Things were OK then. A brand new peugeot 504 was around N10,000. I am not too such, it might be less then. The middle class Nigerian were enjoying life. The military really destroyed this country backed by a certain region mentality to rule by all means.

How much was the minimum wage then? A fresh graduate was earning around N200 then. This means that he had to work for 50 months to buy that car without spending on anything else. with the present minimum wage of 30k, 50 months (about 4 years and 2 months) gives 1.5m. This una analysis sef

Oga, if you divide our population by a quarter (ie 50m population and not 200m it is now) our gdp will be close to 18 to 20k usd.
Dont you know what that means?
Our gdp will be at par with some countries in Europe. Ideally if our population were 25m, you are talking of close to $40k gdp, then you can call Nigeria a mid-level rich country.
That is why those days in the 70ies and 80ties, we had British, Indian, American etc teachers in primary and secondary schools. Salaries were comparable to those abroad. As Nigeria got worse due to mismanagement and population growth, Ghanaians took over and later left as gdp fell further due to too much nacking and population explosion expecially in the North where they are not productive.
Remove Southern Nigeria from the north and watch Nigeria become rich overnight.

You mean GDP per capita?

Obi1kenobi:

The emboldened is the crux of the matter. The resilience we've shown to recover after the civil war is commendable and something to be touted as a positive, but not the revolting pomposity that we have come to be stereotyped with. And there is a bit of truth in every stereotype even if not "entirely" true.

As I said earlier, I'm someone with a liberal mindset who believes every human being is an individual onto himself who should never be judged or evaluated as part of a profiled collective. Hence, I neither believe our adversaries to be resolutely evil (the same thing extremists among them think about us), nor do I buy into supremacist speech. Pazienza and I have disputed this specific matter of supremacist belief and he's entitled to his opinion, but from my experience, Ndigbo are the most annoyingly pompous, conceited, supremacist loudmouth Nigerians you'll ever meet. Especially ndi Anambra b'anyi. I believe that mentality to be toxic and far from being a virtue, and breeds resentment in others. This is why many Igbos are obsessed with the fantasy myth about us being Jews. They believe Jews to be superior people and believe themselves just like Jews to be superior people. And again, this is why other groups mock us as "developers". They ridicule us with it sarcastically because they heard it from our own mouths. Those typical loudmouths that go around telling everybody how they "developed" everywhere. They think they impress other people when they do it, but they only breed disdain. And when they attract the hate that they are looking for, they claim it's because of envy and jealousy at their accomplishments and material wealth.

Funny enough, I think the generation of our parents and grandparents who actually witnessed the war are far less bitter than the generations long after them who have never seen war. The most bitter Igbos I see when talking about the civil war tend to be young people with very skewed mindsets about the war and its aftermath, while the older generations are actually more keen to move on rather than wallow in the victimhood and persecution complex and reliving the horrors of the war. An observation that I find very weird.

The arrogance of our people and some false sense of superiority drives me nuts. There is nothing on ground neither is there any credible or hard evidence to suggest that we are in any way, better than "them". A look at the type of elected officials in Igboland at every level shows that we are no different from those we castigate. If we are that different, we should not be electing the most incompetent folks as governors, members of the state and national assemblies. These are some of the reasons I do not take the Biafranists, serious. It is an illusion.

Politics / Atiku Has No Mathematical Chance Of Winning Going By The Current Trend Of Result by ahidjo: 6:07am On Feb 25, 2019
Well, after doing the some statistical extrapolations using the results so far, it is going to be a tough task for Atiku to win this. In doing this, I found the average of the margins of wins for each party so far in each state and extrapolated to all local governments in that state. Positive values indicate PDP margin of win (in Thousands). Negative values indicate APC margin of win. For example, for Abia, PDP is profected to win with a margin of about 150 thousand votes and APC is projected to win with a vote difference of 100 000 in Adamawa. These are conservative figures. The final figures can be slightly higher or lower but will not be significantly different unless something magical or untowed happens. I project that APC will win with at least 700 thousand votes.
State
Abia 150
Adamawa -100
Akwa ibom 150
Anambra 400
Bauchi -100
Bayelsa 100
Benue 50
Borno -300
Cross river 150
Delta 150
Ebonyi 300
Edo 100
Ekiti -65
Enugu 300
Fct 100
Gombe -150
Imo 150
Jigawa -600
Kaduna -200
Kano -700
Katsina -500
Kebbi -300
Kogi 40
Kwara -50
Lagos -50
Nasarawa 50
Niger -150
Ogun 50
ondo 100
osun -10
Oyo 50
Plateau 100
Rivers 300
Sokoto 50
Taraba -50
Yobe -150
Zamfara -150

Sum (-785) APC win by 785 000

So because thieves Stole from me, instead of installing CCTV cameras in other to catch next thief I should rather close shop in pursuit of the first thief?

