Where was the BOT when our leaders were PUBLICLY asking people to vote for other parties in all elections apart from the Presidential election?

” Finally, we need to realize that our constituency now includes millions of young, upwardly mobile Nigerians who want to have more of a say in how their country is run. We can provide them with the platform. We need to restructure our Party if we are to survive as a credible Opposition Party. I believe we can only do so if we tap into the limitless energy, creativity, and passion of young Nigerians.”

Adamu Muazu had earlier today, stated that if he leaves the party, the party will fail to exist.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, soldiers who were sentenced to death for mutiny last year are allegedly being starved to death. The report below...

Sahara Reporters has learnt of a covert plan to ‘kill’ a group of soldiers who were arrested late last year on charges of mutiny and attempted murder. The soldiers who have been held since September last year managed to reach out to the outside world via text messages, using the opportunity to reveal the conditions they are being held in.

In an initial message, they sent this text to our reporter: “Greetings sir, we are the 12 soldiers sentenced to death \others detained at CIC Apapa, Lagos. We are to inform you that following our denial of access to our families, councils & even access to fund [sic] to feed our families\pay our legal fees, that as you know, we had been concealing our cell phone to help us hear from counsels.

The phone was collected on 6\5\15, in view of this, we have not been fed, We are on hand-cuff & leg chain, we are kept naked [sic] & deprived of even drinking water. As it stands now sir, our lives are at stake. We, therefore, plead with due respect that you intervene”. Our reporter then followed up trying to call the number but met with no success.

After a while, one of the accused reached our reporter again, this time in a voice call with a frantic message. “They are trying to kill us. They want to kill us” the voice said. He went on to inform our reporter that the authorities have noticed that they have access to a cell phone and have therefore resorted to using starving techniques as a form of punishment. He said they had not been fed nor given any water for about five days.

Last year the story broke of some 12 soldiers who were reined in by the military authorities for allegedly refusing to confront Boko Haram militants and firing at their commanding officer in the northeastern city of Maiduguri in May. The soldiers were reportedly angry after a convoy was ambushed on a road frequently targeted by Islamist Boko Haram militants and decided to protest to the authorities who they blamed for underequipped and underpaying them.

Military recovers Boko Haram’s video recordings

The Director, Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, has confirmed that troops of the Nigerian Army recovered video recordings of the heinous acts perpetrated by the Boko Haram insurgents.


Olukolade, however, refused to disclose further information about the crimes against humanity captured in the videos in possession of the military.

“It is true that troops have captured some video recordings of the terrorists but I would not want to say anything on that for now,” he said.

He also confirmed to an Abuja based media consultancy firm to security agencies, the PR Nigeria, that the videos were being analysed by the military.


“A number of vital materials, apart from arms and ammunition, have been recovered which are being subjected to intelligent analysis. We don’t want to say much about that now.” Olukolade was quoted as saying.

Investigation revealed that the videos have scenes of trials, stoning of condemned people to death, amputations, beheading of victims with knives and summary execution through shooting.

It was learnt that the Joint Investigating Panel of the security agencies had commenced investigation into the activities of the terrorists and would soon present those found to be culpable of these heinous acts for trial.

It was stated that the military was taking the issue of the videos seriously because they were being prepared for posting on YouTube to create fear in the civil populace.

PR Nigeria quoted a military as saying, “Some of the video were meant for release through their normal channels to the public before they were dislodged from their camps. They also show the barbaric life in their so-called caliphate.

“The media and the public are advised to be careful in handling or sharing sensitive and offensive videos depicting atrocities that some viewers may find disturbing.”

A chieftain of the APC, Chief Inibehe Okori, has said that the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, will shock many, especially critics, with his pronouncements on May 29 as soon as he takes over power.

“Unlike other presidents who were not prepared for leadership but foisted on the country by individuals and interest groups, the President-elect has consistently presented himself to the electorate to lead the country on four occasions and had his visions well enunciated.

“Buhari is taking over government on May 29 and from that day,

I expect that he will make major pronouncements that will position Nigeria for greatness. This country must have a direction and move in the way it should. We don’t have any reason to be poor. We have no reason to remain the way we are – not after earning more than $50bn annually from oil and gas.”
Speaking in Akwa Ibom State capital, Uyo, Chief Okori, who is the party’s senatorial candidate for the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial district, added that Buhari’s proclamation, dedication and discipline will go a long way in restoring hope, faith and confidence of the citizens in the country.

