Politics › Adeleke’s Unforgivable Sins: Nepotism, Secrecy And Betrayal Of ‘imole’ In Osun by Afonja2(op): 11:18pm On Apr 30 |
Beyond holding the governorship: 1. Gov. Adeleke is also Commissioner for Works, 2. Dr. Deji Adeleke- Chairman, Advisory Council 3. Yeye Dupe Adeleke- Co-chair, Advisory Council 4. Wife 1 Títí Adeleke- First Lady for administration 5. Wife 2 Ngozi Adeleke- First lady for academics 6. Adenike Folasade Adeleke- Commissioner for Federal Affairs 7. Prof. Maruf Adeleke- Budget and Planning 8. Tunji Adeleke- Chairman local government commission 9. Gbolahan Adeleke- Special Adviser on Government House Affairs. 10. David (Davido) Adeleke- Chairman of Osun Sport Trust Fund
When the drums of “Imole” drowned out the campaign noise in November 2022, Ademola Adeleke promised Osun a government of light, transparency, and relief from the past. Nearly four years later, that light has dimmed under a cloud of allegations that have come to define his tenure: a family dynasty tightening its grip on appointments from Works to Budget and Planning, major “Infra Plan” contracts awarded without competitive bidding to allies, windfall FAAC revenues managed behind late and opaque budget reports, mass sackings of workers and monarchs by Executive Order, renegotiated mining deals whispered to favor his inner circle, and palliatives distributed through party structures rather than need. For a governor who campaigned against impunity, the charge sheet now reads like a betrayal of “Imole” — nepotism, secrecy, and a blurring of the line between state power and family empire.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has drawn sharp criticism over what many see as entrenched nepotism, with key state roles dominated by members of his immediate and extended family. Beyond holding the governorship, Adeleke also serves as Commissioner for Works, while his brother Dr. Deji Adeleke chairs the Advisory Council alongside Yeye Dupe Adeleke as co-chair. The arrangement extends to two designated “First Ladies” — Títí Adeleke for administration and Ngozi Adeleke for academics — and cuts across finance, planning and local governance with Adenike Folasade Adeleke as Commissioner for Federal Affairs, Prof. Maruf Adeleke overseeing Budget and Planning, Tunji Adeleke chairing the local government commission, and Gbolahan Adeleke as Special Adviser on Government House Affairs. Even sports and public funds are not exempt, with David Adeleke named Chairman of the Osun Sport Trust Fund. The concentration of political and fiscal authority within one family raises serious questions about merit, transparency, and the use of Osun taxpayers’ money, suggesting a governance model where public appointments function less as vehicles for service delivery and more as instruments for dynastic control.
The most persistent charge is that Osun is being governed like a family compound. Opposition parties and civic voices have repeatedly pointed to a pattern of appointments that keeps cabinet seats, board chairmanships, and agency headships within the orbit of the Adeleke family and its long-time business allies. The defense from government is always the same: loyalty and competence are not crimes, and the governor is entitled to work with people he trusts. Yet trust is not the standard the Public Service Rules demand. Merit is. When the “Ede factor” becomes shorthand for who gets what, the perception of a state captured by kinship takes root, and perception in politics is a form of reality. A government that campaigned against impunity cannot dismiss this as propaganda when the optics suggest a narrowing of the state to a family project.
From Ede to Ilesa, the same whispers now trail his convoy: who really runs this government, whose pockets are being lined, and whether the line between state power and family empire has been erased. These are not yet court convictions, but they are the allegations that have defined the Adeleke years, and a government that promised daylight owes the public answers before the shadows harden into legacy.
Financial management has become another front. Critics have flagged the pace and detail of budget performance reports, questioning whether the public can truly track how grants, allocations, and loans are moving. The APC alleged in 2024 that fresh loans were taken without disclosure, a claim the government denied by pointing to debt restructuring rather than new borrowing. The dispute itself reveals the problem: in a FAAC-rich season, accountability should be easier, not harder. When IGR is rising and debt is supposedly untouched, the books should be wide open. That they are not, or that the publications come late, feeds the suspicion that windfall revenue is being managed as political capital rather than public trust.
