We have all been in that position where our laptop battery starts to malfunction; that moment when a 10-hour battery life device depreciates to serving you for one hour or less.
Insight from the research and development unit of Yudala shows that while laptop batteries often depreciate with constant use over time, misuse or wrong usage often causes this within a short period of time and at a time when you should still be deriving optimum utility from the battery.
Laptop batteries are usually made from lithium-ion: a lightweight, high-power battery often used in computers and mobile phones. Lithium-ion batteries come in various shapes, although a flat rectangle is the most common in smartphones.
It is lighter than the nickel cadmium battery and the nickel metal-hydride battery, thus accounting for its lightweight nature. Lithium-ion batteries work by the movement of lithium ions through a membrane and are clearly different from lithium batteries. Whereas lithium batteries contain lithium metal and are not rechargeable, lithium-ion batteries do not contain lithium metal and are rechargeable.
However, lithium-ion batteries do not last forever. Each lithium-ion battery will have an average of 600 charge cycles and will work optimally for about four to five years without a drastic depreciation on battery life. Hence, your laptop battery should serve you well for at least three to four years depending on how frequently you use the device and recharge the battery.
Research shows that frequent travellers only get a couple of years out of their laptop battery because they tend to charge intermittently and keep their laptop unplugged when on the move which kills the battery faster.
To help you get maximum life out of your laptop battery, the following findings from Yudala’s research will go a long way in helping you save the cost of investing in a new battery at short intervals:
Avoid putting your laptop on soft surface
It is easy to place your laptop on your thighs or bed while working at home or during your rest time. Many of us are guilty of this. However, if you need your battery to last long or have a stronger lifespan, it is advisable to place the device on hard surfaces such as tables and desks in order to avoid over-heating.
Research has shown that heat is one of the biggest obstacles to your battery’s longevity because your laptop fan can’t circulate air properly when your laptop is placed on a soft surface.
Be careful how you store your laptop battery
This cannot be over-emphasised. It is advisable to store your laptop in a cool place with less heat. This tip is directed especially at people who keep their laptops in their cars where it can get really hot when it’s sunny. Laptop batteries do not work well with heat and may stop working if exposed to excessive humidity. Research shows that if a stored battery is not charged, it starts to lose it energy and may get damaged. Also, for travellers who leave their laptops behind, it is advisable to store your battery with a 40 to 60 per cent charge instead of a full charge. Study shows that fully charged batteries depreciate faster than half-charged batteries.
Do not leave your laptop dead before plugging it in
There is said to be a problem called battery memory, which cause batteries to ‘forget’ their full charge capacity and start charging at lower levels – charging to 100 per cent and discharging to zero per cent. Current research indicates that this problem doesn’t exist anymore and we have the modern lithium-ion battery to thank for that. It is important to point out that the problem here is not over-charging your laptop, which makes us believe that letting your battery charge more than 100 percent will make the battery wear out faster.
A research study by Battery University shows that modern devices are designed to stop charging at 100 per cent; hence, keeping them plugged in doesn’t impact the battery’s lifespan. However, a lot of us wait until our laptop dies before we plug it in, which isn’t good for our battery. You should avoid letting your battery drain and discharge below 20 per cent, else, it will reduce the charging capacity of your battery.
Show your laptop some love
This starts with your battery. Your battery is the powerhouse of your laptop. Abandoning your laptop battery and just letting it do its job without paying much attention to it won’t cut it. Make sure to take care of the battery contact points; the battery contact connects the battery to the laptop. If the contact point gets dirty or damaged, it may reduce or disrupt the flow of power to the laptop. If you have a removable battery, you can carefully wipe your battery with a soft cloth to get rid of dust. However, you have nothing to worry about if your laptop battery is sealed.
Update your laptop
As underrated as this may sound, an outdated hardware may reduce the performance of your laptop, thereby affecting the laptop battery. The cells in laptop batteries degrade over time, and it is totally normal for old laptop batteries to hold charge for less than an hour. Current laptops can achieve up to 10 hours of standard usage because of the software that comes with the perk of a new laptop. Henceforth, upgrading your laptop hardware will significantly improve your laptop battery life.