Explaining that the expectations of the people from the incoming administration were high, he noted that there is the need for Nigerians to be patient with Buhari’s administration to deliver its promises.

He assured that within one year of Buhari’s presidency, the international perception about the country would change and Nigeria would regain her rightful place in the comity of nations.

Minister of Environment, Mrs. Laurentia Laraba Mallam has announced that the Federal Government has commenced a process to review the National Environmental Sanitation Policy.

FG To Review Environmental Sanitation Policy

Mallam said the review is vital due to changes in public health practices which have evolved since the NES policy was inaugurated 10 years ago.

Speaking during the inauguration of an Inter-Ministerial Committee on the NES at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja, Mallam said: “With the current trend of developmental challenges and advent of new areas of sanitation practice, it is absolutely imperative for Nigeria to review the existing NES policy in order to comply with international best practices and also to harmonise grey areas that are of concern to stakeholders for the overall maintenance of sound public health.

“The ministry is in the process of reviewing these documents to re-strategize on all goals and achievable implementation plans for national environmental sanitation.”

Mallam expressed sadness that environmental sanitation across the country is no longer being Observed by many families whenever it was time for the regular monthly sanitation exercise as observed in many states.

She noted that the cross-cutting dimension of environmental sanitation issues and the magnitude of the problems called for collective responsibility for Nigeria.

“It is against this background that the existing membership of the standing inter-ministerial committee for the National Environmental Sanitation Day is being broadened to incorporate more stakeholders”.

“The new members of the inter-ministerial steering committee on NES have been drawn from relevant federal ministries and extra-ministerial departments, donor agencies, the armed forces, para-military organisations, NGOs and bilateral organisations,” she said.

There have been numerous calls by individuals and organisations alike for the environmental sanitation which is usually held every last Saturday of the month between 7am – 10am to be cancelled.

The sanitiation exercises were 1st implemented by the Colonial Government between 1900 – 1904. The earliest form of the enviromental policy which was 1st adopted in Lagos was the ‘Cantonment Proclamation of 1904 on the Layout and Sanitation of GRA’ .

Other policies were the Public Health Act of 1909 on Environmental Sanitationand the Township Ordinance No. 29 of 1917 on Sanitation and Environmental Management.

FG plotting to sabotage smooth handover – APC alleges

The All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday accused the out-going President Goodluck Jonathan administration of plotting to hinder a smooth handover of power to the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) on May 29. President Goodluck Jonathan had, on Wednesday, accused the APC of acting like a parallel government and trying to stampede his administraton out of office by making impossible demands in the terms of reference of the President-elect’s transition committee.

Briefing newsmen after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Suleiman, a member of Jonathan’s transition committee, said the council frowned at the terms of reference of the in-coming government and warned that the President’s magnanimity should not be construed as cowardice. He said the council agreed that Dr Goodluck Jonathan remains the President of the country until May 29 and the in-coming government should avoid creating a parallel government.

Justifying its claim that the Jonathan administration was plotting to hinder a smooth transition of power, APC said: “While the outgoing government had earlier issued a memo to all ministries, departments and agencies to make sure their handover notes are ready by April 20, the same government has now reversed itself and said the handover notes will not be ready until May 14.

“With the new date, the Buhari transition committee will have little or no time to take a thorough look at the handover notes or seek clarification on knotty issues, effectively handing it (Buhari Transition Committee) a fait accompli as far as the handover notes are concerned. This does not augur well for a smooth transition and gives the impression that the outgoing administration is trying to hide something. “By its dilly-dallying on the date for the readiness of the handover notes from the MDAs, the administration’s posturing that it is ready to hand over has been exposed as nothing but a smokescreen.”

Responding yesterday to President Jonathan’s accusation, the APC in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said it was becoming apparent that the Jonathan administration will not fully cooperate with the incoming government, despite its public posturing in that regard.

The party also described as “an act of hostility and a patently-misplaced aggression the unnecessary vituperation against the incoming Buhari administration by the Jonathan government, ostensibly because of the terms of reference of the Buhari transition committee but in reality part of an orchestrated plot to sabotage the transition.” It rejected the continued blackmail by the Jonathan administration as a result of President Jonathan’s concession of defeat, wondering whether the concession, gracious as it was, has now become a shield for all wrong doings. The party said: “We are sick and tired of being blackmailed by the Jonathanians.

