The environment of the Federal High Court in Lagos was on Monday enveloped with emotions as a woman, believed to be Naira Marley’s mother, burst into tears. When Naira Marley appeared in court, he was looking subdued and depressed. On seeing him, his mother burst into tears. Earlier, fans Nigerian musician, Azeez Fashola (a.k.a Naira Marley), have taken to social media to protest the arraignment of the music star. They complained that the arraignment of the Music star was fast compared to politicians who allegedly engage in corruption. Naira Marley on Monday appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations bordering on credit card fraud and cyber crime.He was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Justice I.N. Oweibo stood down the case some minutes after the musician entered the dock, to wait for his counsel, Mr Olalekan Ojo (SAN). The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that it is investigating Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State. Acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, Mr Ibrahim Magu, affirmed this during an exclusive interview with Channels Television in London. Asked if an investigation is ongoing regarding the governor, he responded, “definitely”. “Of course, we are doing a couple of checks and investigations here and there. We are investigating almost everybody,” the EFCC boss added. He noted that the commission has to get to a certain level before it can disclose any information about an ongoing investigation. Mr Magu explained that this was necessary to prevent any action that can jeopardise or interfere with the process of the inquiry. According to him, Governor Okorocha is one of the many people being investigated by the commission. The EFCC boss said although he was aware of reports of the investigation on the social media, the details the anti-graft agency has was different from what was in the public space. He, however, declined to disclose it. Magu is in the United Kingdom to meet with investigators assisting the Nigerian government in solving cases of money laundering and financial crimes. Embattled rapper, Naira Marley appeared in court today with very heavy security presence where he pled 'Not Guilty' to the charges of fraud against him. After the charges were read to him in the presence of Justice Nicholas Oweibo, he pleaded ' not guilty'. Justice Oweibo however slated the 30th of May for the hearing of bail application. . A Nigerian man has taken to his Facebook page to recount how a delay at the ATM saved him from entering a bus that was involved in a fatal accident that claimed 5 lives yesterday, May 18th. The man, MC Paschal Obinna Drich, wrote I am posting this LIVE from Enugu Abakaliki expressway, am on my way to Urevene Amarachi2 in Ezza mgbo to #MC#Mr_Wiseman_TRADITIONAL_MARRIAGE..i would've enter this vehicle but I was delayed at the ATM only for me to return back and it's filled up.. I shouted and shouted for me to follow this bus but to no Avail so I had to wait for the next one.. NLC president, Ayuba Wabba said Ngige has no right to change the appointment made by the president on the basis that he never recommended Frank Kokori to head the NSITF board. “He is not fit to be a minister. He has no reason to be called the minister of labour. He is a lord of his own and therefore instead of protecting us, he is against us. Therefore we have nothing to do with him under the circumstance,” he said. “NLC has sent messages to all workers in the 163 countries who are members of the ITUC to embarrass the minister and members of his family anywhere they are seen, especially at airports where workers operate. “The real reason he is opposed to Chief Kokori was that the veteran labour leader cannot be compromised. Since the minister has been talking about the issue of corruption in the NSITF, the government should put in place a judicial commission of enquiry to investigate the agency so as to unravel who the actual corrupt persons are. “So, we are demanding that the Board, headed by Kokori, be inaugurated and all the thugs who attacked us in the full glare of security agents be investigated and prosecuted. “The CWC decided to embark on a national protest on Monday, May 13, in Abuja against the brutalisation of its members during the peaceful protest. “As minister of labour, he knows that there is a clear provision of the law on picketing, lockouts and even strike action and therefore for him to have instead of addressing the issues, descended so low to the extent of using thugs to attack workers who were on a peaceful conduct of the protest, is something that is less than desirable and is anti-workers.” |
