Victor Ogunje in Ado Ekiti A member of the seventh House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, has said the people of Ekiti State must rise from their slumber and brace up to be able to dislodge the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to witness good governance after Governor Ayodele Fayose’s tenure . The governorship aspirant and All Progressives Congress(APC) chieftain, accused Fayose of debasing the state in all facets through beggarly policy called ‘stomach infrastructure’, saying the time for change and rebranding of the state shouldn’t extend beyond 2018. He spoke in Ode Ekiti in Gbonyin local government area of the State on Thursday while distributing rice to members of the party across the 177 wards and other Ekiti citizens in celebration of the Christmas and new year festivities. The former lawmaker, who distributed over 1,000 bags of rice, described the gesture as an attempt to palliate the sufferings of the populace during this time when Fayose’s government has not been paying salaries regularly. Faparusi said it would be a collective responsibility of all Ekiti indigenes, both at home and in the diaspora to reject Fayose’s stooge and anointed candidate in the coming election, Prof Kolapo Olusola. He regretted that Fayose had succeeded in rubbishing the image of Ekiti populace, fondly respected for their academic prowess and attainments globally through his ungubernatorial conducts and utterances. “Ekiti deserves to have good governance again after Fayose’s ignoble era . We can’t afford to remain perpetually in darkness in a state that is widely venerated as Fountain of Knowledge with vast human resources , even the best in Nigeria. “With the way things are, the good governance can only be assured through APC, because Fayose’s preferred candidate , Prof Olusola had promised that he would sustain the programmes of his boss, which signposted that he won’t operate beyond the pedestrian level as we are witnessing in Ekiti today. “When APC takes over power in 2018, we shall complement Buhari's anti-graft war and also institute projects that will give the state a facelift in all facets. We shall embark on aggressive youth employment, infrastructure , agriculture revolution, education for all and other programmes that will touch on the lives of our people. “Today, all Fayose is thinking of was stomach infrastructure, where people get peanuts in forms of cooked rice, indomie among other demeaning delicacies . “We are appealing to the consciousness of our people to wake up and vote wisely in 2018. The coming year is a year of liberation, I mean political liberation where we have to get rid of a government that was fashioned to favour only Fayose’s family at the expense of other Ekiti people”, he said. Faparusi said he would continue to support his party men and women to be able to stand as a vibrant opposition to the PDP government that is taking Ekiti to the precipice for possible crash, except concerted efforts are taken to salvage the situation. The APC chieftain called on the aspirants not to be disillusioned by Fayose’s tirade and blackmail against the opposition, assuring that a day of reckoning will soon beckon who those he described as “the enemies of the people and plunderers of the people’s commonwealth”.

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, has described the Sunday abduction of Senator Ayo Arise by unknown gunmen as a national embarrassment. Faparusi said the sordid scenario vividly attested to the porosity of the country’s security and how unsafe and endangered an average Nigerian has become, if a former Senator of Arise’s standing could be kidnapped in such manner. Arise, who was a Senator representing Ekiti North between 2007 and 2011, was on Sunday kidnapped alongside his driver while returning to Abuja from Oye Ekiti, his countryhome. He was kidnapped along Okene-Abuja road while traveling in his Mercedez Benz SUV. In a statement on the abduction in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, Faparusi appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris to work with all police formations in Kogi State to ensure safe release of the APC chieftain . “The way Senator Arise was kidnapped was embarrassing and condemnable. When has it become a crime for Nigerian to travel on the roads built by government as public utility. “Most worrisome was the face that he was kidnapped around 6.30pm and taken to unknown destination. “Our security must work round the clock to ensure his release. This is a worst period for Ekiti people and the State APC because Senator Arise is a distinguished son who deserves to be protected. “With the orgy of kidnappings around the country and the bombing and killings of innocent Nigerians by insurgents, there is need for overhauling of the security apparatuses to be able to rise to the challenge of securing Nigerians wherever they may be or live”, he added. On the horrendous killings of innocent Nigerians by Boko Haram in Adamawa State, Faparusi urged the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai to change the tactics by formulating and building another security architecture to tame these rampaging vampires. “With what was going on in Adamawa, it seems the Boko Haram had understood the workings of the military formations in the insurgents-infested region of the North East and there is need to change strategy. “The Nigeria Army must expand and strengthen its intelligence gathering mechanism and fortify its frontiers to avert the endless bloodshed in Adamawa. “With the current trends, it seems Boko Haram has infiltrated the security ranks and getting underhand information to foil the strategies of the Joint Task Force . “Military working on its intelligence gathering will help in smashing this sectarian group and make the country save for everybody”, he advised.

