Nigeria: Third Fastest Growing Economy In The World - IMF in October, 2010

Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced that Nigeria is the third fastest growing economy in the world after China and India, as a result of the growth of the nation’s economy from 6.9 per cent in 2009 to 7.4 per cent this year.

The Minister of Finance, Dr Olusegun Aganga, who described this rating by IMF as a good development at a time when the economies of the developed countries were contracting, said with new policies being initiated by the Federal Government, the economy would witness a turnaround in a very short time.

“What we need in Nigeria is continuity in policies and leadership to sustain the growth,” he advocated.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Sanusi at the World Bank/IMF meetings in Washington DC, Aganga said the economic prospect was bright because despite the fact that Nigeria was yet to take advantage of opportunities and resources available within the country, it achieved 7.4 per cent growth and 48 per cent increase in revenue in the first half of the year.

Among the advantages he identified were existence of 33 untapped solid minerals, steady increase in the oil revenue and 75 million telecommunic-ations subscribers.

“If we have continuity in policy, a lot will be done in the economy and we will do more as shown with the increase in oil revenue by 46 per cent during the first six months of 2010,” he said.

However, Dr Aganga said “the Federal Government requires N100 billion to finance infrastructure development for the next four years in order to add two per cent to the gross domestic product (GDP) of Nigeria.”

He made reference to the state of the manufacturing sector, where operators put 40 per cent of cost on power generation, saying, if infrastructure in Lagos and other places were upgraded, there would be a major relief across the country.

“This could be our decade. I am more excited about the country today than few years back,” Aganga said.

The finance minister, who also is the chairman of World Bank 2010 annual meeting, confirmed his push for Africa to emerge as the president of World Bank and Managing Director of the IMF.

“Of course and it is clear that since 1946, the president of the World Bank has always been from America and the MD of IMF is always from Europe . We are all in agreement that it should change. The appointment to leadership positions should be open to all members, transparent and based on merit going forward. That is part of the reform.”

He added that he had been making the case to increase the quota of the constituency in Africa.

“Whatever we come out with, it is better that we protect the quota of low-income countries in Africa and small medium countries. That is important because it determines the aids to get and the voice in policy issues,” he assured.

Meanwhile, the CBN has raised concerns over the rate Nigeria’s foreign reserves is depleting, saying that plans are underway to slow the pace of spending from the reserves to defend the naira.

Sanusi told newsmen at the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank meeting, at the weekend, adding that the apex bank must make sure the Federal Government did not have access to “easy money” to continue its deficit spending habits.

A series of factors that had been driving the CBN to draw down its forex reserves in defense of the naira were winding down, as the bank reported that its forex reserves were down by 15 per cent from a year earlier at about $34.57 billion, including a seven percent decline in the last few weeks.

“I think we’ll see less spending, but I think the naira will remain stable,” Sanusi said.

The naira slid to a 13-month low in September amid strong local demand for the United States dollar by gasoline and rice importers.

Sanusi said the current exchange rate was not a level that needed to be maintained “at all costs,” adding that “in the short to medium term, we do believe we can maintain this range.”

It will be recalled that the CBN surprised analysts and
investors, last month, by raising its benchmark interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point to 6.25 per cent.

Nigeria's rating as one of the fastest growing economies in the world has plummeted drastically, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revealed.

Nigeria was in 2014 and 2015, rated the third fastest growing economy in the world after China (7.3 percent GDP growth) and Qatar (7.1 percent GDP) by CNNMoney, is not even among the 15 fastest growing economies in Africa for 2016.

This drop in economic status of the country which now stands at 2.8 percent in GDP, has been blamed on the uncertainty that followed the 2015 elections, the unprecedented crash in crude oil price, and late revelation of policy direction by newly-inaugurated President Muhammadu Buhari's government.

The IMF World Economic Outlook for 2016, as revised in April rates Cote D'Ivoire as the fastest growing economy in Africa for 2016 with an anticipated 8.5 percent rise in GDP while Chad is the slowest as it is being expected to record negative growth of -0.4 percent.

With the recent increase of oil price to $40/barrel (although it has been fluctuating), it expected that Nigeria's status may soon start rising after her heavy dependence on oil as a major source of revenue has cost her a lot in the nation's stability.

The inability of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to agree on a fixed price during a meeting last month may yet be another downside, however, this is expected to resolved in the coming months.

If you are afraid of stray bullet on the day of election, and you don't want to get your PVC or vote because of this, you're free.
But you surely can't escape the stray bullet of unnanounced armed robbery, SARs, hardship, poor health facilities, economic meltdown, bad roads, bad health care facilities, corruption, bad governance, looters, unemployment which results to heartbreak, divorces etc.
The plain truth is that this stray bullet will pick at random, anytime, anywhere.
You have a duty to yourself and generation to vote and be part of the process which will determine the course of this country

Voting centre relocation, how easier it is?
I had to travel 24 hours before of each election day in 2015 to cast my vote. I am more farther from the polling booth centre now.

Don't be disappointed. Even though Mynd44 might be myopic in some of his posts but the fact remains that a councillor is a law-maker (making bye laws) at local government level and he or she has no financial power being a non executive officer of the local government. He or she will only receive monthly salary and allowances.