The tone of the administration was set in its first days, and that tone still haunts it. The mass reversal of appointments through Executive Orders — sacking thousands of workers, monarchs, and board members installed by the previous government — was framed as correcting illegality. To those affected, it looked like victimisation without fair hearing. Labour unions protested. Royal stools went to court. The government’s legal argument may stand, but the political damage was done: it told the civil service that job security lasts only until the next election. For a bureaucracy already politicized by years of arrears and half-salary trauma, that message deepened the sense that the state is a spoils system, not a service system.
The same concern shadows Osun’s mineral wealth. The renegotiation of gold mining joint ventures and licenses was presented as a cleanup of a sector abused under past administrations. Yet opposition voices counter that the new deals are simply reallocating control to interests aligned with the governor’s circle. In a state desperate for revenue independence, mining should be Osun’s long-term hedge against FAAC volatility. If the process is opaque, the hedge becomes a rumor, and the promise of sanitization becomes another front in the patronage war. The pattern is familiar: a legitimate policy goal undermined by the suspicion of private gain.
Even relief has become contentious. Palliatives meant to cushion the blow of subsidy removal were rolled out with fanfare, but civil society groups alleged in 2023 and 2024 that distribution was routed through party structures, turning poverty relief into political reward. The government’s reply — that ward committees included all stakeholders — has not silenced the charge that vulnerability is being mapped by party register. When hunger is partisan, the social contract is broken. A government elected on the back of economic pain cannot afford to be seen as rationing compassion.
The Adeleke administration’s blanket response to all this is to call it “APC propaganda” and to point to ongoing projects, cleared arrears, and IGR growth as rebuttal. Delivery is important, but delivery is not immunity. No flyover erases due process questions. No paid salary justifies sacking workers without hearing. No IGR chart excuses a procurement process the public cannot see. In Osun’s adversarial politics, allegations are weapons, and many will be false. But a government that holds power in trust does not win by labeling critics. It wins by opening the books, publishing the contracts, and subjecting its family, its friends, and itself to the same rules it met in the civil service. https://decisionmakers.com.ng/adelekes-unforgivable-sins-nepotism-secrecy-and-the-betrayal-of-imole-in-osun/

Plea bargaining in the United States is very common; the vast majority of criminal cases in the United States are settled by plea bargain rather than by a jury trial.[1] They have also been increasing in frequency—they rose from 84% of federal cases in 1984 to 94% by 2001. Plea bargains are subject to the approval of the court, and different States and jurisdictions have different rules. Politics › DIG Frank Mba's Former Boss Who Was Just Promoted Commissioner Of Police by Afonja2(op): 12:36pm On Mar 24*. Modified: 6:54pm On Mar 24 |
Mr. Bode Ojajuni has just been appointed Ogun State Commissioner of Police. The appointment was announced today by the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu.
When Ojajuni was the Police PRO in Lagos State between 2005 and 2007, Frank Mba was reporting to him. Mba was to later take over from Ojajuni in 2007 as Lagos State Police PRO.
Mba has since enjoyed accelerated promotions and he's now a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police.
In 2023 alone, Mba received double promotion, first as AIG in March and DIG, three months later.
Commenting on the promotion, the then spokesman of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, explained that Mba enjoyed those accelerated promotion because he was the most senior police officer from the South East zone of the country.
It will be recalled that when Tunji Disu was promoted the IGP last month, some individuals were of the opinion that he was appointed above Frank Mba because of where he comes from. This was based on their erroneous belief that Disu was Mba's junior in the Police.
It has since been established that not only was Disu Mba's senior in the Police there are so many other police officers who are senior to him in the force. A good example is Mr. Bode Ojajuni who has just been made the new Commissioner of Police in Ogun State

Politics › Properties Of Former Governor Alao-Akala Under Litigation by Afonja2(op): 7:54am On Mar 21 |
An Oyo state High Court sitting in Ibadan has restrained the wife of the former governor, Kemi Alao Akala, from selling, disposing of or entering into any form of transaction on the contested properties of the deceased, Chief Adebayo Alao Akala, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The claimant, Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, had in a suit No 1/443/2024 sought judicial intervention over the administration of the estate of the deceased.
