Foreign AffairsIran Says 43,000 Civilian Buildings Damaged In US-Israeli Attacks by ajbabs(op): 7:51pm On Mar 14
The Iranian government has released updated figures on damage to civilian infrastructure and casualties after 15 days of US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic, reporting nearly 43,000 civilian buildings affected by enemy strikes.

Fatemeh Mohajerani, the government spokesperson, outlined the scope of destruction across residential, commercial, and health sectors.

According to Mohajerani, 42,914 civilian units have been damaged, including 36,489 residential units — about 10,000 of which are in Tehran province — and 6,179 commercial units.

She further reported 223 female fatalities and 2,729 female injuries among the civilian population.

Mohajerani also highlighted specific impacts to emergency and medical services.

She said 43 emergency base units have sustained damage, with 3 units completely destroyed, and that 32 ambulances were affected.

Referring to the damage to medical centers, the government spokeswoman noted that 35 medical units and 152 health units have been damaged and the number of people killed in the health sector has reached more than 16 people.

In the education sector, Mohajerani said 120 schools have been seriously damaged and the number of teachers and students killed has reached 206 people.

The spokesperson further stressed priorities for the coming days will include rapid assessment of damaged properties, restoration of essential services, and support for affected families and businesses.

Elsewhere in her remarks, Mohajerani said citizens demonstrated resilience by joining the Quds Day rallies on Friday despite ongoing bombardment.

“While in other countries of the world people go to shelters during bombings, we witnessed our fellow citizens take to the streets to make their voices heard even as attacks continued,” she said.

Mohajerani also thanked government personnel and citizens for their participation in public acts of solidarity and for continuing essential services under difficult conditions.

The US and Israel started a fresh round of aerial aggression on Iran on February 28, some eight months after they carried out unprovoked attacks on the country and its nuclear facilities.

Iran began to swiftly retaliate against the strikes by launching barrages of missile and drone attacks on the Israeli-occupied territories as well as on US bases in regional countries.

SportsDavido Appointed Chairman Osun Sports Trust Fund by ajbabs(op):
The Osun State Government has announced the appointment of Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.

The government said the move was aimed at raising funds to transform the state sports sector.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to completing the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, assuring that the upgraded facility will meet Olympic standards upon completion.

As reported by the Guardian Nigeria, confirming the appointment, the state deputy governor, Kola Adewusi, who doubles as the Commissioner for Sports, said the state government under Governor Ademola Adeleke is determined to transform the stadium into a world-class sports arena that will not only host national events but also attract international competitions.

He said, “Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards — a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time.

“I am pleased to inform you that plans are in advanced stages towards the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation. The judgement will be coming after October 22nd when APC local government chairmen tenures would have expired.
PoliticsSupreme Court Reserves Judgment In Osun’s Suit Over Withheld LG Allocations by ajbabs(op): 3:50am On Oct 08, 2025
The supreme court has reserved judgment in a suit seeking to compel the federal government to release all allocations owed to local government councils in Osun state.

The apex court reserved the matter for judgment after parties in the suit adopted their briefs of argument on Tuesday.

Akin Olujimi represented the attorney-general of the federation (AGF), while Musibau Adetunbi represented the Osun state government..

Osun state, in the suit marked SC/CV/775/2025, is seeking 10 reliefs, including a declaration that the AGF must obey and enforce court rulings that upheld the election of democratically elected LG councils held on February 22, 2025.

The plaintiff is seeking an order stopping the AGF from paying statutory allocations meant for the 30 local government councils to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were sacked after their October 15, 2022, election was annulled by both the federal high court on November 30, 2022, and the court of appeal on June 13, 2025.

The state also wants an order directing the AGF to immediately release and pay all withheld monthly allocations and revenues directly into the accounts of the LG councils led by officials elected on February 22, 2025, and sworn in the next day.

Osun is seeking an order of perpetual injunction restraining the AGF from further withholding or seizing funds due to its LG councils as long as the state has democratically elected council officials in place.

