8 Things You Should Never Put On Your Resume

(That might be costing you job offers)

Resumes open doors to interviews.

But the wrong content instantly sends them to the rejection pile.

Most people focus on cramming in every achievement.

Here's the truth:
What you leave OFF your resume is just as important as what you include.

Avoiding these common mistakes can keep your resume out of the rejection pile.

Here are 8 things you should never put on your resume:

1️⃣ Include An Objective Statement
↳ These outdated statements focus on what you want, not what you offer.
↳ Replace with a strong summary that shows why you're valuable to employers.

2️⃣ List Every Job You've Ever Had
↳ Old jobs from 15+ years ago clutter your resume and make it look outdated.
↳ Show only the last 10–15 years of experience that fits the job you want.

3️⃣ Use Generic Phrases
↳ Terms like "team player" and "hard worker" appear on millions of resumes.
↳ Replace with specific achievements that demonstrate these qualities with numbers.

4️⃣ Include Personal Information
↳ Leave out age, religion, politics, or marital status from your resume.
↳ These details can trigger unconscious bias and rarely help your candidacy.

5️⃣ Add Unnecessary Graphics
↳ Charts and fancy designs can confuse resume scanners.
↳ Keep it simple unless the job needs creative design.

6️⃣ Mention Obvious Computer Skills
↳ Jobs expect you to know Word and email already.
↳ Focus on specialized software and technical skills relevant to your industry.

7️⃣ Include References
↳ "References available upon request" wastes valuable space on your resume.
↳ Make a separate reference list to share only when asked.

8️⃣ Write Long Paragraphs
↳ Recruiters skip long text and look for key info fast.
↳ Use bullets with clear wins and space to make it easy to read.

Remember:
Your resume isn't a complete history of your work life.

It's a marketing document designed to get you interviews for specific roles you want.

May 29, 2023: The Day Nigeria Cried
By Afolayan Olawale Abayomi
December 22, 2024

The sun came up, but it felt so cold,
A day of promises that turned to gold.
Yet as the hours began to fade,
Hunger and tears were the price we paid.

In Ibadan’s streets, cries filled the air,
People fought for rice, no food to spare.
Okija’s mothers screamed in pain,
For lives were lost in hunger’s reign.

In Abuja’s city, big and grand,
A child went hungry, reached out her hand.
But help didn’t come, only more cries,
And under the stars, another one dies.

Rice was shared, but not with care,
Crowds pushed and fell; life wasn’t fair.
Grains of hope turned into dust,
And hearts were broken by shattered trust.

Oh, May 29, you gave us lies,
Your promises flew like birds in the skies.
But when they landed, they brought despair,
And left us grieving, gasping for air.

Leaders spoke, their words so sweet,
While families begged for just a piece to eat.
They looked away, their hearts like stone,
And left the hungry to fight alone.

But even in pain, a small hope grows,
Like a flower blooming through the snow.
One day we’ll rise, with heads held high,
And heal the wounds from the day you died.

Oh, May 29, we’ll never forget,
The tears we cried, the pain we’ve met.
But from this darkness, we’ll find the light,
And turn our sorrow into a fight.

CelebritiesRe: Wizkid Collects Fan's Phone At Concert, Records Himself Before Returning It (vid by afolayan22(m): 4:51am On Nov 26, 2021
Sammydanny:
Wizkid, the globally-recognized Nigerian singer, recently made the day of a dedicated fan after going the extra mile to give the individual a rare fandom moment.

The superstar was performing a track off his Made in Lagos (MIL) album and he took a moment to indulge one of those in attendance.

He requested the phone of a fan who was trying to capture every moment of his performance.

Wizkid then proceeded to instruct the DJ to turn the music down and he also urged members of the audience to keep their voices down.

This was followed by the music star recording himself on the fan’s phone and giving a shout-out to everyone watching.

You go ban tire na. So what happens to freedom of expression and beliefs? So Yorubas are free to aspire and promote their Odua beliefs and Hausas, Arewa but Igbos of course are to be banned to talk or aspire for their beliefs in Biafra. Highly disappointed in you Seun.

What stops you from coming up with a superior argument why they should remain in Nigeria? Why are you so scared to discuss Biafra? Must we all have the same line of thoughts or intellectual discourse? I reject being or tagged a zombie where a fellow man will dictate what I discuss.

RomanceUnwanted Enemy (corona Virus) by afolayan22(op): 2:38pm On Oct 02, 2020
PART ONE
By.Optimist Wale

It all started in December 2019
A group of sax diseases call covid 19
A period whereby the whole world agog for various celebration
The yuletide season came to pass despite the virus invasion
The genesis emanated from Wuhan in china
A top continent in the Asia
Many kickers had said it is contracted from an animal call bat
Although many still argue about this fact

A few researchers suggested it as a result of a lab mistake
A costly one that has put the whole world into this cage
This had reminds the world of Spain Bird flu in 19 century
A memory many cannot forget in a hurry
This virus spreads as a result of this symptoms, cough, contact and fever
It is surely a virus the world will always remember

W.H.O had declared it as a pandemic
A few had said it is a plandemic
Could this be true?
No, it is has a result of 5G network radiation
A novel initiative from the technology formation
This deadly virus had gone through the entire continent
A armful solution had been internationally implement

Containing the spread had thought us to maintain social distance
A measure that was supposed to be taken in the first instance
The world health body advises the use of hand sanitizer and nose mask
Is the best curable solution the whole world had ask?
The irony is the positive is regard as bad while negative is a good
Washing hands maintaining two meter distance had recently be a trend
Yet, we still recorded large number of cases per day to the cold hand of dead

Could the worse in the cases is as a result of our inability to observe the directive?
Maybe the measures given was not effective to curtail the spread of the killer disease.
Go away the unwanted enemy.