Joined as defendants/respondents in the suit are Oluwakemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi, listed in the court processes as executors and administrators of the estate of the late former governor.
Ruling on the motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction, the court granted the relief sought by the claimant, thereby restraining the defendants, their agents, servants, assigns, privies or any person acting through them from selling or continuing to sell, disposing of, or entering into joint venture agreements in respect of properties belonging to the late Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala pending the determination of the substantive suit before the court.
The application was brought pursuant to Order 48 Rules 4 and 6 and Order 49 of the High Court of Oyo State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2022, as well as under the inherent jurisdiction of the court.
In granting the application, the court also ordered an accelerated hearing of the case in order to ensure speedy dispensation of the matter.
The claimant had told the court that she has a legal and equitable interest in the estate and properties of the late politician, being his first daughter.
She further alleged that some assets belonging to the estate had been sold without her consent, agreement or knowledge, while steps were allegedly being taken to dispose of other properties or enter into joint venture arrangements involving assets of the deceased.
According to the application, the claimant argued that there was an urgent need for the court to halt further transactions relating to the properties in order to protect her rights, interests and entitlements in the estate.
The claimant also contended that failure to grant the injunction could result in continued sale or disposal of the assets, which she said might cause irreversible damage to her interest in the estate of the late former governor.
With the interlocutory injunction now in force and accelerated hearing ordered by the court, further proceedings in the case are expected to focus on the substantive issues surrounding the administration and ownership of properties forming part of the late politician’s estate.
Meanwhile, during proceedings in the matter, an additional application seeking that DNA tests be conducted among the siblings connected to the dispute was also moved before the court.
Following arguments on the application, the court adjourned the matter to April 16, 2026, for ruling on the request for DNA testing.
The dispute has drawn public attention given the stature of the late Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, who served as governor of Oyo state between 2007 and 2011 and remained a prominent political figure in the state until his death. https://www.tribuneonlineng.com/court-restrains-kemi-alao-akala-from-selling-late-ex-govs-properties/

Politics › Re: Why Nigeria Urgently Needs A National Referendum And Not An Election In 2027 by Afonja2: 1:41pm On Mar 19 |
truthera: I will use to medium to reply to @givedemwotowoto and other commentators who made comments in a previous thread titled - "Peter Obi Has Been Fooling Nigerians For Too Long" I posted in support of 2027 elections, making the argument that large number of Nigerians trooping out to vote in the next election will somehow overwhelm the riggers. Yes, I do agree to an extent that the liklihood of stopping Tinubu and APC may be possible if a large number of Nigerians participate in the next presidential election but this is only an unrealistic assumption that personally I believe is impossible now since the president control INEC and has demonstrated his complicity through the omission of mandatory electronic transmission of results in the recently passed electoral reform law.
The major reason why I do not think that elections can make any lasting positive impact towards addressing the problems of Nigeria is because overtime i came to the realization that there are certain pertinent factors that must be addressed before any meaningful progress can be made through elections in Nigeria. I will list and explain these factors below.
High cost of living, deliberately engineered deprivation of the masses
Elections in Nigeria even when conducted in a free and fair basis will never truly reflect the true will of the people when poverty and systemic deprivation has been weaponized by powerful political forces that will always be used as bargaining cheap to subvert democratic processes. A bad leader like Tinubu knows this very well and will exploit it to the fullness in the run up to the 2027 presidential election. Vote buying remains a critical factor that will always determine to a large extent the outcome of any election as long the masses remain poor, highly taxed and are continually in need of refuge from the high cost of living as prices of goods and services continue to rise, deliberately orchestrated by Tinubu and his government, a vicious cycle that will never allow the true will of a large voting block to thrive. So just like 2023, many Nigerians out of desperation will still sell their votes to ensure APC wins.