The management of TVC Communications has said that the Federal Government never shut down the radio arm of the company – Radio Continental – for any breach of the broadcasting law or any other reason.
It stated this on Sunday, contrary to reports in the media (not The PUNCH) that there was a clampdown on the station, which was politically motivated.
The company’s management rather said, “Radio Continental switched seamlessly last night (Saturday night) at 10pm to become 102.3 Max fm, which is aimed at a 15-34 year old audience and promises to play non-stop hit music for the young people of Lagos.

Nigeria international Henry Onyekuru is generating transfer interest from top European clubs Juventus and Atletico Madrid, as per reports.

The Daily Mail is reporting that there is a possibility that Everton will sell the striker without him playing an official game for the club he joined in the summer transfer window, although it appears he is not eligible to be granted a work permit in England.

Onyekuru may be searching for his first goal in a European club competition after three games, but has been in the headlines for his performance against PSG on Wednesday and his brilliant start to his career at Anderlecht.

It cost Everton seven million pounds to acquire the Nigerian from Eupen and any club interested in signing him when the window opens will have to pay in the region of £15million (approximately N7.1 billion) for his services.

Atletico Madrid are scouring the market for a long-term replacement for Fernando Torres and Onyekuru is on their agenda.

The 20-year-old has more than four years left on his contract with Everton.

We know that we don’t spend much time with You throughout the day because the duties of life always seem to get in the way. It’s weird because we make time for everything that has nothing to do with You and we don’t even complain about it.

We can stand in a club for hours but it seems like when we get to church, we’re ready to go after praise and worship is over. The preacher is speaking Your words yet our minds are focused on what to do after service. Its so disrespectful how we carry on from day to day without telling You “Thank You”. We don’t make the time to talk to You because our thoughts are so polluted with guilt and stifled by shame.

Forgive us!

Not only do we ask for forgiveness, help us to do better with our relationship with You. Make us put the same efforts that we put into our personal relationships, into our spiritual walk with You. We can’t do it without You. Most of us want to be closer to You, but we’re afraid of change. We’re afraid that walking with You is going to required too much. We’re not worthy God, we don’t even have enough sense to comprehend that You love us even when we don’t love ourselves. Bless us because You are God and not always based on our behaviors.

Free our dear country from the shackles of backwardness in which corruption and all other vices have tied us with. Teach our fellow citizens to fervently pray for our leaders, and not rain invectives on them like we often find solace in doing.

