You are doing a great job but some Nigerians always look for loopholes and abuse the system. I introduced a woman that supposed to travel to give birth in Brazil to someone who resides in Brazil. Unfortunately, she couldn't get the visa cos she's had her previous children in USA and was really desperate not to have a Nigerian citizen. However, she had her baby in Nigeria. She called d lady I introduced to her upon seeing this post of yours that she wants her hubby to get a tourist visa to Brazil, d lady should help her arrange a baby dat her hubby can claim as d father in order for him to get the PR. This means their last born dat was born in Nigeria can automatically get the Brazilian citizenship. Imagine such corruption from a desperate Nigerian . She has posted on this thread and I'm not scared to mention her here.Cc Justwise, Ifyalways.
Thanks Shallypop. I really hope we don’t abuse the Brazilian system. Such acts is against the Brazilian law and may lead to imprisonments. Let’s please do what is right. Thanks

With the visa, you can stay for 3 months and then extend it in Brazil for another 3 months making 6 months. Cheers

Yes, I have heard the same about Floripa here and a lot of people seem to think Sao Paulo is a better option and consider Florianópolis expensive and close to the border.

I’ll check both places out and make a final decision.

Rio is not an option. I have heard they have a high crime rate and very rough. I am currently there and I don’t think I want to stay here. I heard there are more people in Sao Paulo and Floripa who speak English. Nobody does here and I have been using google translate.
My personal view... Baby and your safety and health is most important over anything. A healthy baby is a happy family. Everything depends on the baby at this time including you and the rest of the family obtaining Brazilian citizenship. Based on experience, i will advise you not to think too much of the money. GO TO FLORIPA... safe, clean less crowded health facilities, less busy Police Federal (immigration office), low risk of zika and faster processing of papers.

You are blessed because it is currently low season in Floripa and accommodation is 2 to 3 times cheaper. If your husband is at home, let him send you more money please. São Paulo is not as safe, clean as Floripa and it is very crowded meaning higher chances of diseases and crowded hospitals.

The money will pay for it self my dear. Trust me, the price difference between the 2 cities is not worth the risk. The current cold weather in Floripa is good against mosquitoes which transmit bad diseases. Get an air conditioned room. Avoid going out at night, get some mosquito repellents that are safe for pregnant women. Stay safe.

Cheers

Hello,

So I got into Brazil last night and I must say that the people are very friendly especially at the airport in São Paulo. You’ll always find someone who speaks English there and willing to help. I was worried about racism and so far I have experienced none despite the fact that 99 percent of people I have seen and related with are white.

In Rio however, it’s difficult to communicate with people except the hotel attendants. I had a difficult time trying to make purchases at the supermarkets. No one speaks English and the labels and instructions are all written in portugese. I’m not someone who likes to try new food so eating has been somewhat difficult for me also

I’m only in Rio for few days and still trying to decide between Sao Paulo and Florianópolis. Please I’ll need suggestions on safe and affordable areas in São Paulo.

There were Nigerians in the flight to São Paulo, about 4 of them speaking Yoruba. I spoke with one when we landed, asked him a few questions but missed him in the process of finding my next flight (which was difficult because the airport is so big)
Congratulations Ajokeomo

I am soo happy for you. You have made it. For accommodation and areas safe and affordable , check Airbnb. They are usually pictures.

I am finally glad to know that people can still make it to Brazil. This is proof that the doors to Brazil have not closed.

Stay safe and may the Lord guide and protect you. Thanks

Aww i can feel your pride from here. Pls how much must one have in the bank to go to Brazil. Im planning my next baby so i want to plan well. I already have a place to stay so just need to know all the steps and cost implication. Must i receive an invitation before i apply for the visa?
Hi KAYSEE8686,

It’s good to plan ahead. All the best.

No you do not necessarily need an invitation letter to apply for the visa. In fact i got my visa without an invitation but again, i have a lot of travel history to other countries as a tourist. Depending on your travel history, you may want to apply with an invitation letter to convince the consulate on your purpose of travel. Just note that the history and residency status of the person inviting you is very important in using an invitation letter.

For example, getting an invitation from a friend who got his or her residency through seeking asylum may raise red flags with the visa officer. They may think you are traveling to Brazil to do same. Please note that some asylum seekers have genuine reasons for seeking asylum so I’m not trying to generalize here.