Tribal religious indiced divisive political ideologies
Nigerians are deeply tribal religious people, highly sentimental towards every national issues even when it goes against their personal interests. There is no way a national election just like every other national issue won't be view through the lense of tribalism and religion by a large population of Nigerians who due to sentiment will support, fight other Nigerians and vote massively to ensure that Tinubu's Yoruba, Muslim/Muslim government get a second term. Education has no impact on curbing such sentiments because it will surely play a crucial role in the next presidential election, giving Tinubu and his party APC the required boost to win the next presidential election.
Deep Corruption, greed and selfish impulses
Another major problem that has overtime taken a deep rooted position in Nigeria's national polity is corruption, greed and selfishness. These vices knows no tribal affiliation among Nigerians when it comes to political national issues and events. This is why in every election cycle, a large number of Nigerian youths become political thugs for hire, they become willing tools in the hands of desperate politicians to hijack ballot boxes, kill political opponents and vote for corrupt politicians. Many Nigerians view election season as a time to make money from corrupt selfish practices, especially INEC officials, electoral officers and opposition party agents. Instead of working towards national progress, they will do all within their power once bribed by dirty politicians to sabotage the electoral process in favor of their paymasters..... 2027 presidential election will not be different as many Nigerians just like 2023 will fall to their corrupt, selfish, greedy vices to ensure a massive victory for APC.
Lack of patriotism over one Nigeria project
Since independence, Nigerians have failed to demonstrate true patriotism towards their country. This in my opinion is to a large extent is because of the circumstances on which the country came into existence. A forced union bringing different highly sectional people together without their consent in to a British creation. I will say this was deliberately done by the country's founders and their British colonial masters due to selfish political interests because anyone still in doubts should ask the question, why has successive governments since independence shyed away and continue to shy away from conducting a national referendum on Nigeria? The answer is simple, because Nigeria's unity is cosmetic, it is not real. If a referendum is conducted today over 80% will vote to leave the union including a sizable number from the north who will be happy to form an independent Islamic country for themselves. Nigeria is a country of pretenders lying to themselves that they care about one Nigeria when in reality they don't, that's why they continue to exhibit nonchalant selfish attitude towards every national issues, nothing can work when the people are too sectional to be together, when they do not love a country simply because they feel forced to remain in a union in which there is no inherent demonstrable value they see to inspire patriotism in such toxic union.... This is why the criminals leading the country can rig elections, loot the treasury, get away with unspeakable atrocities and you see Nigerians do nothing to confront them but complain on social media.... Nigeria is a nation without a soul, until all indigenous people are given the chance to give their consent, have their say about their true position as regards Nigeria through a national referendum, the situation will continue to get worse as we will keep going around in circles ..... No presidential, legislative or government election can address any of the other factors I highlighted earlier like bad leaders, poverty, tribalism, corruption, selfish politics and so on with out the people confronting this foundational issue that has continued to haunt Nigeria till this day..... This is why just like 2023, the outcome of the 2027 elections won't be different, it won't make any positive difference in the lives of Nigerians.. The people must seat, tell themselves the truth and renegotiate their union in a round table before any genuine progress can be made. Going through all your posts here on Nairaland, no one needs to be a Jupiter to know where you are coming from. Let me however assure you that no conferendum will be conducted in Nigeria and election will be held next year. The earlier you know and accept this, the better for you and your co-travellers. |

Celebrities › Tonto Dikeh Reconciles With Ex-husband, Olakunle Churchill by Afonja2(op): 4:27pm On Jan 24 |
We are living proof that the Word of God is eternal and unfailing. God is not a God who abandons what He has started. When He begins a work, He stays with it until it is completed.
After ten long years of public battles, deep wounds, broken communication, bitterness, and pain, God stepped in. What looked ugly, impossible, and beyond repair has been touched by mercy. Peace has replaced chaos. Respect has returned where anger once lived. What human effort could not fix, God healed by salvation, humility, and the sincere prayers of a child.
This restoration is not by might, not by wisdom, not by strength—but by the Spirit of the Lord. When God moves, the human mind cannot comprehend the process. He softens hearts, silences the enemy, and rewrites stories that looked finished. Every plan of darkness has failed. Stubbornness has bowed. Pride has melted. Love has found its voice again for my child.
