seguno2:dont get me wrong I never stated that fash govt are totally blameless and I am sure fashola himself will agree that his govt have not done enough however my point is that in this case the govt and the traders carry an equal share of the blame.. I gave an example before and I will repeat it again because it is very important ask anybody you know who has a shop or business in the United Kingdom that I am familiar with and they will tell you what they pay ...a shop selling hot I.e cooked food will pay a totally different local govt levy from those selling cold food and drinks this is due to the fact that the hot food will generate more rubbish apart from that there are costs directly tied to renting shops in particular areas this is different from the normal tax and other fees which goes directly to hmrc in some areas especially London,Manchester Birmingham e.t.c what you will pay to the borough in charge in fees is equal to if not more than the rent.. Secondly pls make sure to confirm my assertions independently...if you are caught disposing off engine oil improperly it is enough for the police to fine you in UK in Germany u could be jailed and fined this is the responsibility of the traders not govt whenever govt steps in to do the clean up they charge the costs which is normally higher to the offending party in ladipo traders dispose off their toxic waste engine oil, dangerous parts e.t.c indiscriminately because there is no one to call them up on it over the years this has piled up and become an eyesore and health risk... Hope you realise the rot and build up of the rubbish has been there before even tinubu who did not do much then fashola You stated that the relevant agencies should have sensitised and educated the traders but if you have gone through the 6 pages on this thread you will realise people already have their ingrained believes which cannot be changed so what is a govt to .. A clean environment will allow more customers to visit their market,it will give the traders a healthier environment and also the neighbourhood who suffer the brunt of it when they have left for their homes...if the president/execs of the traders had organised a PPP or a fully run privately refuse collection and disposal unit they will make additional funds for their association and should have been vindicated in this instance |

seguno2:i am not holding brief for the govt, the point is sorting out the situation on ground as easily and seamlessly as possible will you wait on govt for donkey years if they refuse to do their duty? besides have you compared what traders pay to muslin local govt in relation to the services required to clear the market? i have posted a link in the previous page of the city of london budget check how much is budgeted for cleaning the streets then compare to the total allocation of not mushn local govt but lagos state govt/lawma seguno2:one of the most fundamental things i learnt in a british university is not just the book knowledge but taking the initiative and getting things done without necessarily waiting for govt, unless we are being clueless we all know that even with the corruption and what not, lago state budget cannot realistically cope with all that needs to be done…migration to lagos is out of control and still continuing……traders and business ppl never ever pay the correct fees they are supposed to govt..if i was chairman of those traders it behoves me to clean the whole place up and make it conducive because we will be the first to enjoy it..a fraction of what they have lost in the couple of days of not trading would not only have cleaned the market but ongoing weekly or bi weekly cleaning as well..in a park not far from my house groups of teenagers gather there in d evenings smoking and drinking alcohol just last week i saw about 4 white retirees with black bean bags picking the litter on my way to work when i got back and passed through the park it was cleaned and they even hanged extra bean bags on the wooden post demarcating the park where ppl throw rubbish that is taking the initiative.. seguno2:so in your own peculiar view, the muslin local govt have not done any single thing in that market then?? besides referring to my point above do a comparative analysis to how much traders in the market pay in levys and fees to govt then compare to how much a shop owner in liverpool street market in london pays to the govt…apart from the almost 40% page tax the borough which is the equivalent of a local govt then you will begin to appreciate both cases btw the info is available on the net seguno2:it is a regressive mindset equating perceived govt clampdown which is long overdue with tribal sentiments |

Akiika: I have come to term with the fact that most people on this thread are either unenlightened or slightly educated (worst than being illiterate). I can't believe people are making the case for these dirty traders.GOD bless you for this comment i didn't even see this before i made my comments..they are quick to point out examples of western countries as if we pay the same tax..we black people and our dirty habits always follow us all around the world go to any area where black people and nigerians live and its in same condition as ladipo instead of them to imbibe western cultures they blame westerners for moving away from the neighbourhood because of racism |

i know a guy whose whole container of spare parts was seized and he was fined thousands of euros to clean the engine oil in germany just because the truck transporting his container to the port was dripping black oil over the roads these traders have been indiscriminately dumping refuse including environmentally harmful refuse without a care for several years…Nigeria can never improve with this stupid regressive mindset of terming everything with ethnic/tribal sentiments |

