Anambra Guber’ election: Group roots for Don Okonkwo



A socio-cultural group, Federation of Igbo Youths Association (FIYA) Anambra chapter has pledged their support for Prince Donatus Okonkwo as the right candidate to vote for in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election saying, with his impeccable pedigree as a successful business mogul, he will bring the right change and propel Anambra State to an enviable status in Nigeria’s political map.

Don Okonkwo According to the group’s spokesperson Mr. Valentine Igwebuike in a release to media, he reiterated need for Ndi-Anambra to rewrite the perception about Anambra States’ political terrain seen as turbulent by voting en-mass for Don Okonkwo. He said; “Anambra 2017 governorship election is coming with different pictures that will change the wrong perceived impressions about Anambra political behaviour.

This new change is surfacing with the appearance of some rare gems, who are bouncing into the politicking ring of Anambra political contest and one of these political juggernauts is Prince Donatus Okonkwo, a business magnet and philanthropist. Abuja  –   Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has been nominated for the 2017 edition of the Northern Nigeria Peace Awards (NNPA) by an NGO, Peace Ambassador Agency. The Project Director, NNPA, Amb. Kinsley Amafibe, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on recently.

He said that Alhaji Ibrahim Comassie, Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) was also nominated for the award. Other nominees for the award, which would hold on March 31, included Dr Mike Omotosho,Amb. Hussaini Coomasie, a veteran Nollywood actor, Ali Nuhu, Queen Chichi Mbagwu,traditional rulers and other philanthropists. Amafibe said the names were among the list of nominees made available by the organisers of the award, an NGO, Peace Ambassador Agency, that advocates and promotes peace and national unity in Nigeria.

According to him, the Governor of Kano State is to be honoured as the Northern Nigeria Governor of the Year for his efforts at ensuring peace in the state.
He noted that Kano was “very strategic in the North, and its peace or otherwise can affect other states in the region in one way or the other.’’ The project director explained that the awards which cuts across over 20 categories, would be given to selected nominees for their contributions to peace building and development in the North, especially in recent times.

Amafibe explained that although there were a lot of patriotic men and women who have contributed meaningfully in the peace building project in the North, it was imperative to honour ‘outstanding’ ones. According to him, there are some Nigerians also listed for the awards, who are not from the North by birth. He, however, noted that they have contributed in one way or the other, in the spirit of a united Nigeria, toward the peace and development of the region. “You must not come from the Northern part of the country to be recognised for this honour. “If your investments or humanitarian works tell of you as an agent of peace are centred on the North, and you have the interest of the region at heart.”

He explained that Dr Olakunle Churchill, of the Big Church Foundation and Mr Obinna Iyiegbu, Chairman of Cubana Group of Companies were listed to be honoured in that category. According to Amafibe, the 2017 edition of the award will feature a summit with the theme: “Promoting Peace, Education and Economic Development in Northern Nigeria.”. The nomination of Big Church Foundation was necessary because of their overwhelming and fearless charity involvement during the southern Kaduna crisis at the dreaded KADA River Massacre where lives were saved and large quality of food stuffs were taken to the displaced and wounded people. ‎Also sighted was the foundation role in help northern indegenes especially footing the house rent bills of an orphanage.

He added that insurgency, religious intolerance and other vices threatening peace in the region would be discussed at the summit. “We must do everything collectively to ensure lasting peace in the North because no meaningful development can take place where there is no peace,” he added

The event is scheduled to hold tomorrow at the Commodore Suites, Wuse 2 in the Federal Capital Territory.

It is no longer news that Tonto Dikeh and her estranged husband Olakunle Churchill are going through a bitter separation. Allegations of cheating, deceit and especially domestic violence have been making the rounds with the actress reportedly revealing marks and scars from the alleged beatings on social media.

It has however been revealed by a close reliable source that the actress has been engaging the services of a special effects make-up artiste to create the alleged red eye, marks and scars to vilify her husband.

The alleged beating episode that caused the red marks on her face, body and neck, supposedly happened on the 20th of December 2016 in her mother-in-law's house where she pushed her husband's mother down the stairs and destroyed valuables in the house.
A family source revealed that her husband did not lay a finger on her before, during and after the incident. It  is worth noting that the actress attended her foundation's road project three days after the incident, looking fresh faced, with no marks or scars in sight. How can a battered woman look flawless and energetic barely three days after an alleged  beating?