Like if you think it is one of the functions of a councillor to carry out projects in his/ her ward. Share if you think otherwise.

There was pandemonium at the popular Area 1 roundabout Abuja when suspected thugs loyal to the embattled Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West) rescued him and whisked him to safety from the fully armed Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
The drama which began at 2.10 pm lasted for about six minutes with the suspected thugs in two Hilux pick up double-crossing the police escort, jerked up Melaye and threw him into one of the vans and speed off.

Commercial taxis and other motorists were caught unawares when the four vehicles carrying Melaye stopped at the middle of the road.
It was when some of the officers numbering over a dozen came down to transfer the senator, who was observed engaging in scuffles with the officers, into another vehicle that the crowd gathered.
Melaye was practically seen resisting his being moved into another vehicle, he later felled on the ground and was heard shouting, “You must shot me, you must kill me here, I am not going with you to Kogi or anywhere.”
Despite the efforts of three of the police officers to lift Melaye, wearing a brownish trouser and a shirt to match, he resisted kicking and engaging in scuffles even while on the ground. He was also not wearing a shoe.
It was at this time that three of the suspected thugs all wearing black vest and trousers struck from nowhere and lifted the Senator off the ground and threw him inside one of the vans which immediately sped off with passersby hailing him and shouting ‘Dino, Dino….’
The Police Officers who seemed paralyzed with shock could not instantly chase the fleeing van with their prized target.
It took some seconds for the officers to recover from the shock and sped after the van which took off to Finance-Berger junction in Zone 7 Area of the FCT.
The Police Officers initially threaten to shoot anyone who dared to record the drama or take pictures with their phones and even charged at some passersby. They however did not shot or arrest anyone.
It was when they realized that some people at the upside of the junction were recording that they lower their guards and it was at that instance that Melaye was snatched from the ground and whisked away.
Melaye has been having a running battle with the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
The embattled lawmaker’s house was besieged by the Police and it took several hours of interventions and negotiations before he submitted himself to the police outside his Maitama, Abuja, home.
He had claimed that the team of mobile and regular police officers, who arrived to arrest him at Monday afternoon, wanted to kill him, insisting he had done nothing wrong.
The police said they were after Melaye for allegedly arming deadly criminal gangs and convening a political rally that ended with the death of at least one person.
He was also accused of providing false statement to the police when implicated the chief of staff to Kogi governor in an alleged attempt to assassinate him last year.
Mr Melaye denied the allegations, saying his ordeal was largely because of his outspoken stance against alleged impunity in the country.
He also accused his state governor Yahaya Bello, as the mastermind of his predicament, a claim the governor denied. Mr Bello said Mr Melaye should face the consequences of his actions.

While brideprice is the payment or materials that bridegroom will give to bride family

Abraham was neither forced to pay tithe but he was wise in his deeds. He would not plant and go again to dig the ground to see if the seed his growing. He never gave tithe to go and ask what Melchizedek did with it. He gave and focused on God whom he served who is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him.

Your tithe is not what made Adeboye rich. Those that are giving to appreciate him know why and would not question him, neither would they stop.

It should not be your headache in anyway what he tells his children. Fast for 100 days and those that did saw the results those that never did saw that too.

The time of Grace means you should sell all and give to the men of God. Acts 4:32-37 that is conscience. You can't afford to see any poor. If we are to follow it accordingly or literally. A lot don't pay yet the church is Marching on. A lot pay or give because they saw the respect people give to those that gave. Their reward there too in Acts 5:1-11

My Opinion is simple 10% is too small for me to be ranting about for what God has done for me and my family. God has used Pastor Adeboye to grow his kingdom from about 70 churches to thousands. Why won't he be blessed you think it a joke to pray and fast and lead just 5 people, something must be working for him and that I convet too. I trust Him for more and by his grace he will do above every thing I ask for. Nothing comes for nothing you have to pay a price. Salvation is free but yet the kingdom of God suffereth violence and only the violent take it by force. I see tithe as tapping into Gods greatness as in the Hebrews 7 you gave verse 4. Then read 4-7. If Christ is a priest according to order of Melchizedek verse 17 isn't it wise I emulate Abraham and give him my 10th. So that I can get blessed according to verse 6&7. Bro pay your tithe.

Do your best and let God see your service is in spirit and in truth. You can also read 1 Corinth. 9:8-15.

The Bible is an inspiration and that inspiration has not stopped reason why you might get confused if you do it without Gods guidance. The Pharisees that read it literally were chastised by Jesus.

It is not must thing. Search the scripture my sister. Work of God must continue to grow. Church of Christ can encourage people to give unto the Lord and needy bountifully. Pastors should not preach half truth to congregation by cajoling or scare them into what Lord is not compulsory for us.

Note: God is not in support of cathedrals or mega churches that we are pursing today, God is interested in the number of souls saved to His kingdom.

Yayi ordinarily has no reason to steal the Senate mace. Even if he has a reason to, he won't be so stupid as to want to publicly associate with the invaders. Everything is not a lie. The presidency angle is absurd by the way.

