Some weeks ago, the Nigerian government hired a Washington-based Public Relation firms, LEVICK Communications Trust, to execute three key image laundering activities. Primarily, LEVICK would provide the Goodluck Jonathan led administration with counsel on how to change local and international media narrative about Nigerian government’s failure to find and rescue the missing Chibok Schoolgirls, kidnapped by Boko Haram from their hostels in Government Secondary School, Chibok, in April. LEVICK is also expected to help attract global support for the Nigerian government’s war on Boko Haram while branding it as part of a global war on terror. The Nigerian government pays LEVICK N16.2 million monthly for the length of the the contract, originally conceived for one year. This is in addition to other fees charged at cost, without an upper limit. The contract was signed by President Jonathan’s former spokesperson, Ima Niboro, on behalf of Nigeria. Mr. Niboro is the current director general of News Agency on Nigeria. PREMIUM TIMES obtained a copy of the contract between LEVICK and the Nigerian government, filed with America’s National Security Division and Foreign Agents Registration Unit. Former Petroleum Minster, Professor Tam David-West, has warned the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) against declaring vacant the seats of its five governors, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) using the instrumentality of the court. There have been reports that the Presidency and PDP are assembling a team of highly experienced SANs that will look for loopholes to exploit in faulting the defection of Governors Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Aliyu Wammako (Sokoto), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) to the opposition just as APC raised the alarm last week that it had uncovered a plot by the presidency/PDP to shop for a judge that will do the hatchet job of making judicial pronouncement that will pave way for the removal of the affected governors from office. But Prof. David-West, who spoke with Sunday Independent, warned that any court that allows itself to be used for such illegality was not only irresponsible, but reckless. He further warned on the dangers of ousting the governors illegally, saying going contrary to the provisions of the relevant section(s) of the 1999 constitution on the removal of elected governors from office could plunge the country into chaos. In his words: “Pardon my immodesty, I’m saying this not because I was one of the 50 men that drafted the constitution. I read the constitution again to bring out the section of the constitution that make nonsense of what they are talking about. “They are talking rubbish. They are talking nonsense. They cannot do it. PDP cannot declare any seat of a governor that defect vacant. “I refer to Section 68 and Section 109 of the Constitution. It’s clear that if there is division within the party and certain members of that party feel that they don’t agree with what the party is doing, they can go to any party and still maintain their tenure till the end. “Originally, it was meant for only governors. Then the lawmakers also wanted to be part of it, so they amended it for the lawmakers too”, he said When asked to comment whether the earlier ruling of an Abuja High Court which recognised the Bamanga Tukur-led National Working Committee as the authentic PDP could not be used by lawyers to argue that there is no faction in the PDP, he said: “Did that same court say the G7 is proscribed? ”That judgment was open ended. They said there is only one PDP; the court is right because the PDP is registered with INEC. “The New PDP was not registered. So the court is right. At the same time, the court was very careful. It didn’t say by this we now proscribe the New PDP. So, New PDP exists. “Even the judge tacitly recognised that there is a faction in PDP that is why he said there is one PDP registered with INEC. It never said by this, we hereby proscribe the New PDP,” he said. David-West added: “They (G7) are very clever. They first established that there is a faction. “They created the faction and stayed long enough, thereby they are protected by the constitution. “The moment they left, they never said they have created a new party. They stayed and always said they were members of the New PDP. They are very clever”. The former minister also took a swipe at the Presidency for frustrating the World Bank/Africa Development Bank (ADB) loan meant for providing potable water for Rivers State indigenes saying, “Look at the case of ADB; [Rotimi] Amaechi wants to bring to the state pipe borne water. Since it is foreign loan, the Federal Government must guarantee. “Rivers State has satisfied its own part of the deal completely. It’s left for the Minister of Finance to sign for the Federal Government. ”She refused to sign. They are given stupid excuse that they are still studying it. What are you studying? This has to do with the lives of the people. “And Jonathan had two million votes from the people and yet they are punishing them. They think they are hurting Amaechi. But by doing this, they are making Amaechi popular”. He said Amaechi has always gained the upper hand against the presidency in all their purported squabbles simply because the governor is grossly underrated. “They underrated Amaechi that is why they are in trouble. Amaechi is very brilliant. He has a lot of people that are doing research for him. I know this as a close admirer and friend of