In this particular context, who closed shop? Did the ministries, departments and agencies stop performing their functions because EFCC were chasing looters and thieves. I ask again, which shops were closed? When? Where? How? Why are we so poor at critical thinking and basic understanding of issues?

cyrilamx:
Culled from Uwheraka Lawrence Ricardo's facebook post.

Please nobody should abuse my late father here o, I didn't come to your page to comment: All this sudden noise and write up to show that "Buhari was playing politics"......
When did it become a crime for politicians to play politics? Were they not voted in to play politics? Will it be wrong to develop our roads, infrastructure, free education, return oil blocks to the State instead of individuals? What is this noise all about? Jonathan was voted for by the South West in 2011, the same SW voted for Buhari in 2015, what is all this noise all about the SW going for Buhari? Obasanjo, the direct beneficiary of #June12 is from the same State with MKO, why didn't he play politics and declare June 12?
Jonathan had opportunity for 5 years to do same, he rather gave Abacha from the North posthumous honor, pardoned Ex-convict from the West, Alams from the South...What do you call that? Is that politics or chemistry? 16 years opportunity to acknowledge #June12 they refused to use the #PoliticalUndertone...
So are you expecting Buhari to use Biological or Chemical undertone to take such decision? Why are you guys fixated about those supporting Buhari, is it not a choice and must you dictate to others? You brought up religious sentiments prio to 2015 election, yet blamed Buhari fr being the religious bigot....
Jonathan was running from one Church to another, Sambo openly told them in the North that they must not vote for Buhari because Osinbajo is a Pastor of a big Church....Who is a religious bigot here? I mean, who was running from one religious organisation to another in 2015 because of politics? Pastor Bosun came up with that sudden apostasy, wrapped up Jonathan PDP politics in the name of "wake up call" message. I'm happy that I'm still here. I asked him when most of you were analyzing that heretic message that "Jonathan is fulfilling prophecy".....
I asked a simple question: "Which prophecy is Jonathan"? Pastor Bosun went ahead to say "even if the Islamic party (APC) presents a Christian Governor in Lagos, you must not vote for him, you must vote for the other party(PDP)......Wait, who was using religion? Obasanjo removed Senate Presidents at will, removed any opposing voice, removed Fayose for a small insult, removed Ladoja with thugs in Ibadan....Who are you calling "DICTATOR"? BUHARI......... Obasanjo withheld Lagos State fund for 3 years, not minding how Lagosians would eat, Yaradua got there and released the fund.......
NASS members were abusing Buhari openly, messing up everything at will, Fayose has been abusing Buhari for 4 years now.....not a single State in Nigeria has been denied their constitutional rights because of politics till date, all their funds, Paris fund, bail out, FAAC etc...But who is the DICTATOR? BUHARI. Jonathan ensured that NASS opposition members were locked out including Tambuwa the Speaker of the house. They had to climb gate to gain access.....Jonathan empowered OPCs in Lagos and they were destroying anything in Ikorodu to Ojota that looked like opposition party. Oga of DSS was used to invade APC secretariat, Journalist arrested and Newspapers siezed, we forgot all these....
Ekiti was militarised, Fayose was given power from Aso rock to order Military guys at will. Fayemi the incumbent at that moment was rendered powerless that he was shouting when Police commissioner was used by PDP and a guy was shot...All these videos and pictures are still here (google is your friend)......

