TravelNigerians, Travel To U.S With Valid Visas - Nigeria U.S Embassy by akinlex(op): 1:33pm On Mar 09, 2017
The United States Government said on Wednesday that Nigerians with valid visas should travel to the United States without problem. The U.S. diplomatic Mission in Abuja was reacting to a statement issued on Monday by President Buhari’s adviser on foreign affairs and diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, that Nigerians should not travel to the United States unless it was necessary.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs countered her on Tuesday during a press conference.

TravelAbuja Airport Closure: Airlines, Cab Operators Anticipate Losses by akinlex(op): 2:13pm On Mar 07, 2017
Some airlines and cab operators have anticipated losses as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, is set be shut tonight for its runway repairs, the The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Abdullahi Saroke, Station Manager, Azman Airlines, told NAN that 65 per cent of flights operated from Abuja airport would likely to be cut off at Kaduna resulting in losses.

Saroke explained that many lucrative routes like Abuja-Lagos,Abuja-Enugu, Abuja-Kano and many others would be affected as many passengers might decide to travel by road to those destination.

He expressed fear that airlines might run at loss at Kaduna, explaining that airlines take load factor into consideration before flying a particular route.
According to him, if you fly aircraft with 124 and 110 passengers’ seats with less than 85 or 90 passengers, you are running at a loss.

“From the airlines’ perspective, what I foresee will happen is that we are going to go to Kaduna but not all routes will be viable.

“Then those routes that we think will be viable from Kaduna, if you operated it and you are at lost, I am sure with no time people will just shut down their operation unless something is done.

“For these reasons, some airlines may not want to go to Kaduna except those routes that are far like Port Harcourt and Lagos but all these routes that are close to Abuja may decide to stay away.

“Statistics has shown that 65 per cent of domestic flights happened between Abuja and Lagos and this route is going to be shut down by midnight on March 8.

“What that means is that 65 per cent of this operation has been cut off remaining 35 per cent and there are so many routes you cannot operate from Kaduna and they are lucrative routes.

“Those routes are Abuja-Asaba, Abuja-Owerri, Abuja-Warri, Abuja-Port Harcourt, Abuja-Enugu and Abuja-Kano,’’ he said.

On the free transportation arrangement by the government, Saroke advised that there should be supporting vehicles in the event of breakdown or tire burst since flights are time bound.

He also advised the government to take into consideration the fact that airlines would not be responsible for the passengers that miss their flight since it is the government that handles their movement.

“In the event that the passengers miss their flight, who pay their compensation and who takes care of their accommodation if need be since it is the government that is responsible for that?

“Those are the key areas the government did not look at because in case you want to assist somebody and the assistance failed, are you going to compensate the passengers,’’ he queried.

Also, Aliyu Abdullazeez-Aliyu, Chairman, Airport Car Hires Association (ACHA), Abuja Chapter, said his members would lose up to N300 million during the period.

Abdullazeez-Aliyu said that a larger number of the members would be out of job during the six weeks period, adding only few of their members would join those at Kaduna.

He added that the association would deploy between 150 to 200 car hire members to Kaduna airport to complement those operating there.
According to him, it is our Kaduna branch that is absorbing some of them from Abuja because both Abuja and Kaduna belong to one national body.

“Quantitatively, we stand to lose about N300 million to N500 million within these six weeks because our members make millions of naira on daily basis here.

“Our operation will be at Kaduna within this period because of those that will prefer to travel privately but we don’t have provision in the city centre.

“There will be processing of passengers in Abuja but that will be exclusively government arrangement because they are providing free buses to convey them to Kaduna,’’ he said.

PoliticsTrump’s Travel Policy: Nigerians With Valid Visas Denied Entry Into USA by akinlex(op): 8:10am On Mar 07, 2017
The Federal Government has advised Nigerians against visiting the United States of America at the moment except for crucial matters as a result of the lack of clarity in the country’s new immigration rules.

The advisory was sequel to the barring of some Nigerians, with valid US visas, from entering the US in recent weeks.

“At least, four Nigerians with valid visas were denied entry to the US within the last two weeks and sent back to the country on the next available flights,” the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Matters, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, told The PUNCH on Monday.

In a statement on Monday, Dabiri-Erewa advised Nigerians without any compelling or essential reasons to visit the US to consider delaying their trip “until there is clarity in the new immigration policy.”