his. “Amaechi has a body of people that do research for him. Every serious leader has what they call think tank. I had, Buhari had. Every serious leader has. Babangida had. “Amaechi is always ahead of them in vision, thinking, plan, and strategy. He has powerful group of intellectuals that are working for him. “They do a lot of research for him. They meet and analyze a situation before he steps out,” David-West added. “For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” “Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.” “Lead from the back — and let others believe they are in front.” “Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.” “I hate race discrimination most intensely and in all its manifestations. I have fought it all during my life; I fight it now, and will do so until the end of my days.” “A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.” “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” “If I had my time over I would do the same again. So would any man who dares call himself a man.” “I like friends who have independent minds because they tend to make you see problems from all angles.” “Real leaders must be ready to sacrifice all for the freedom of their people.” “A fundamental concern for others in our individual and community lives would go a long way in making the world the better place we so passionately dreamt of.” “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.” “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” “Difficulties break some men but make others. No axe is sharp enough to cut the soul of a sinner who keeps on trying, one armed with the hope that he will rise even in the end.” "What count in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the live of others that will determine the significance of life we lead" "When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw" "I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun, one's feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death "No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite." Two Holes discovered on the body of Proffessor Festus Iyayi’s Body has given life to the suspicions by his fellow colleagues that he may have been shot to death and not killed in an accident as widely reported. Iyayi was travelling to Kano in the company of three other ASUU members for a meeting on the ongoing strike by members of the union when a police escort van in the convoy of the Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State rammed into the bus the university teachers were travelling. Iyayi died instantly, while three his colleagues were seriously injured. One Week after the accident ASUU dismissed the view that Iyayi’s death was accidental and forcefully contested the official claim that his heart was pierced by a strange object at the accident scene. The association pointedly blamed the death on the government and “its agents”. In a statement issued by the University of Benin chapter of the union, ASUU said Iyayi did not die in an accident, but was “wilfully” murdered. The union said it will demand concrete answers from the government for the alleged murder. It demanded that an autopsy be performed on Iyayi’s corpse and warned government officials to stay away from the burial. Civil society groups in Edo State also demanded an inquiry into Iyayi’s death. Photographs below of Iyayi’s corpse obtained show holes that look like entry and exit bullet holes. The Joint Action Front, JAF, a coalition of labour organisations, has also accused the government of masterminding Iyayi’s murder. A statement signed by its president, Comrade Abiodun Aremu, said the circumstances of Iyayi’s death are questionable. They argued that there was nothing at the accident scene that could have drilled holes in Iyayi’s body. When told the coroner’s inquest did not support his claims, Akhaine retorted: “The coroner’s report is not the result of an autopsy. Until an autopsy is done, you cannot say anything to the contrary.” But how closely do the holes on Iyayi’s body resemble those made by bullets, especially given that the one on the chest looks big? A retired army colonel told Reporters that the holes have a high degree of consistency with those made by bullets. “There is a 70 per cent probability that the man was murdered and 30 per cent that it was an accident,” he said. If it was an accident, he argued, the impact would have caused a squeeze, not neatly drilled holes. He explained that a close-range shot from a pistol would cause the bullet to enter an object, as it allegedly did Iyayi, and exit through the back. “The big hole in the chest shows that it was a pistol. This is because the wound a pistol creates is bigger at the entrance and smaller at the exit. But if it was a Kalashnikov (AK47), it would be smaller at the entrance and bigger at the exit,” he further explained. The retired officer added that AK47 bullets gather momentum as they hit target, unlike pistol bullets, which create bigger impact at the point of entry. “There is the possibility of shooting in the confusion of the accident or that the accident could have been contrived to cover up shots,” the retired colonel said. But did any of the survivors hear a shot before or after the crash? Not exactly, but they are not ruling out the possibility that a gun may have gone off on account of the impact created by the collision. This is because in all likelihood, the vehicle responsible for the accident had heavily armed passengers. “I heard the two vehicles