But who is the dictator? BUHARI. Jonathan met FX+ECA at $62 billion+. He DEPLETED it to less than $30 Billion in 5 years Jonathan sold crude oil for 5 years at an average of $100 per barrel of 2.2 million daily (2010-2014). Did he add a DIME to Nigeria purse in 5 years? NO. Buhari the ILLITERATE sold oil at an average of $50 of less than 700,000 barrel at some points because of militancy, yet had moved that FX to $47 Billion in 3 years. Don't say how much did he borrow if you don't even have the figure borrowed between 2010-2015 without adding a dime to FX. Who is the ILLITERATE? BUHARIIII. Jide Omokore, Aluko and oil goddess Alinson made an oil deal of N1 trillion and chose not to remit to Nigeria under GEJ. Did anyone raise eyebrow? INTEL of Atiku refused to remit to NPA, not until last year that "ordinary" Hadiza the NPA boss challenged INTEL and insisted the funds must be remitted. A Christian Professor had been leading JAMB all through Obasanjo to Jonathan yet for 40 years of JAMB, only N52 Million was remitted to FG....A Muslim Professor who was appointed just in two years of handling JAMB remitted over N15 Billion......FIFTEEN BILLION o....
So who is following after righteousness? For five years of Okonjo Iweala was paying over 45,000 ghost workers unabated, yet just within 3 years, "ordinary" Kemi Adeosun removed such nonsense...I ask again who is more effective? Ordinary Abuja metro lane took 11 years from OBJ period that he INITIATED it...Ordinary intra-city metro lane o, but Buhari that finished is within 3 years is the failure abi? "Which project did Buhari INITIATE and COMPLETE in 3 years yen-yen-yen"...
Mention any majow project INITIATED AND COMPLETED in 3 years of Obasanjo, or Yaradua or Jonathan...So on what parameters are you using to judge 3 years of Buhari INITIATING AND COMPLETING? Even PDP can't finish their own secretariat left alone that which belong to NIGERIA...LOOTED.

Lagos-Ibadan since Obasanjo till Jonathan can't be finished, but in 3 years of Buhari ask those who ply that road and those who go for Holy ghost camp monthly the difference in pace of work. Wait even Otuoke road in Bayelsa had to wait till Buhari now start to do the road....But who is the failure? BUHARIIII. Emm, "Almajiri School in the North abi....WHERE exactly are these Schools SITUATED in the North? OK, show us the picture. Emm, 2nd Niger Bridge? Lol, they completed it on the MAP, yet Fashola is on it PHYSICALLY now.

Did Buhari fail on security issue in Benue? YES. Did others before him fail on the same security issue in Benue? YESSS...So where did you get all these noise of "Fulani President" is helping herdsmen? Who was the President during Jos crisis, herdsmen killing people in Zamfara in 2013, Odi massacre, Kaduna crisis? You think death suddenly started because Buhari was a Fullani man? That he failed in that is one thing, but YOU are making a narrative of "Fulani President" is giving herdsmen power is funny. January 1, 2018 in Port Harcourt, Christians were coming from Church, cultists from the South South killed their own people....
You know why there was no serious noise by CAN and you? You can't link it to Buhari herdsmen Fulani....The same WIKE that did not drop a million to support the families of those bereaved in his constituency went to Benue State to donate N20 Milliion and you hailed him. Kidnapping of School children in Lagos,
Badoo issue in Lagos...Crisis in Kaduna...WHo did you call on? Ambode the Governor of Lagos and Elrufai of Kaduna. But when crisis happened in River State and Benue who did you shout about? Buhari the herdsmen FULANI. Your Bishops and pastors and Imam that made Aso Rock their abode between 2010-2015, what did they negotiate for the body of Christ or common citizens? Yes, they got their jets, they got waivers and Universities all PERSONAL.....Now that the tap to fuel their jets and lifestyles had stopped, all they tell you from the pulpit is "LIES and Prophecying"....Your anointed ones keep saying ANNOYING THINGS, yet you can't query their lies?
Wait, I remember again your problem with Buhari fighting corruption selectively. So mention ONE name among those in EFCC case without a case to defend. If your hero had fought corruption with one leg, by now shebi it’s the second leg Buhari will be fighting. So what is your problem with the corrupt facing the music? Oh, how about blablablabla….If Buhari did not catch them, somebody else will. But stop crying in defence of the corrupt being asked to face the music. If your uncle is corrupt, tell him to face it, and stop shouting how about other thieves…
I know you lost your job because Jonathan lost out and your job with Mama Patience was terminated. But stop using your personal loss as a yardstick for Buhari’s achievement. Under your hero, several young Nigerians were SCAMMED by Abba Moro collecting money from them for Job, in the process killing many young Nigerians. Jonathan didn’t even sack him. So what do you want the families of those who died when Jonatahn scammed them of Jobs do? Stop crying and face life.
For your information, all those lies about "hidden agenda" can only fly on you because they know you are biblically illiterate. I even saw somebody hailing Fani Kayode for being the voice for the Church...Haaaaaa, abomination. Abeg make I stop, come dey collect your abuses in packs...After all your abuse, na Buhari I go still vote for.

