Christianity EtcRape Accusations: Why Report Years Later Not When It Occurred? by Afroreporter(op): 9:50am On Jun 30, 2019
The most common questions people ask about all these rape allegations is " why now? Why didn't she speak up earlier?"
If you are asking because you actually want to understand why rape victims wait for years and not because you are defending the rapist here's a brief explanation: Courage
There are far too many very good reasons why rape victims need to keep quiet and only three reasons why they should speak up.
Reasons to speak up
1. Get some justice for yourself (selfish)
2. Encourage other victims to step forward (selfless)
3. Prevent future occurrence to some extent (selfless)
Reasons not to speak up
1. Shame and embarrassment
2. Stigma: That's the girl that was raped.
3. Shock and Denial: if I ignore it will go away
4. Not everyone will believe you
5. Fear of the power and influence of your rapist
6. Acceptance: it has happened. Reporting won't change it
7. if you're a "nobody" raped by a "somebody" just forget it
8. If you're raped by a family reporting it will destroy a lot of relationships
9. Let's face it the justice system here is rubbish
10. All rape victims blame themselves first. It's not their fault but they can't help

I could go on but my point is, it takes courage to step forward and courage takes time to build. There's actually almost no good reason to report your rapist in Nigeria. It's not like they pay you for damages and emotional trauma like they do in other countries. Stepping up is almost a selfless service in this country.
CelebritiesRe: LINDA IKEJI'S Open Letter To Theo Ukpaa [must Read] by Afroreporter: 2:36pm On Sep 07, 2018
I usually don't make decisions before hearing from both sides. I didn't fully believe the lady but after hearing from the accused rapist, I'm sure he did it. I knew he was lying when started his defence by telling us how he volunteered at children's whatever. Now Linda just confirmed my thoughts.

FamilyDear Mothers....about Your Daughter's Hair by Afroreporter(op): 8:44am On Aug 13, 2018
I just saw a post on tundednut's Instagram page where a little girl was crying her eyes out in pains while her hair was getting done. You can hear the agony and know that she wasn't just being a brat. He asked if it was that painful and a lot of girls replied that "kids can be dramatic and annoying."
I'll say this on behalf of those annoying kids;

All Scalps are not the same.

Some people have really tender and sensitive scalp and no matter how gentle you are with their hair, it would hurt. There pain threshold is not lower than normal since they probably "chest " when you flog them but touch their head and it a different story.

That video brought back so many bad memories for me and now I'm wondering if it was even worth it. Nobody understood. It was always " look at your sister, see how quiet she is. Just shut up!"

Kids should cry when they are sad or being punished for bad behaviour and not when they are trying to look cute. "Beauty is pain" shouldn't apply to 7 year olds. It's not yet that serious.
As an adult, my scalp still hurt until 2 years ago when I went natural and started doing my hair by myself. Now I look back and wonder how I was able stand it as a kid when even as an adult my scalp would hurt if people touched it.
What to do?
Spray her hair with water anytime you want to work on it and use a leave in conditioner. Hairdressers may not want to do wet hair in Nigeria but talk to them.

Please wet her hair
She's not being dramatic
She's actually in pains
you just don't understand

CelebritiesRe: Oyemykke Slams Noble Igwe For Snitching On Fraudsters by Afroreporter: 1:15pm On May 12, 2018
Snitch is a word used by black Americans to glorify cowardice. You have a criminal in your community who you are too afraid to expose stealing from you, shooting up the neighbourhood and engaging in drug related crimes but you justify your silence by claiming not to be a snitch. Which other communities apart from that of the African Americans glorify this self destructive culture?

We are Africans. If you are brave enough to expose crimes while putting your safety at risk, all we can do is applaud you.
Noble igwe, we thank you very much!!!

Looking at the comments above I feel only sadness and despair for this country. They say the government is a reflection of the citizens. So anytime you are tempted to blame the evil politicians, just take a minute to log on to nairaland and see the evil in our people.

I noticed that terrorist attacks on gays is mostly carried out by closet gays in self denial. Normal people don't care what others do as long as they are not harming anyone.