collide. But given that it was a police vehicle, it is possible that, as we usually notice, cops in the escort vehicles of governors are always armed. So, anything could have happened on impact,” reasoned Anthony Monye-Emima, Chairman, University of Benin ASUU branch. If that was what happened, could Iyayi’s death be described as anything but accidental? Obviously not. Lawyer and former university teacher, Professor Itse Sagay, urged caution. Sagay, who was sacked alongside Iyayi from the University of Benin by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida in 1987, said: “Nobody can pinpoint exactly what was responsible for the injury (the hole in the chest), which I believe killed him. There was no piece of iron or sharp-edged object found that could have done it. I believe the only solution to the problem is to have a very thorough autopsy to determine the cause of death and from there, one can then begin to build on what possibly could be responsible for his death.” Sagay added that since there is no doubt that Iyayi’s death was caused by somebody in Governor Wada’s convoy, a case of murder or at the minimum, manslaughter, could be established.Iyayi’s death. Prof. Wole Soyinka insisted that Iyayi must not be buried without a coroner’s inquest. He said: The world is watching. With the mortuary photos of the late Festus Iyayi just published, the world is waiting and watching if the corpse shown in that image will be interred without a coroner’s inquest. To allow this to happen is to make all of us accessories to a possible crime. It means we are now attuned to the culture of impunity and forfeited all claims to elementary ctiizen security. Tributes ring hollow if doubts are silenced. “Beyond all doubt” is a protective armour for each one of us, no matter where and how. So let the nation be placed in knowledge Beyond All Doubt over the circumstances of Festus Iyayi’s death. That is the minimum any self-respecting society must demand, not merely as a collective shield, but in the service of Truth, and for all posterity. We remain haunted by the far too frequent, unexplained decimation in the ranks of the committed. Good day house, I av an issue bothering me over 3year now. I av a childhood friend dating my younger sister and since then I hate him like shit. Not that I want to marry my sister myself, but d problem is that the guy is a player and I don't trust him with my sister. I have also searched myself and i've discovered why my hatred is justified. Reason being that in many occasions have arranged girls for him, and even his late date I was the one that hooked them up. But to my surprise, ever since he has been going out with my sister, he has changed, more religious and he doesn't flirt any more. But my greatest fear is about their genotype, because he is so serious about the relationship, he's AS and my sister is AS too. He knew I would decline if I had known about the relationship at first that's why he hided it from me. But now have found out, and when I confronted her, she told me she's already in love. I told her the only problem I have with the relationship is their genotypes, that she should think twice before she make her decision. She's a serious girl and very religious that's why I love her and I don't want her to make the same mistake our elder sister made, by giving birth to two sickle cell children. Please your serious opinion is needed. |

CAN Is Political, Oritsejafor Is Not A Christian Leader But A Politician! Primate Babatunde Ayodele, General Overseer of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, has slammed the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, for operating as “Christian politician”, rather than a Christian leader he was expected to be. Speaking to Vanguard over several national issues, the cleric said CAN is nothing to write home about as the association is now political. “Truth is bitter but you have to say it! CAN is political! Ayo Oritsejafor is not operating as CAN but as a Christian politician. CAN is blindfolded and there is no leadership in it. That’s why we’re getting so many things wrong in Christendom. “CAN doesn’t know how many churches we have in the country, it has not created any youth empowerment or pastors’ empowerment. CAN should be scrapped. “Christianity is not how rich you are but how well you’ve been able to touch the lives of others. CAN should employ not less than 20,000 youths and should do something about women, widows. “The truth is: Ayo Oritsejafor is a politician and not a pastor.” Primate Ayodele said further that Oritsejafor never honours invitation from white garment churches. Wondering why, the cleric asked, “Is he God to say a church is not genuine? Any man who does that is not a pastor! It’s not your right to say you are holy! “But the Bible says God has blessed us with the spirit of discernment… Can Ayo see? Is he a prophet? How can he tell me his spirit discerns?” He rated white garment churches to be among the best worldwide. “White garment churches are among the best worldwide! That’s why you see influential men and women going to them for prayers! Why don’t they remain in their Pentecostal churches? “Even pastors from Pentecostal churches go to white garment churches to consult privately and get spiritual powers. “I am a godfather to many Pentecostal churches but I have no godfather! God is my only father in the Lord!” Primate Ayodele submitted that CAN needs change of leadership. “We need somebody who is more vibrant as CAN leader,” he said.
