Poems For Review › Re: My Kind by AfroSamurai: 3:33am On Dec 13, 2017 |
Queeneetah: My kind seem like we are worthless, We are mistakes from creation and we are useless; A man's world they say, then why need a woman to make it complete and even better; Construct transactional love of trade by barter;
Opportunistic Men everywhere afterwards they refer to my kind as materialistic, 'cause that's how my kind understand her existence In disregard to her womanhood and refer it as realistic; But my kind we are rising in her outward Prudence;
With great understanding of whatever my kind is given she multiplies; Yes my kind is worthless because you can't price or quantify her worth, Yes she's invaluable and beyond calculable or appraisable value with inestimable worth My Kind, We are PRICELESS. By_Queeneetah Nice poem. You speak of oppression from the male folk. But, why do I detect a hint of feminism in your poem? 2 Likes |

Spasmic: Why are you straw-manning my argument? You conveniently ignored the strong points I raised about my comparison between non-fiction and fiction in terms of the educative and intellectual value and you focused on an earlier point I raised about romance section.
Yes, I'll still prefer reading romance section over literature section. It doesn't mean that romance section is vast terrain of intellectual nourishment or a section I'd recommended for someone who wants to broaden his perspective and explore novel ideas. No. But when you juxtapose it with literature section, I'll choose it over literature section because at least I get informed about relationship issues through interesting discussion and reading about real stories of real people, and I also get introduced to informative blogs. And remember there is also a sexuality section within romance section where one can expand his knowledge of sexual subjects. There is a lot of benefit in this.
Reading poems on literature section doesn't add any value to my life, sorry. since its a personal opinion, i'm not going to debate it with you. I for one know tens of people who have gained positive from nairaland's literature/poem for review section. I'm a living testament. 1 Like |

Spasmic: Browsing sections like romance provides more informative value than literature section. In the midst of all the trolling and trivial discussions, there is still a lot of useful information disseminated through articles and blog posts. Maybe you should have used a better juxtaposition. There is nothing of value in reading books on literature section. Most of the writers there are uncreative and just waste time doling out mediocre stories that contain the plots of already successful books. Reading stories on literature section adds no value to my intellectual experience. It doesn't open up my mind to new ways of thinking, it doesn't broaden my knowledge of the world, it doesn't introduce me to the real stories of real people, and it doesn't contain any profound philosophical theme that's worth pondering. I suppose reading stories on Romance section add value to you and give you more information, also broaden your knowledge of the world? Wow. I hope you know when I mentioned Literature section, I wasn't just talking about literature section alone, but also Poems For Review section. Now, if you want value, try that section and see for yourself. 1 Like |

Actually, nigerians read. If nigerians don't read people like Linda Ikeji, Seun and the rest of them won't be millionaires today.
The trick is, nigerians don't read the kind of literature that adds value to them. A cursory look at this fact is using Nairaland's literature section as an example. The amount of traffic it generate is far below what other section like Romance (usually fool of horsesh1t) generate.
So, before there will be what the OP is asking, we nigerians have to re-orientate our minds. 14 Likes 1 Share |
