Q: Dear Mimmysays,

My girlfriend of a whole year who I really love, has done something very very suspicious and it has been disturbing my mind. I actually thought that she would be the one for me but after this act, I don’t think I still feel the same way.

Last week, my girlfriend who has been asking me if we are ever going to set a date to meet her people, came from gwagwalada to visit me. From the friday she came, I noticed a change in her attitude and demeanour. I kept asking her what was wrong but she wouldn’t say. She acted aloof and cold till sunday morning. I asked her to wake up and get ready for church but she declined and said she felt weak. After a while she got up and made breakfast and then I started playing with her and she was laughing.

After about 3o minutes, while we were watching a movie she suddenly went quiet and forcefully took the remote control for the DSTV and threw it on the far end of the room and turned to me, looking me in the eye, said, “Go and Pick up that remote and bring it to me NOW!!!!” …… I stared at her in shock for some seconds, she repeated it again, this time, through clenched teeth, “NOW”!!!! I slapped her mouth and told her to get out of my room and pick her bags and leave my apartment immediately. My friend that came around tried to ask what was wrong and begged me but I refused. She started crying and told me sorry. My heart softened and I gave her 2ok. To my shock again, she took the money, threw it on the floor and said, pick up the money and give it to me. That was when I forcibly shoved her out of the house minus the money and slammed my door. She has been calling me but I haven’t picked.

Currently, Buhari who became alive on 22 December, 2014 on twitter is leading Goodluck, who has been for a while, with higher number of followers. I had to share this because I believe it is good news for Buhari because the Current government has created lots of news for him particularly in recent week concerning his certificate or no certificate. POVERTY DEY WORRY U ALL, ANTI-BUHARI CRITIQUES. It is not a big deal to have children abroad. I know uneducated & illiterate people with children abroad. So don't hate just because you are not opportuned to be there. My dad is a retiree yet my younger ones are in private universities. How can a former president not send his children abroad, bear in mind he still have some benefactors who can still rally round for him. However traveling to the UK is not costlier than traveling to the MARS!

On Wednesday, Twitter users started posting pictures of a mislabeled map that was broadcast by CNN. The network, attempting to portray the countries that had cases of Ebola, had mistaken Niger for Nigeria:

The confusion provoked angry reactions from many Twitter users. It would not be the first time CNN has mapped cities or countries far away from their actual position, however:

As you can see, CNN has mapping issues not only in Africa, but also in Europe and Asia. And it's far from the only news outlet to make such an error. Earlier this year, NBC News anchor Brian Williams began his broadcast by saying: “Tonight it now feels as if the world is aware and responding to the kidnapping of 276 girls in Kenya three weeks ago today." In reality, the kidnappings had taken place in Nigeria.

The pressures of live television make mistakes like these understandable. However, many Twitter users seem to perceive the recent Nigeria-Niger confusion as just another example of ignorance by Western media outlets. Other examples are easy to come by. In 2010, a BBC series on Nigeria's most populous city, Lagos, featuring the lives of slum dwellers, drew criticism for its potrayal of the city, which many felt was not accurate. One year later, international media came under attack on Twitter during the Somalia famine for showing up only "when there were dying children to film," according to Reuters.

In an article for the Guardian published in 2013, Nigerian journalist Remi Adekoya offered an explanation for why some have such strong feelings about how journalists cover the continent: "Africans, especially those living abroad, fret about the perception of their continent and its inhabitants because their future often depends on the opinions of those in whose country they reside," Adekoya wrote. "Each major news item presenting Africa in a negative light is viewed by these folk as something that will make their working lives that bit harder."

While CNN's on-air mislabeling sparked a major backlash on Twitter, many Americans might not have noticed the flawed map. On Friday, in honor of the U.S.-African Leaders Summit taking place in D.C. this week, The Washington Post published a quiz that asked readers to find countries from the African continent on a map.

According to data from more than 40,000 respondents, the countries were identified correctly less than half of the time. Although Niger and Nigeria did not rank among the least-recognized countries (those would be Gambia and Guinea-Bissau), they were correctly identified only by 43 percent and 48 percent, respectively.

One of the doctors who attended to Liberian Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, the man credited with bringing Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) to Nigeria has contracted the virus.

Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, has just confirmed that one of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian, who recently died of Ebola in Nigeria, is now sick with the disease.

Chukwu said two other people placed under quarantine were showing signs of the disease, although it is too early to say if their symptoms relates to Ebola.

Sawyer was Nigeria’s first case of Ebola death two weeks ago, and since his demise there have been widespread fears that some of the more than 70 people he had contact with also develop the virus.
