Gentlemen of the media, on behalf of the Registrar to Council, the Management and Staff of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, I am delighted to welcome you to this press briefing, my first with you since assuming office as the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC. We have invited you here today to acquaint you with our preparations and readiness for the conduct of the much -awaited WASSCE for School Candidates, 2020.

As you are aware, the examination was earlier scheduled to take place between the 6th of April and 5th of June, 2020, but had to be postponed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The examination will now hold between 3rd August and 5th September, 2020, covering a space of five (5) weeks.

There is a novel development in this arrangement in the sense that the examination would be held from Monday through Saturday, in order to be able to achieve the five-week span. A total of One Million Five Hundred and Forty Nine Thousand Four Hundred and Sixty Three (1,549, 463) candidates have registered for the diet from 19,129 schools out of which 786,421 are males and 763,042 are females.

The choice of the period (August 3rd to September 5th, 2020) for the conduct of the examination was not arbitrarily set. WAEC consulted extensively with the governments of all the five member countries before arriving at the period and duration of the examination.

In deference to the Federal Government of Nigeria, the five-week arrangement was arrived at in order to make room for the other Examining Bodies to equally conduct their examinations in good time. The shortening of the period is also of advantage in terms of reducing the period of mass social interaction with its attendant consequences.

During the waiting period, we continued to fine tune and perfect all arrangements for the smooth and successful conduct of the examination and I am happy to inform you that we are set to conduct the examination in Nigeria.
In conducting the examination, we have taken due cognizance of the various measures/protocols rolled out by the Federal and State governments of Nigeria, aimed at checking the spread of the pandemic. We have encapsulated all these measures in a pamphlet which will be circulated to all stakeholders for their necessary guidance.

For the sake of emphasis, schools must provide wash-hand buckets with running water, soaps, hand sanitizers and thermometer hand-gun to check the temperature of all concerned.

All examination functionaries, including the Council’s staff on distribution; Supervisors; Invigilators, Inspectors; candidates and school officials will be required to wear face masks, wash and sanitize their hands daily and throughout the duration of the examination.

Let me assure you and the general public that we shall adhere strictly to social/physical distancing in the examination halls by making sure that candidates sit two (2) metres apart.

This means that many more classrooms will be used and many more supervisors and invigilators will be required to conduct the examination. This has certainly raised the supervision fee to be paid to supervisors as well as the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to staff, Supervisors and other examination officials. No doubt, all these measures have financial implications which were not contemplated at the time of drawing up the budget for the conduct of the examination.

The big question looming now is how can this extra fund be raised?
On this note, therefore, we are appealing to the governments at various levels to come to our aid. We equally call on Multi-National companies, corporate organizations and philanthropic individuals to donate these PPE to us.

It is essential that all examination functionaries are well kitted to avoid the spread of the disease. May I also use this medium to escalate our challenge to the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19 and to humbly request for any possible assistance.

WAEC has Zonal and Branch Offices all over the Federation.

The various state governments can donate the required PPE to the WAEC offices in their states.
Gentlemen of the media, these are no normal times.

This examination is going to be conducted under a very unfriendly atmosphere and conditions. I will like to use this opportunity to advise all schools and candidates to make the best use of the situation in order to turn adversity into success.

I must not fail to warn all schools and candidates to shun any form of examination malpractice. Lack of preparedness is not an excuse to cheat. For the benefit of doubt, standards already set remain sacrosanct.

Do not delude yourself by thinking that they will be lowered due to the prevailing circumstances. Therefore, as usual, you get what you deserve. It will be a double tragedy for any candidate to write the examination under very difficult circumstances and not to have any result.

Schools and candidates must resist the temptation of patronizing dubious websites that claim or would claim to have examination questions at their disposal.

We cannot claim not to know that they are right now strategizing on their evil machinations. They are fake and conscienceless destiny destroyers. Self-reliance is the sure key to success.

The Final International Timetable has been sent to all the WAEC Zonal and Branch Offices for onward dispatch to schools and Federal and State Ministries of Education.

JUPEB 2020/2021 Registration

This is to inform candidates who are interested in JUPEB programme for the 2020/2021 session that the registration for the session has commence since 20th of April 2020 and closes very soon. The total school fees for JUPEB program is N255,000 which varies for some centres in Lagos, Abuja e.t.c.. The Registration fee is N15,000 only and can be paid using any of the available channels.

Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board is a programme approved by Federal Government of Nigeria that candidates who passed the exam can use to gain admission into 200 level in combination with Direct Entry form into any of the lists of JUPEB affiliated universities in Nigeria and abroad.

The programme which is coordinated by the University of Lagos is a year programme divided into two sessions of First Semester and Second Semester.

