i agree. i don't think Clinique products are overpriced, you have to look for the product that works for you and when you do and you are happy with it,chikena! Clinique can be strong for some though there are different strengths. i use their clarifying lotion, pricey but lasts forever. i love the exfoliating face scrub too. but this is because i have very oily resiliant skin so it suits me. @gamine Ogabi do face peels and some people swear by it for facial probs. Makari is full of bleaching ingredients and mercury!!!!!!!! i heard some people have used it and come out in carbuncles the size of mount everest, STAY AWAY!!! PS- i have recently started using Retin A cream for spots and i can say it seems to be working wonders. it exfoliates the skin clearing debrit and dead skin cells. Again not recommended for sensitive or dry skins. |
fellybabe:Thanks Fellybabe, you are a gem for all that info. in my quest for products that work for my ooooiiillllyyyy skin i have just discovered Blemish control Toner Formula 3 with 2%salicylic acid (Mary Kay) and it is absolutely fantastic. it sweeps every bit of oil from my face and also acts as a exfoliator (a peel) thanks to the salicylic acid. it may be a bit strong fro some but because of my oily skin it seems to be working really well. i also started using Retin A cream - 0.05%. i did a lot of research and found that it was very good for acne prone skin and oily skins. For some people it is really too strong and it comes in different strengths. the one i use is not the strongest strength. i use a pea sized bit only once - at BEDTIME after lightly washing and making sure skin is dry. it really does peel the skin, although mine wasnt as severe as some stories ive heard. the combination of the two products really is sloughing my skin to reveal smoother more refined less greasy skin. Word of caution- i read somewhere that some skins react really badly so please know your skin type REALLY well. i dont have sensitive skin, but as i said my main problem is oil and the more than occasional spot. Im keeping my fingers crossed and will let you know how i feel about these two products in a few months time. |
HR Hotness Do you know wher i can get clinique products from in Lagos? Many thanks |
LadyT:@Lady T(Or whatever the hell you are called, so rude!) Senseless enough for you to make your own opinion heard!hisssssss! @chi*babe, im sorry i have to agree with Karmamod and yongbabe, you do sound as immature and ignorant as they come. and all that ''masters degree, blah, blah'' what does that have to do with the price of Sugar? anyway ladies lets not get the scud missiles out again. |
Keep up the info Fellybabe what moisturiser would you recommend for VERY oily skin. Something with saclicylic acid, but what brands do you know that are available in Nigeria? Also can you recommend a facial wash again for OILY! skin. Look forward to hearing from you! |
younbabe, it is true that they are in the limelight and under a microscope but why is it that so many actresses have multiple marriages under their belt, and then there is always one scandal about some snatching someones husband or boyfriend. it just seems to me that they have loose morals and they give actresses a bad name. i respect a few for the work thay do which is tremendous but why do so many(not all)have such bad reputations. Is it really because they have the opportunity to meet so amny people or they just want to ber like their countaparts in Hollywood? They tend not to be evry professional, some even crave the idea of seeing their names in the papers. there are so few actresses that are really disciplined and professional. |
Why do so many otherwise talented Nigerian actresses have such controversial and tainted reputations? all i keep hearing is this one slept with this one on set, location. this one is going out with that one and many times they are married( i don't want to mention names). Its like they can't keep their knickers on. Or do the press exagerrate those sordid stories? Please give me you take on this, |
All my sentiments EXACTLY. |

There is poor and there is POOR!!! The northerners are POOR.you have completely missed th point. i have not said that all northerners are living a decent life. same way i cannot say that all southerners are suffering. however when i said there was poverty everywhere ,there is! Please, who are the AVERAGE southerners that you know that all earn 180k? the difference btw southerners and northerners is that they are ENCOURAGED to stay uneducated and poor. where as in the south even the really poor DARE TO TRY and change their lot. Even if it is selling pepper, clothes, something, anything to make a living. Basic education plays a big part. A lot of southerners know that there most be something more tha life has to offer, in the North they are encouraged to rely on someone providing for them. A lot of the problems of poverty and illiteracy in the north is caused by theri elite, the few rich and powerful cliche that are now holding everybody to ransom. they promote ignorance because it keeps those poor people poor and sick. Yes i accept that there is advert poverty in the north but there is poverty everywhere in Nigeria, people have just learnt to cope and try and change their lives. I still maintain that a lot of Northerners wait for things to provided for them. |