I am deeply grateful to the father of my child Dr kunle for yielding to God’s word and choosing peace. Obedience to God always births restoration, even when the road has been long and painful.
To anyone standing where I once stood, tired, wounded, misunderstood, and believing nothing good can come out of the situation.please hear this: God has not abandoned you. Your story is not over. What He has started, He will surely perfect. Keep praying. Keep choosing love. Keep trusting God even when it hurts.
May this restored relationship remain built on the solid rock of God’s mercy, protection, grace, and mighty hand. May it stand as a living testimony that God never fails, never forgets, and never walks away from His own.
If God did it for us, He can do it for you. 🙏

Politics › Lagos State Was Never Nigeria's Capital - Reno Omokri by Afonja2(op): 3:29pm On Jul 28, 2025 |
Lagos State Was Never Nigeria's Capital. It Can Name, Rename, and Un-name Anything As It Pleases
There is a lot of ignorance about Nigeria displayed by so-called activists and even journalists. I am surprised some people are saying Lagos State was a former federal capital, and for that reason, it is a no-man's land. Therefore, its politics and policies should reflect the culture and heritage of other states.
Actually, that is not historically accurate. Lagos State was never Nigeria's capital.
Yes, Lagos Island was once Nigeria's capital. But the rest of the state was not. Even at that, it was not the entire island that was the capital; it was certain identified districts.
And that is why you see all ethnicities represented on Lagos Island. For example, the two most prominent roads on the island are named after a Fulani man, Ahmadu Bello Way, and an Igbo gentleman, Ozumba Mbadiwe.
And I am not talking about one tiny Wole Soyinka Close with a corrugated signboard. I am referring to world-class roads with vista views of the Atlantic Ocean and hosting billion-dollar infrastructure, as well as class-A embassies and foreign missions.
The capital of Lagos State is Ikeja, and the capital of the Federal Government until Thursday, December 12, 1991, was Lagos Island. Even in the capital of Lagos, the most important, expensive and strategic public infrastructure is named after a man from Kano, Murtala Muhammed International Airport. And no Lagosian has ever complained about that, because Murtala Muhammed was instrumental to the creation of Lagos State.
It is just like London. There is a difference between the City of London and London. They are under different governments. And when you refer to London as the capital of the UK, you are referring to the City of London. The other parts of London are officially referred to as Greater London.
Even before the capital of Nigeria moved to Abuja in 1991, Lagos State was and still is like any other state. It was created to preserve the culture, traditions, and heritage of the indigenous people of the state.
This means that, in framing its policies, the Lagos State Government, its Local Governments, and LCDAs, like any other state, can and should give priority to its indigenes.
It is not cheating. It is the reason the Federal Government created states in the first place. To give specific Nigerian ethnicities their own space for their culture to thrive within the Nigerian federation.
While it is good for states to be inclusive in their culture, it is not the duty of any state other than one's own state of origin to promote your own culture, tradition, and heritage.
That is why even in the United States, some states are pro abortion, and others are not. Some are for LGBTQ, while others are dead set against it. Particular states name streets and public buildings after racist Confederate heroes, and other states do not, and even go as far as renaming public infrastructure named after such persons.
However, there is freedom of movement and association in Nigeria. Nigeria has 35 other states apart from Lagos. If you do not like Lagos State, or think it is 'smelling', then you have options.
However, I need to remind you that according to the United Nations, the dirtiest and most polluted state and city on Earth are in Nigeria, and it is not the city of Lagos or the State of Lagos. You may want to Google the identity of that state and city. Also, please note the following: Lagos pays above minimum wage Lagos does not owe civil servants salaries Lagos offers subsidised public transportation Lagos provides subsidised public education to all residents Lagos conducts LGA elections The Lagos Governor does not sit on LGA funds Lagos provides soup kitchens for the poor Lagos provides subsidised farmers' markets Lagos has invested heavily in public infrastructure Lagos is the 19th best city to live in the world, according to Timeout Magazine
If you want to use the renaming of streets in Lagos as an excuse to protest, and use your protest as a ploy to destroy public infrastructure, go and protest in your state, where your Governor and government have not done even a fifth of what Sanwoolu has done in Lagos.