Show us the way; surround us with people who truly love You, not those who say what a TV preacher told them to say. Help us to know You for ourselves and not how people feel we should know You. The whole country, particularly the citizens of Imo State, woke up last Saturday to discover that the state governor, Rochas Okorocha, had unveiled a 25-metre statue of the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, in Owerri, the state capital.
Zuma, perhaps, must have been caught in bewilderment for the gesture as he was only in the South-East state to forge a partnership between his foundation and that of his host.
However, within just two days of his visit, the 75-year-old South African President did not only get for himself a N520m bronze statue by the governor, a street in the state capital was also named after him.
As if those were not enough, the South African President also bagged the chieftaincy title of “Ochiagha Imo” and also received from the governor the Imo Merit Award, the highest award the state gives to distinguished individuals.
Stating the reason for his action, Okorocha had said of how highly he admired Zuma.
He had said of the South African President while unveiling the statue, “We have decided to honour you for your love for education; though you were deprived in your early days in life, you are working to make sure that every poor child goes to school.
“Your love for education, to us, is the connection between you and the government and people of Imo State.”
Apparently surprised, Zuma had also spoken of how delighted he was leaving Imo State and Nigeria as a hero.
“I walked in here‚ as I said‚ as an ordinary freedom fighter. I’m leaving Nigeria‚ through Imo State‚ as a hero. What a decoration!” he had said.
Okorocha’s statue of Zuma would be the second one the South African President would be getting within just few days.
On October 6, 2017, the North West Government in South Africa had unveiled a monument of the President at Groot Marico, the spot where he and 51 others were arrested by the apartheid police in 1963.
However, most residents of the town had condemned the erection of the statue, stating that what they needed were potable water and good roads.
Likewise, since the unveiling of his statue by Okorocha, both Nigerians and South Africans — who don’t always seem to agree, especially as hundreds of the former have been murdered as a result of xenophobic attacks in South Africa — have been criticising the governor’s action.
While Nigerians are wondering why Okorocha would spend a “whopping” N520m on a statue when the state has more pressing socio-economic needs to address, South Africans are also wondering why the governor would honour a president that is facing corruption charges in the country.
Zuma was honoured by Okorocha just about 24 hours after the South African Supreme Court of Appeal ruled that he should face corruption charges in his country.
The South African Supreme Court had on Friday upheld a High Court ruling to reinstate nearly 800 corruption charges relating to an arms deal filed against Zuma before he became president.
Apart from the corruption charges, South Africa’s top court had also ruled in 2016 that Zuma failed to preserve the country’s constitution by using $16m (N5.8bn) state funds to renovate his Nkandla home.
So when the South African Presidency took to Twitter last Sunday and wrote, “A bronze statue of President Zuma [has been] unveiled and a road named after him as part of the honour by Imo State in Nigeria,” it wasn’t long before the citizens started unleashing attacks on the President.
A South African Twitter user with the handle, @Moss2718, asked, “How does Nigeria honour someone facing 783 charges? Someone whose relationship with the Guptas has ruined our resources? Are the Guptas involved?” The Guptas are an Indian-born South African business family accused of wielding enormous political influence in South Africa, with President Zuma alleged of having illicit dealings with them.
A Nigerian Twitter user with the handle, @NwokediND, asked Okorocha why he built a statue for Zuma while he had yet to pay workers and pensioners in the state.
“You have been unable to pay pensioners and others. What is the benefit of this wasteful gesture to Imo State?” he asked.
Besides the online commenters, human rights activists and political analysts who spoke to our correspondent had also condemned Okorocha for erecting a N520m effigy of the South African President, wondering how a state owing workers’ salaries and with several pressing socio-economic needs would “squander” N520m on a Zuma statue.
Some of the analysts and social commentators also opined that Zuma was unqualified of the honours bestowed on him by Okorocha, especially as the South African President is facing corruption charges in his country.
The analysts also asked Okorocha the specific “heroic” acts Zuma had done for the state or for Nigeria to have deserved the awards.
The President, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Malachy Ugwummadu, criticised the governor’s action, suggesting that it was done to deepen his business interest with the South African President.
Ugwummadu said on no account should Okorocha have honoured Zuma due to allegations of corruption he was facing in his country.
If eventually convicted of corruption, the human rights activist said it would be unfortunate that such a person had been celebrated and showcased as a role model for Nigerian youths by the Imo State governor.
He said, “These are convoluted moments, when political actors need to show retrospection. It is sad when a political actor who has not been able to pay workers’ salaries expends huge sum of money on things that will enhance his private business interests. This situation calls for some reflection.
“No doubt, Zuma was a force in the fight against the apartheid, but this is the same man who has been mired in questionable acts in his country. For such a person, the statue is insensitive to him because it does not represent his personality. Nobody is saying Zuma is guilty for now, but what if he is eventually convicted of corruption charges in his country?
“If he’s convicted, will Okorocha now remove the South African President’s statue or would the governor keep it as a reminder that the youth should aspire to be like him?
“It is wrong for state actors like Okorocha to erect and unveil a statue for Zuma because of their business interests. What happened between the two was a deepening of their private business relationship. It wasn’t a state function. If it were, President Muhammadu Buhari would have been there or sent a representative.”
Ugwummadu cautioned political leaders, especially Okorocha, against embarking on projects that had no impact on the citizens’ lives.
He said, “Erecting statues has no meaning to the lives of the citizens in Imo State. And now, Okorocha should know that he will be measured based on his actions today.
“For me, he could have erected statues of great Igbo leaders like Nnamdi Azikiwe and nobody would have been able to fault him. But Zuma? No. These are really convoluted times.”
Also speaking to Saturday PUNCH, lawyer and public affairs analyst, Liborous Oshoma, said it was unfortunate that Okorocha chose to honour Zuma when the latter was facing corruption allegations in his country.
He said the governor shouldn’t have gone to the extent of erecting a statue of Zuma when he had yet to do same for great Nigerian heroes who made impact in Nigeria before their death.
He said, “It is quite unfortunate that the leaders who usually say the youth of today don’t have high moral values don’t themselves exhibit such high moral values. Or what can we say when bread and butter politicians celebrate mediocrity? Zuma is currently facing corruption charges in his country and is experiencing low vote of confidence by the South African electorate.
“In fact, many Nigerians have been commending the South African court system for prosecuting a sitting president in their country. Nigerians are asking that their country should take a cue from the South African style of governance.
“Why then would a governor in Nigeria celebrate a president who has not yet deserved such honour in his own country? Why is he [Okorocha] meddling governance with his personal business interest? This is the same governor who thinks he is a fan of President Buhari’s anti-corruption war.
“If he wanted to celebrate icons, he could have chosen people like Nelson Mandela, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sam Mbakwe, Michael Okpara and so on. If he had erected a statue of any of these people, I’m sure no one would have raised an eyebrow.”
Saying that Okorocha had always been mired in controversies, Oshoma said it was unfortunate that the governor was promoting mediocrity in governance.
He said, “Okorocha has always been engulfed in controversies. If he’s not boasting that his party has the best governors in Nigeria, he is naming buildings after his children (a building in the Imo State Government House is named Uloma Nwosu House after the governor’s daughter). It is quite shameful, especially for someone who should know what real governance is all about.
“What has he done for Imo State? Nothing much. Here is a state where the youth are migrating to Port Harcourt and Lagos because of the hardship there. Here is a state where workers are owed salaries. It’s just unfortunate that the citizens of the state are not demonstrating. I learnt the governor will unveil other statues, including one of himself. This is mediocrity in governance and it’s unfortunate!”
An Abuja-based policy analyst, Mrs. Esther Nwankwo, said Okorocha would have been absolved of criticisms if he had erected Zuma’s statue in his compound.
She said, “Remember that on Tuesday, President Buhari blasted governors by asking them how they could sleep soundly when they owed workers’ salaries. I’m sure Buhari would be asking in his mind, ‘How can you, Okorocha, erect Zuma’s statue when your workers are hungry?’
“In my opinion, nobody would have complained if the governor had erected the statue in his compound. I’m okay with such, and that’s even if he didn’t do it with state funds. In a state where salaries are not paid, pensions are being owed, no infrastructure, a statue costing N520m was erected? I won’t stop being amazed by our political leaders’ actions. It’s like some of them don’t think deeply or listen to counsel before acting.
“Zuma went to Imo State and Okorocha couldn’t even table before him how Nigerians, mostly Igbo, are being killed in South Africa. Even if it was a personal business visit, nothing stopped the governor from addressing issues of diplomatic relationship. Well, it’s sad we’ve not always been lucky with the kind of leaders we have in this part of the world.”
Meanwhile, despite the barrage of criticisms of his action, Okorocha has said he owed no one any apology for erecting Zuma’s statue in Owerri.
In a politically-toned statement on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, the governor defended his action, saying it was done to attract foreign investors to Imo State.
The statement had read, “We owe no one apology. Rochas made a promise to open the doors of Imo to the rest of the world for good and he is doing that and we cannot be deterred by the enemies of our people.
“If it was in the days of the Peoples Democratic Party, schools and markets would have been shut down; and roads closed because President Zuma was coming. But none of such things was done because Rochas and his government have a human face.
“The PDP, for the 12 years they held sway, never attracted any meaningful visitor to the state except PDP National Executive Council members, who were coming to loot the state.”
Reacting to the governor’s defence , Nwankwo said, “I read the statement and I asked myself, is this what the governor could explain? The defence sounded too mediocre. Is it by erecting statues that you attract investors to a state? Very dumb defence!
“Well, just in case my governor reads this, it is not by erecting statues that you attract investors. It is by building good roads, ensuring stable electricity supply, having appealing business regulations and installing good security, among others, that you can attract investors.”

The Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, Mr. Aliyu Aziz, has advised Nigerians and other residents in the country, to get their National Identification Numbers.
Aziz said in a statement on Friday in Lagos that Nigerians should regard the NIN as a most crucial feature of their lives since it was the unique identifier for all in the country.
He said that Nigerians should regard the NIN the same way Social Security Number was regarded in the United States, the National Insurance Number in the United Kingdom or AADHAR number in India.
According to him, what is common in all the countries mentioned is just the number.
“Therefore, you need a unique NIN from cradle to grave,” he said.
The NIMC boss advised Nigerians and residents in the country to present themselves to be enrolled for NIN to avoid any rush.
He said that rush might arise with the enforcement of the mandatory use of NIN for transactions and access to services, as stipulated in Section 27 of the NIMC Act of 2007.
“By law and along the entire lifecycle of individuals in Nigeria, you need to present your NIN, whenever you need to be identified for services such as passport issuance.
“You will need to present NIN during banking services, land transactions, insurance services, pension, health insurance, payment of taxes, voter’s registration, consumer credits and all government services.
‘In all these, there is nothing temporary about the NIN slip issued after registration, the NIN is your identity and is considered more important than the card.
“NIMC’s current focus is on the number – NIN, and not the card.
“We are already in a digital economy driven by unique index numbers and not by physical tokens such as a card.
“The law specifies that we should issue general multipurpose smart cards as the exercise continues,” he said.
Aziz said the commission was mindful of the demands of the public for the physical cards and efforts were being made to meet them.
The NIMC director general said however that provision of the physical cards had huge financial implication for the nation.
According to him, the number of people with their NINs is 23.3 million, an increase from seven million in November 2015, when he took over the mantle of leadership in NIMC.
“So, please enrol for the NIN, encourage everyone you know to do same, including children and legal residents.
“This is necessary as all other government agencies will follow soon and make their respective announcements on the mandatory use of the NIN,’’ he said.