Adopting his processes on Tuesday, Adetunbi, counsel to the state, said the AGF had, in a letter dated March 26, directed that the withheld allocations should be released to APC chairmen and councillors who were already sacked from office by a court judgment.

“My Lords, even while this matter was pending before this court, the defendant attempted to destroy the Res (subject matter) by attempting to pay the money to one of the contending parties. They actually paid through the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, but we were lucky to get an order that stopped the release of the money,” he said.

However, Olujimi, AGF’s counsel, reminded the court of a preliminary objection he filed to challenge the competence of the suit.

He argued that the jurisdiction of the supreme court was not properly invoked, insisting that at the centre of the action was a contention between the APC and PDP, over who should occupy LG positions in Osun state.

The state also wants an order directing the AGF to immediately release and pay all withheld monthly allocations and revenues directly into the accounts of the LG councils led by officials elected on February 22, 2025,

“The fact of the case is that the APC LG officials have a three-year term of office that is still running and will expire on October 22,” Olujimi stated.

“However, the state has made it impossible for the officials to function, filing cases up and down to frustrate them from performing their duties.

“Our position is that this is not a matter for this court. This court can only be approached by activating its original jurisdiction as provided in the constitution.

“Moreover, the suit has not disclosed any cause of action. We also contend that the plaintiff not only lacked the locus standi but has also involved in an abuse of the judicial process.”
After listening to both sides, a seven-member panel of justices led by Uwani Abba-Aji, said it would communicate the judgment date to all the parties.

Earlier, the court struck out another suit marked SC/ 379/2025, which Osun state said it filed before the AGF gave a directive for the withheld funds to be released to the APC LG chairmen and councillors.

The 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, revealed that he had withdrawn from active politics to focus on his role as monarch.

Oba Ladoja stated this when Ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alongside a former Senate President, Iyorchia Ayu, ex-governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), and other prominent politicians, paid him homage at his private residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following his coronation.

He stated, “I’m not one of you again. I am the Olubadan of Ibadanland. So, I am for everybody now. I am not a politician anymore. Welcome to my house."

“Now that I am the Olubadan, I am no more interested in any other than the Olubadan. You are welcome to my house."

Recounting his political journey with Atiku, he explained, “We started from the Social Democratic Party, we were in exile together, we were in the Peoples Democratic Party together. When I wanted to create an identity, I went to the Accord Party, which became a household name here. I know you politicians have a way of coming back.

“All the religious leaders said that the only thing the leaders can do is to promote justice and fairness. I will serve my people—Ibadan people, the state, Africa and the world at large. I will depend on your support and advice.”

The PUNCH reports that Ladoja was officially presented with the staff and instrument of office last Friday by Governor Seyi Makinde, who cut short his annual leave to personally attend the historic event.

The event marked the grand finale of activities celebrating former Oyo State governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja’s ascension to the revered throne of Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The coronation concluded a week-long celebration that featured a cultural day, a coronation lecture, a praise and worship service, and the monarch’s 81st birthday, which was celebrated in grand style at Liberty Stadium

The new Olubadan ascended the throne following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.

Foreign AffairsMaps: Israel Has Attacked Six Countries In The Past 72 Hours by ajbabs(op): 12:44pm On Sep 12, 2025
In just three days, Israel has carried out strikes in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, Qatar and Yemen.

On Tuesday, Israel launched a targeted air strike on a Hamas leadership compound in Qatar’s capital, Doha, during a meeting to discuss a US-proposed ceasefire for Gaza.

The strike killed six people, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, the director of al-Hayya’s office, three bodyguards and a Qatari security officer. However, its top leaders are reported to have survived the attack.

The attack was part of a wider wave of Israeli strikes extending beyond its immediate borders, and marked the sixth country attacked in just 72 hours and the seventh since the start of this year.

Since its onset in October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 64,656 people, including at least 404 who have died of starvation. Thousands more have been lost under the rubble and are believed to be dead.

