The All Progressives Congress (APC) has admitted that the November 26th, 2016 governorship election in Ondo state would be a “tough and difficult” horse race between the party and the major contenders in the state. John Odigie-Oyegun, the embattled National Chairman of the APC, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja. Mr. Odigie-Oyegun said like the Edo state governorship election that was difficult for the party, the election in Ondo state would also not be a walkover for the opposition APC. “In Edo, it was difficult and not a walk-over; it was a tough election and a difficult election. “This also will not be a walkover. It will be a tough and difficult election, but we will win”, he noted. He spoke after inaugurating a 49-member Campaign Committee of the party for the Ondo governorship poll. The Campaign Committee is head by Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state according to a party document seen by Saharareporters. The party document also nominated the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Lasun, to lead the committee with nine other governors and federal ministers. Odigie-Oyegun said the Committee should be prepared for a big challenge of delivering the state to the APC. “The challenge I am passing on to you today is the obvious challenge that arose at the primary. “But, I trust that you and your team will overcome those difficulties and deliver Ondo to the APC family,” he said. He added that the intrigues that arose after the September 3rd, 2016 governorship primary election has made it difficult for the party to progress. “Otherwise, Ondo state is ripe for the taking and ripe to be added to the APC progressive family.” “At the higher level, we are already doing things to bring the contending interests together and restore Ondo state to the progressive family. ”We want the people of Ondo state to know that the day of redemption has come and by the grace of God, we shall triumph.” Mr. Odigie-Oyegun stated further. He also explained that the leaders of the party deliberately enlarge the Committee due to the time frame for campaigns. “It was made so that it will be possible to handle well the various activities that need to be undertaken,” In accepting the assignment, Gov. Lalong promised that the committee would secure victory for the opposition party in Ondo state. He said the committee would also work towards reuniting all aggrieved leaders especially Ahmed Bola Tinubu and members of the party before the governorship election in the state. “Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) is a national leader; he is a key factor to the government both in Nigeria and the party. ”When we talk about reconciliation even if he was not involved, wherever you are going to talk about reconciliation, you must consider him as a factor in the election. ”What we are talking about is that all hands must be on deck, not one person; everybody must be involved just like they did in Edo. ”We were all involved that was how we won Edo. In this case, we see the same thing happening. ”At the end of the day, it’s the interest of the party and the interest of the nation. All of them will come,” he said. Rotimi Akeredolu, the governorship candidate of the party who addressed newsmen at the end of the inauguration said the APC remains the party to beat in the election. Akeredolu added that he was not threatened by the protest that greeted his emergence and the defection of Mr. Olusola Oke from the party to the Alliance for Democracy party. http://saharareporters.com/2016/10/13/apc-ondo-governorship-election-won%E2%80%99t-be-walkover-john-oyegun

The Federal Government has promised to take care of the education of the 21 freed Chibok schoolgirls and provide jobs for them. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made the promise yesterday when he visited the girls at the DSS medical centre situated along the Airport Road, Abuja. The spokesman of the vice president, Laolu Akande, quoted his boss as assuring the freed girls: “We are going to see to it that everything that you require going forward, perhaps, your education; those who need to go back to school, those who need to find employment, we are going to make sure that we make all the provisions for you. “The Federal Government is very committed. The president, in particular, has asked me to tell you how excited he is. When you were away, he kept saying that if it were his daughter, he wouldn’t even know what to do. So, we are all very excited that you are here. We are all happy that God has preserved your lives and brought you back. “I’m sure you know the whole country has been waiting for you to come back all these many months, the whole country has been waiting that one day, we’ll see you again and we’re very happy to see you back. We’re going to bring your parents; your parents will be coming here to join you. You can’t immediately be taken out of here because we need to be sure you’re in very good health. I’m sure you’re going to be very well taken care of. We’ve provided very good accommodation for you where you’ll stay, where you’ll sleep and your parents will come and meet you there also hopefully by tomorrow.” Meanwhile, Osinbajo last night told State House reporters that “There was no exchange of any kind. There was no swap of any kind. Even when we started negotiations, we said we will consider all options available to us. Absolutely, there was no exchange of any kind.” Asked if swap would be used in rescuing other girls in captivity, the vice president said in the next few days or months, the government would use the same kind of negotiation and template used in rescuing the 21 that were freed yesterday to free more of them. Osinbajo, however, emphasised that the government would look at all options and weigh them carefully before deciding what to do. The vice president disclosed that one of the 21 freed girls had a baby, stressing that “She is the only one.” On whether the Red Cross was involved in the rescue of the 21 girls, Osinbajo explained that the body was not involved in the negotiation process but was involved in “taking the girls back”. According to the vice president, that was because the government was unable to take its own medical team. Osinbajo said: The Swiss government worked with us in the process of negotiation, but the Red Cross was not involved in the negotiation. But in taking the girls back, of course, we worked with the Red Cross because we were unable to take our own medical team. The Red Cross was not involved at all in the process of negotiation. It was the Swiss government, our own officials: the DSS, intelligence and the military that were involved.” Read more at http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/fg-promises-chibok-girls-scholarship-jobs/166745.html#4ZCCi5lAHk27U0pS.99

