yea, that's what I use and bbm keeps working when I switch to mobile data, the only thing is if my battery goes out, by the time I charge my phone the problem starts again

i use etisalat, this is what you should do; connect to a WiFi network, once ur bbm starts working browse for a couple of minutes and then switch back to mobile network, bbm will remain connected as long as your phone doesn't go off. its how I've been managing