CLASSIC! Thank you

Now if you are talking about stealing and murdering at the Offa bank, no sane mind will ask you not to persecute Saraki if he is found wanting

If the Nigerian police already have evidences against him, follow due process now, charge him to court! Very Simple!

In all honesty, even Rocha's Okorocha is Igbo. no matter how much we wish it away, he's still Igbo. he's just a buhari worshipping Igbo. Same MAY be with the op. My only grouse with him is for labelling every opposition Igbo as unintelligent.

Op, people must not support what you do, and oppose what you oppose. It's unintelligent and sheep mentality.

You never even commended when the so called unintelligent Igbos have rightly opposed some of what the government did wrong. Or has Buhari gotten everything right? the above gave you out as a staunch supporter, which in all honesty can come from any tribe. Your so called intelligence is questionable and if a mark is to be given, you'd score quite low. At least intelligent people respect diversity of opinions. and you clearly don't.

Lastly, intelligence is not measured by how much you support a government, otherwise half of Americans will be labeled dunces for opposing Trump.

Some of you should go and get proper education. Why is it difficult to comprehend a simple issue? Why? Where in my write up did I infer that those who support Buhari are the intelligent ones and those that don't are daft? What is wrong with some of you? Well, some of you are forcing me to get to that unfortunate conclusion.

Yes. I am unashamedly biased towards good governance. No apologies. I always hear people say that GEJ started this and that. The question is: which ones did Jonathan inherit and finish in his first 3 years of administration? It is not about awarding contracts and bolting away with contract money without questions, It is about finishing projects. If governments in Nigeria have been finishing projects awarded by previous governments, may Nigeria would have become paradise.

The reason you shouldn't generalise.Individuals or groups have fundamental right either to vote for or against a party in a democracy without being called names.

The links were in response to your links and in my original post, I was calling for "smart and intelligent" Igbo people to stop sitting on the fence. That means, I was acknowledging that there are Igbo people that think differently from the usual every day commentators here.Hence, I do not know where you got the "generalization" thing. However, we should not continue to look the other way as some Igbos continue to shamelessly support thieves under any guise or excuse. It makes all of us look bad. It's a moral issue.

I read your initial submission which was full of nonsense. Stop talking nonsense. Even if Buhari managed to fight all the corruption in Nigeria, this is still not enough for anyone to support him. There are other critical sectors such as national security, Economy, rule of law, human rights record.

Nobody is expecting Buhari to perform wonders in all critical sectors, but if he cannot do marginally better in all of them than the last administration, he has no business being power.

The roads you talking about are federal roads which my should be done by the Government. Granted that Buhari's government is now paying attention to them. But if just doing federal roads is enough to win the support of people, every government in the world would be re-elected as they would just do that.

GEJ did more for the North than he did for the South, it didn't make the North support him when it came to re-election.

People are taking all the indices of good governance into consideration, Economy, security, infrastructure, human right record, rule of law, fairness in appointment, fight against corruption, national cohesion etc.

Buhari has failed in much of them. Igbos were right not to vote him in 2015. The man is a disaster

We need people with fresh ideas and contributions. Stop rehashing the same thing we have heard over the years that are unsupported by any shred of evidence. In case you care (I know you and your hateful likes wont) the summary of my point is that folks like you should stop supporting or castigating along ethnic and party lines-be objective, reasonable and rational in your assessment. How is that difficult for folks like you to understand? "Igbos" were right not to vote for him but were right to vote for thieves. IGBOS indeed. Nonsense!

If for you a smart Igbo is someone who blindly supports Buhari then what you're looking for isn't smart Igbos but Igbos who follow your train of thought.