ROSSIKE:so whose fault is it that the market is dirty?? did fashola send people there to pile all the dirt there??i dont get how you people reason sometimes… you are always quick to shout taxes taxes..how many businesses in the whole of lagos pay the correct taxes?? if an auditor was sent into ladipo market to check their books against the taxes paid how many of them will come up vindicated and stand confident?? yet you want government to conjure up additional billions from where exactly i dont know to do ladipo market traders jobs for them do you know how much is paid in taxes in the uk?? the budget of only the nhs is more than nigeria's total budget with oil money combined(80b pounds plus just nhs) this is a link to the 2012-2013 budget of only london city council with considerably less population than lagos state pls compare it to the total budget of lagos state plus the whole of the southwest converted to naira before you just talk…...http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/about-the-city/who-we-are/budgets-and-spending/Documents/au-fn-strategic-budget-book-final-2012.pdf can all the shop owners pay the same tax business owners pay in the uk which is the highest in the world? and even if they do how many of ladipo business owners pay the correct tax and not lie that they made a loss year in year out? the state governors collecting 13% derivation have not done half of what fashola is doing considering he has to cotend with over populated lagos.. the head of the ladipo shop owners/businesses should have commissioned this himself a long time ago…contract it out to a private firm and get the shop owners to contribute weekly for the cleaning same as they do for security levy not waiting for govt |

Bliss4Lyfe: Y do the traders pay tax? Local gov should stop sharing money and start working.they pay tax to use the roads to and from their house to the market, they pay tax for the police protecting them from armed robbers carting away their proceeds….no one should have to force able bodied adults to clean their environments especially a business place when they are not animals..if they want to chop then they should do the right thing and stop whining and bitching like a 5yrs old kid the same set of people will complain of fashola yoruba govt neglecting them if rainy season comes and washes away their shop |

#UPDATE What Caused Goldie Harvey’s Death IBRAHIM SALAWU Goldie Harvey born October 22, 1982 is a multi-talented Nigerian musician. She recently started shooting for her Reality TV show with her close friend Denrele. She just returned from LA where she attended the Grammys and news of her death just spread like wildfire hours ago. Apparently Goldie complained of headache but nobody took it seriously. Hours later she slumped and died. Her body was brought into Reddington hospital, Victoria Island Lagos, at 7:55 and by then she was dead. It’s probably a neurological (having to do with the brain) issue. It’s possible she was having brain seizures which her body interpreted as headaches. Eventually she slumped and died. An autopsy will ascertain. There was nothing the hospital staff could do. Information was gotten from cool fm OAP Nnamdi Nwabasili otherwise known as N6. He’s at the hospital with other OAPs and some celebrities including Kennis Music crew. Reports have it that a crowd has gathered at the hospital to confirm this news. Her corpse is on its way to the mortuary. #F9M http://unilagolodo.com/2013/02/update-what-caused-goldie-harveys-death/ |

cramjones: It is also possible that she had a paradoxical embolic stroke....The news coming in says she complained of sudden headache. About 10 - 20% of adults have an atrial septal defect (asymptomatic), so the clot must have gotten to her left heart and caused a stroke. If she had a pulmonary embolism she would have had respiratory distress before dying...but the presentation was headache and then death.nigerian doctors…smh is that what they taught you in medical school,to conduct autopsy based on hearsay?? the only cause of death remotely attached to her at this stage is pneumonia which also has similar symptoms of headache, shortness of breath e.t.c i dont know where you bunch of i too know got your information from that she definitely died of a blood clot |

aieromon: I just called Reddington Hospital to confirm and its phucking true. She got to the hospital dead and the people that brought her in were stuck in traffic. She got to the hospital around 8p.m dead.they actually gave you a total stranger such sensitive info without verifying if you are a member of her family?? shows that the problem with naija is just not with the leaders 3 Likes |