The Federal Government has said its external borrowing plan, for which it is seeking the approval of the National Assembly, will take Nigeria between five years and 30 years to repay.
The government also insisted it would have to borrow more to complete a number of ongoing infrastructural projects.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, who was represented by the Director-General, Debt Management Office, Patience Oniha, at a defence session organised by the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts in Abuja on Thursday, gave the indication and urged Nigerians to focus on the long-term benefits of the loans.
President Muhammadu Buhari had written to both chambers of the National Assembly, seeking approval for $5.5bn external loans to finance the 2017 Appropriation Act.
In the letter dated October 4, 2017, Buhari referred the Senate to the 2017 budget, with a deficit of N2.356tn and provision for new borrowing of N2.321tn.
He said the Act also provided for domestic borrowing of N1.254tn and external borrowing of N1.067tn (about $3.5bn).
At the session on Thursday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Senator Shehu Sani, asked Oniha to provide details of the proposed loans, including the rate and tenure.
In her response, Oniha said, “In terms of tenor, from the figures that distinguished senators have reeled out, we have them in various tenors. What you do is at the time you get to the market and you want to price, you will be more certain about the price. It could be anywhere from five to 30 years.
“On borrowing, when the current generation may not be around at that time (payment completion), the truth is that if we are borrowing in the long term, we are using it to finance capital projects, which are also long-term (projects) and the benefits of those projects are also long-term (benefits).
“I believe that some of the roads and even institutions like some universities that we see today were built before some of us were born. We should look at it this way; that the benefits are also long-term (benefits).”
She also responded to the question on whether the development of the first generation infrastructure in the country was funded with loans, saying, “I can remember that the Federal Government issued development loan stocks under the first plan and some are actually yet to mature. Those development loan stocks were what the Federal Government used in the 60s and maybe early 70s. I know that some of them had 20 to 22 years’ maturity. At the time, they appeared to be very long. This is not the first time that the government is borrowing on a long-term basis.”
The DMO boss further explained that out of Nigeria’s debt current stock of N19tn, 77 per cent was from the domestic market through the various products issued, including Treasury bills, the Federal Government of Nigeria Bonds, the Federal Government Savings Bonds and the recent Sukuk.
“The implication of having that large amount in domestic debt is high debt service because the costs of – meaning interest rates – are high. If the government is so visible and prominent in the local market, it means that we have taken some of the money that should go to the private sector.
“Banks should be able to have large amounts of money to extend to the real sector. If we are not too prominent in the domestic market, there should be more room for banks and other financial institutions to lend to the private sector and, thereby, contributing to economic growth.”
In a statement made available in Abuja on Thursday, the DMO said $2.5bn of the proposed external borrowing would be used to finance some projects while $3bn would be used to refinance some domestic debts.
The DMO said, “The first component of $2.5bn represents new external borrowing provided for in the 2017 Appropriation Act to part finance the deficit in that budget.
“It will be recalled that the 2017 Appropriation Act provided for new external borrowing of N1.067tn or $3.5bn at an exchange rate of USD/N305.
“Out of this amount, $300m has been raised through a Diaspora Bond that was issued in June leaving a balance of $3.2bn out of which $2.5bn is to be sourced through a Eurobond issuance.
“The $2.5bn proposed Eurobond will be used to finance critical road and rail projects included in the 2017 Appropriation Act.
In his presentation, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said Nigeria would borrow more to finance ongoing rail projects.
According to him, the country needs $36bn to complete the projects.
He said, “What is in this (2017) budget that we are asking for now is Kano-Kaduna and Port Harcourt-Calabar, but the bank that is lending us money will prefer if we ask for Ibadan-Kano so that we can finish the whole stretch from Lagos to Kano.”
When asked which particular rail projects the loan would be used to finance, Amaechi said, “It depends on what they do with the virement; it will affect a lot of the funding. This money we are asking for will fund the completion of the Itakpe-Warri line; that will be ready in June next year. It will also fund the Kano-Kaduna and Port-Harcourt-Calabar (rail lines).”
He added, “It means that we will still come back to ask for more funding for the Ibadan-Kaduna rail, even if we got this (the current request).