They are content because eveything is handed to them |

There appears to be a lot of ignorant morons on this thread.I agree with a lot of what you have said but i think there are poor people all over Nigeria. Southerners who travel abroad to hustle are far from rich. They go because they are desperate for a better life and dont see the government doing anything or offering any means of improving their lot. A southerner has only himself to fall back onto. He has to hustle and sweat blood to make a living. The northerner on the other hand can either rely on some powerful rich uncle/brother/indegene to bail him out or rely on the totally subjective quota system. Many are complacent(or lazy or both) as they dont NEED to hustle. i agree that their culture does not mix very well with western culture. For the record not everyone on this thread is an ignorant slowpoke. ![]() |
Using a nice natural lipgloss and then outling the lips with a harsh very dark pencil.yuk! Slapping foundation on and not blending properly wearing a foundation that is too light using red eye brow pencil on the brows, why? wearing white knickers underneath tight shirts or trousers wearing white bra underneath sheer top too many accesories, less is more short short mini over fat bulging legs and belly, no, no no!! uncombed, tangled ill looking weaves, too light and it looks trashy, boobs hanging out of a too tight bra and top |
Ghana weaving, rice and beans two step with long loose braids. 5 hours and looking great. iice:Just wanted to know what kind of straigtening, is your hair long and thick, 7 hours seems a long time. Anyway we all do these things to look good. LOL! |

HRHotness, yes youve given some really invaluable info on this forum. Am not a spring chicken but i like to look good and really appreciate all the info. Please keep posting!PS what is secret oil? is it any good for oily skins? Where can i get it to buy in Lagos? ![]() |
SKINCARE: Which is better Clinique or Murad? I have oily skin and love some of Cliniques products for oily skins. I just love the exfoliating scrub and have used the turnaround cream before, no complaints. My sister however thinks clinique is like paint stripper! i think though that that is because she has a different skin type., probably sensitive, though she does get spots too. Ive heaRD A bit about Murad but from you experts, what do you think about Clinique products and which are your favorite? Mine are: Exfoliating Scrub-for oiler skins, contains salicylic acid-good for sloughing dead skin. Cant do without it. Liquid soap- oily skin formula Cleanser 3 or 4 Moisturiser gel- for oily skin Dermawhite lotion-have used to remove dark spots, good but pricey Turnaround cream for oily skins- another good product containing salicylic acid, really good, again pricey though Super City Block-SPF 40(just a dab in my moisturiser, the reason i chose 40 is so i don't have to use too much, oily skins don't really like sunblocks which by there very nature are a bit heavy) I just LOVE super balm moisturising gloss in ginger-(talk about a lushious natural looking pout). Tell me your favourites or what you think about Clinique! ![]() |
Thanks Gucci babe. Can you give me the address in Victoria Island. |
Where can i find the best white formal blouses/shirts in Lagos? i have a formal outing soon and would like something very classy, say silk or satin. Nothing trashy. Any ideas? Dont mind the cost as long as its the best quality. ![]() |
No i have never had one done i n Nigeria. My advice is to be very careful when deciding to have oine done and use a reputable establishment. I beleieve Priscillas bride in 82, Allen Avenue ikeja does a green peel but i dont know how much it costs. i think there are a few places especially on the island(victoria) thast do peels. if you are really interested you might be better off going there to have a look and make sure you gat all the relevant info, like what chemicals etc that they use and what to expect. a good salon should willing to give you all the information you need as well maybe speak to clients that have had it done. Be aware that peels are not fr the faint hearted as you may have to stay in doors for up to a week while your skin peels. but if its done properly the results are unbeleivable. But please remember your SPF!!Good luck! |