There are certain views and prejudices which stand between many people and a full knowledge of Jesus Christ and a true joy of salvation. Certain views and prejudices create fixed ideas and limits which make it impossible to obtain this knowledge and joy. For some people everything must fit into these limits or else be left outside. This charge is frequently brought against religious people. Religious people are frequently charged with being narrow-minded and having a fixed outlook and non flexible. Examples of this charge include: Religious persons: 1. A man who claims his religion is the only true religion. 2. A man who claims he has full revelation and unless you agree with and accept all his doctrines you are wrong. Non-religious persons: 1. A man who says all forms of religion are wrong. For the non-religious, religion is only meant to apply to a certain type of person. Many non-religious people recognize religion as something that does some type of people good. They feel it is all right for some, but they don't feel they are the type. They say religion is not appealing to them, but fail to realize this is true because they have not given religion a chance. Their outlook is cramped and confined and their view of the Truth is that it is something which can be fitted into their mind, instead of something their mind needs to absorb and be fitted to. These narrow-minded views result in not understanding the mysteries of life and the things which make life worth living. These narrow-minded views result in the inability to find true fellowship with one another. The view Christ came to teach: Christ taught that we are the same and there are no barriers. He came to banish and break down divisions whether religious or non-religious. He came to proclaim that all men and women are one in nature and have one great need, a true knowledge of God. Christ constantly referred to God as Father in order to stress this. The first move on the road to being a Christian is to stop being a social, moral, or intellectual snob. The way to obtain salvation is to realize the need for it and to seek it. This is the theme of the New Testament: the humble find salvation, but the proud and arrogant ever remain on the outside. The people who consider themselves in a special and particular position never find happiness, for God does not legislate for special cases, but for mankind. He provided a Savior for the world in His Son. It is therefore our own responsibility if we consider ourselves to such exceptional people that a world-Savior does not include us. The story of Jesus speaking to the Samaritans recorded in John 4:41,42 illustrates these truths and the working out of this idea. And many more believed because of his own word; And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard [him] ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world. This story reveals the power of God and the Gospel. However, there is a casual element in the story. It shows us the great possibilities that are in life for all of us if we just take advantage of them. Nothing could be quite as casual as the chance meeting of Jesus and this woman. They just happened to meet and talk about a drink of water. From their conversation came the salvation of the woman and a large number of people from her town. This is the very essence of the Gospel; that there are infinite possibilities which are present in the most unlikely circumstances. That is how the Gospel is spread. Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets have intensified assaults on Boko Haram locations in the Sambisa Forest, Air Force spokesman, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, said yesterday. Famuyiwa said in a statement that the NAF in the past week successfully struck a number of Boko Haram locations, including their logistics bases in the forest. He added that air interdiction missions were continuously conducted with a combination of combat platforms comprising F-7Ni fighter aircraft, Alpha jets and Mi-24V helicopter gunship. He said the latest air strikes against the Boko Haram were fallouts of the Operation Forest Storm launched by the NAF on October 2 to further degrade the capability of the militants within the forest. He added that the strikes were to create the enabling environment for ground forces to continue their operation. He said from Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), it appeared the insurgents were low on logistics as there was indication of vehicular movement. He said a Battle Damage Assessment showed that the entire operation was a success as a number of the insurgents were killed. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned one Johnson Babatola before Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ado- Ekiti, Ekiti State, on a 7-count charge bordering on Advance fee fraud and operation of illegal polytechnic in the state. He, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him at the court premises yesterday. Babatola, a former Principal Manager of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Ado-Ekiti branch was arrested following a petition from the National Board for Technical Education, Kaduna, alleging that he was operating an illegal polytechnic with name Teedek Polytechnic at Ilogbo, Ekiti State and extorting gullible students who are not aware of the status of the institution. One of the counts reads, "that you John Babatola sometime between the month of August, 2013 and March 2015 at Ilogbo Ekiti within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud obtained the sum of N118,000.00 (One Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Naira) from Adakeja Thomas Olusola, when you falsely represented that the money represented tuition fees towards the award of National Diploma Certificate by Teedek Polytechnic and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006". In view of his plea, the defence counsel, Clatus Nachata made an oral application for bail to the court which the prosecution counsel, Sanusi Musa Galadanchi opposed and asked for a trial date. After listening to the arguments of both counsel, Justice Taiwo granted the accused bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum. According to the judge, one of the sureties must be the traditional ruler of Ilogbo-Ekiti, while the second surety must be one of the sureties during the administrative bail earlier granted him by the EFCC. The judge further said that both sureties shall depose to an affidavit of means. The accused person shall deposit his international passport with the court. The judge however ordered that the accused person be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions. Minna—Niger State government has said that it would no longer pay examination fees of students in public schools due to the continued mass failure in both WAEC and NECO examinations. WAEC “Instead of throwing away N800 million on examination fees without any corresponding results, this same money could as well be chanelled to renovation of schools, provision of learning equipment and rehabilitation of teachers’ quarters to make them more comfortable to put in their best in teaching.” The governor, who admitted that the state was still owing both WAEC and NECO N500 million for the last examinations, however, assured the students affected that the debt would soon be settled and their results released.