Your main expenses ones in Brazil will be Accomodation and hospital fees. For birthing cost, it varies from absolutely free for public hospitals to between 2,000- 5,000 USD for a private hospital. Please note that public hospitals are financed by taxpayers money. Your choice of hospital is on you. I am just providing the info. I personally will not judge you on your choice of hospital and your baby will be Brazilian wether you gave birth in a public, private hospital or at home in Brazil.

For food, it all depends on you. A budget of 150-300 USD should be fine both 2 people provided you don’t go round looking for expensive Nigerian food lol.

Have about 300-700 USD for total costs of documents for baby passport and permanent residency application for both parents.

Hope this was helpful. Thanks

@adjo10 and @MrBrownJay1 pls I will really appreciate it if u guys can reply this
Hello opejole

Brazil is super big and diverse, so are the job opportunities and range of salaries. Your chances of landing a good job and good salary will depend on many factors: Residency Status, Portuguese language proficiency and level of education and work experience. With the first 2 being the most important but most important is the your residency status.

In my search for jobs here, I personally came to the realization that the top paid English speaking jobs first and foremost require nothing less than a PERMANENT RESIDENCY which you automatically qualify for by giving birth here.

Self employment is also big here. With a population of over 200 million, your creativity is your limit. Self employment opportunities can range from selling petty things on the street, teaching English to a multimillion company establishment and anything in between.

There are many residency status here with Permanent being the highest. Let me simply say, the higher your residency status, the better chance you have. This is because the Brazilian bureaucracy can be a nightmare and no company wants to go through a nightmare just to employ someone when there is a pool of over 200 million people that can fill in the position.

Hope this is helpful.

Do not mean to bother you but I would appreciate if u can guide me aright, lemme also benefit from u like others ve testified. Am in my early stage of pregnancy and wish to apply for brazil by Visa but with no travel experience. Do I stand a chances at all? How do I go about it? Would appreciate an adequate guidance on this
Hello Adedayolola. I am glad you find our contributions useful. I’m also glad you are taking steps to a better passport.

Do you stand a chance? Yes. You can secure a visa without previous experience but in the case of Brazil you will have a lot of convincing and home work to do. I will however not be able to tell you your chances of success or failure because every visa application is different and unique.

To improve your chances, I will kindly request that you start by reading the visa requirements on the official Brazilian embassy in your current country of residence. You should analyze the information provided there very carefully and work towards it. Information is power.

Make sure you have a good tie to your country especially that you don’t have a travel history. I may be more useful for information on procedures in Brazil after you have been granted the visa.

I wish you all the best.

And trust me, just like the way the Consulate told you they can’t do anything until it is approved by the Ministry of Labor so will Police Federal (immigration office) in Brazil will tell you they cannot do anything without the Consulate’s work visa sticker in your passport. It is a process that cannot be skipped.

But you will make it. Let your employer in Brazil keep pushing for the Ministry to approve. Cheers

Applying for a work visa outside Brazil is not child's play oooo.. I and my employer have followed all the steps on their website... And we have been on the online queue for more than a year now but no positive response from their Ministry of Labour in Brazil. This forced me to visit their Brazil in Nigeria and I was told that the consular can't help except they receive approval from MTE in Brazil....

What is on their website is just there for formality sake. What I also notice is that their brazilian system is extremely slow and they don't respond to mails.
You are right. Brazil’s bureaucracy can be a nightmare. It is super super slow. In general, i will say Brazil’s immigration is super though compared to many countries. That is why most people don’t even consider Brazil. The only thing that makes everything super super super super 100 times easy is to give birth in Brazil. You are treated like a VIP. We were given permanent residency and permission to work on the spot . It took us just 2 months to receive the physical permanent residency card.

Apart from given birth in Brazil, getting anything done in Brazil requires extreme patience. I pray your case is attended to soon so you can obtain your visa and enter Brazil soon.

Cheers

Do you have english comprehension issues?! As i clearly stated, you have to go to the border, leave brazil and re Enter immediately with your working visa application number, that your immigration lawyer would have provided you with....since the visa has already been approved, no need to go back home. Duh!!
I will not waste my time arguing with you. Stop deceiving people. I REPEAT, POLICE FEDERAL WILL NOT GIVE YOU A WORK PERMIT WITHOUT A VISA. You can say all you want but the truth is the truth. Stop deceiving people.