Nigerian Troops Rescue More Women, Children Yesterday At Sambisa Forest

After rescuing 200 girls, and 93 women at the Sambisa forest in Borno State and other neighbouring camps of Boko Haram, the Nigerian troops yesterday have rescued more women and children from the said forests. According to the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman who made this known to press men yesterday said a soldier died, while four others were injured, but many boko haram insurgents were killed in the battle. “I wish to inform you that today (Wednesday) evening, troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army also cleared several terrorists strong points and training camps within Sambisa forest, Borno State, Nigeria.

“During the encounter unfortunately we lost a soldier, while 4 others were wounded in action. The troops have also killed several Boko Haram field commanders and foot soldiers and destroyed 2 Armoured Personnel Carriers, 2 Buffalo vehicles mounted with Anti-Aircraft Guns, a truck and several Hilux vehicles.

“The gallant soldiers also recovered 1 Anti-Aircraft Gun, 1 General Purpose Machine Gun, 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade and several AK-47 rifles. Sadly, 1 woman died and 8 other women sustained gun shot wounds.

“So far, the troops have destroyed 9 terrorist camps in the forest. This is in addition to the 4 destroyed yesterday. The destroyed camps includes Wulari Bukar, Gangala, Anguwar Bakwai and Jigide. Others include Kotorima, Lagara Bello and Lagara Fulani among others.



“I am glad to say that troops’ morale is very high as they are poised to accomplish the task of destroying all terrorists camps and rescuing all those held hostage by the terrorists”.

Fuel scarcity: Federal Government to pay marketers N156bn fuel subsidy claims

In order to prevent current fuel scarcity, The Federal Government, yesterday, said it would pay MOWAN N156 billion, out of the about N256.2 billion the marketers claim is owed to them in subsidy claims.

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala made this statement at the World Customs Day event held in Abuja yesterday, expressed optimism that the payment, which is expected to be made today, will help address the current fuel scarcity plaguing the country. According to her, the Federal Government is committed to ending the fuel scarcity within the shortest time and that despite the revenue challenges facing the government, the issue of fuel subsidy payments to oil marketers remain a huge priority.

She stated further that “We have been engaging oil marketers over the scarcity issue. We paid them N350 billion and N31 billion in the foreign exchange differential in December. “Tomorrow (which is today), we will be paying them N100 billion for which we had earlier given them IOUs, and interest rate differentials of N56 billion. I am about to sign to get that paid and I think Nigerians will agree that the government is making good effort to accom­modate the oil marketers. They are also Nigerians and they also need to co-operate with us".

The Minis­ter of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, stated that the in­coming administration of Gen Muhammodu Buhari will not inherit fuel scarcity immediately because the coun­try has enough fuel in its reserves for almost 1 month, 27 days to be precise.

She said “I want to assure that we have enough fuel to supply and the problem is not that we do not have fuel on ground. We have a problem with the tanker drivers and that has to do with the non-payment of fuel subsidy claims But from tomorrow (which is today), the Coordinating Minister of economy is going to start pay­ing off some of the liabilities we have in that sector and it will ease off,’’.

FG sacks Director of FAAN over appointment irregularities

The Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has sacked the Director of finance of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr Tochukwu Bede Uchendu, over allegations of irregularities associated with his appointment into office as well as granting unapproved waivers worth N1 billion.

Mr Uchendu's sack was effected following a petition by the Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) dated March 23rd and addressed to the office of the Head of Service.


The unions had alleged that he was still serving as a director in a company owned by the minister, Consumer Investment Limited, and therefore “it is obvious that he may not be able to discharge his duties without fear or favor as he would have to contend with conflict of interests because of his ownership as a board member of Consumer Investment Limited, a company which the wife of the minister is also a serving Director.”

His sack which was contained in a letter dated April 27, 2015, and signed by the director of Human Resources, A. A. Tsafe, for the minister of aviation reads in part
“I wish to refer to our letter reference number FMA/FAAN/7090/T2/105 dated March 13, 2015, on the above subject and regretfully inform you that the letter is hereby withdrawn pending the conclusion of the necessary due process on the matter, when that is concluded, FAAN, the appropriate authority, will issue you with a formal letter of appointment. We regretfully inform you that the letter (his appointment letter) is hereby withdrawn pending the conclusion of the necessary due process on the matter,” the ministry stated.

The letter further directed Mr Tochukwu Uchendu to vacate the office until the due process was concluded and formal letter of appointment issued to him.