Is IJMB Still On: IJMB 2019/2020 final examination is just less than 3 months away; you might be asking yourself these questions “Is IJMB Still On“, “Is IJMB Form Out“….YES! The question depends on what session you are concerned about. If you’re concerned about the session that’ll write exam February 2020, Registration has closed for that session but if you’re concerned about the new session that is to commenced lecture February 24th, 2020, Registration has started officially since November 3rd, 2019 and will close very soon.

Guys please I need advice and suggestions. There's this three-bedroom bungalow I'm building in my mum village through a cousin who is a building contractor.

Interim Joint Matriculation Board, that is the full meaning of IJMB. Is a programme that is being moderated and supervised by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU,Zaria). The Real Purpose of IJMB


Well, I think I have made mentioned of the main purpose o f IJMB – is to see you through and gain admission into 200 Level of any university of your choice, except of course Unilag. How To Make Use Of Your IJMB Result

To use your IJMB result to gain admission into 200 Level, you need to visit JAMB website or their nearest office to obtain D.E form (Direct Entry), fill them in correlation with your IJMB result, by then you have the opportunity to choose first and second choice university. Another interest thing is, you have the opportunity of choosing your course which will be determined by how many points you were able to obtain from the IJMB exam from your IJMB result.

IJMB Year To Year Calendar

IJMB calendar starts by November every year and it ends by April for the registration of the following year. By March, while the registration is still going on, the lectures for the session will start, which is usually within the mid of March and early April. The lectures will run through to December from that March/ April. For January the revision for the session will start. IJMB examination can start from late January or early February, and the examination last for three weeks. By late April the same year the result will be released. Henceforth, all vehicles with tinted glasses are to be searched before being allowed into the Presidential Villa, the Presidency has warned.
It is all part of new security measures to forestall terror attacks at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, according to Mr B. Abubakar, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to President Muhammadu Buhari. In a January 26 circular, he directed all tinted cars and other vehicles to be thoroughly searched.

According to him, most of the major attacks by terrorist groups around the world against high profile targets were done with hijacked vehicles or tinted vehicles.
The circular titled: ‘Use of tinted cars around the Presidential Villa, Abuja’ reads:
“It has been observed that some staff of the Presidential Villa driving tinted cars, especially security personnel are in the habit of refusing to wind down their windscreen for security checks before driving into the Villa.
“It is most worrisome that some of them use the excuse of either driving official cars or driving VIPs to justify their acts.
“This act, which is not in tandem with standard security drill and procedure, poses serious threat to the safety and security of the Villa.
“It is important to note that the insistence of security operatives at the pilot gates to properly screen vehicles coming into the Villa whether tinted or not tinted, official or unofficial is not out of place.
“Therefore, there is need for all to subject themselves and their vehicles to security checks as the case may be, so as to prevent unscrupulous elements from exploring the situation to launch attacks on the Villa.
“More so, that most of the major attacks by terrorists groups on high profile targets around the world are being carried out using hijacked vehicles or vehicles with tinted glasses.”

But 5 Crew Members Held Hostage
The navy in Benin Republic is now guarding a Greek-owned oil tanker hijacked by Nigerian militants who are holding five crew members hostage in Nigeria, a Nigerian agency that issues government statements and a shipping security expert said on Wednesday.
The ship is anchored off Cotonou, Benin’s commercial capital, PR Nigeria agency reported. It gave no other details and no news of the crew and hijackers.
The hijackers disembarked from the vessel on Sunday and took five hostages with them
— the captain, chief engineer, third engineer, the electrician and a fitter, said Dirk Steffen, maritime security director of Denmark-based Risk Intelligence.
The ship then sailed to Cotonou, he told The Associated Press.
Earlier Nigerian officers said the vessel was hijacked on Friday by separatists threatening to blow it up with its crew unless officials release Nnamdi Kanu, the director of the banned Radio Biafra