Olakiitan Ogunsiji in Ado Ekiti For disclosing that a staggering sum of N200 million would be spent on free dresses to 20,000 children to mark Christmas , a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Hon Bamidele Faparusi, has described Governor Ayodele Fayose’s administration of desperately plotting to loot the state. Describing Fayose of bereft of ideas and lacking the intellectual focus to take Ekiti to greatness, Faparusi added that the policy has vividly confirmed that the present government has no reason to succeed in its succession plan in 2018. Faparusi , said it flies in the face of commonsense for a governor that is owing as much as six month salary arrears of workers to be contemplating such a petty programme at this wrong time. In a statement in Ado Ekiti on Friday, Faparusi, a governorship aspirant and member of the seventh House of Representatives, branded the proposed programme as more of a Greek gift than a good intention. Recalling the axiom which says: (Ebi Kii pani ra aso Awin) ,meaning that an hungry man can’t go to the market to buy clothes on credit, Faparusi described the governor’s action as a signpost of gross insensitivity and ineptitude, which he said has held Ekiti down since Fayose came on board. He said he found it so appalling for a governor to be mooting the idea of buying a cut and sow dresses worth N2,000 for the child of a worker whose salaries have not been paid in the last six months. “Let me call the attention of our insensitive governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose to something, how does he a worker, who is being owed a sum of N500,000 being the gross entitlements of his salary arrears to feel that a governor was planning to buy her daughter a dress worth perhaps N1,500. “Even if the worker seems palliated by this cosmetic approach, how would he maintain peace in his family if such worker has about four children that needed to be kitted for Christmas, because I know that governor Fayose is so crafty that no worker can get more than one. “Let me also add that is Governor Fayose N2,000 worth garment enough palliative for an average Ekiti man at yuletide? Is this what an Ekiti man worth after voting for a man to determine his destiny for good four years? “Governor Fayose must pay workers salaries up to date and allow them to take care of their family needs at Christmas rather than imposing his will on them”. Faparusi urged the workers and other Ekiti citizens to reject the gift to preserve the culture of integrity and dignity which Ekiti was renowned for. “It is rather sad and disheartening for Governor Fayose to be contemplating this demeaning policy for his citizens when the governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade has paid the December salary to workers in his state. “What the workers in that state is expecting now is the bonus for the Christmas and new year from a governor who values his citizens unlike in Ekiti where tokenism has become the order of the day. “This is the more reason why our people must vote wisely in 2018. They must vote for a party who valued their dignity and persons, this is the only way by which we can develop in terms of human capital development and in infrastructure”.

Say automatic ticket will only diminish President’s popularity Victor Ogunje in Ado Ekiti An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Ekiti State and member of the seventh House of Representatives, Hon Bamidele Faparusi, has declared that the exit of former Vice President Abubakar Atiku from the All Progressives Congress (APC) though regrettable would have no deleterious impact on the chances of the party in 2019. Faparusi stated that President Muhammadu Buhari , has mass appeal in the North and lot of respect and goodwill in the southern parts of the country before becoming President, saying : “the President will survive without the support of Alhaji Atiku to return to power in 2019. On the call by some governors, including Governor Rochas Okorocha , who doubles as the Chairman of the APC governors’ forum for right of first refusal for the president ahead of of 2019, Faparusi said the proponents are only underestimating President Buhari’s electrifying acceptability across the country. He exhumed confidence that the President enjoys immense popularity within and outside APC to win election, taking cognizance of his prudent lifestyle, anti-corruption posture and masses-oriented policies. Faparusi said these in Ado Ekiti on Monday while reacting to the resignation of Atiku from APC , where the former number two man cited alleged lopsidedness to justify his action. Atiku , had last week in a letter to the State Chairman of APC in Adamawa State resigned his membership but didn’t state the next political step he will take in spite that rumour has it that he was already negotiating with the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) on his presidential ambition . Faparusi said Buhari and APC remain solid and acceptable to Nigerians with or without Atiku, describing the noise over his defection as mere fantasy hinged on old glory. He said: “President Buhari will win free and fair in APC primary in 2019, that was the principal reason why some over- ambitious APC stalwarts may want to leave the party to pursue their ambitions, any other reason was a fallacy and cheap blackmail . “Nigeria can’t criminalise defection , it is however a right which I believe should be exercised responsibly. We can only have one President at a time and there is no reason aside selfish motive to want to change a focused , sincere and performing President like President Muhammadu Buhari. “I urge other still nursing the ambition of displacing President Buhari to do that responsibly by facing the President in a free and fair primary come 2019 instead of leaving the party or sowing divisive seeds”. Faparusi said those calling for automatic ticket for President Muhammadu Buhari are only playing to the gallery. “People calling for automatic ticket for the president are only playing to the gallery, as such idea will neither serve the overall interest of the party nor the president. “To the best of my knowledge and understanding of politics , asking for automatic ticket for the president is tantamount to playing down his popularity .. “Going by records, President Buhari remains an enigma being the first Nigerian to defeat a powerful sitting president. That is why I support the call for a free, fair and transparent primary in the presidential poll the way I want it in Ekiti governorship”, he stated. Faparusi added that and fair free primary remains the only tonic the APC needs to win the 2018 governorship poll in Ekiti, saying imposition will wreck the party and render its candidate useless at the poll.

