The idea is to delay the pass to Kane such that before Foden could get point blank at goal, Diallo would have recovered to cover Kane.

Foden would need to take few strides before entering 'Sissoko's' position in the box.

Even kids understand tactics more than dayo...When we were young we use to play this game called game box where to win the team outside the box must pass through the box without being tagged..Sometime the team defending the box finds itself in a 2 v 1 situation and the sensible thing to do is to stay in the middle and not commit to any side so as to give yourself a chance to tag a person trying to pass through, commit to one side and the other guy can just stroll through unmolested..

Staying in a position not far away from Kane will force Foden to control the ball and delay that pass to Kane and Foden shooting from outside of the box would have been better than allowing Kane free access to shoot from inside of it, with Mendy exposed.
