It's more that a 'belief' but a 'fact', implicitly corroborated by some of the players.
QueenJazz:
There is simply no rationale. Evidence of her doings are clear to see. It's sentiments that drive decision making when it comes to Nigerians. That's how it has always been.

Someone said on Twitter that Madugu's football philosophy is still not clear till now. And I still have this nagging belief that the Super Falcons excelled at the last WAFCON not because of Madugu but in spite of him.

Word!
lovewins:
It's just incompetence in full display that the WAFCON success seems to have clouded. How you have 4 NPFL players on the team when they haven't kicked a ball in months. Taiwo and Usani are not super falcons material, at least not yet and have no business in this team.

As is, we are in trouble should anything happen to Nnadozie cause these guys are too myopic to see how the need to get another competent goalkeeper is of utmost importance. Instead, they see it as a chance to bring home based players who by the way have been on break for months now onboard.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 12:44pm On Oct 17, 2025
I will be surprised if Debbie Ajibade, Osi Ohale and Chiwendu Ihezuo are able to honor the invite. This is because they will be neck deep in the CONCACAF-W Champions league in session, as Washington Spirit and Pachuca made it to the next round, which is in the next couple of weeks.

On another note, kudos to Joy Omewa who finally made the team (about time!). A straight 'like-for-like' replacement for Iffy Onumonu who recently retired.

Pssst (side jist) ... looks like Toni Payne might be on the naughty list - heard there was a bust up between a player and the coaching staff, leading to that player blacklisted after the first game of the recent WAFCON. Most unfortunate, as Nigeria has a dark history of doing things like this.
lovewins:
Not surprising if you've listened to the coach speak. We'll see more homebased player inclusion as time go on.

The Monday Gift exclusion shows the WAFCON snub wasn't an oversight. Maybe he just doesn't fancy her as a player.

To be honest, watched the highlights around midnight and was feeling sleepy.
Will watch again and reassess.
BascoVanVeli:
I thought she did good last night.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 4:58pm On Oct 16, 2025
Talked about her some time ago.
She came in during the 1st half, but based on the highlights I watched late last night, had a ho-hum game. I plan on watching the full 90 to assess her performance.
She is still young and can add some depth to the squad.
She played in the unders (17 and 20) for the US and yes, she is open to play for Nigeria, pending her switch.
BascoVanVeli:
American Nigerian 22 years old. Can play as a fullback and forward. Hopefully Osinachi and Chiwendu are working behind the scenes
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 5:25pm On Oct 04, 2025
Any word on Ayooluwa OKE , who plays for Pachuca in Mexico, alongside Chiwendu and Osi Ohale.
Real good attacking midfielder slash right back.
Tons of age grade experience in the US set up.
Deltamani:
Yeah… Joy Omewa deserves a look, golden boot winner this past season and already the top scorer this season..

For Edna Imade, she’s back to form after suffering a knock during preseason… Already 2 goals in 4 game this season.. the news is still thesame that she already in contact with Spain to play for them that’s why she’s on loan with Real Sociedad so as to stay for a year to complete the process before joining Bayern next season..

Not to mention her goal against Canada, the cheeky backheel. Brilliant!
Thanks for the memories, Iffy! 🙏🏾💕
Wishing you all the very best in your future endeavors, my Engineer 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
ekehopp2:
Ify Onumonu retires. congratulations kiddo. Thanks for the memories. You did good. 🇳🇬👍🏾

I remember these 2 goals fondly!

7 July 2022 Stade Moulay Hassan, Rabat, Morocco. Nigeria vs Botswana 2–0 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations
30 November 2024 Stade Raymond Kopa, Angers, France. Nigeria vs France 1–2 Friendly

@Deltamani,

Now that Onumonu has officially retired from Professional football, now might be the time to integrate Joy Omewa into the squad.

Also, what is the status of Edna Imade?
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 10:54pm On Sep 28, 2025
Blistering hat trick by Gift Monday. Pretty much destroyed Alozie’s Houston Dash this afternoon in DC.
Seems to be playing with a lot more confidence and control now.
Cameo by Abiodun and Alozie

Wasn't the #3 the one that Magudu took to WAFCON as a home based?
I see they are trying to recycle her through the system, as she was not particularly impressive during the WAFCON.