A governorship aspirant in Ekiti State and member of the seventh House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, has said the resort to blackmail by Governor Ayodele Fayose against his colleague governors in the All Progressive Congress(APC) fold won’t give his party victory in the 2018 governorship poll. Making a particular reference to the issue of proposed replacement of some incompetent teachers in Kaduna State by Governor Nasir el-Rufai, Faparusi said Fayose shouldn’t display ignorance about the fact that each state enjoys the constitutional powers to act independently without external interference. He said Fayose’s tirade against his colleague, El-Rufai and the continued blackmail that action taken by the Kaduna governor was a design of all the APC governors was a calculated attempt to cajole Ekiti people ahead Ekiti governorship poll. In a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday , Faparusi who described Fayose as a ‘meddlesome interloper’ in the teachers’ palaver in Kaduna State, stated that the governor should look inward and address all the problems pummeling the state civil servants rather than playing to the gallery on the issue of other states. “As much as I am not holding brief for Governor El-Rufai or support any of his actions, the policies of Kaduna State should be an internal affair of that state alone. Why was Governor Fayose externalizing the issue in a far North state just because of election coming up next year in Ekiti? “The 1999 constitution vested the state with powers to operate independently based on peculiarities in terms population, ethnic composition , economic and political potentials etc. “If governor Fayose loves Ekiti teachers that much, why couldn’t he abandon the misplaced flyover bridge to pay the five month salary arrears being owed them? “Many of Ekiti pensioners have not been paid for eight months. Since he came on board, no retired teacher has been paid a dime as gratuity, yet he claimed to be teachers’ friend. “During the 2017 Teachers’ Day, the governor announced the donation of N100 million to over 16,000 Ekiti teachers, which goes for N4500 per head. What can this peanut does in the life of an highly depraved and impoverished Ekiti teachers under this tense and critical situation?”, Faparusi queried. The APC chieftain added that governor El-Rufai’s action was predominantly a domestic affair of Kaduna State, which he said would have no backlash in Ekiti. He described Ekiti people as intellectually sophisticated and discernible enough to be able to decipher that Governor Fayose was only playing dirty politics with the Kaduna issue. “Let me remind Governor Fayose that his antics can’t go too far. His government has passed into laws the anti-open grazing and the anti-cultism laws, the offences that now carry life jail in our state. Almost all the PDP states in Nigeria with the exception of Ekiti and Enugu have no such laws. “So, how can the perceived offence of an APC State in Nigeria out of the 24 states being controlled by the party now constitutes an albatross to the chance of a party in an election? “Governor Fayose must face the reality that his game was up and that Ekiti people are now wiser and I am sure they will vote massively for the candidate of APC in the coming election having suffered under Fayose’s misrule”, he concluded.

