If you don't do anything else for your skin, use a sunscreen, drink lots of water, and have lots of fresh fruit. Name brands pour out lots of delicately-scented, exotically bottled bullshit, but look at the ingredients not the brand names. I use three amazing products from Avon, Elizabeth Arden and Philosophy Grace, and my skin is incredible. Just fish out the best ingredients for your skin and stick to it.
Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by Gamine(f): 3:41pm On Oct 25, 2008
I feel ya.

Theres nothing like Natural supplements but i do love my Elizabeth Arden! grin
Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by MadMax1(f): 11:51am On Oct 27, 2008
Great brand, isn't it? Clinique is overpriced and does nothing for me,but those three brands:Fantastic. Someone was hollering Obagi and I checked it out. All they're selling is hydroquinone. Eeek! I recently got a great bargain on the Arden product I use from Amazon. Saved over $200! Heaven! Great product but the prices just kill me.
Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by Gamine(f): 5:28pm On Oct 27, 2008
Yeah.

well, my make up is Clinique and i dont think its overpriced

i think it depends on the product.

but Body Products, Arden, Aveeno.

i go for safe.

Next time i travel, im gonna look for a lot of Body Shop products

You can never really beat Natural stuff.

Obagi? never heard of it

Makari, do you know it?
Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by ajilete(f): 7:02pm On Oct 27, 2008
i agree.
i don't think Clinique products are overpriced, you have to look for the product that works for you and when you do and you are happy with it,chikena!
Clinique can be strong for some though there are different strengths. i use their clarifying lotion, pricey but lasts forever. i love the exfoliating face scrub too. but this is because i have very oily resiliant skin so it suits me.
@gamine
Ogabi do face peels and some people swear by it for facial probs.
Makari is full of bleaching ingredients and mercury!!!!!!!! i heard some people have used it and come out in carbuncles the size of mount everest, STAY AWAY!!!
PS- i have  recently started using Retin A cream for spots and i can say it seems to be working wonders. it exfoliates the skin clearing debrit and dead skin cells. Again not recommended for sensitive or dry skins.

I just found out, my sister stole my clinique console.

KAI!! cry cry cry

i asked about Makari, because i know when they launched it at Eko hotel.

My sisters and cousin bought it, but like you said

it was rubbish, i just wanted to know, if there is perhaps, one good story.LOL
Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by MadMax1(f): 1:44pm On Oct 28, 2008
Heard of Makari. They were touting it as the Second Coming for skin care. I'd heard only rave reviews. A friend asked me to check out the ingredients. Er, it doesn't contain Mercury. But it contains skin bleaching ingredients, and that, only the safest. I told her I didn't find anything offending in the mix, but it bleaches skin. She tried the Caviar Face Cream and the Body Beautifying Milk. I think their ingredients are pretty strong cos she turned one funny colour like that. She couldn't determine the culprit, and stopped using both. She's gone back to what she was using before, Arden,Olay and Philosophy.
Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by Gamine(f): 1:59pm On Oct 28, 2008
Funny colour.lol, the reviews were too good to be true

do you use sunscreen?

the last sunscreen i used was one overpriced Loreal, chei!

i was burnt not by the sun but the price! and it was only 15spf

my sister got this one by St.Ives, 30 spf

Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by MadMax1(f): 12:44pm On Oct 29, 2008
@Gamine
I use Prism, spf 50 sunscreen. It's a sports sunscreen, and works extremely well. It's highly recommended.

@Marhd
Your hair's falling out? Are you conditioning it regularly? You should have a heat cap, which works with any good conditioner. Mix a whole egg, raw,to a good conditioner, apply thoroughly to hair and steam your hair in the heat cap for an hour. Or wrap a hot towel around it for 45 minutes to an hour. Shampoo with baby a shampoo, the milder your shampoo the better. Towel dry and apply a little 911 leave-in conditioner. Allow hair to air-dry,and then apply a good hair cream. Never comb your hair with small-toothed combs. Start with large toothed combs and then a medium-toothed. Never comb when hair's wet. Condition your hair AT LEAST once a month.

If you're weaving your hair and it's too tight, your hair WILL come out by the roots. When you loosen the braids and comb it,you get a huge mass of broken-off hair. Don't let your hair be styled or woven too tightly. When you loosen it apply 911 or any good leave-in conditioner first before you brush it out.

This goes to those of us who're fastidious over their feet

Begin with gentle buffing using a foot file to create a porous

surface for moisture. Then, use a foot srub to exfoliate dry feet.

