Source: http://tundeola..com/2013/01/how-yaradua-and-jonathan-squandered.html The rate at which political leaders in Nigeria are looting is very shameful: “One cannot but ask what exactly does this level of brazen misappropriation of public resources symbolize? Where did all that money go? Where is the accountability for the use of these resources and the additional several hundred dollars realized from oil sale by the two administrations that have governed our nation in the last five years? How were these resources applied or more appropriately misapplied? Tragic choices.” Former Vice President at the World Bank and Minister under the Olusegun Obasanjo-led administration, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has revealed that both the late President Umaru Yar’Adua and his successor, Goodluck Jonathan’s regimes "squandered" $67 billion (about N11 trillion) oil money left in two separate accounts by Obasanjo. Ezekwesili said that the two administrations squandered $45 billion (N7.065 trillion) left in the Foreign Reserve and another $22 billion (about N3.454 trillion) left in the Excess Crude Account, bringing the total amount of money squandered to about $67 billion or N10.619 trillion. She made the revelation while delivering the Convocation Lecture of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN. She noted that Nigerians had lost dignity because of ravaging poverty arising from poor choices of the elite, corruption and lack of investment in 'proper' education. Recalling that Nigeria had enjoyed five cycles of oil boom since independence, Ezekwesili decried the failure by the leadership to convert oil income to renewable assets through the development of human capital and other sectors through investment in foreign assets as other resource-rich countries did with their oil income. Nigeria learnt nothing from past failures The former minister lamented “the squandering of the significant sum of $45billion in foreign reserve account and another $22billion in Excess Crude Account being direct savings from increased earnings from oil that the Obasanjo administration handed over to the successor government in 2007." She said, “Six years after the administration I served handed over such humongous national wealth to another one most Nigerians, but especially the poor, continue to suffer the effects of failing public health and education systems as well as decrepit infrastructure and battered institutions."

Source: http://datewithease..com/2013/01/dating-co-workers-office-romance-good.html#more Office romance is fairly common these days as most people practically live at work and have little time for socializing. If a liaison with a coworker is handled well, it can lead to a relationship. If it goes seriously wrong, it can lead to job loss or a lawsuit for harassment... It is not surprising that temptation lurks within the office environment. After all we spend one third of our time (at least) performing business-related activities. In the last two decades many companies have tired to ban dating among their employees, with the ultimate result that many lusty, yet great employees turned into sneaks and liars. Even though office romances are probably inevitable, they are loaded with very serious financial, social, career and emotional risks for both the employees and employer. There are a couple of myths about office romances that need to be debunked. First of all, the tradition of bosses having flings with their secretaries seems to have been flung out of the window. Contrary to popular belief, women are less at the mercy of the sexual attentions of their bosses then ever before. Very often, office romances now take place between colleagues as well as female bosses and their underlings. Although Nigerians have been socialized into seeing relationships as being separate from career, the fact is that in today's corporate driven society that the office is becoming a likely and obvious place for people to meet prospective partners. If you haven't linked up with a partner during your college or university years, meeting someone at the office may be one of few romantic options. However just because inter-office dating is becoming just as common as inter-office memos it does not mean that it is a good idea. Having an affair in the office is comparable to be stuck in a small town, complete with office gossips, back-stabbers and people who want to hurt your reputation in order to acquire your credibility and business. If you do decide that you want to embark on an office romance, then there are a few things you might want to consider. First of all you might want to consider why you are doing this at all. Is it because you love this person or because you are bored at the office? Are you a secret drama queen looking for ways to liven up long dull days in front of the computer? Is it lust, love or both? If possible it is highly recommended that you have a discussion with your potential romantic partner to see if you are both on the same page. If he is looking for a fling and she is hearing wedding bells there could be big trouble ahead for both of you at work. Someone is probably going to get hurt. Decide TOGETHER in advance whether or not your little romantic experience is going to lead to torture at the office if you end up having to work together as ex-partners. It is helpful to imagine the worst case scenario: your relationship doesn't work out and your ex is going out with someone else who either frequents the office or works there as well. Can you handle it, or would you have to quit? If your response is the latter, it may not be worth going through with the affair. Another thing to consider is your company's policies regarding inter-office romances. What is the atmosphere like? What are the official rules of behavior and the unofficial codes of conduct? Consider the reactions of your employees, co-workers or boss should your affair be discovered. Is it going to be worth it? Or are you going to set yourself up as the object of an ongoing subtle, yet damning sense of disapproval that could blight your career for years. If you do decide to have a romance, the best thing you can do is conduct yourself in a very formal, efficient and business-like manner in the work place. Save drama, squabbles, baby talk and public displays of affection for the outside world. It is also advised, in order for the relationship to thrive outside the office, that the two of you don't bring your "work" home with you by discussing it endlessly. Talking about what went on in the boardroom that day is no substitute for genuine pillow talk. Before you embark on an office romance you might want to check out what your boss might be unofficially thinking about it even if your company does not have rules about inter-office relationships. High-profile romances, including that famous one in the Oval Office, have focused national attention on issues of sex and privacy in the workplace. President Clinton first responded to allegations of an affair with Monica Lewinsky with indignant denials. Even after he admitted to a relationship that was "not appropriate" and "wrong," Clinton insisted that the whole affair was a private matter between him and his family. An individual's privacy is protected by various laws and regulations, but as agencies, like private companies, find themselves paying huge settlements for sexual harassment and sex discrimination claims. Many are a direct result of office romances gone wrong. This is why your boss may officially or unofficially believe that he or she has the right to establish rules and regulations about office relationships. Office romance is not the same as sexual harassment. Romance is about attraction, not putting up with unwanted attentions. Sexual harassment is about power and control. But the line between romance and harassment can become very thin. You should know that a boss who engages in an office romance with an employee can find himself or herself charged with sex discrimination by a boss or fellow employee even if no allegations of harassment are raised by the partner. In most cases, mutually agreeable relationships between employees pose no danger to the company. However, there are instances where they are inappropriate and may be harmful to the company and its interests. Before you decide to pursue your co-worker, you might have to ask yourself, what is more important: your career or emotional interests. Then take educated risks according to how well you and your partner can handle any potential fall-out from the relationship if it suddenly goes sour.

The Catholic Church of Nigeria yesterday temporarily withdrew its membership from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Their reason? That CAN under Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor has been compromised. Also because of some uncouth statements by some Christian leaders, and the use of money in CAN elections and several court cases involving state chapters of CAN. Spokesperson of the Church, Rev. Fr. Dr. Cornelius Omonokhua, said: Read more: Catholic Church of Nigeria withdraws from the Christian Association of Nigeria http://tundeola..com/2013/01/catholic-church-of-nigeria-withdraws.html
