PoliticsRe: Why Is Igbo The Most Celebrated Tribe In Nigeria? by Afonja2: 12:27pm On Apr 02, 2023
May be you are too young to understand. This is the opinion of other Nigerians about Igbo. This opinion was true, has been true and will continue to be true and it is the same reason they will never be allowed to rule this country.

PoliticsI Didn't Write Any Letter Calling For Tinubu's Arrest - Prof Akinyemi by Afonja2(op): 6:02am On Mar 31, 2023
Former Foreign Affairs Minister Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi has said he was not responsible for a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari calling for the arrest of President-elect Bola Tinubu.
He said the seditious letter was embarrassing to him and his associates.

The retired university don had received calls from home and abroad about the fake news, which has exposed the negative impact of unregulated social media.

The elder statesman said the seditious and spurious letter in social media should not be attributed to him.

Akinyemi said it is possible that since his illustrious father, Canon Akinyemi, did not patent his name when he was named, anybody can pose as the bearer of the name.

The former Minister said: “My attention has been drawn to the seditious and spurious letter to the President, General Muhammadu Buhari calling for the arrest of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. My name has been attached to this letter.

“I am stating most emphatically that I did not write or authorize this letter.

“I sign my letter Professor A. Bolaji Akinyemi and not in any format.

I have sought legal advice on this matter and have been advised that since my parents did not patent my name when I was maned, anyone can call himself Bolaji Akinyemi.”

Ijesa-born Akinyemi, a professor of International Relations, is a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos; an Afenifere intellectual, a member of Uwais Panel on Electoral Reforms, and former Deputy Chairman of the National Conference Committee.

Contrary to earlier publications in some online platforms that he is currently in London, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Kayode Ariwoola was seen on Friday leaving the Supreme Court for the Ansar-Ud-Deen Central Mosque, Abuja, to observe his prayers.

This is coming in the wake of speculations that he is in London to meet president-elect Bola Tinubu.

Location: Uru Primary School
Ward: UMUCHIEZE I
LGA: UMU - NNEOCHI
State: Abia.

As can be seen,

1. APC scored 40 but it was changed to 4
2. LP scored 22 but was changed to 100

PoliticsObasanjo is a danger to Democracy- Gen. Akinrinade by Afonja2(op): 8:49am On Feb 28, 2023
PRESS STATEMENT

AN INTERLOPING FORMER PRESIDENT IS A PRESENT DANGER TO DEMOCRACY

The recent statement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the recently concluded elections must be condemned in the strongest terms by democracy loving Nigerians and those who care about the unity of this country.

His statement coming at a time when the Independent National Electoral Commission was still busy with the conduct and release of the elections results is both unfortunate and a glaring and calculative attempt to game the system. Without any shred of evidence a former President is challenging the integrity of a national elections and calling a seating President to truncate it midway.

As a General who fought for the unity of this country and one that has witnessed the many twists and turns of our Democratic development, I am certain that Nigeria this time is on the right path. I find it most disturbing and objectionable that a former General and President will introduce such a diatribe into the body politic of Nigeria at such a delicate time as this.

Being not neutral, Obasanjo’s intervention falls short of patriotism and fits perfectly into meddling in the affairs of state that is already the constitutional responsibility of INEC.

Nigerians can easily recall the obasanjo years and his democratic antics and many bullish attempts at circumventing the political process.

I call on President Muhammadu Buhari to ignore Obasanjo’s recent interruptions and focus on supporting the lawful institution to do its job by allowing the process to run it’s full course.

The President Buhari i know will let the process run its full course and will not intervene in an undemocratic manner to truncate the ongoing political process.

Luckily, President Buhari is made of finer and more principled democratic stuff. He will not allow Obasanjo to lure him into tainting his democratic credentials in this regard. I recall that in his last trip to the United States, President Joe Biden praised Buhari's commitment to democratic values and principles. Obasanjo has no such record to be applauded.

The world has not forgotten his fraudulent and undemocratic attempt at a third term agenda in violation of the letter and spirit of the Nigerian constitution.

In 2007, after his botched third term bid, Obasanjo conducted the worst election in the history of Nigeria. The beneficiary of that electoral heist, Late President Umaru Yar’Adua openly admitted that his presidency was a product of a fraudulent election with a commitment to reform the electoral process.

Nigerians have voted. Their votes have counted. Let no one disrupt the process.

Trust me, I have many Northern Christians as friends. And right now, they see Southern Christians (especially those from the WEST) as extreme bigots.

After seeing the results from Ekiti and a few ward results from Ondo, one of them just called to express his anger. He is from Kaduna and he's asking why Obi couldn't even win one ward in a supposed Southern states? This is a well bred Hausa man who delivered his polling unit to an Igbo man in KD.

PoliticsElection 2023: Breakdown Of Party Agents Submitted To INEC By Political Parties by Afonja2(op): 3:26pm On Feb 20, 2023
On January 23, 2023, INEC announced that 18 registered political parties in Nigeria have submitted a total of 1,575,689 polling agents (PAs) to represent them at the 176,846 polling units across the country.