I have always encouraged people here to pursue their goals in Brazil. What you are saying is simply not true. In fact, PF at the border will not even stamp his passport that he left Brazil and cannot enter Argentina without an Argentinian visa. I am much aware of people crossing the border without stamp but his case his different. STOP DECEIVING PEOPLE.

You are here arguing with official websites. Have you ever heard of someone applying for a Brazilian visa in Brazil lol. Do you know the meaning of a visa? I rest my case. I will no more comment on this. Those who are wise will not follow your ungrounded advice.
TravelRe: Giving Birth In Brazil by Adjo10: 11:06pm On Jul 31, 2019
I add an official website so we are all clear. And i quote:

“tourist visa holder apply for a work visa without leaving the country?

No. An individual who enters Brazil as a tourist must exit the country with the same status. This means that tourists are not permitted to change a visa from one type to another during his/her stay in the country. A possible employer must initiate the application of a work permit in behalf of the applicant. Once approved, the applicant must leave Brazil and go back to his country of origin, where he/she can claim his/her work visa through the Brazilian Consulate.”

A Brazilian immigration lawyer can do all the process of obtaining a visa for you, within Brasil...the most important information are that of your employer. When approved you only need to waltz at any border to regulate your situation... And then start working. You Cannot work until you have left the country and come back with proper immigration status.

If in doubt, contact any immigration lawyer.....
Here is a list of different reliable websites confirming my point. There are many more websites confirming this but i will post only 3. Cheers

Again, the lawyer can do all the application for you while you are Living in Brasil (we did it for 3 of our staff). You only need to leave Brazil when the application has been approved, and thats why you need to go to the border, and come back right in (you dont have to go back to Africa)..... as soon as the lawyers give you the green light with number of application etc, then the border is good enough as the law only says you need to leave Brasil... Even if you are overstaying your tourist visa, you will be allowed back in, since the application has already been approved (after paying the fine)... Contact any immigration lawyer in Brasil and you will have this information confirmed.

Now maybe you can tell us if there is a different RULE for Nigerians but, so far as i know, the law is the same for everyone when applying for working visa
Thanks. I understand your point perfectly. The only thing is this. There are 3 processes involved in applying for a work permit. None of the processes can be skipped and there are all connected.

Step: 1. Have your employer or you apply for approval at the Ministry of labor in Brazil

Step 2. Apply for a Temporal Visa category XI (after the ministry of labor approves your work permit) at a Brazilian embassy in your home country or a country that you are resident of.

Step 3. Travel to Brazil under the visa category XI given you by the Brazilian embassy abroad. You then have up to 90 days to register with Police Federal in Brazil after landing in the country. During the registration process at the Police federal, your fingerprint will be taking and your physical Residency card will be process so you can come and collect it within 3 months. For the meantime, you will be given a temporal document called “protocol “ by the police federal to start work while you await your physical card. My point is: POLICE FEDERAL WILL NOT PROCESS YOU APPLICATION UNLESS YOU HAVE A VISA CATEGORY XI IN YOUR PASSPORT. And the only way to get this visa is to apply at a Brazilian embassy outside of Brazil.

Thanks

MrBrownJay1:
You can change from a tourist visa to a working visa.... But it's a bit tricky...
While on your tourist visa, you find a job, get the contract etc, then you apply via a lawyer, who will make all the paperwork for you. When they visa has been approved, the lawyer will give you all the working visa details.... AND THATS WHEN IT GET TRICKY, you need to go to the border, and you walk out of brazil on one side enter Argentina (for example) and walk right back in Brazil on the other side (stating the working visa # etc)... Then you will get the right stamp in your passport ( even if your tourist visa had expired) with which you will now be legally on a working visa in Brazil.

You can't do that at the airport because you have to legally leave Brazil, that's why you have to do it at the border.... Many people take buses to do these visa run. No big deal!
I repeat that this is not possible. When your work visa is approved by the Ministry of Labour, you must go back to Nigeria or another country you have legal residency in to apply for Visa category XI at the Brazilian embassy. This is according to the latest immigration law of 2017. Unfortunately, you cannot apply in Argentina because you are not a legal resident there. The Police Federal will only process your CRNM (Resident Card) with a XI visa.

