My argument would be based on the fact that while Mascherano position fluctuates, that of Ramos or Boateng doesn't.


Mascherano started out as a DM in all his club, even at Barca before being moved permanently to the CB role later at Barca coz of Busquet. During those times, he's still playing as a DM for the national team. Argentina would not play Mascherano as a CB. Romero has more chances of playing as a CB than Mascherano. Lol. But this can't be said for Ramos or Boateng.

Boateng played as a RB earlier in his career, but he's been converted to a CB permanently and he's been playing there ever since for club or country.