Every administration since 1966 will tell you they did well but is that true? Of course not, Nigeria wouldn't be the mess it is if otherwise.

Buhari came to power on the mantra of "change". The question is has Nigeria improved in the last 3 years since he has been there? Since Buhari came in, Nigeria has become far more divided than during GEJ's time. While Boko Haram has reduced, Herdsman have wiped any gains there. Inflation has increased, the Naira has fallen and nepotism has increased. Another key index used in measuring a progressive administration is human rights record which the Buhari administration has woefully failed in.

The two primary functions of Government is security and well being of the citizens. Buhari has failed in both categories as the life of the average Nigerian has become harder under Buhari and insecurity has increased.

I grant that Buhari has made some strides against corruption but it is still far below expectation.

Then you mentioned IPOB. Is IPOB worse than other organisations in Nigeria? Boko Haram, OPC, Niger Delta Militants and Herdsmen have all taken up arms in the past and present, killed people, destroyed properties and driven millions into IDP camps. IPOB still holds its record as the organisation that never took up guns nor killed anybody. So why is IPOB your main headache when there is far far worse in Nigeria?

There are many intelligent Igbos in Ohaneze, they haven't come out to sing Buhari's praise. There are many intelligent Igbos in SEEF(South East Elders Forum), ADF(Ala-Igbo Development Forum), Aka-Ikenga, Nzuko Igbo and many others. None of them.have come out to say Buhari is doing well. You think you are intelligent and they are all fools?

Why is it that the few Igbos who support Buhari are all APC members?

Everyone may have their own barometer for judging the Buhari's administration but Igbos generally have decided that they made the right decision by not voting for for him in 2015.

You obviously did not read my submissions before writing yours. I did not state anywhere that Buhari has, in 3 years, solved all Nigerian problems that have existed since independence and compounded by PDP for 16 years. I did not say that all promises have been fulfilled. I wanted to draw your attention to the attitude of some Igbo people on national issues here. Igbo people should stop defending corruption, corrupt people and other vices in the name of playing politics. We have been playing bad and naive politics for a long time. Yes we have been divided along corruption lines. Those that support corruption and those that are against it. We can delve into the specifics later. As Buhari is rehabilitating the roads in the east, people still have the effrontery to deny such and castigate him. Are you people serious? As for Igbos generally deciding to vote against Buhari, many Igbos who are benefiting from the roads and other infrastructure will disagree with you. It is your personal feeling and opinion. Will it not be foolishness of unimaginable proportion to not vote for the person that brought succor to the people even when and where he was disliked?

As much as I understand your point which I myself have complained about, your reasons are myopic.

Supporting Buhari is not intelligence. Hating buhari with perfect hatred is not unintelligence.

You seem to be a buhari lackey which earns very little point in the intelligence department as far as am concerned.

Irrational hatred for a president did not start now.
Most of the people claiming that igbos hate irrationally, hated Jonathan irrationally.
I still remember the hate words they used on Jonathan's family.

I have issues when some igbos claim they don't want the presidency and such nonsense.

That is the hallmark of un-intelligence. Hating buhari and the APC is not.

You pretended to be objective with your first line but went ahead to reveal yourself as one of those that applaud or castigate along party and tribal lines. First, smart people hinge their support on leaders on issues. Nobody should have permanent support on every issue unless there is consistency in way and manner such issues are tackled. People that hate corruption will always condemn the act irrespective of whether the culprit is APC or PDP. That is not what I see among the folks that I complain about. They attack the government whenever a PDP member is arrested. Their grouse is that all APC members must be arrested also before progress can be made. Where, in the world does that happen? That is irrationality. Supporting one all the time irrespective of the person's deeds is irrational. Most people disliked Jonathan because he refused to fight corruption and allowed people around him to engage in unprecedented stealing of our common wealth, the reason Enugu-Onitsha road, Aba Owerri road, Enugu Port Harcourt roads, Niger bridge were not constructed. Supporting a man like that would be irrational. Does not make any sense. Does it? Sorry, you are the one that is myopic in your parochial views

Everyday the people of South West are busy mascruading themselves as igbos creating a topic igbo this igbo that just to paint igbo black . Firstly igbos are not ethnic bigots who started tribal politics in Nigeria every sane Nigeria know that and it still persist till today please you guys should let igbos be. Secondly Buhari is the one who started hating igbo simple because they choose to vote Gej, democracy is a choice you can not force me to vote for you or have you forgot how he chose the word 5 percent or how he sent python dance to kill the peaceful protestant in South east or the disappearing of Nnamdi Kanu from his home simple because he is an igbo, what about his open marginalisation of igbos from his policy and appointments that every Nigeria is aware of . Thirdly Buhari is the one who hate igbos every Nigeria know that, igbos only cares for their Business and wellbeing they don't have time for hatred or tribalism.