Notice is hereby given to all candidates who chose Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso as their first choice institution in the 2017/2018 Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that a Post-UTME Computer Based Test (CBT) Screening Exercise will be conducted between Thursday 26 and Friday 27 October, 2017 at 10:00am. Candidates must have a score of not less than 180 to be qualified for the screening exercise.

2. METHOD OF APPLICATION
Applicants are to proceed to the admissions website of the University – www.admissions.lautech.edu.ng to make payment of a fee of Two thousand, two hundred Naira (N2,200) only for the purpose of online registration for the screening exercise as well as University portal access fee charge of Five thousand, five hundred Naira (N5,500) only using Inter-switch Enabled Debit Cards (ATM).

Applicants are expected to carefully complete and submit the online application form. Incomplete application form will not be treated. In completing the online application form, applicants are expected to upload a digital copy of their scanned passport photograph which must be in JPEG (i.e. jpg) and must not be more than 20kb. The photograph must be in white background showing ears, with no cap and glasses. On submission of the application form, applicants are to print out an acknowledgement page which assigns them the venue of the screening exercise.

3. OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION
The application form will be available online for completion and submission from Monday, 23rd October to Thursday, 26th October, 2017.

Please note that:
a) Late completion/submission of forms will not be entertained.
b) Any candidate with blurred picture on the acknowledgement page will not be admitted forcthe screening exercise as the photograph will be used as means of identification.
c) Any candidate who fails to present himself/herself for the Computer Based Test (CBT) as scheduled automatically forfeits being considered for admission.

Applicants are advised to come for the exercise with their acknowledgement page colour print-out from the online registration. The use of cell phones (GSM, CDMA, PDA) and other electronic devices is NOT ALLOWED during the test.

The Federal Government on Thursday arraigned before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama, Abuja, the senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Isah Misau, for allegedly making injurious falsehood statement against the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris.
He pleaded not guilty to all the five counts when read to him on Thursday.
The trial judge, Justice Ishaq Bello, who is the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court granted him bail in the sum of N5m with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The judge fixed November 28 and 29 for trial.

The Nigerian trio of Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa will welcome a new boss at the helm of Leicester City, following the sacking of Craig Shakespeare on Tuesday.

The news followed the club's 1-1 draw to West Brom at the King Power Stadium, with the Foxes lingering in the relegation zone following a slow start to the campaign.

Both Ndidi and Iheanacho started the draw against the Baggies, with the latter having struggled since his big money switch from Manchester City.