Do you know each senator has their security details attached. Does that mean that the security officers were looking when the senator heading towards wrong vehicle?
The whole show is the more look, the less you see.
More than five armed officers are attached to each senator. Where were they when the situation turned upside down? Not to talk of standby security in the National Assembly Complex. There must be complicity from APC led federal executive government.

Study the below for more understanding on tithe

Deut 14: 22- 27, This is how God Almighty wants us to spend the tithe, if the new millennium ( modern day) pastors would be bent on us to pay tithe or go to hell.
After you, might have read the above bible passages, then read the popular Malachi 3:10
If you are to bring tithe to house of the Lord, you are the one to determine how to spend the tithe according to words of God Almighty by using it to buy things to eat in the house of the Lord and in his presence. God Almighty then advised his people to remember sons of Levite when they are eating their tithe.

God didn't demand for money!
Even if you bring your tithe from a far place, you can change it to money but by the time to get to presence of God Almighty, your must use the money (tithe) to buy food and wine and you and your family members should eat it in the presence of Lord but remember to share out of your tithe to priests (who are sons of Levite), orphans and those who don't have. This is God's command.

My brother, then read Hebrew 7: 1- 28 for better understanding for the eradication of tithe by Apostle of Christ. Read Hebrew 7: 12 very well

Jesus Christ death ended the requirement of the law. Rom 10:4

Don't allow yourself to be deluded. Heb 7:8-12

8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth. 9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him. 11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law

The law has been set aside (Heb 7:18), included in the law is its requirement that you pay tithe. It was a sin not to do so, but the law has been changed after Christ paid with his blood and set the law aside. No true christian is under the law. When Christ was alive and the law was then effective. Christ's death ended it.

Slight modifications : In accordance with the advice from the scripture that I should not forsake the fellowship of the believers, I am fellowshipping with the believers in a local parish of RCCG, in Ibadan.

Why say you are a Christian when you don't believe the Bible. When it comes to Psalm you want to read it for yourself and your enemy, but when it comes to doing especially giving you say its old testament.

I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Who says if you steal you won't be curse. Who says if you do not honour your parent its not curse. Who is saying worshipping another God you wont be cursed. But when it comes to not paying tithe there is no more curse.

Stay with God. Believe in God is word would not change to suit you. The foundation is sure and anyone that build otherwise is in trouble. Many even know more that the Teacher Daddy Freeze but because deep in their heart they have got it twisted in the area of tithing the shout Haa I said it.

Keep on deceiving yourself. If you are not a Christian you are wasting time in church.

Bible says by their acts we shall know them. Why would I stay with someone without results and trade him for someone with result and proofs to show he is serving the true God.

The truth is many who call themselves Christian today don't even believe the Bible. Its only true believers that will get the rewards. If you like carry the book and put it under your pillow you doubt Gods word you are a joker.

Ask freeze, who are his converts, how many souls has he won for God. Who are those that have been imparted by is prayers and prophesies. How many are giving testimonies concerning the mighty use of God through him. How many churches has he planted. Who are those that he pays as a result of their setrvice to God. How many endowment has he given to help the less privileged. How many disciples is he mentoring for Christ. How many villages has he visited to preach the gospel. Who did he pray for and things turned around in their lives.

By their fruits we shall know them.

If you are to bring tithe to house of the Lord, you are the one to determine how to spend the tithe according to words of God Almighty by using it to buy things to eat in the house of the Lord and in his presence. God Almighty then advised his people to remember sons of Levite when they are eating their tithe.

God didn't demand for money!
Even if you bring your tithe from a far place, you can change it to money but by the time to get to presence of God Almighty, your must use the money (tithe) to buy food and wine and you and your family members should eat it in the presence of Lord but remember to share out of your tithe to priests (who are sons of Levite), orphans and those who don't have. This is God's command.

Jesus Christ death ended the requirement of the law. Rom 10:4

12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law

The law has been set aside (Heb 7:18), included in the law is its requirement that you pay tithe. It was a sin not to do so, but the law has been changed after Christ paid with his blood and set the law aside. No true christian is under the law. When Christ was alive and the law was then effective. Christ's death ended it.

While I respect Pastor Adeboye, I respect the word of God more. If indeed he said that, that without tithing a person cannot entire Heaven, then he has had it totally wrong and he needs to read the Bible with the sacrifice of Christ guiding his search.

Tithe is unbiblical for Christians; that much is certain from the Word of God. And any pastor preaching tithing is either ignorant, in which case he is to be pitied, or he is a deliberate impostor and a belly-seeker (i.e. thief), in which case those listening to him are to be pitied.

Shikena. Thank you Daddy Freeze, some sense and sanity might just percolate into the new Dark Age of Nigerian Christianity by what your effort. Please do not keep quiet. Do not remain still. Shout it every where. Shout it like Martin Luther, like John Knox, like John Carvin and like George Fox...because they refused to keep quiet they were able to overturn the deception of the Catholic Church...We still benefit from their uncharacteristic approach to doctrinal issues. And it is my prayer that in your lifetime you will see the idols that men call MOGs toppled and the true Christ and His word enthroned supreme like in the days of George Fox.