She added, “In the last few weeks, the office has received a few cases of Nigerians with valid multiple-entry US visas, being denied entry and sent back to Nigeria.

“In such cases reported to the office, the affected persons were sent back immediately on the next available flights and their visas were cancelled.”

She reminded Nigerians in the Diaspora to abide by the rules and regulations of their host countries and be good ambassadors of the country.

Francis Adekola, who was affected by the immigration restriction, explained that he was prevented from attending a friend’s wedding in Mississippi on February 15, 2017.

Narrating his bitter experience, Adekola said he was detained for over 10 hours before he was placed on aircraft and returned to Abuja via Johannesburg.

He said, “I travelled to the US on February 15, but when we got to the Atlanta airport, where I was to connect another flight, I was asked to step aside at the check-in counter by an armed border protection officer.

“He walked me to the luggage section and searched my wallet and bag. He also collected my telephone (set) and went through the contents: SMSes, pictures, WhatsApp chats, everything.”

Adekola, who recently finished his Ph.D at a Canadian university, said he was informed by the immigration agent that he did not have strong ties in Nigeria and that he might not go back home if allowed into the US.

Though he was allowed to speak to someone in the US, he stated that he was still prevented from entering America.

Adekola added that his mobile was not returned to him until he got to Johannesburg.

“My documents were not released to me until the plane was airborne on its way to Abuja even though my home was in Lagos,” he said.

He explained that he saw some nationals of other countries, who were also denied entry to the US, noting that the wasted trip cost him over N1m in airfare.

The US embassy could not be reached for comment as it had yet to respond to an email, sent to it, seeking its reaction to the barring of Nigerians.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was also unavailable for comment.

Its spokesman, Clement Aduku, did not return calls to his mobile and had yet to respond to an SMS as of the time of filing this report on Monday.

Tonto Dikeh and Oladunni Churchill

Controversial actress, Tonto Dike, shocked so many people when she got married (traditionally) to her much talked about Mr. X who she always flaunted on her social media handle.

Even as so many people wished her well in her marriage and hoped the union would ‘calm’ the actress, some other foes of hers predicted doom and said the marriage wouldn’t last.

They were right after all; just 17 months after, Tonto’s marriage to her Mr X who eventually was revealed as Mr. Churchill, crashed like a pack of cards.

Already, the actress has accused her husband of being a cheat and a woman beater. A claim her husband, Churchill, has vehemently denied.

Muma Gee and Prince Eke

Singer Muma Gee, used to be tagged one of the confirmed spinsters in the entertainment industry. She shamed her foes and critics when she got married to actor, Prince Ekeh, in a flamboyant wedding in Port Harcourt few years ago.

Though critics ‘abused’ the couple and said the marriage wouldn’t last; with some saying Muma married a ‘small boy’, others ‘hammered’ Prince Ekeh and called him a gold digger who was only interested in Muma’s money.

In any case, such ‘haters’ and critics perhaps saw the future as the marriage which produced three kids, including a set of twins, has collapsed just after six years. Prince was first to go on social media to announce and allege his wife “abandoned” their children. Subsequently, Muma’s pictures where her estranged husband allegedly battered her, also surfaced on the internet.

Ubi Franklin and Lilian Esoro

Record label owner, Ubi Franklin and his actress wife, Lilian Esoro, never for once said anything was wrong with their marriage. But so many reports filtered that the two were having serious squabble in their marriage.

It was alleged Lilian moved out of the home while so many others alleged Ubi used to batter her all the time. At so many events, the couple fuelled the rumour as they always came in differently and sat apart.

But it seems reconciliatory steps are being taken and normalcy may soon be restored in their home as the couple were recently pictured attending an event together, which made so many people feel they have made up eventually.

Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz

Tee Billz and Tiwa Savage’s destination wedding in Dubai in 2014 was the talk of town. So many ladies turned green with envy and wished they were in Tiwa’s shoes.

But the perfect couple picture they painted lasted for a short while. Nigerians woke up to a rude shock last year, when they saw Tee Billz had x-rayed his marriage via his Instagram account where he gave hints that their marriage was a troubled one and even went as far as accusing his wife of infidelity. But Tiwa couldn’t stand by and watch her name being dragged in the mud. She had to release a tell-it-all video and revealed all the messy cracks the marriage had suffered.