Jonathan, Sambo, Ministers, others to get N3.24bn severance pay

According to the Remuneration Package put together by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice-president Namadi Sambo, non-returning Senators and House of Representatives members, ministers and presidential aides will be paid a severance package of about N3.24bn as their stay in office terminates on May 29th this year.

According to Punch, President Jonathan is entitled to 300 per cent of his annual basic salary which is put at N3, 514,705 and therefore his severance allowance will be N10, 544,115 after May 29. This however does not affect his constitutional benefits as a former President.


In the same vein, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, is entitled to 300 percent of his basic salary which is put at N3, 031,572.50. This means that his severance allowance after May 29 is N9, 094,717.50. He is also entitled to his constitutional benefits as a former Vice President.
76 senators who will not be returning to the National Assembly will be entitled to N462,019,200 at the expiration of their tenure on June 5. They too are entitled to 300 per cent of their annual basic salaries as severance allowances. This amounts to N6, 079,200 per senator.
290 members of the House of Representatives will not be returning to the National Assembly. They are entitled to N5, 955,637.50 each as severance allowance. This means that they will be paid N1, 727,134,875.
The ministers, on the other hand, will be collecting a total of N253, 967,212.5. There are 42 ministers in Jonathan’s cabinet. Thirty one of them are senior ministers and 11 are ministers of state.
Each of the senior ministers is entitled to N6, 079,200 severance allowance while each of the ministers of state will receive N5, 872,740.
There are 113 aides who work with the President, Vice President, Office of the First Lady as special advisers, senior special assistants or special assistants to the President. Each of them is entitled to 300 per cent of their annual basic salary which amounts to N5, 828,625.

Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm of a fresh plot by incumbent governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to halt the inauguration of governor-elect, Nyesome Wike.

According to the party, the state governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were plotting to secure a court injunction to stop the swearing in of the Governor-elect, Chief Nyesom Wike, on May 29, The Sun reports.

The party made the allegation yesterday, in a statement issued by its Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of Wike Campaign Organisation, Emma Okah.

Okah alleged that Amaechi and APC had plotted to get the injunction from a court in Awka, Anambra State, against the May 29, 2015, swearing in of Wike.

According to Okah, “the plot was to shop for and buy a judge outside Rivers State, who will agree to do the dirty job since the judiciary in the state has been paralysed by the Amaechi administration.”

The PDP further accused Governor Amaechi and APC of “leaving no stone unturned in planning to carry out the governor’s threat that he will not handover to Chief Wike.”

Okah however appealed to Rivers people to remain calm, assuring that the governor-elect would be sworn in on May 29, like his colleagues in other states.

Ondo State Deputy Governor’s Impeachment, A Joke

Alhaji Ali Olanusi has described his removal by the Ondo State House of Assembly as deputy governor as a huge joke. He spoke through his lawyer, Oluwole Kayode, hours after the Commissioner for Agriculture, Lasisi Oluboyo, was sworn in as the state’s new deputy governor.

Olanusi’s travails began a month ago when he dumped the PDP for the APC. In condemning his impeachment, he reminded the lawmakers of an April 23 court order that the status quo be maintained in respect of his office.

He said, “Another action in respect of the same office and the impeachment process is pending in court and will come up on May 7, 2015.

“I think public office holders and people who are put in positions to defend the Nigerian constitution must be law abiding.

“In the light of this disobedience to a court order and the impunity displayed in the course of the impeachment proceedings, the deputy governor is on solid ground. The action is illegal and a juge joke.”


Olanusi’s impeachment followed the submission on Monday of a report by the seven-man panel constituted by Chief Judge Olasehinde Kumuyi.

After considering the report on Monday, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Ifedayo Akinsoyinu, moved the motion for the impeachment of the deputy governor.

Akinsoyinu based his motion on the report which indicted Olanusi of the allegations of gross misconduct that was leveled against him by the assembly.

The process for the illegal impeachment of the deputy governor lasted barely a week with the service of the impeachment notice on him. The case comes on in court on May 7.

Igbo People; Things You Should Know About Nigerian Politics

I have taken conscious steps to understand the way our democratic system works and have been kept abreast of every political situation that is of national interest in Nigeria. And my findings in comparison with the political history of Nigeria show that the game of politics in Nigeria is best played and won by those who have “Dynamic and flexible political philosophy” than those who believe in “Static and rigid political philosophy”. This is where the Igbos get it wrong.