The Presidency responded to reports that President Buhari has only achieved 1 out of his 222 electoral promises .
The Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, reacted by saying that the president has successfully blocked the leakages in the system within the last seven months he has been in office.
He said:
“Doesn’t the President deserve credit for this and other efforts to confront the monster of corruption?”
“He is making good strides towards improving governance by tackling corruption. Till date, a good number of persons believed to have collectively stolen billions from taxpayers have been arrested and are facing the courts.
“We are working with our allies across the world from Britain and America to France and Germany to China and the UAE to source, locate and repatriate misappropriated funds.“So far, an escrow account has been opened for money that is being returned. This is only the start. The return of stolen funds is important, but it is just as critical to ensure that those who seek to steal realise that no longer will there be such impunity in Nigeria.”
He also condemned recent false reports by the Centre for Democracy and Development adding that the centre was mischievous to attribute promises Pres. Buhari did not make during his campaign.
He said:
“The latest CDD episode is a shocking reminder to their failed attempt to hold the President to ‘100 promises in 100 days’ which disastrously crashed on the head of the proponent.
“The elevation of the act to a new high of 220 promises is a knee-jerk reaction that seeks to play to the gallery and score points against the President.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC on Saturday January 30th, stormed the Abuja office of former Vice President Namadi Sambo, ransacked it for documents and also seized $50,000.
According to a report by The Nation, the anti-graft agency may have ransacked his office over an alleged N20 million monthly subvention he received from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) while he was Vice President.
It was learnt that the search was informed by the unusual movement of hefty bags into the office of Sambo’s Manyatha Company on Saturday. EFCC sources say the relocation of the suspicious bags from Sambo’s home to the office made the agency act swiftly.
One of the EFCC sources said
“The ongoing investigation of $2.1 billion arms cash under ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki has been extended to the former VP. The search started on Saturday till the early hours of Monday. Apart from getting N20 million monthly from ONSA, we got tip-off on movement of some bags loaded with hard currency. All we did was to investigate this clue by searching the ex-VP’s office in a cautious manner and in the full glare of the employees. At the appropriate time, we will inform the public of our findings. We are also looking at the circumstances behind the N20 million grant allocated to the ex-VP’s office by the ONSA. Ordinarily, a sitting VP has a budget for his office. It is like subjugating your office to a junior public officer if you have to be taking N20 million from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA). We cannot be blind to this important aspect of monthly grant to a VP by the former security adviser. Some former presidential aides are also under investigation.”
A source close to the former Vice President confirmed the search of the office in Abuja’s Central Business District (CBD).
“The EFCC operatives invaded the Manyatha Company of the former Vice President on Saturday, broke the doors. The operatives did not come with any warrant and when they left, there was no record of inventories. What happened was that the ex-VP moved some documents in Ghana-Must-Go bags from his house to the office in the Central Business District. I think they got false alarm that dollars were stuffed in the bags and decided to raid the office on the sixth floor. We share the same office complex with the British Visa Section. Do you know that since Saturday, the policemen brought by the EFCC are still in the office? The EFCC asked the company to repair its doors before the police could leave the place.”
On the alleged N20 million collected monthly from ONSA, the source added:
“It is a statutory subvention for the Office of the Vice President. When ex-President Goodluck Jonathan was VP, he was getting it. The same subvention was given to ex-VP Atiku Abubakar. Ex-VP Sambo is ready to defend the subvention when necessary. He did not steal public funds and he did not get campaign funds from ONSA.”

*Says no to disregard to the party constitution
The youth group affiliated to the office of PDP National Youth Leader dissociated self from Ahmed Gulak self declaration. The decision was unanimously reached after brief meeting held in the party’s secretariat, Wadata plaza, Abuja.
The group described the self declaration of Gulak as shameful, disrespect to the party’s constituted authorities and outright demonstration of impunity and over ambitiousness.
While affirming their support for the presence NWC, the youths asked Gulak to support the Party mechanism to ensure free and credible convention come March 2016.
Group express disappointment in the action of the Ahmed Gulak which is not enjoying the backing of the North East leadership of the party.
“In as much as we respect him as a senior citizen and leader in our party, we wont patronize any act of impunity and disregard to the party constitution. We hereby advise him to denounce his declaration and work with the present leadership who are putting all modalities to replace all National Officials whose tenure will soon expire. And the right place for such changes should be the PDP National Convection. We are hopeful that the new leadership will reposition the Party ahead of 2019 general election when Nigerians will give power back to the PDP and free us from this APC inept government who has turn its Promise of Change slogan to Change of Promise.
“Finally, we stand by our party and its aspiration and resist any form of imposition whereby an individual will hold a press conference and declare himself a Party Chairman. The implication of this action is that anybody else from the Northeast can as well declared himself the Party Chairman which will definitely set in a very bad precedent. This should be discouraged and condemned in totality.”

A 27 year old lady died from Lassa fever in Lagos on Tuesday January 26th. ‎Confirming her death, the Lagos state Commissioner for Health, Jide Idris, said the lady died of the disease at the Ijede General Hospital. She is said to have traveled to Lagos from Edo state on January 2nd and had been down with a fever.
“The lady had received care in one private hospital and three churches before she was referred to Ijede General Hospital with fever. She died few hours of admission. We confirmed that she died of Lassa fever on Tuesday. The remains of the patient have been kept in the morgue in leak proof body bag. She is to be buried after due consultation with her family. So far, Lagos State has recorded 20 suspected cases of Lassa fever since the outbreak of the disease. As of now, 14 suspected cases tested negative, while four cases were confirmed positive of Lassa fever. The results of two suspected cases are pending. The ministry has listed 537 contacts of the confirmed cases and 534 of the contacts are currently being monitored.”‎he said
This will be the second Lassa fever death in Lagos. A 51 year old man who also traveled to Lagos from Edo state died of the disease last week
