European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Alltime Starting Eleven by afro: 1:27am On Nov 11, 2008
football afficionados! lets hear ur views about ur own alltime starting eleven.PLEASE no insults o! lets just discuss and debate like mature people and i'm sure it will be both entertaining and informative to ALL of us.For me i would have GORDON BANKS in goal; GIACINTO FACCHETTI as rightback; PAOLO MALDINI as leftback; BOBBY MOORE as stopper; GAETANO SCIREA as sweeper/libero; FRANZ BECKENBAUER as defensive midfielder; ALFREDO DI STEFANO as offensive midfielder/playmaker; GEORGE BEST as left winger; GARRINCHA as right winger; MARADONA as support striker and PELE as top striker. of course der kaiser should have been the logical choice for libero BUT because of his exceptional leadership skills, outstanding playmaking ability from deep and because there is a worthy replacement in scirea he has been moved to marshal the midfield with the "golden arrow" di stefano.    my BENCH has LEV YASHIN,PAUL BREITNER,FRANCO BARESI,BRYAN ROBSON,ZIDANE,JOHAN CRYUFF and GERD MULLER. for a team with such playmaking talent there is a need for

someone whose job is just finishing, the fox in the box! and that person in this squad is the incomparable gerd muller(my super sub). wat do u guys think?

Sports / Re: The Era Of Solid Defenders Is Ending by afro: 3:54pm On Feb 26, 2006
it's true the era of hard defenders is coming to an end.now what is more important is how good the defender is with the ball rather than without the ball. it should not be viewed as change in quality, rather it is a change in style and attitude.these days football is more like "total football" with attackers that mark well and defenders that shoot well too.defending these days is more about the tactics of the whole team rather than the technique of an individual defender. that is why we see less goals being scored these days with the so called weaker defenders than in the days of moore, beckenbauer, scirea, and paco gento. P.S @ menike, angry, refrain from insulting people when arguing a point.u may go polemical but never denigrate.if u are really intelligent u will score points and convince people without behaving like a common peasant wink smiley cheesy grin tongue

GROUP H........ these perennial worl cup underacievers have the easiest draw of all the africans.if they do not implode as they usually do i see them qualifying from this group.BUT the tunisians have a way of disappointing at this stage, some say because there europeanstyle of football is tooo well known by their opponents.here they have 2 european opponents so let's keep our fingers crossed
Sports / Re: Germany 2006 World Cup Draw: Fate of African Teams? by afro: 5:32pm On Dec 12, 2005
GROUP G..........many people have written off the togolese but i'm not so sure. anybody who watched france vs senegal in 2002,france vs greece in euro 2004 ,and in their world cup qualifiers against the swiss, irish, and isrealis, knows that the french hate playing against physical teams.coming with an ageing squad and a thierry henry who remains uninspiring in international tournamnents as their focal point, france is beatable and so is switzerland.the south koreans with their pace and stamina are always difficult to handle, but i think this is very open group although i give france and south korea the edge. the achilles heel of the togolese will be their inexperience at this level ,and overdependence on emmanuel adebayor's form .
Sports / Re: Germany 2006 World Cup Draw: Fate of African Teams? by afro: 5:20pm On Dec 12, 2005
GROUP E......... i don't see ghana qualifying from this group ahead of italy and czech republic. the ghanians have few players of proven internatinal quality and more importantly with experience at similar levels to the world cup.they depend too much on michael essien and captain stephen appiah's form for both creativity and goal scoring.they lack world class strikers and the only quality defender is ex captain samuel osei kuffour of AS Roma (if he's recalled).they are a good physical side and could have qualified in a few other groups, but not this one.

GROUP D....angola is going to lose to both portugal and mexico with an outrageous scoreline in the case of portugal.they have nothing to offer the world cup only the presence of usual world cup whipping boys may spare them their blushes.there are 3 possibilities a.0 point from 3 losses b. 1 point from a draw with Iran, c. 3 points from a miraculous victory over iran. mexico and portugal surely going through in this one

GROUP C.....ivory coast are the strongest african qualifiers but are also in the toughest group. i don't see them getting 4 points from this group which is what i think it will take to qualify from this difficult group i.e a win and a draw.BUT with their ever impressive attack of didier drogba, aruna dindane, aruna kone, and bonaventure kalou what they lack is defensive discipline. if kolo toure, cyril domoraud and the rest of the backline can perform averagely well cote d'voire might spring a surprise at the expense of either the argies or the orangemen

yep i know nobody is perfect( although obviously people like vexxie and snazzydawn are closer to the realm of physical perfection than others smiley we should take care of ourselves.many ladies have these flabs and bulging tummies because of their addiction to tantalisers,mr biggs, sweet sensation e.t.c and their phobia for anything that requires physical execise.some would call it laziness.to compound issues they keep wearing these tight and revealing tops that expose their pirelli torso.abeggi call a spade a spade, those flabs are disgusting. i await the missiles with stoic calm.ciao cool

i looove D-etroit!the pistons are a massive defensive machinein tayshun prince the 6"9 forward with 7 footer armspan,Rasheed wallace and the iconic big ben wallace they have the best defensive combination in the league.only the championship spurs can compete.what the pistons have to do is ask for more points from the wallaces on a regular basis and when facing the spurs in the finals, cos rip hamilton and chauncy can't do it alone. and puleeeeze more bench scoring.the pistons and the spurs are still the 2 best teams in the league and will play the finals again.any bets on that?buzz me
Literature / Re: What Shakespeare Book Thrills You Most? by afro: 1:47am On Dec 03, 2005
i've read many of shakespeare's works, but because i love art (be it novels, movies) based on political intrigue my best are julius caesar, hamlet, and macbeth.these 3 works really touched on the viler elements of humanity.or what can be worse than a man assasinating his best friend,a man cuckolding his brother then murdering him, or a man butchering his loving king.

Romance / Re: Where Are All the Good Nigerian/African Men? by afro: 5:25pm On Nov 29, 2005
the same way u've women looking for good guys there are men looking for good babes.so be a good babe and pray that you meet a good guy.you should ask yourself why you attract the wrong ones, are you sending the wrong signals? and like some guy said, race is no factor when it comes to romance or love. what matters is mutual affection, respect, passion and understanding.all i can say is keep looking and you'll be smiling soon.ciao.
