The problem with our front three if we were to play fluid 4-3-3 as you suggested is that Lukaka doesn't have the quality of an attacking midfielder.
At Everton, there were games (especially vs top sides) where Lukaku was deployed on the RW and his performances were relatively impressive

elampiro:
Another issue is the inability of Martial to operate comfortably in the middle (usually where a CAM) could be useful.
But this same Martial delivered for us as a C.F. during LVG's tenure nah...

Alexis also played as a false 9 for arsenal on a few occasions

A roving triumvirate of Lukaku, Martial and Sanchez should work jare.

But as things are, I would rather we try a 442 diamond 1st

it's insane to question a striker who scored 28 goals in all comps last season while playing for a manager who has lost his way.

what has the rest of the team done?
I think the crux of the matter here is that there are certain glaring deficiencies in Lukaku's game wey him suppose don improve on but alas, he hasn't.

Stats don't neccesarily tell the whole Story - Edison Cavani has consistently posted impressive numbers for Club(s) and country, despite his signatory brainfarts and shocking misses.

The truth is that the present Lukaku isn't different from that unpolished teenager with dada for Westbrom that year.

P.S - I am not comparing him to that effeminate douchebag you guys have on parade as #9...

Seem like the next big name manager out of work, suddenly,is a prime candidate to fix United.
If we're going to sack Jose we must never do things this way again.
The only difference is that Zidane (unlike jose), wasn't kicked out at his former club due to incessant flirting with relegation.

Not saying Zidane is the messiah tho

Try to reason deep.

I told you guys that if we had our other senior regulars for the world cup players to rely on, we would still be winning.

The problem is that world cup players are relying on Pereira, Mata and Fred who were not regulars last season.

Look at the number of our senior players at the world cup semi finals, unlike Liverpool whose players were knockout early.

Manchester United had the highest number of players in world cup quarter final and semi final.

And if Martial resumed early.

The team will do better when players get fit. But these players are not world beaters.
I don't agree....

If utilized properly, our team is actually good enough to be a force to reckon with in Europe....

Every team can't be loaded like the Madrids, Barcelonas etc of this world na.

If we wan analyse am properly, i think our squad is actually better than some of the so called "feared teams" in Europe sef.. .

elampiro:
Money spent not an issue because City has been spending since about 10 years to get to where they are. Remember the likes if Robinho, Adebayo, Lescot, Dzeko, Baloteli, Miner, Zabeleta, Clinchy, Nasri, and dozens more who were used for experiment before they won their first EPL title.
This is actually a moot point because none of the aforementioned players is still at City, neither does any of them have any influence whatsoever on the success Pep is currently enjoying at the Etihad....

elampiro:
Ferguson's refusal to spend is what other coaches who came after him are suffering.
How can we still be blaming someone who left the club more than 5 years ago? shocked Did successive managers not spend heavily on players or what?

Leave Fergie outta this and let him recover from his surgery in peace biko.

Mourihno's net spend in just over 2 years at the club is a whopping £302m - the irony is that na him buy those 2 CBs wey you dey slander today so I really don't get your point.

Common - Are you saying that a team parading the likes of Pogba, Matic, Martial, Lukaku , Sanchez etc isn't good enough to mount a credible title challenge with good football?? How exactly are the likes of laporte, stones etc @ city even better than our CBs?

[s]Keita looking great for Pool. At least Klopp didn't embark on his foolishness to deploy Fabinho as a 6.

Widja has been decent with his positional play and awareness but Pool still need someone better in that role than Widja or Hendo. Fabinho should not even be an option. If I were Klopp, I would move in for Van de beek and Grealish in January. Van de beek for the no 6 role and Grealish to be Milner's understudy 'cos no one knows how Ox would fare after that horrible injury. No doubt Grealish would displace Milner eventually.

Shaqiri is also a great signing. From what I've seen in his Bayern days, he's more comfortable on the left, regardless of him being a left footed player and was heralded as Ribery's successor under Hynkes until Pep came in and destabilised him. I even feel he will look better than Salah cos he's got better close control and flairs but Salah is the better finisher although Shaqiri aint shabby in that aspect.

Now I feel like washing my teeth after saying all these. Or is it my hand I need to wash? Pool kwa? I love Klopp though[/s].

I have been saying it since yesterday that our defenders are one of the reason we tend to defend deep, Smalling and Jones or Lindelof can’t play a high line defence, our only CB that can play a high line I think is Bailey.
Mourihno isn't known to be a disciple of this particular method - he has always been a cautious tactician who would rather have his whole defensive unit sit deep and wait for counter attacking opportunities.

make una calm down with the excuses biko
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Adisaowalla:

Our defence wasn’t mean because DDG saved more shot than Ederson had to face, DDG was our saving grace last season, no wonder he won the Club Best Player Award.
In as much as I agree that we could do with some upgrades at the heart of the defence, the fact that we conceded the 2nd fewest number of goals nullifies Mourihno's obsession with the signature of Centrebacks like say na wetin cause our failure to win the league last season be that.

larride:
I am of the opinion that’s Mou doesn’t trust his defenders to hold their own that’s why he prefer defending deep instead of a high line.
Mourihno would not play a high-line in defence even if he has the likes of Maldini, Nesta, Stam and Thuram as CB options.

The last time he tried it, Madrid were humiliated 5-0 by a Barca side coached by.....??

your guess is as good as mine!

larride:
The reason we finish 19pts behind City was because of the silly point we lost against the lower teams and our inconsistency.
Exactly what we are saying - the acquisition of Maguire, Boateng, Chiellini, Ramos, Godin and all the CBs in the world wouldn't have any significant impact...if we are to tow the path of this valid argument in bold letters
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Adisaowalla: 9:44pm On Aug 09, 2018

Last season was a record breaking season, it’s an exception and not the norm.
Nobody is disputing the fact that defensive solidity is important for a credible title challenge.

However, the crux of the matter is that Mourihno seems to be more fixated on the team conceding less even when it's so obvious that our problems lie elsewhere...

larride:
Check over the last 10 season or beyond and you will find out that most teams that won the league went through a period where they had to go through dry goal scoring spell and grind out results winning 1 nil, even Fergie team go through those periods.

There was this Fergie title winning seasons that we won almost 10 games 1 nil.
if anything, we were more concerned with the goals drought during those games. Our fowards were even making the wrong headlines if i can remember vividly.

During the last 5 seasons we won the league (under Fergie), it was only the 2008/2009 season we could boast of the meanest defence in the league.

larride:
A solid defense is essential to sustain any title challenge. For all of Liverpool goals galore last season they finished 4th.
Despite how "mean" our defence was, how come we finished 19 points behind the champions?

larride:
For all of Pep goals in his first season, they finished 3rd, the question is what changed between Pep first season and the second season?

Therein lies your answer.
the difference was that pep was able to perfect and impose his possession / attacking football on opponents, in the process winning more games in total & setting records such as the most consecutive away victories (11) & overall away victories (16).

larride:
NB: All im trying to say is that defense is equally as important as attack.
Nope - this was what you said....

larride:
goals win match, defense win titles.

I think the point is more often than not the team with the least goals conceded wins the league.