Despite a truce, Israel bombs Lebanon
On Monday at 1:00pm local time (10:00am GMT), Israeli warplanes carried out strikes in the Bekaa and Hermel districts of eastern Lebanon, killing at least five people.

Israel’s military claimed it had struck weapons depots and military facilities used by Hezbollah, though the assertion could not be independently verified. Hezbollah has not yet issued a response.

The attacks marked the latest breach of a ceasefire agreement signed last November.

Despite the truce, Israel has continued near-daily assaults on Lebanese territory, particularly in the south, and maintains an occupation at five border outposts in violation of the ceasefire’s withdrawal terms.

On Tuesday, an Israeli drone strike was reported at the entrance of the village of Barja, about 30km (19 miles) south of Beirut, wounding a Hezbollah member.

Israel targets Syria
On late Monday night, Israeli warplanes struck several sites in Syria, hitting a Syrian air force base in Homs and a military barracks near Latakia, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

Residents reported powerful explosions in Homs and ambulances rushing to the scene in Latakia, though there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the attacks as a “blatant violation” of its sovereignty and a “direct threat” to its national and regional security. State media described the strikes as part of “a series of aggressive escalations” by Israel aimed at undermining Syrian sovereignty.

Since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes on military sites and infrastructure across Syria. It has also expanded its presence in the occupied Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarised buffer zone, in violation of a 1974 disengagement agreement with Damascus.

The SOHR reports that Israel has already carried out nearly 100 attacks this year, including 86 air raids and 11 ground assaults, destroying approximately 135 sites and killing 61 people.

Gaza flotilla attacked twice off the coast of Tunisia
On Monday night, the Global Sumud Flotilla’s (GSF) main ship, the Family Boat, was struck by a suspected Israeli drone while docked at the Tunisian port of Sidi Bou Said, igniting a fire.

The 23-metre (76-foot) vessel, sailing under a Portuguese flag and carrying the flotilla’s steering committee, had six people on board. According to the GSF, the blaze damaged the main deck and storage areas but was quickly extinguished by passengers. All crew and activists were reported as safe.

The Family Boat is part of a coalition of more than 50 vessels with delegates from at least 44 nations seeking to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza. It departed on August 31, 2025, before joining other ships at Sidi Bou Said port.

A second attack followed late on Tuesday night, when another flotilla vessel, the Alma, sailing under a UK flag, was also targeted by a suspected Israeli drone in Tunisian waters. The GSF said the strike caused fire damage to the ship’s top deck, though the flames were brought under control and no casualties were reported.

Since 2010, several flotillas have attempted to break the blockade of Gaza, with most being intercepted or attacked by Israel in international waters.

Israel targets Hamas leaders in Qatar
The attack on Qatar, nearly 2,000 km (1,243 miles) from Israel, marks the first time Israel has struck the small Gulf nation, which has hosted multiple rounds of negotiations between Hamas, Israel and the United States.

The explosions were heard across Doha with thick smoke rising above the skyline. Israel’s military later confirmed it had struck a compound in the West Bay Lagoon area, a district which is home to foreign embassies, schools, nurseries, supermarkets and residential compounds housing native Qataris and foreign residents.

The Hamas leadership has been hosted by Qatar at the request of the United States, which also has a regional command centre, CENTCOM, located just 35km (22 miles) away from the location of the attack.

Israel attacks Yemen’s capital
Israel launched an air strike on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Wednesday, targeting Houthi positions. The strike hit Sanaa airport, marking the second attack on the site in a month. Israel previously struck Sanaa airport on May 6, destroying its terminal building and badly damaging the runway.

On August 28, 2025, Israeli air strikes targeted a Houthi government meeting in the capital, killing Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several other senior officials.

Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase has passed away at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.

As of the time of filing this report, neither his family nor the Nigeria Police Force has issued an official statement confirming the development.
Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, was later appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

Before becoming IGP, he headed the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the police force’s top intelligence unit.

