Top players are not judge by being able to score penalties, its by which top trophies you win for your team which Hidden Hazard failed at
So stop blaming players that didn't play/lose penalties. They know their capabilities and you must respect that.

All 4 players who took penalties are heroes to me
Senior players wey dey chicken out? when its time for glory they spread chest dey point everybody fault for field but when its time for glory you step forward

Kane Ronaldo Messi etc have all lost penalties at some point and they were attacked by fans but that didnt stop them from coming forward to take more. That is what leadership is about
Spot on.

Players like Eden Hazard, Ronaldo, Messi were leaders at their prime. Their confidence level was off the roof and that's why anyone that condemned them must be insane. cool

They are junior members of the team I am not sure Bruno or Bashiru has up to 10 NT caps. Any player who calls himself a senior player should not be avoiding awoof penalties
Maybe they are poor in taking it like Kanu, that failed us in AFCON final that year.

I will not blame Chukwueze, Bruno or any of those boys who shot the penalty, You have senior men hiding and you come dey blame the small boys

Osimhen took 3 penalties for Galatasaray this season CL and scored all including against Alisson but when Naija match reach we go begin hear excuses
Why won't you blame them for missing 'awoof' penalties?

At the end of the day, PK is not easy to score, right? cheesy

I can name 30 players more deserving than Lawal

If you are talking versatile, Adepoju is no 1

I disagree.

Yobo was versatile only in the defence line.

Mr. Versatile can play anywhere you put him in the pitch. You called him robotic and that's exactly what he is. Give him gloves, he will man your post.
Yes but Yobo still has more goals than him.

What achievement did Mr. Versatile fetch Nigeria? In fact I will even put Mutiu Adepoju before i remember him.

Kanu delivered it for us our greatest moment

Every team functions well with a versatile player in it. Not the superstar of the team but an unsung hero that the coach can readily call on to cover different positions on the pitch.

Think Essien, think Milner, think Mascherano etc.
I will rather put Yobo instead of your robotic Lawal. Yobo was more versatile and effective than Mr Lawal.

Most Nigerians will tell you their proudest football moment was when Kanu led us to winning the Olympics

Not when Obocha dribbled Djibouti
Okocha can show his goals in Afcon and even he scored an equalizer in the final before your Kanu destroyed his effort by missing an awoof PK.

Even shakushaku Hazard scored multiple times for his Country, why did Kanu fail where someone like Jakujaku Jackson passed? (6 Afcons no goal) angry

The only reason I'm sceptical about the level of football in the 1970s and early 80s when Odegbami held sway was how poor Zaire were in the World Cup and they were dominant in Africa.

Adokiye Amiesimaka who was the 3rd star of the team behind Odegbami and Muda Lawal (and very close to their level) was a law student in Unilag and barely had any club career yet was running things in National Team. Imagine going from Law Class to National team and still running things, then back to school same evening

Muda Lawal was a mechanic who offed his mechanic overall and within the same year was already playing for Super Eagles

Level was low in Odegbamis time, can't really compare him to players in 1990s
That's how many thought a player couldn't dribble 5 players to score like Maradona and Pele did, because of advancement in the game until Messi came through.

Some would even argue that today's football is boring and not as tough with the introduction of VAR to stop off-the-ball dirty and dangerous play that hindered attackers back then.

You kill what is in front of you and that's what Odegbami did in the 1980 Afcon final with a brace against Algeria. Recency bias shouldn't deny him of his flowers.

Striker wey dey drag goal scoring stats with defenders Ekong, Yobo, and Keshi but at least the aforementioned three have scored goals or assisted for Nigeria in major senior tournaments.
At the same National stadium where Raumdeuter's Kanu missed an awoof Pk in the Afcon final, Segun Odegbami scored twice in the Afcon final in 1982.

Odegbami must enter the list.

How many of those players survived till the next world cup? Hw many of them were still in Brazil National team

Kanu met the key players in the team which included the best player in the world

Persn play R9 Bebeto, Rovaldo Carlos, you dey ask of Mauro Silva Branco ?
Mauro Silva and Branco led Brazil to win USA 94 and they even started the final against Italy.

When Kanu met full senior men, he couldn't score a goal in 6 AFCON tournaments. The awoof PK he was given at Surulere, baba couldn't convert it and we lost the cup to Cameroon. sad

U23 team is not our senior national team.

When your shakushaku Kanu met matured players from other countries he couldn't score a goal in 6 AFCON tournaments.

'12 goals in 86 matches' striker shouldn't be smuggled into that list. grin

You wey dey argue say Finidi get 4 assists for Eagles, you suppose sit down when we are talking about Super Eagles here
Ogbeni, nobody rates u17, u21, u23 victories when talking about AFCON or World cup. Your Kanu failed woefully for our senior national team. Period.

Our Olympic team was our senior team largely. and the teams we beat those were their senior teams

R9 was there and was the best player in the world that year. They had Bebeto Rivaldo Carlos Dida, who you wan dey compare that to?

No wonder Obocha folded when he saw those names, he is not used to playing top tier players like that
Ogbeni that's U23 and not their national team that won the World cup in 94. No Dunga, no Taffarel, no Cafu, no Branco, no Romario, no Mauro Silva.

When Kanu faced matured players even at AFCON, he failed to score a goal in like 6 editions.

Olympic gold is mainly for underaged players trying to cut their teeth in the game. Yaya Toure and Mane didn't win it but they will shove your Kanu aside when talking about achievements for their countries.

That argument is for those who rely purely on statistics.
Those of us who actually watched Kanu play understand how instrumental he was to many of our victories. On several occasions, Kanu doesn't start matches from the start, but the moment he came on, the game changed and goals followed. It happened too often to be dismissed as coincidence. Whether being fouled in a dangerous position that will to golas, or winning penalties, or providing key assists, Kanu consistently delivered decisive moments when the team needed them most, and all these can not be considered as coincidence, he is a star and a legend.
Wetin Raumdeuter dey always use to rate attackers again? grin

Lookman suppose replace Kanu if we're being totally honest.

Kanu was a fine footballer, but zero goals in multiple AFCON and world cup appearances would always be a question mark.
Don't mind Raumdeuter and his shakushaku striker Kanu. I will even put Emenike before remembering a striker that couldn't score 'awoof' Pk in AFCON final.