A member of the seventh House of Representatives, Hon. Bamidele Faparusi, has said every member of the All Progressives Congress(APC) and the good people of the state will foil attempt by Governor Ayodele Fayose to foist unwilling governor on them in 2018. The governorship aspirant, said Ekiti people will use every constitutional means to liberate the state from slavery, saying : “Governor Fayose’s plan to bring in his deputy, Prof Kolapo Olusola , a person that is not prepared for governance is another slavery Ekiti will never tolerate”. Faparusi said Fayose had earlier succeeded in enslaving the people through his ‘tokenism’ branded stomach infrastructure to impoverish the populace and make them indolent, adding that the new plot will further added to the pains in the land if allowed to materialise . Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Friday , Faparusi said the people of the state can’t afford to experience extension of another four years of Fayose’s reign in the State, describing his anointed candidate, Prof Olusola as a stooge that will continue with the governor’s politics of beggary. Faparusi hinted that Ekiti people are proud, self-esteemed and independent-minded people, who believe in the dignity of personalities, no matter how poor. The governorship aspirant accused Fayose of deliberately eroding these virtues, so that he can continue to have his ways in the politics of the State. “Governor Fayose deliberately impoverished our people through the stomach infrastructure where you get a congo of rice and N200 twice a year. “He brainwashed our people to believe that this remains the best dividend of democracy any state chief executive can offer. “Having had his ways, he deliberately made it a matter of policy not to provide employments for our youths, embark on concrete agriculture programmes, he alienated the women from empowerment with the exception of few PDP members, who benefit from stomach infrastructure. “Today, if you move on the streets of Ado Ekiti, you see graduates clustering around without jobs to do. Naturally Ekiti people are hardworking, but Governor Fayose has made them lazy by not engaging them usefully. “But the 2018 governorship election will end his reign in Ekiti. Whoever that will become the governor will emerge through the collective mandate of the electorate and not by somebody trying to impose to cover his devilish and dirty tracks”, Faparusi stated. Faparusi urged the APC aspirants, numbering 40 to put their house in order and support whoever the party picks to fly the flag. “Though, as much as I support that the party must be united to be able to win, the party must make us happy by doing what is just, which is to conduct free, fair and credible primary in a manner that respects the principle of zoning for equity and fairplay”, he said. Malaria: North Manchester Hospital & Me (An Open Letter Of Appeal) Dear Honourable Minister of Health, Introductions I hope you are well. My name is Dayo Oluwole (@kasherltd), and I am one of your many followers on Twitter. You are (arguably) the most Twitter savvy Minister of Health that Nigeria has ever had. Your open lines of communication and responsiveness in dealing with issues on social media are highly commendable. Bravo! The purpose of this is letter is an appeal to strengthen the existing health framework in Nigeria to ensure that malaria deaths are reduced. I am aware of all the work that is being done by the Ministry and funding partners to meet the 2020 target towards pre-elimination. As I have worked with NMEP and other incredible local and international partners in the demand generation space regarding malaria. My Story I am one of those rare and fortunate people that don’t get malaria. However, on a trip to the UK last month I felt tired. I did not consider this to be unusual or alarming. As I am in good health, eat well and keep fit; I put it down to work stress. When I arrived in the UK on 31 March, I noticed I had a slight fever; I took medication and went straight bed. I was fine on Saturday but by Sunday morning, I knew something was not quite right. I was admitted to a hospital in Blackpool on 1 of April, where I had tests and it was confirmed that I had malaria. At 1.00 am on 2 April I was moved to North Manchester Hospital’s Infectious Disease Unit. While I am not a medical doctor, I have a good understanding of the first line treatment and was already wondering where the medication was going to come from. One of the registrars explained the treatment plan (which was available) and said that given my condition he wanted to repeat more tests. Within an hour tests came back at 4.6% parasitraemia. According to the UK guidelines 3% was considered severe. I realized I was extremely unwell, however, I felt completely ‘safe’ in the hands of the unit’s team, not that I had much choice at the time. During the 4 days at North Manchester hospital, the doctors and nurses focused on my clinical care and ensured that I was able to leave the hospital with 0.01% parasitraemia on the 5th of April. I have never seen such an incredible team of people! Appeal I am unsure if severe malaria would have been picked up in Nigeria, especially given the average Nigerian’s aversion to testing before treatment and our preference to self medicate. My blood pressure became dangerously low, blood sugar levels dropped and there were concerns of a build-up of fluid on my lungs. If I was in Nigeria, I would have been given medication and sent home. Because malaria is not viewed as the deadly disease it is! If, in line with “World Malaria Day” 2017’s theme we want to end malaria for good, can you PLEASE continue to ensure that policies that support testing before treatment are adhered to in Nigeria? Can you also continue with your strategic plan and ensure that Primary Health Centres are equipped with the much needed laboratory resources to provide malaria tests in a timely manner? I don’t pretend to begin to imagine the complexities that will go into taking action in respect of my appeal, but I feel compelled to share my story in the interest and welfare of my fellow Nigerians. I believe that it should be everyone’s collective responsibility to ensure that the number of deaths from malaria (especially infants and children) are significantly reduced. At the Manchester hospital, I asked one of the nurses about malaria related deaths in the unit, she said that she has been working there for 15 years and she was not aware of anyone ever dying from malaria. Granted, North Manchester Hospital doesn’t see anything near as many malaria cases as in Nigeria and I am not making any comparisons with the UK health system and ours, but can you as the ‘Doctor of the People’, lead the charge where we commit to not losing anymore Nigerians to malaria? Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, but more importantly for hopefully taking the necessary next steps to reduce deaths from malaria. I am making this appeal on bended knees in line with our Yoruba culture, when addressing our elders! Once again, thank you for your attention in this matter.