a lot of the summer sales would be over by then but there still bargains to be had. Liverpool street market as i said and the best places to get makeup is still oxford street cos you xcan trry them out, there is a lot of choice and there are al lot of free bies as well. if you want things like Clinique, Mac, Iman, etc John Lewis, Selfridges, all the big department stores along Oxford street will oblige you and you dont have to buy, just say you are trying out and ask for samples, always ask cos they are meant to give these out but a lot of people are too shy to ask. Good luck |
i juat wanted to say a few things about chemical face peels. i have had a few as i had lots of acne scars on my face. it is imperitive to remind ladies that if you have a face peel you MUST, MUST use a SPF to protect your skin. |Ideally nothing less than 25 will do. i had a peel in london where the weather is not hot, no sunshine. it was wonderful in that when the dead skin peeled off you could see the new fresh skin. because i have oily skin i found the spf cream too thick and greasy and didnt use it as often as i should have. the result was darkend skin that i have only gotten rid of about 6 months later. we tend to think that as black skins we dont need spf because of the melanine which protects us from sun rays, which is true. however when you do a skin peel the skin naturally now produces more melanine, the skin pigmentation to protect the skin. it practically goes into overdrive especially in the sunlight. when you use an spf it calms the cells that produce melenine and you dont end up with skin that was ven darker than what you stated with. So beware!! now when i had a peel i used Clinique City Block SPF 40!No dark pigmentation at all. A word is enough for the wise o. |
It depends o your pocket and what kind of things you are buying, ie for business? or self? for pure indulgence nothing beats Oxford street which is the retail capital of the world. There you can visit Selfrgdges,Debenhams, John Lewis etc ansd they al have extensive ranges in clothes and especially makeup. But there are the prices to match as well. Liverpool street Market and Shoreditch are places you can get high street fashion at cheaper perices but beware and check quality. shoreditch have nice italian shoes but be prepared to walk and haggle. Brent Cross is really good cos all the shops are under on roof and you wont bneed tp walk as much as if you were on Oxford Steet. There are shope everywhere really, on every high street-NEXt, , Mexx,Principles,(all these are good for work clothes and skirt suits)Coast( for really nice EXPENSIVE fora\mlwear). Russell And Bromley for shoes, again rather dear but lovely. Primark (oxford Street Branch) is ideal for cheap everyday dudes, jean skirts, cotton dresses that kind of thing. the quality is not for outings though but you get a lot for you buck. Harrods in Knightsbridge is great for really luxurious shopping, money. but its a good place to visit and check whats in vogue. Marks and Spencers is great for underwear and workwear. they have some nice tops and shoes|(for play). all i will say is as long as you have a LOT of money to spend you will have a ball. If not look round fisrt to check out the bargains. Good luck |
Where is the best hair salon in Lagos for great hair cuts? |
CAN ANYONE GIVE ME THE BEST SKINCARE TIPS FOR OILY SKIN?They say oily skin wrinkles the slowest but in the meantime i am plagued with ever shiny face and visible pores. Makeup hardly ever lasts more than an hour or two before it starts slidding south. Is there anyone like me but has conquered the slug? HELP!!! |
Ladies your contributions have been so useful. i actually went for a colonic irrigation in Kilburn after reading it here and it was wonderful. i am in Nigeria now and i was wondering if anyone has any really good makeup tips for a very oily skin. its no so bad in uk were the weather is somewhat drier and colder. here though it is so humid and hot that i can feel the makeup melting and slidding off my face. i do have a few black spots so concealer and or foundation is a god sent. HELP!!! |
''Every woman'' is a very helpful book that can give you all the info you need. Sexibabes was right. half way through your cycle is when you ovulate. this however depends on the lenght of your cycle. remember it is not always regular for all women. sometimes it might be 28 days others 26. as a rule if your cycle is 28 days then you most likely ovualate on about the 14th day. now those seven days that sexibabes says yhou are unsafe, keep in mind that sperm can stay alive for up to four days! so if you have sex even 4 days before your unsafe days, if the sperm are still alive they will find the egg o!!! Good luck anyway! |

But it's worth it!! No combing yippie!!!