I consider myself as being a part of Igbo since one of my uncles got married to an Igbo woman from Imo State. Besides, 20% of my best friends are Igbos so I have a bond with the Igbo people and whatever affects them worries me too and I hope they get it right from this political dispensation.

Shortly after All Progressives Congress (APC) was formed on 6 February 2013, some people had ambivalent feelings toward the party and most of my Igbo friends including other Igbos I interacted with told me that they will never support APC that it is a Hausa party and that they prefer PDP to APC.

I didn’t argue with them much since everyone is entitle to his opinion and choose which party to support.
The level of apathy the Igbo people have towards the North, Buhari and APC is so alarming that kept me wondering how they want to spring up politically in Nigeria without the North. History has shown that no geo-political Zone in Nigeria can excel politically at the national level without the North. This is an obvious fact that I feel the Igbo nation should know.

Nigeria’s colonial masters gave the North the political power in Nigeria from colonial to post colonial eras more than any other region and as a result, they must play a significant role for anybody to succeed in national politics.

No matter the wrongs the North might have done to the Igbo nation, they must learn to forgive and move on. In politics, there is no permanent friend and no permanent enemy because of changing political and personal interests. Even Buhari has told Nigerians to learn to forgive if they must make the change they want to make and move forward in life.

The way the 2015 general elections was conducted in the Igbo states, I knew that their hatred for the North was reignited even against non-northerners like Chris Ngigie just because he contested on the platform of APC without having done anything wrong to his people.

Chris Ngigie, who represents Anambra-Central and who would have been the Senate President in the 8th National Assembly was denied re-election by his people just because of being in APC including all those who contested on the platform of APC in the Igbo states. As a result, the Senate President which was supposed to come from the zone would no longer be possible.

There are great lessons to be learnt from history and the political events of our time and if the Igbos must be relevant in national politics, they must desist from their long lasting apathy against the North and resolve whatever differences they have as soon as they can and create a mutual understanding with the North and other Geo-political Zones.

If the Igbo people will not do anything on this issue now, I am sorry to say that they will be heading to “POLITICAL WILDERNESS”. I hope this does not happen because Nigeria cannot divide and so the creation of the Republic of Biafra cannot be possible. So the only way is for the Igbos to find their way into the Nigerian political mechanism by embracing new political ideologies.

Non-Payment Of Salaries: Aregbesola Urges Labour Leaders To Suggest Ways Of Raising Money

Following agitations by civil servants in Osun State over the non-payment of salaries, the State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola has challenged labour leaders in the state to suggest how his administration could generate more funds to meet its obligations. It will be recalled that the All Progressives Congress in the State in December, 2014 had said the allocation accruing to the state had fallen from N3.8bn per month to N1.3bn.

The labour leaders have however said the government should consider the re-introduction of PTA back to schools to be able to raise little money considering that the people of Osun have been enjoying free healthcare, free education coupled with free meal for the students.

They also recommended that the governor should prioritise capital projects and complete them in phases. Also a review of some laws which stipulate fines of as low as N20 or N50 as punishment for non-payment of some taxes should be considered.

They also advised the government to stop illegal mining of solid mineral resources such as gold and tantalite in the state.

South-East wont have Principal Officers in Buhari's government

A member of National Executive Council of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has revealed that the South-East would not produce any of the principal officers in the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The NEC member said the inability of the region to produce a senator or a member of the House of Representatives in the April 11 elections shut out the zone from producing any principal officer.

He said, “The national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Tinubu, has gone to the US. He will also be in London. If Senator Chris Ngige had won his election into the Senate, he would have been an automatic candidate for the senate presidency.

“There’s no way a PDP senator or federal lawmaker would be selected for any of the principal posts which include the senate presidency, deputy senate presidency, speaker and deputy speaker. You cannot be a senate president or speaker if you are not a ranking member of the leading party in the House.”

The NEC member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the idea of picking a PDP senator-elect or House of Representatives-elect as a principal officer for APC is impossible.


Also, the Governorship candidate of APGA for the April 25 re-run election in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, made a surprise appearance at the APC national secretariat in Abuja to plead for cooperation.

APC Chieftain, Chief Bola Tinubu has released a statement calling on the Ogun state Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu to hold on to his praises as he does not need them. Recall that Chief Buruji had in a open letter last week called the former Governor his role model and the architect of modern day democracy and asked for them to collaborate for the upliftment of the yorubaland even though they are from different political parties.