Also, the #10...I mean, how many times must this girl be recycled through the age grade teams? Between the U17s and the U20s, she must have done multiple tours of duty. Enough of this nonsense, please. She is not good enough and probably will never be.

Time to explore other more prospective options!

This kid is a warrior, no doubt.
Sorry, but why is she not a contender for WAPOY (Woman African Player of the year) again?
She most certainly deserves to be in the mix. Most definitely!

Moji Ayodele, Goalie for New Jersey Institute of Tech NJIT (NCAA D1), who will become a senior next year and likely join the NWSL draft.
Most definitely, one to keep an eye on.
Good height, very agile and good command of her area. She seems to be a decent keeper and could definitely be in the mix for our Super Falcons.

Chiamaka Okechukwu is a forward who plays for San Diego Wave in the NWSL. She is not a midfielder and I don't think she is ready for the SF as yet. Perhaps after this season IF she gets more playing time.
GeneralDae:
Mercy Idoko of course. There’s also an attacking midfield youngster in the NWFL making waves. Can’t pin down her name now (I think it’s Okechuckwu) . I think she played in the last U20 World Cup for the super falconets.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 5:28pm On Jul 28, 2025
And what exactly is your Zidane going to do? She would be clearly out of her league, as she does not have a defensive bone in her body. Ditto that for Moshood. Idoko is not half as good as Favour Emmanuel who should be the one to complement the current midfield. The SF needs players with the best lungs, who are pacy and can offer value upfront and in defense.
Neither of the players you mentioned offer this.

daveP:
Make they add Zidane and Idoko join for Midfield, it won't be a bad idea for Moshood too.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 5:24pm On Jul 28, 2025
I think you are partially right.
Abiodun is a DM and it showed when Ayinde was removed and JOE came in. Abiodun locked down that midfield in the 2nd half and completely neutralized the Moroccan attack. I recall only 1 clear attempt on goal for the Morroccans in the second half.

Regarding Plumptre, Rinsola coming in pretty much put the left flank on lock down, as Rinsola is a very disciplined left winger who provides more end to end value and compliments Ashleigh better, than Ihezuo who is an out and out striker (as evidenced in the 2nd half).
The JOE and Rinsola substitutions were the turning point of the game and should have been done sooner.
GeneralDae:
There were two major problems in the first half:

First, no left winger in the attack.
Given the fact that Plumptre loves to go forward and track back quickly against the speedy/skillful Moroccan winger on her side, she needed support badly. Ihezuo tried to help but it’s not something she’s used to. She’s a center forward.

The second problem was that an Abiodun / Ayinde combination does not work that well for both. The Ayinde Ucheibe combo or Ayinde Echiejini/ Ijamilusi combo (depending on the formation) is much better. So either Abiodun or Ayinde had to be taken out.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 12:13am On Jul 25, 2025
Yes, I did have it mixed up!
Esther with the assist.
My bad.
BascoVanVeli:
I think u have it mixed up. Esther passed Michelle the ball and she played it into the net. It was a basic pass but Michelle took her shot right after
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 10:52pm On Jul 24, 2025
Alozie's goal was recorded as unassisted.
Neither Esther nor Abiodun touched the ball.
yinkeys:
Plumptre hasn’t recorded an Assist
That ball got to Esther before Ihezuo
Esther has 5 assists if you include Alozie’s goal