Except you have another motive!

Politics › Re: Tinubu Directs Wike, Others To Provide Land For New APC National Secretariat by Afonja2: 6:48pm On Jul 24, 2025*. Modified: 7:08pm On Jul 24, 2025 |
Olu1000: It’s over for Nigeria ! Tinubu is worse than a military ruler ! What do you expect from a former drug lord with stolen identity? There are many children on this forum. Let me shock you. In 1989, IBB government established two political parties: the center-right National Republican Convention (NRC) and the center-left Social Democratic Party (SDP). That year, Nigeria had 449 local government areas. This number increased to 500 by August 1990, and further to 589 by September 1991. Nigeria also had 30 states in 1991. Now, here is the shocker! IBB built two national secretariats for the parties. Not only that he built two secretariats in each state and two secretariats in each local government in the entire Nigeria. Let me summarize it for you. 1. National Secretariats- 2 2. State Secretariats- 60 3. LG Secretariats- 1,178. Now, do the maths. That is how much the military government of IBB wasted in building party secretariats for NRC and SDP in the ill-fated 3rd Republic. |

Politics › Mohammed Babangida Accepts Tinubu’s Appointment, Denies Reports Of Rejection by Afonja2(op): 4:53pm On Jul 21, 2025 |
Muhammed Babangida has officially accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), expressing deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the trust reposed in him.
In a press statement released Monday, Babangida dismissed as false and malicious the reports circulating online suggesting he had rejected the appointment. He described such claims as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the Tinubu administration.
“We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, as announced by the federal government, and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for the trust and confidence bestowed upon him,” the statement read in part.
It further assured the public that those behind the fake reports would be identified and held accountable.
“We also want to assure the public that those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and fostering unity within our nation,” it added.
The statement concluded with a call for Nigerians to remain discerning and to verify information from credible sources.
Muhammed Babangida’s appointment was among several strategic appointments approved by President Tinubu to strengthen leadership across key government institutions. https://politicsnigeria.com/breaking-muhammed-babangida-accepts-tinubus-appointment-denies-reports-of-rejection/

Politics › Ifeanyi Okowa, All Members Of The PDP In Delta State Defect To APC by Afonja2(op): 4:02pm On Apr 23, 2025 |
Following the defection earlier today of the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the All Progressives Party (APC), his immediate predecessor and Atiku Abubakar's Deputy Presidential Candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa and all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have followed suit. The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, by Senator James Manager, shortly after a meeting that lasted over six hours at Government House, Asaba.
Manager stated, “All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC.
“We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat,” he said. The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Aniagwu Charles, officially confirmed the governor’s defection and the collective decision of Delta PDP leaders and stakeholders to join the APC.
“There is a need for us to adjust our drinking patterns. And in adjusting that drinking pattern, we needed to make a decision that would further help to cement the development in our state, to build the court of law that has existed in our state, to further advance the cause of security and the welfare of our people, and, to a large extent, ensure that development in Delta is not truncated,” Aniagwu stated.
He continued, “In taking that decision, we concluded that leaving the PDP was very necessary for us to be able to collaborate and build a state that every Deltan will be proud of. We believe that what is happening, and the state of the PDP, is akin to that palm wine whose taste has changed — and there was a need for us to change the drinking party.”
Charles added that the decision was unanimously made by party leaders and stakeholders, hinting at a formal public declaration soon.
“By the grace of God, on Monday next week, we will be able to make a very big statement confirming that we are moving into the APC,” he said.