The 21-year-old's struggles have resulted in constant trolling by especially West Ham United fans, who stated their apparent delight in the Hammers passing on signing the forward.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abukabar Malami SAN has disclosed that “President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all relevant agencies to compile documents on names of all looters with a view to promptly enforcing the judgment of a Federal High Court in Lagos ordering the government to release to Nigerians information about the names of high ranking public officials from whom public funds were recovered.”
The court also ordered the government to tell Nigerians the circumstances under which funds were recovered, as well as the exact amount of funds recovered from each public official. Mr Malami made the disclosure yesterday during a meeting at his office in Abuja with a delegation from Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). This development was disclosed today in a statement by SERAP executive director Adetokunbo Mumuni.
Mumuni said, “We had a very productive meeting with Mr Malami, discussing among other critical issues the need for the government to obey the judgment delivered in July by Hon Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari following a Freedom of Information suit number: FHC/CS/964/2016 brought by SERAP.” According to Mumuni, “Mr Malami informed us that President Buhari has directed the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other relevant agencies involved in the recovery of looted funds to promptly put the documents together with a view to fully and promptly enforcing the judgment by Justice Shagari.” “We appreciate the opportunity to meet with the Attorney General of the Federation and look forward to working with him as the government strives to enforce this very important judgment. We hope that the implementation of the judgment will now happen sooner rather than later. We believe that effectively implementing the judgment will be a victory for the rule of law, show the way forward in the fight against corruption and impunity of perpetrators in the country, as well as demonstrate Buhari’s oft-repeated commitment to tackling the problem of grand corruption,” Mumuni added. It would be recalled that the SERAP suit followed disclosure last year by the Federal Government of funds recovered from some high-ranking public officials and private individuals. In her judgment delivered on 5th July 2017 Justice Shagari agreed with SERAP that “the Federal Government has legally binding obligations to tell Nigerians the names of all suspected looters of the public treasury past and present.” Joined as Defendants in the suit are the Minister of Information Alhaji Lai Muhammed and the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture. The same day that the judgment was delivered Mr Malami told reporters in Abuja that government was in agreement with the ruling and would carry out the order as long as it does not amount to sub judice. Justice Shagari also granted the following reliefs: A DECLARATION that by virtue of the provisions of Section 4 (a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2011, the Defendants are under a binding legal obligation to provide the Plaintiff with up to date information relating to the following: To widely disseminate including on a dedicated website information about the names of high ranking public officials from whom public funds were recovered since May 2015 The circumstances under which stolen public funds were returned It would be recalled that the Ministry of Information last year published details of the recoveries, which showed that the Nigerian government successfully retrieved total cash amount N78,325,354,631.82, $185,119,584.61, £3,508,355.46 and €11, 250 between May 29, 2015 and May 25, 2016. Also released were recoveries under interim forfeiture, which were a combination of cash and assets, during the same period: N126,563,481,095.43, $9,090,243,920.15, £2,484,447.55 and €303,399.17. Anticipated repatriation from foreign countries totalled: $321,316,726.1, £6,900,000 and €11,826.11. The ministry also announced that 239 non-cash recoveries were made during the one-year period. The non-cash recoveries are – farmlands, plots of land, uncompleted buildings, completed buildings, vehicles and maritime vessels. Subsequently, SERAP issued an FOI request and gave the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Muhammed 14 days to disclose the names of all suspected looters. The request reads in part: “While we believe that suspects generally are entitled to be presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction, SERAP opposes blanket non-disclosure of names of high-ranking public officials from whom some of the funds were recovered.” “SERAP insists that the public interest to know is greater than any other legitimate interest that the government might wish to protect. The Nigerian government has an obligation to balance whether the risk of harm to the legitimate aim (that is secrecy of ongoing corruption investigation and presumption of innocence) from disclosure of the names of public officials is greater than the public interest in accessing the information.” “SERAP believes that the recoveries, specifically from high-ranking public officials (and not private individuals), are matters of public interest. Publishing the names of those public officials will provide insights relevant to the public debate on the ongoing efforts to prevent and combat a culture of grand corruption in the country.” “The gravity of the crime of grand corruption, the devastating effects on the socially and economically vulnerable sectors of the population, and the fact that recovery of huge funds from high-ranking public officials entrusted with the public treasury raise a prima-facie case and therefore amount to exceptional circumstances that justify naming those high-ranking officials in the public interest.” “Publishing the names of public officials involved could go a long way in preventing senior public officials from turning the public treasury into a private cashbox. The public interest in publishing the names of the high-ranking government officials from whom funds were received outweighs any considerations to withhold the information, as there would be no prejudice against those whose names are published as long as the information is appropriately framed and truthful.” “While the government in some limited cases can legitimately place restrictions on the public’s right to access certain information, attempts of the Nigerian authorities to justify the total closure of information related to the names of public officials from whom funds were recovered on the basis of “ongoing criminal investigation” and “presumption of innocence goes far beyond the limitations allowed under international law, and would promote secret recoveries.” “The information being requested is not related to detailed investigatory activities of anticorruption agencies regarding the recoveries so far made. Similarly, the mere fact that the information being requested is related to ongoing investigation does not necessarily mean that the information could not be disclosed. In addition, governmental agency has the obligation to prove that the disclosure of the names of public officials would disrupt, impede, or otherwise harm the ongoing or pending investigations or presumption of innocence.”