Tinubu in a statement released by his media aide, Segun Dada yesterday April 21st, said Buruji who worked with other PDP members to produce a defamatory document against him, Gen Buhari and other APC members cannot all of a sudden begin to sing his praises. The statement in part reads;
"The days of false adulation are gone in Nigerian politics. Fake praise singers like Kashamu will find that their particular craft is no longer in vogue. During this election cycle, their practice has dramatically turned from the way things are to how things used to be. Politicians will no longer be able to change direction and loyalties as if they were changing clothes. Those in politics must know that responsibility and accountability shall now follow them. One can no longer walk both sides of the street at the same time. In case Kashamu has not noticed, the politics of principle defeated the politics of posturing. Kashamu may be prodigal but he is no political son of Tinubu. Kashamu’s political lineage tracks to people like Bode George and President Jonathan. He should direct his encomiums to these men who are his true role models. They need his contrived affections more than Tinubu does. This same Kashamu rained insults on former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a vicious campaign of calumny. Kashamu’s party, the PDP, sponsored defamatory documentaries full of lies and innuendos against me, General Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the APC. Please keep your peace until you make your trip to the USA as a senator-elect. Upon your return we can then have a conversation. We can then proceed with your repudiation of the PDP with a promise that you will stop corrupting and fouling the political system. The Senior Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, has said that he stands by his words that the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, is not an electable leader.

Many critics APC candidate, including the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, who, in the buildup to the March 28 election, condemned Buhari, had subsequently apologised after he won the election.

But Okupe is not ready to change. He said: “These are very interesting times in our nation.

An election has come and gone. A victor has emerged and the loser has conceded. Yet some of our folks are behaving as if we have just gone through a war between two hostile nations.

"The APC agents all over the place are unrelenting in their tirades of abuses, insults and lies against President Goodluck Jonathan, his aides and supporters.
“It is shameful that we are still saddled with denying falsehood and fabrications in the social media and even by hitherto highly respected newspapers.

“Missing $20bn found in an account in Zenith. PGEJ returns tons of dollars to federation accounts. N2tn spent on elections by PGEJ. Okupe says Chibok girls will not be found. How many lies, deliberate falsehood and evil propaganda, outright curses and attacks must we suffer just because we lost an election in which we were never disgraced?

“Buhari polled 15m (56 per cent) while Jonathan scored 12m (46per cent). Those who talk to us disparagingly should respect the sentiments of the 12m Nigerians who voted for Jonathan...

“Yes, I said Buhari was not electable. I also said his victory will not happen. I said and I still insist that Buhari has no WAEC certificate. I said a lot of things to promote my candidate and many things to put his opponent down.

“I have no regrets for any of the statements I made. For anyone who cares. We will be back, period.”

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will soon be meeting to decide on the zoning of offices among the six geo-political zones.

According to sources, the North Central caucus of the party wants the position of the Senate presidency.

Senate Presidency: APC Hunt For Leader

The Senate presidency position is also wanted by the North West due to them having the highest number of APC senators.

This is being considered by the party, and candidates on the shortlist are the former governor of Zamfara state, Senator Ahmed Sani, fondly known as Yerima, and Senator Kabiru Gaya.

The North Central APC caucus, in a communique by the zonal chairman the party, Zakari Ede, and the six state chairmen in the region, said that the party would be the majority in the incoming administration.

They demanded the Senate presidency because their zone did well for the party during the elections, and claimed that giving the position of Senate president to the North Central zone would be a reward for their performance.

Insisting that the success in the North Central zone, being a vulnerable zone, should not be taken for granted, they said it would only be just and equitable for the position of the Senate president to be allotted to the zone.

The communique read: “Following our party’s overwhelming victory at the National Assembly polls, it is clear that our party will form the majority in the forthcoming eight Assembly.

“We need to emphasize here that North Central is a vulnerable zone and our success and victory should not be taken for granted.

“On the basis of the above reasoning, we therefore came to the conclusion and we humbly wish to state that, it would only be just and equitable for the position of the Senate President to be allotted to the North Central Zone and we hereby demand for same.”

High ranking senators from the North-West geo-political zone have began lobbying for the position of Senate president, and some sources deep in the party believe that the position is likely to be zoned to the area.

Senator Ahmed Sani looks to be the leading candidate from the zone which produced the president-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd).

There are 20 senators from the North-West, eight of them ranking, having been elected more than twice, while some have come from the House of Representatives, where they are also considered as ranking members in the chamber.