Let me cut the story short. It is simply impossible.

Cheers

Changing someone's status: from tourist to work permit while in Brazil. Is this possible?
Not possible in Brazil or any country i know of including Nigeria. (Unless you seek Asylum) which I don’t know anything about. The only ways to obtain a work permit on a tourist visa is to give birth in Brazil or marry a Brazilian. Then you can change your status to a “ Permanent Resident” which includes a work permit in itself.

Florianópolis, Campo Grande, Belo Horizonte, Palmas. Sao Paulo and Rio are also safe but avoid them if you want to live the country early. The bureaucracy is insanely slow because they are populated. Any private hospital in the first 4 cities mentioned should be good. Stay in the state capitals and not other cities because all paperwork are done in the state capitals. Thanks

Adjo10:
Hi Graceee. I will break your question into 2 parts for a better explanation. There is 1. The validity of the Visa and 2. The amount of time you can stay in Brazil withing 1 year.

1. The validity of the Visa

To the best of my knowledge, the validity of a Brazilian visa can rage from 1 month to 10 years. Factors determining the validity of the visa ranges from reciprocal agreement between your country and Brazil for example USA and Brazil issue 10 year visas to each other citizens. For most countries, visa are issued for 1 year. You can also be issued a 1 month visa if the visa officer has reasons to suspect the motive of your travel. (Please note that even with all this, the visa officer has the power to modify the validity even with country agreements). This is not common.

2. The amount of time you can stay in Brazil withing 1 year

No matter the validity of your visa, you are not permitted to stay in Brazil for more than 180 days withing 1 year. (90 days and extension for another 90 days while in Brazil). Of course if your visa is valid for 1 months, you can only stay for a month. This case is very rear. The only exception to the 180 day rule is with EU citizen who enter Brazil visa free but cannot stay for more than 90 days in 1 year.

I hope your question was answered. Thanks

There are only 2 circumstances were a tourist visa can be changed to a CRNM (Resident permit card) without leaving Brazil. These are:

1. Giving birth in Brazil
2. Marrying a Brazilian citizen

Finally, to the best of my knowledge, as parents of a Brazilian child you get a permanent resident card (though valid for 9 years and can be renewed) and not temporal permit. After one year of living in Brazil on this permanent residency, you can apply for a Brazilian citizenship. You need to also learn and speak basic portugees to apply for the citizenship. Thanks

Apology accepted but let me correct you on the issue you mentioned about minor being 18 before getting naturalize, No... This is it, any minor under 7 - 10 depending in State their family is living will get a Brazilian passport after 1 year of getting RNE (permanent resident) but in their passport it will be stated that they are born in Lagos/Nigeria or any other countries they are from but after 18 years they will be fully claim as a brasileiro/a

I was the one that mentioned about the minor getting RNE and you replied me that the law has changed so I just let slide because many of my friends has benefits from this so I don't need to argue with you.

Brasil is a very big country and let me tell you this, the law they use in each state is different even though it's the same federal policia, the laws in Lapa SP is different from the one in Sao Jose do Campo SP while it's different from the one in Maringa PR as well that is Brazil for you.

Imagine in the same state and the requirements for marriage is different, one area will require a police report from alagbon and another area will not ask for that, just come with your valid protocol and passport and you will get married, that's it.

It's a lovely country for documents but I don't advice people to migrate here to hustle.
Thank you very much adigunomomama for accepting my apologies. Stay blessed. Your experience and expertise is valuable and much appreciated on this thread. Thanks

Children under the age of 10 of Brazilian Permanent Residents

There was once a post here about your exiting children status once you give birth in Brazil. I challenged the poster but I was completely wrong and would like to apologize.

It is true and the law has not changed. When you give birth in Brazil, all your existing children under the age of 10 get provisional Brazilian citizenship. They have to confirm at the age of 18 that they still want to be Brazilians. They can however have a Brazilian passport and travel just like any Brazilian. They only difference is that they just confirm at the age of 18 if they still want to be Brazilian or not.

I am very sorry for the initial confusion. Please forgive me.

Cheers
