With the draws out for the final rounds of South Africa 2010 qualifiers, It's time to suggest (as fans) those players that must feature prominently for Nigeria to qualify. Nothing must be left to chance otherwise the Angolan treatment will be given to us again. No experimentation with players and venues. Goalkeepers Dele Aiyenugba Austin Ejide Vincent Enyeama Ambrose Vanzeiken Defenders Chidi Odiah Taye Taiwo Olubayo Adefemi (this guy is one solid right back that Nigerian handlers have overlooked for unknown reasons. Was indespensible during Holland 2005 world youth championship and yet exhibited great defending ability during the last Olympics) Dele Adeleye (Another Olympic and Holland 2005 star defender: Cool, calculating, skillful, tall and strong. Easily Nigeria's best defender during the Olympics. Solomon Kalou will not forget him easily for policing him in the quarter final) Onyekachi Apam: Workaholic Nigerian defender. Tough but sometimes rough. Performs excellently when paired with Adeleye. Another super defender. Joseph Yobo: The Nigerian vice captain remains an authority in the heart of Nigerian defence. Though declining slightly in productivity in the past few weeks, his experience will continue to be a great asset for the Super Eagles Danny Shittu: The big and strong Bolton man needs to sharpen his skills to be a perfect fit in the Eagles' defense. His aerial prowess as well as premiership experience stands him out as one defender Nigeria can not afford to miss. Obinna Nwanneri ![]() MIDFIELDERS Mikel Obi: Simply the best Nigerian midfielder of the moment Kalu Uche: Has exhibited great composure, skills and brilliance for Nigeria. Needs to play regularly. Sanni Kaita: Another Olympic man. Always willing to give his best. Played an outstanding role in the Olympic team just as he did in Holland three years ago. Has a bright future in the eagles. Must avoid holding and caresing the ball for too long as he did agianst USA in the Olympics Yusuf Ayila: Femi Ajilore Christian Obodo Seyi Olofinjana: must raise the level of his midfield play. More creativity needed. Age is indeed telling on this university graduate FORWARD: Nigeria's forward line seems to be the most potent considering the avalanche of in-form strikers Ikechukwu Uche: Fast becoming Super Eagles talisman. This petit striker has made the absence Obafemi Martins not heavily felt as he continued to score vital goals for the Eagles. A sure bet for 2010 Obinna Nsofor: Presently the hottest Nigerian striker in Europe. Another sure bet. Can, in combination with Ike Uche, Osaze and Chinedu Obasi destroy any team in the world. Chinedu Obasi Peter Odenwigie Yakubu Aiyegbeni Kanu Nwankwo John Utaka Who did I leave out ? Tell us your views. |

Good reasoning dayokanu !. Nigerians simply do not know what they want. As far as I am concerned, the super Eagles played great games against CIV and Ghana. But for the momentary loss of concentration in defence, Nigeria would not have lost. Everybody is shouting sack berti but I tell you if Nigeria had played exactly the same way and won, Nigerians would have been singing Berti's praises as the most tactical coach in the whole wide world. If Nigeria eventually sacks Berti we will end up spending months debating on who the next coach will be. We have moved from foreign to local to foreign to local, Nigerians must not continue to deceive themselves about the competence of the our local coaches. They lack the organisational ability as well as the respect to do the job. Let's hope that Berti is given the opportunity to carry on instead of this shadow chasing |

Worst outing indeed. Did you watch the game or is it becuase they lost ? |
Due to popular request, avail yourself the opportunity to watch ACN 2008 in the US. Go to http://www.themainbowl.com/ or straight to http://www.themainbowl.com/Tv%20schedules.html for the comprehensive online and TV scheduling for the event. We have less than 48 hours to go. Don't be left out. |
We should only be concerned about the form of the players and not necessarily the division they play in. Egypt won the 2006 Nations cup with more than 60% home based players-Ahly National. How many foreign based professional won the cup for Tunisia in 2004. It's all about team work, character, determination, hunger and luck. Nigeria stands a chance just like Ghana, Cote d'ivoire and others to win the cup in Ghana. Watch the tapes of Nigeria Vs Cote d'ivoire in 2006 and you will discover that but for the second half defensive blunder, the Ivorians would never have scored against Nigeria. All we need is tactical efficacy to triumph. |

The problem with Nigeria football is NFA and not Vogts. For those of you that watched the game against Uganda, you must have noticed that for the first time in many years, the Eagles played a highly tactical game. The Eagles indeed played very well in that game. I thought it was a different eagles on parade. NFA should get their acts together and learn to do simple things right. It does not require a magician to know that contractual agreements must be respected. We must not continue with this foolishness. Vogts must be given a chance to succeed. he is not a magician to be judged with just two games. Not even the so called best coaches can be assessed with just two games. |