Please see here https://dailytrust.com/political-parties-submit-1-5m-agents-for-176846-polling-units/

According to law, each political party is expected to present a party agent in each of the 176,846 polling units in the country, especially for the presidential election, which comes up on Saturday 25 February, 2023.

A further breakdown has been released which revealed the number of party agents submitted by each of the political parties. In the breakdown, only the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) and Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) have party agents in each of the polling units across the country. Others could not meet this, due to reasons that are not readily made available.

See below the breakdown of party agents submitted to INEC by political parties in the country.

1. APC- 176,974 Agents (100%)
2. LP- 41,234 Agents (23.30%)
3. NNPP - 23,460 Agents (13.25%)
4. PDP- 176,974 Agents (100%)
5. Other 14 Political Parties - 1,081,358

The big question is: if a political party could not present party agents in all the polling units in the country, how will their interests be protected on the election day?

PoliticsStop The Joke About Interim Government, Elections Will Hold- Buhari by Afonja2(op): 5:13pm On Feb 17, 2023
STOP THE JOKE ABOUT INTERIM GOVERNMENT, ELECTIONS WILL HOLD, TINUBU MY FAVOURED SUCCESSOR

Joseph Goebbels, the propaganda Chief of Adolf Hitler said ‘‘Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth’’. This was in the 1930s, before the internet was birthed.

Let us clearly, specifically and emphatically state that there is absolutely no truth to the claim that President Muhammadu Buhari is working towards an interim government or even worse, the truncation of democracy- democracy that he has helped to keep alive not only here at home, in West Africa but throughout the continent.

The talk of interim government and truncation of democracy is way off the mark. Those who peddle it stand to gain nothing- nothing at all -but the creation of panic and the incitement of the public against the federal government.

It is another dangerous dimension by people who are afraid that they may lose their elections.

Everybody is aware that there is a lot of pressure on everyone-all of us- the party, its elected officials, its candidates and law enforcement agencies following the way the currency swap has gone but the way to go is not to panic.

There is indeed a problem and nobody will pretend that it doesn’t exist.

It is precisely because the President is concerned with this problem that he opened several avenues for consultation with leaders and groups across the country, culminating in his broadcast to the nation on Thursday morning.

In line with the speech, his clear and unequivocal directive is that the problem of cash supply must be addressed without delay.

While this is being done, there is no need to panic. We need to work together as leaders; as a people and as one nation. When panic hits, people go into overdrive. Shouting helps no one because no one can listen.

The solution to the problem is not in sending Nigerians into confusion.

Elections, just a week ahead, will hold and Nigerians will vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, (and any others if they so wish) on the basis of their choice.

Our people want progress, good governance, law and order and will not be swayed by the negative energy that is being expended against a well-meaning currency change.

Finally, to state that: the President clearly has a favoured successor in Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is not in doubt.

The fact that Tinubu has been opposed to the speed and timing of the Naira swap timetable does not mean he is against the idea of Nigeria becoming a cashless society. Of course, Tinubu does support a cashless society: for he is a man of the future.

What should be made crystal clear to the doubters and the speculators and the untruth-tellers is that in no way was the naira swap “engineered” to keep the President in office beyond May 29. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The President looks forward to handing over the reins of power to his elected successor. This will happen on May 29, 2023 as the Constitution requires it.

The days of unelected Nigerian leaders, and those who outstay their welcome by unconstitutionally extending it, have gone.

PoliticsPress Release: Tinubu Never Asked Governors To Disregard Buhari by Afonja2(op): 5:03pm On Feb 17, 2023
PRESS STATEMENT

It is fake news: Tinubu never asked governors to disregard President Buhari

Our attention has been drawn to a fake viral news published by the Peoples Gazette, claiming Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate has asked APC governors to ignore President Muhammadu Buhari’s broadcast and enforce the Supreme Court ruling on the recirculation of old Naira notes.

The publication by the platform is fake .

Tinubu never issued such an order. Mr Dele Alake, the APC-PCC Adviser on Media and Communications never issued such advisory on behalf of Asiwaju Tinubu.

The message quoted by Peoples Gazette was being randomly shared on WhatsApp. Mr Alake was not the author.

Asiwaju Tinubu has been known, since the currency swap crisis started, to call for calm as the authorities try to find out a solution to the currency crisis. He has offered a six-point suggestion to lessen the anguish our people are facing in trying to get money from the banks.

He has also held several meetings with President Buhari, his leader over the matter.

It is thus inconceivable and unthinkable that he would instruct APC governors to disregard President Muhammadu Buhari’s order on the currency matter.

Governors who have so far declared this line of action said clearly that they were acting on the ruling of the Supreme Court, the highest court in the land.

Asiwaju has had no influence in this decision.

Journalists, unless acting on the dictates of political opponents or prosecuting some agenda, should endeavour to confirm authorship of their materials from the Media and Publicity Directorate of the campaign. They can also seek confirmation from the Tinubu Media Office or Mr. Alake .

The Gazette should recant the story with immediate effect.