The move marks a significant turning point in Delta State politics, signalling a broader political recalibration that could reshape party dominance in the South-South region. https://punchng.com/okowa-oborevwori-others-dump-pdp-for-apc/ |
Politics › Re: Lagos To Unveil Special Vehicle Number Plates For PWDs by Afonja2: 7:17am On Apr 23, 2025 |
SmartPolician: I was trying to see where the commissioner would mention the benefits of having those number plates, but it wasn't mentioned anywhere. Talking about benefits is a basic marketing strategy. This is common sense. I don't know where they get these people to work in public service. This was how another medium reported it. In Lagos, a special number plate for persons with disabilities (PWDs) offers recognition and potentially benefits like free medical care and access to accessible public transportation. The Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) is implementing a scheme to identify PWDs with specially designed number plates. This could lead to improved accessibility for PWDs, as the government is also working to ensure public buildings and structures are accessible. Benefits of a special number plate for PWDs in Lagos: Recognition and Identification: The number plate serves as a visual identifier for PWDs, potentially facilitating access to services and support designed for them. Access to Services: The special number plate might be linked to accessing government-provided services, such as free healthcare in public institutions, as stipulated in the Lagos State Special Peoples' Law. Improved Accessibility: The government's commitment to making public buildings and transport accessible could be further supported by the use of these number plates, potentially leading to a more inclusive environment. Enhanced Public Awareness: The special number plate can raise public awareness about PWDs and their needs, fostering a more understanding and supportive community. Potential for Special Discounts or Privileges: While not explicitly mentioned, the special number plate could potentially be used to access discounts or privileges in various sectors, further enhancing the lives of PWDs. Financial Assistance and Support: The Lagos State Government has also provided financial assistance to homes that care for persons with disabilities. The Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) is actively involved in producing these special number plates. |

Politics › President Tinubu Meets Fubara In London by Afonja2(op): 7:13pm On Apr 22, 2025 |
Tensions in Nigeria’s oil-rich Rivers State may be easing after weeks of political uncertainty and protests. Behind closed doors, President Tinubu and Fubara are engaging in quiet diplomacy that could reshape the region’s leadership.
Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu met with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, whom he suspended on 18 March, The Africa Report can confirm.
Two aides to the president confirmed to our correspondent that the meeting took place in London last week, shortly after Tinubu left Paris.
The meeting, it was learnt, was at the insistence of Governor Fubara, who has been desperate to return to office since the president declared a state of emergency in oil-rich Rivers State.
Suspension soon to be lifted? “It is true. Governor Fubara held a private meeting with the president last week. Fubara has promised to make some compromises. Negotiations are ongoing, but from all indications, his suspension will be lifted before the six-month deadline,” said an adviser to the president who wished to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to speak to the press.
Another presidential aide said Fubara is also open to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to ingratiate himself with the president and then obtain cover.
“If Fubara joins the APC, it means the president’s chances of winning Rivers State are much higher,” he says.
The Africa Report was informed that Fubara’s estranged godfather, Nyesom Wike, was not part of the meeting and was uncomfortable with such meetings taking place behind his back.
However, Tinubu is expected to broker a meeting between Fubara, Wike, and the Rivers State lawmakers to find a lasting solution to the crisis in the state.
Background The president had on 18 March declared a state of emergency in Rivers State for six months, just hours after two oil pipelines exploded.
Security officials traced the explosion to a longstanding feud between Governor Fubara and 27 state lawmakers who are loyal to Wike, the current minister of the Federal Capital.
The state lawmakers had, at Wike’s prodding, resolved to impeach the governor for constitutional breaches, including the alleged bombing of the state parliament building.
With Nigeria relying on oil receipts for about 60% of government revenue and 90% of its foreign exchange, the Tinubu administration decided to declare a state of emergency to save the state from descending into anarchy.
He followed up by appointing former naval chief Ibok-Ete Ibas as the sole administrator of Rivers State with full powers to act as governor.
The move was criticised by organised labour, the opposition, the Nigerian Bar Association and several media organisations. Former vice president and opposition leader Atiku Abubakar described the move as a power grab ahead of the 2027 election.
But Tinubu argued that he had the constitutional power to declare a state of emergency even though he had criticised president Olusegun Obasanjo when he took a similar action in 2005. Tinubu’s declaration was endorsed by parliament.
Since Fubara’s suspension, however, there have been weekly protests in Rivers State and cases instituted in court, but the governor has been criticised for not taking a tougher stance.
In his Easter message, Governor Fubara called on the people of Rivers State to continue to support Tinubu. https://www.theafricareport.com/382071/nigeria-president-tinubu-meets-suspended-governor-fubara-in-london/
