EducationRe: Apply For 2023/2024 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by AfroGig: 6:07pm On Sep 12, 2023
There would definitely be an induction where all relevant questions will be answered. Congrats once again.
darneals:
I was awarded a PhD in an institution in Malaysia. What's the next step? What are the few things we need to be cautious about(visa, admission and any other thing.)

Will there be orientation program soon?
Can you help answer these questions?

You bring original documents for screening. The only photocopies will be the email invite letter, portal slip and personal statement or Research proposal as applicable.
BRAINNY:
Hello all, do we need to make photocopies of our documents? Please those who interviewed last year especially those in the Ibadan centre, your responses are highly appreciated.

On point. The scoring system is updated annually based on panel recommendation. For instance, awards was a big deal prior to 2020, but got scrapped in favour of membership. A panelist also confirmed the change in the grading system from last year template to me earlier this week. However, what majority of applicants keep forgetting altogether is that the panelist are only there to assess just like a company would contract a third party company to screen potential job applicants. PTDF will do the final selection of who gets the scholarship and other factors such as gender, research area etc will come into play. For example, PTDF will limit the number of people going for Oil and Gas law in the UK just as much as they would like to have a balance in the ratio of males to females in each study region. Granted. I am not saying panel recommendation doesn't count nor saying the grading is irrelevant, but one should keep in mine that they are other inter related factors that could truncate your chances despite getting a high score from your region. Its never been a more appropriate time to have your first name as Goodluck.
FatimaMK:
The marking template I shared was for PhD in 2018, and I said they may decide to change it. Because some changes are made to the scoring template almost every year.
O-level marks for Msc was 30 in same 2018. I actually don't know the marking template for 2020 and this year as well.
May we be successful at the end.

You guys should take it easy with our local champions. F.G has withheld salaries since march.
mrphysics:
Yes bro. I was in the Tower yesterday.

I just dread Nigerian lecturers in whatever form they come except those that have an open mind or who knows what lecturing or teaching ought to be. The things I was mentioning to him is being done in South Africa, Indonesia, etc. Its not even like I was saying things that isn't real or being done.

The Prof. was just being destructive and vengeful yesterday. Things he ought to know which he doesn't know was what got me mad.

I beg to differ. While it is true there is always an element of luck in the process. I would argue another fundamental deciding factor is the field/area of study. Empirically, PTDF prioritise STEM (science, technology, engineering, and medicine/mathematics) as opposed to the NON-STEM (Humanities, Arts, Literature and Management). Ideally, you should have reservation if your applying for Non-Stem field irrespective of the number of publications or professional membership you possess.
kolladey:
Bros, you applied to get this scholarship and not to stop midway of the process.
Yes, PTDF is very competitive, that is undiluted fact, but With God, all things are possible.
Sir, do you know that some people have publications and also member of a professional body and yet they didn't make it to this interview stage.
Pls, keep the fire burning. Once again, keep trusting God.
I wish you guys outstanding success.

The release of interview results will largely depend on the pandemic outlook in the Scholarship destinations chosen by PTDF. Expect another one year of hiatus if things continue to go south in those countries.
vantage7:
If not by the end of this week, then not later than next week. It used to take much longer than 3-4 weeks after the interviews for the list to be out, but because they most likely have concluded MSc selection since a long time ago and only have PhD list to compile, they can manage it in 3-4 weeks. And this is July, time is running out for September entry so they would try and hurry. 2018 list came out in July. 2019 list came out in June.

Imagine how annoying it wud be if u spend money on air ticket to Nigeria for the interview, only to learn upon arrival it could be done virtually from abroad.
yakbauer:
Yes, Abuja office is the only venue still conducting interviews. A friend just did his today and another will be doing his tomorrow. They had to Conduct virtual interviews for candidates abroad who could not make it due to travel restrictions.

ExpertNLer:
LOL the PhDs have had it tough.
Shouldn't come as a surprise. The panelist for the PHD are much more prepared and experienced (mostly academic professors) this time. I think PTDF learned a lot from previous years as you could tell right from the new upgraded portal system. However, at the base level, its still going to be a highly subjective experience (determined mostly by your proposal), a handful of luck and some drops of blessing along the way. You may think you were the best at one centre only to be truncated by other candidates in other centres from your state. But hey, there has never been shortage of miracles in Nigeria!

I digress....

The course you are applying for mostly, which audience are you more confident in defending the reason for studying the course to?
Its more about relevance than convenience. For instance, someone undertaking studies in renewables fits the broad field of environment, someone for fluid dynamics or process control fits Engineering field, someone for network security fits the computer science field and someone for law fits the management field.

I have a paper to publish, please anyone knows a free journal that can publish before 31 December?
I hope you haven't submitted your paper to any of the journals hosted by ISROSET. I will spare you the details, but it meets several criteria to qualify as a predatory publisher. Its something you will come to identify with experience in research and publication. If you are a novice researcher, my advice to you is to only submit to journals hosted by known physical existing universities be it national or international. As you become more experienced, you can go for top ranking journals in your fields whom are typically very critical in their peer review (6-24months) before accepting publications.

please can any PhD candidate who did his or her interview in Abuja center tell us how many minutes was allocated for presentation and did he or she submitted an employment letter?
It took approximately 20 minutes along with Q & A. No employment letter.