It’s possible the WAFCON refs committee may recommend a red card and extended ban for Debbie, retroactively.
It’s been done before after review.
daveP:
I just saw the replay. It deserved red card. Red card naim that tackle be. It was reckless and ill timed. Gabriella wasn't even rushing to contend that ball when Debbie sweeped her leg off the ground. Naaahhhhh. That was super reckless mehn.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 8:30pm On Jul 22, 2025
Replay shows it was Debbie - pink hair.
Samueltemi337:
Deborah or ihezuo?
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 7:39pm On Jul 22, 2025
Poor Gabriela.
Her career has been plagued with injuries and she just returned from a major one to make this team to the WAFCON.
Really feel for her and wish her a speedy recovery. Can’t help but feel real sad for her.
daveP:
Her leg was in a cast when they lifted her up on the stretcher. Then camera shapali went to the crowds chanting her name.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 7:29pm On Jul 22, 2025
Compound fracture.
Debbie Ajibola plowed into her during the goalmouth scramble in the 83rd minute, which was an unfortunate accident.
Really hope Gabriella Salgado is okay and wish her a speedy recovery.
This really discolors the SF victory. 😕🙁
daveP:
Its an ankle twist similar to Musiala's. All the best to Salgado. Wishing her a speedy recovery after surgery.

Edna Imade signed by Bayern Munchen.

Congratulations to her - really proud of her accomplishments.
If not for that buffoon Magudu, who refused to invite her when he should have, she could’ve been a Super Falcon running the frontline at this WAFCON. What a complete dullard!
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 9:39pm On Jul 09, 2025
Sorry, but your statement is factually incorrect.
Tosin Demehin CAN and HAS played as RB, RCB and LCB .
Ashleigh cannot play on both sides of the defense and has only played as either a LB or LCB .
lovewins:
Because only one of the 2 players can function in a dual role. Ashleigh can play a makeshift LB position, but Demehin cannot. That's what informed Randy's decision to move her there and every other coach has followed suit since then...
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 5:38pm On Jul 08, 2025
Its not only laughable, but pathetic to read some of the disparaging remarks made about some of our Super Falcons. Two of the ladies in particular, namely Tosin Demehin and Debbie Abiodun have been targeted for absolutely no reason.

Over the years, both have proven themselves to be invaluable members of this team, having progressed from the U20 team. I had the honor and priviledge to watch Tosin's debut against Jamaica here in Houston and knew within a few mins of watching her play that she would become a really good centerback. She has yet to prove me wrong. Debbie Abiodun made some tackling errors which will be corrected. There is a reason why she is called 'Kante'. She WILL end up being one of the very best CMs to don the SF green and white. By the way, both ladies are in their early 20s, Debbie being 21 and Tosin being 23. They still have several more years to craft their trade.

So, to all the so called experts here...which player on the team has not made mistakes? Rash? Plumptre? Ohale? I mean, give me a break.
This was game 1 of potentially 6 games to be played. Should this not be the time to make mistakes and work on them before the knockout rounds? Is the team not supposed to save the best for last, meaning get better and stronger as we march to game 6, hopefully?

Y'all need to take a chill pill and quit spewing unnecessary hate. Let the ladies breath, please!
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 8:36pm On Jul 06, 2025
For me, the poorest player on the field was Christy Ucheibe.
Horrible passes all day long since she entered the field. I mean, not a single good pass ! Kept turning the ball over.

Worst performance I have seen from her.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 8:33pm On Jul 06, 2025
Puhlease!
Keep what possession? She is not good enough.
This is certainly NOT under 20 football. This is senior women’s football and she doesn’t have what it takes to play at this level. That is the reason she is not here, even when she was given many more opportunities than Abiodun. She is poor at defending and does not have the lungs to play at this level.
GeneralDae:
Definitely Abiodun in my opinion. Ucheibe and Ayinde already offers that defensive midfield cover and they are more mature in their tackles than Abiodun. Esther Oyenezide knows how to keep possession and keep the attack going from the midfield. Her only weakness is that she always wants to shoot even from distance which can be managed by the coach.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by AkinDS: 8:28pm On Jul 06, 2025
Very very impressive commentary run by Desire Oparanozie.
From knowledge of the game and diction, I was in awe.
Really proud of her debut as a commentator.
A billion times better than Rachel Ajegba and Ikpeba who were mediocre, to say the least.
Big ups to Desire 👍🏾👍🏾
GeneralDae:
She did better than Ikpeba to be honest. I think it’s anxiety though because Oparanozie doesn’t make those mistakes on her channel.