Born on June 21, 1956, in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, Arase studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, graduating in 1980, and joined the Nigeria Police Force on December 1, 1981.

He later obtained a Law degree from the University of Benin as well as a Master’s degree from the University of Lagos.

During his career, he held several key positions, including Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State and Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of intelligence.

He also served in Namibia as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission and was a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Arase retired from the Police on June 21, 2016, after reaching the mandatory retirement age.

He was appointed as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission in January 2023 by the late President Muhammadu Buhari. He was removed from office by President Bola Tinubu in June 2024.

PoliticsWithheld Allocations: Osun Drags FG To Supreme Court by ajbabs(op): 7:38am On Aug 27, 2025
The Osun State Government has filed a fresh suit at the Supreme Court against the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), over the alleged unlawful withholding of statutory allocations due to its 30 local government councils since March 2025.

The fresh suit filed on Monday comes months after the state government filed an application to withdraw an earlier one filed against the AGF on the subject matter.

In the originating summons filed on Monday, the state, through its Attorney-General and a legal team led by Mike Ozekhome (SAN), and Musibau Adetunbi (SAN), is asking the apex court to compel the Federal Government to release all seized funds and to stop what it described as “an unconstitutional and arbitrary seizure” of local government revenues.

The Osun AG argued that the AGF had ignored subsisting judgments of the Federal High Court, Osogbo (delivered November 30, 2022) and the Court of Appeal (June 13, 2025), which affirmed the legitimacy of council chairmen and councillors elected on February 22, 2025.

The state said the AGF, in a March 26, 2025 letter, advised that the funds be withheld pending resolution of a “local government crisis.”

But the state government maintained that the appeal court ruling had already settled the matter, nullifying the October 2022 polls conducted under the previous administration.

Among its reliefs, Osun is seeking declarations that the AGF lacks constitutional power to seize local government funds, that his actions contravene valid court judgments, and that all withheld allocations be released directly into the accounts of the duly elected councils. It also wants a perpetual injunction restraining future seizures.

“The seizure, suspension, withholding and/or refusal to pay the allocations and revenues due to the constituent local government councils of the plaintiff state… is unconstitutional, unlawful, wrongful and ultra vires the powers of the defendant,” part of the suit reads.

The state also raised five issues for the Supreme Court’s determination, including whether the AGF is constitutionally bound under Section 287 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to enforce the rulings of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, and whether his March 26, 2025 directive to withhold funds can stand in the face of the appellate judgment.

Simultaneously, Osun has filed another suit at the Federal High Court, Osogbo, challenging the Chief Judge’s decision to transfer an earlier case on the same funds from Osogbo to Abuja for hearing by a vacation judge.

The state warned that proceeding with the Abuja case while the apex court is seized of the matter could result in conflicting judgments.

In an affidavit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Olufemi Akande Ogundun, described the Federal Government’s actions as “an affront to the rule of law,” insisting that only the Supreme Court can conclusively resolve the constitutional issues. He cited precedents such as A.G. Kano State v. A.G. Federation (2007) and RMAFC v. A.G. Rivers State (2023).

The state also accused the AGF of “self-induced urgency,” noting that he delayed responding to originating processes for over 80 days before filing an affidavit of urgency on August 13, 2025.

It argued that the Chief Judge’s transfer order “casts the lot of the court with the AGF” and risks creating a perception of bias.

However, NCE holders can attain level 14 (directorate cadre) in civil service, this is the same as for HND holders while university degree holders can attain level 16 or above.

We aspire for top qualifications in the South West and competition is high. You having a NCE in SW is as good as not being educated.

Why would we hire NCE holders when we can hire people with BEd and MEd which are superior qualifications.

NCE = National certificate of Education (College)
BEd = Bachelor of Education (University)
MEd = Masters of Education (University)
It is not even NCE holders rather Grade II certificate holders that plenty in the northern Nigeria.