Meanwhile you soak your feet in warm water

and gently buff again while they are wet…

after you must have dried the feet,

apply an intensive foot cream, to maintain soft feet,

then gently massage, i usually use while massaging Almond oil, by

Neal’s Yard remedies

hope dis helps

@Gamine
Clinique do loads of sunscreens, City block goes up to 50SPF.

@Madmax, i remeber i did read somewhere about mercury and makari, maybe am mistaken but bi did do some research on what Makari does contain,
I got the following info from a website, www.cosmeticsdatabase , that hold data on the ingredienst in cosmetics and their toxicity to humans.

Makari contains-Sodium hydroxide (Na OH), also known as lye, caustic soda and (incorrectly, according to IUPAC nomenclature) as sodium hydrate, is a caustic metallic base. Sodium hydroxide forms a strong alkaline solution when dissolved in a solvent such as water. It is used in many industries, mostly as a strong chemical base in the manufacture of pulp and paper, textiles, drinking water, soaps and detergents and as a drain cleaner.

DMDM Hydantoin - Moderate concerns of irritation to skin, lungs and eyes.

Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate- prohibited for use in cosmetics in us, jhapan and europe. Linked to immunotoxicity in humans.,
I think am going to check this website for other harmful ingredients in our cosmetics, mmmm
Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by Gamine(f): 1:34pm On Oct 30, 2008
Thanks people!

i will look out for 50spf, its so necessary!

i remember in school, if you were using sunscreen, you were seen as pretentious, Nigerians eh!

Makari, kai! evil cream!

thanx a bunch i'l try the tips out.
Re: Fashion ~ Beauty & Grooming Tips : Post Them Here. by MadMax1(f): 7:23pm On Oct 30, 2008
NAOH and Hydantoin are in a huge percentage of cosmetics, from Jergens to Johnsons to Clinique to Philosopy, and are harmless,I think. How harmful can something put in drinking water be? But the immunotoxicity thing sounds serious.

Okay, ladies. I know we all like our bakasis to be on point in those jeans but really tight jeans are not sexy. You want a little bit of breathing room.  When I first heard this from a stylist, I shrugged it off but once I tried it--my thighs felt relieved and I felt sexier.   kiss

Deep condition your hair once a week, two weeks before a perm/touch-up/retouch. It'll give your hair huge volume. I tried it and it's true. Don't know why.

- Don't wear wears or braids with extensions too long. Nothing is uglier that an old hairstyle that is dirty and unkempt.

- Wear clothes to flatter your body type.

- Don't wear too much make up and make sure to wear a good quality makeup that matches your skin tone - such as Mary Kay.

- Keep your personal hygiene top notch!

~ Exfoliate at least once every two weeks (once a week for dry skin). The top layer of our skin is made up of dead cells. Exfoliating regularly leaves the skin fresher and softer. It also helps to fade scars. Fade creams don’t work, they can cause more trouble than they’re worth. Exfoliating takes longer but it is far kinder to the skin.

~Don’t use soap or a soap based product to wash your face. Soap dries out the skin and strips the natural skin flora (which protects us from bacteria) and affects our natural PH balance. Use a cleansing face wash instead.

~If you have oily skin or tend to break out in spots from time to time avoid using products with a High Alcohol Content. While it does initially seem to help remove the shine from the skin it actually has a drying effect. The skin then produces more Sebum (oils) to try and compensate. The skin then looks even shiner but feels tight as it is actually dehydrated.  Witch Hazel and Tea Tree Oil products can be used to cleanse and tone the skin or applied directly onto the spot with a light moisturizer which won’t weigh down the skin and block pores.

~Oil and moisture are two different things. Just because you have oily skin does not mean that you don’t need to apply a moisturizer. Also, if you do suffer from blemishes, avoid constantly touching your face. Even subconsciously we rest our hands on our face through the day. People are constantly preening, picking, poking, squeezing, and scratching our skin in front of the mirror. If you disturb a spot you not only risk scarring the skin but you actually push some of the pus back down below the skin surface and risk cross infection. If you really must get rid of it that day, steam your face first to open the pores. Then wrap your two “squeezing” fingers in tissue paper or use two cotton pads. Then wash the area immediately to avoid spreading the bacteria.

Don't let your hair do, esp braids last longer than 1 1/2 months. . . .because with new growths comes knots, and those knots are very had to get off. Causing your hair to fall out at the edges. sucks wink