At the moment, news have been filtering that the couple are working so hard to come back together. It has yet to be established.

Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida

Like her or hate her, On Air Personality, Toke Makinwa, is among the most talked about celebs in Nigeria, more so when corporate brands made her their brand ambassador.

Her on and off relationship with fitness guru, Maje Ayida, added to the reason her case was always in most people’s mouth.

She finally shut up and stunned her critics when she quietly got married to Maje. Nobody saw it coming!

However, just few years later, the marriage crumbled, shattered!

But it seems Toke is making the best of the moment as she released a best seller novel where she talked about all she went through in her short marriage.

Her ex, who hadn’t said anything about the marriage break-up, went ahead to sue Toke over the book but the young lady is not deterred as she keeps promoting her novel in so many other countries.

PoliticsBreaking: Court Discharges 35 Biafra Agitators by akinlex(op):
A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has discharged 35 Biafra agitators charged with conspiracy to commit treasonable felony for want of diligent prosecution.

The accused were arrested on January 20 during a march to commemorate the inauguration of United States of America President, Mr Donald Trump.

Discharging the accused persons on Friday, the Magistrate, Mr Andrew Jaja, said treasonable felony was a capital offence, punishable by death.

According to the magistrate, the court had the constitutional power to discharge the accused persons on the ground of lack of diligent prosecution.

Jaja said that the accused had stayed 37 days in prison custody without the commissioner of police, Director of Public Prosecution and Attorney-General showing interest in the prosecution.

He said that the DPP, Attorney-General and Commissioner of Police did not indicate that there was prime facie to qualify the accused for prosecution or otherwise.

Jaja lamented that the court had adjourned many times to enable the three authorities to make inputs or show that the accused were liable to prosecution but to no avail.

He said, “The court has the right to grant them bail.

“The adjournment has elapsed, without the State Commissioner of police and AG making their inputs into the matter.

“The court has the right (power) to grant the accused persons bail or discharge them in line with the constitution.”

The magistrate, however, warned the accused to remain peaceful and desist from embarking on further protest.

Jaja said that they would not find it easy next time they were brought to court on the same charge.

There was jubilation outside the court by the relations and friends of the discharged persons.

TravelThird Batch: Another 180 Nigerians Return From Libya On Tuesday by akinlex(op): 3:21pm On Mar 03, 2017
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this on Friday while receiving the Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Commission, Sadiya Farouk, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

That is the third batch of Nigerians that will be returning from Libya in the last one month. 171 returned on February 21 while 161 returned on February 14.

Dabiri-Erewa said the Federal Government was expecting more migrants back in the country with the current happenings around the world.

She said her office would, therefore, be working with the commission to sensitise Nigerians on the need to avoid some countries.

She said, “Your visit is timely because we expect more migrants back home. In fact, 180 Nigerians are expected back from Libya on Tuesday.

“With what is going on around the world, it is going to be worse.

“We will work with your commission to continue to sensitise Nigerians on the need for them to know that some places are not just worth it.”

Earlier, Farouk had commended Dabiri-Erewa for her efforts towards ensuring that Nigerians in diaspora are treated with dignity.

She condemned the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa and pledged her commitment to a sustained advocacy to end such unwarranted attacks.

She promised to work with Dabiri-Erewa to educate Nigerians on the dangers of irregular migration.

Farouk said, “These programmes will better inform Nigerians on their options so they can make informed decision and develop realistic expectations when travelling outside the country.

“It is important to note that the issue of sensitisation is an offshoot of the National Migration Dialogue.

“The dialogue highlighted the need to establish a migration desk in all states and local governments which will provide sensitization from the grassroots level in order to curb the root causes of irregular migration.”

She said the commission has also developed a return, readmission and reintegration programme which provides referrals to settlement services for returnees.

To further cater for returnees, Farouk said the commission has also developed a standard operating procedure for the conduct of return, readmission and reintegration of Nigerians.

“What is currently obtainable is an ad-hoc approach which is not sustainable.

“The SOP when operationalised will ensure that the returning Nigerian migrants are adequately reintegrated into the society.

“The SOP has been validated by the relevant stakeholders but yet to be institutionalised. We, therefore, seek your partnership to ensure the operationalisation,” she added.