Buhari hates Igbos but he is constructing roads and bridges that those that loved you refused to do in 16 or 6 years. See logic and madness. That's exactly the point I'm making

I thought you want to make sense, but after reading your post, I must confess that you lack common sense.

People that don't know the meaning of common sense are the first to talk about common sense. Go get proper education!

Please, you will not be the first or last patriotic igbo man who wants the progress of the nation while others sees you as second class citizen.
What will you say of a man who says he will function of 97% & 5% ratio despite the fact that we all are entitled to our choice.
No matter what you think, there is an element of hatred you have for Buhari.
If you think Buhari has done better than previous administration in fairness and justice, then you need Paracetamol

Yes. He called you 5% but he is doing, in 3 years, things that those that called you 97% and gave you 97% appointment could not do in 6 years. I said I need smart Igbo folks here, not the usual noisy frequenters.

I do think that that time has come for brilliant, thorough, highly intelligent Igbo folks to show their face on this forum. I say this because, we the smart Igbo guys have become truly frustrated by the many half baked, half-educated, beer-parlor, ill-trained, illogical, simplistic, hateful, dishonest Igbo folks who have continued to disgrace the truly smart Igbo people of Nigeria by their hatefu, illogcal and not-so-smart contributions on this forum. These Igbo simpletons have continued to see everything from ethnic angle, Buhari angle, APC or PDP angle. These shameless folks will stop at nothing to justify anything bad as long as such deed is perpetrated by PDP or Jonathan but on the other hand, castigate or disparage anything good as long as it is coming from Buhari or people that pander towards or work with him. When things don't go well, we should be able to condemn them irrespective of ethnicity, party or individuals involved and also praise good works of anybody irrespective of ethnicity or party affiliation. We must be thorough in our thinking and factual in our presentations and submissions. Beer-parlour ideas and submissions have completely taken over. Unbelievable level of hatred is the norm. It is sad that people in Otuoke have moved on but my people have refused to let go. Are they hypnotized? They now support every evil man as long as he is against Buhari and hate any good man that supports Buhari. When will this foolishness stop. We have a duty to stop this madness now otherwise these groups of characters will continue to disgrace and shame the smart, quiet but majority Igbo people like they did and continue to do with IPOB. Silence is not golden now. Remember that stupidity thrives when the smart ones say or do nothing. Over to you...

Politics / Re: APC: Jonathan’s Ex-aide, Omokri Mocks Ruling Party Over Parallel Congresses by ahidjo: 6:14pm On May 20, 2018
6Ebisco:
Reno Omokri, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has mocked the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the conduct of parallel congresses in some states.

The United States, US-based Pastor said APC’s name should be changed to “All Parallel Congress.”

Reacting via Twitter, the former Presidential aide added that recent developments in the party show that APC cannot give peace to Nigeria.

He wrote: “After the conduct of today’s APC Nationwide State Congress, it will be better for the party to change its name to All Parallel Congress because Parallel APC congresses have erupted in almost all the states of the federation. Can a house divided against itself stand? Be the judge!

“Is there any state where APC held its party congress in peace? How can a party without peace give peace to Nigeria? Can you give what you don’t have? Their party is a reflection of what they have done to Nigeria”.

You should be more concerned on how they handle the issues. Yes, we know that when PDP was in power, there were no parallel congresses. Everything was perfect. You should be more concerned about the unprecedented looting of the nation's wealth by your PDP for 16 years. Not heard anything yet from you. That is the one that affects the citizenry of this country, not parties' congresses. Until I hear loud and clear, your condemnation of the biggest thievery by any party in the world, no sane mind with take you seriously as you continue to make mockery of yourself.
