Webmasters / Ready Made Scripts And CMS Like Wordpress Are Killing Web Programming In Nigeria by akinlex(m): 3:36pm On Mar 27, 2018
As the topic reads, ready made scripts and CMS/E-commerce like WordPress, Joomla, Magento etc are killing web programming in Nigeria.

Ever wondered why you give someone to handle your website and you get disappointed at the end? The so called web developer just goes around to look for wordpress themes and some plugins and just come up with something for you which does not meet your requirements. He will even go ahead to get some scripts which he cannot handle if problems arise because he does't have web programming/developing skills and leaves you hanging around looking for a well qualified Web Developer which you should have done in the first place.

Look around the web space of Nigeria, perhaps, websites in Nigeria, most are built with WordPress or Joomla ranging from blogs to some business websites. Most so called web developers in Nigeria can't develop something from scratch, they don't have web developing skills, they only know little of html, css and other basic web programming languages. When it comes to handling a real and tough web development project, they lag behind which is very bad.

Here are some web developer vacancies requirements in Canada below:

1. https://ca.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=2df4b495e2d60183&tk=1c9jt6qs040pkf6q&from=serp&vjs=3

2. https://ca.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=6a79548e8c6ed84c&tk=1c9jt5nqc40pkfp0&from=serp&vjs=3

3. https://ca.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=97bdd68278423195&tk=1c9jt5nqc40pkfp0&from=serp&vjs=3

4. https://www.workopolis.com/jobsearch/job/18018302

My question is how many Nigerian web developers can fit into this role? Do you really have these required skills?

Let web developers in Nigeria broaden their knowledge about web developing and management, learn how to develop websites/web applications from scratch(make it a hobby) not just using ready made scripts or plugins. The role web developer is a programmer who specializes in, or is specifically engaged in, the development of World Wide Web applications. (wikipedia).

Develop something, don't go for ready made, let's have real web developers in Nigeria and develop something tangible from scratch.

P.S: I am not saying using WordPress or other CMS is bad, infact some web developing companies require that you are skilled using them. My research/experience is based on some people who claim to be web developers on nairaland, not a whole set of Web Developers in Nigeria. Notice the initcaps in the later.
Webmasters / Want To Learn Angular? Here Are 9 Reasons To Learn Angular by akinlex(m): 2:46pm On Mar 27, 2018
If you are a web developer or an aspiring web developer, then Angular is what you should know. Angular is a Javascript Framework which a web developer is supposed to know. Many IT/Web developing companies requires it as part of programming language skill which you should possess while some who doesn't require is list it as a bonus for you.

If you ask, why Angular? why learning it?

1. Easy to Use:
Getting started with AngularJS is as easy as one, two and three. To have an Angular application up, you just require adding a few attributes to your HTML document. You can even work with Angular on your local system, absolutely without any web server. To get started, all you need to have a web browser and a text editor. Moreover, Angular team offers a step-by-step tutorial to help you get up and running your web app in a matter of minutes.

2. Powered by a Robust Community:
Angular is backed up by a thriving and active community of developers, which means you’ll get all your Angular queries answered for sure. Not only the community consistently contributes to the Angular project but also develops compatible libraries to make it even more powerful. That’s the reason; applications built with Angular produce better results. Moreover, there’s a plenty of great places – like LearnAngular – where you can learn Angular in a short span of time.

3. The Future is Bright:
As you may probably know already, the Angular team recently launched a whole new version of Angular (from Angular 4), called Angular 5.0. According to officials, the previous version 2.0 is a complete re-write with massive changes like internationalization, tight integration with ECMAScript 6 (ES6), comprehensive routing, hierarchical dependency injection, mobile-specific routing and more. This proves that Angular team is consistently working hard to make it world’s most powerful and robust JavaScript framework.

4. Built to be Testable:
Since JavaScript is a dynamic language, the Angular team has made it mandatory for any JavaScript code to go through a strong set of several tests. For end-to-end testing, Angular uses a tool called “Protractor” – a pre-built end-to-end test runner. You can also perform Unit Testing to individually test the smallest testable components of your application. Moreover, Angular offers AngularJS Batarang extension to let developers debug their applications inside Chrome browser.

5. Two-way Data Binding:
Two-way data binding, which automatically updates the view as soon as any change occurs in the model and vice-versa, is certainly one the most unique and powerful features in AngularJS. A typical MVC framework requires developers to manually store data in the model and place it into the view, which generates a considerable amount of boilerplate code. Angular’s two-way data binding, on the contrary, declaratively binds models to HTML elements which saves developers from writing any unnecessary code.

6. Developed and Maintained by Google:
Since AngularJS is built and maintained by Google, you as a developer can be sure that you’re working with a reliable code base that will scale efficiently with your projects. Unlike most of the JavaScript application frameworks, which are developed by a community of independent hobbyists, Angular is the brainchild of highly talented Google engineers Adam Abrons and Miško Hevery. That’s one of the main reasons developers prefer to use Angular over other JavaScript frameworks like Ember.js and Knockout.js.

7. Expresses UI Declaratively:
To define application’s user interface, Angular utilizes HTML which is a declarative programming language. Unlike an interface written in JavaScript, HTML produces a less convoluted and more intuitive user interfaces that are less likely to break. Besides, HTML lets you declare which controllers should be used for each UI element so that you could concentrate more on look and behavior of your app’s user interface. Simply define what you want and Angular will handle all the dependencies.

8. MVC Architecture:
AngularJS makes use of the original MVC (Model-View-Controller) software architectural pattern, but not in the traditional sense. Generally, developers are required to both split an application into various MVC components and then write all the essential code to connect them together. This is not the case with Angular, which only asks you to split the app and handles everything else by itself. In other words, Angular is quite close to MVVM (Model-View-Viewmodel) design pattern.

9. It Lets You Write Less Code:
All of the points mentioned above describe only one thing – you’ll need to write less code. Be it view or directive or two-way data-binding or any other feature, they all save developers from writing their own MVC pipeline. Where a typical web app has nearly 80% of code reserved for different DOM-related responsibilities, Angular on the other hand automatically cleans up all the unnecessary app code.

After all these above listed reasons, think and be convinced that you need to learn Angular Javascript Framework.

Literature / Onuorah Nzekwu Is Dead! (‘Eze Goes To School’ Author) by akinlex(m): 10:26am On Apr 22, 2017
The death has been announced of renowned writer and author of Eze Goes to School, Onuorah Nzekwu.

The literary doyen passed away at the age of 89, Friday night. The real cause of his death is still unknown at the moment.

Pa Nzekwu became popular for his book entitled Eze Goes to School, written in 1963.

While commiserating with his family over the incident, Abdulahi said the late writer would forever be remembered for his literary works, which preached about the importance of education.

“Yes, it is true but I can’t confirm what actually the real cause of his death was; but it is a big loss to the Nigerian literary community.

“We would miss him dearly and we pray God to grant the literary icon eternal rest in his bosom,” he told our reporter.

When asked on what ANA is doing to help the aged and struggling writers, Abdulahi said the association needed to take census of those writers alive so as to make the necessary moves.

“Well, ANA is doing its best but we still need to take census of those icons alive. We can do more of cooperative programmes for them. We might not have the money but we still need to know them.

“For instance, we have a large portion of land in Mpape, Abuja for the association, the government can come in and build houses for those literary icons,” he added.

Born February 19, 1928 in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Nzekwu was a writer who explored the internal conflicts inherent in the relationship of the educated Igbo to traditional Igbo culture.

Nzekwu’s first novel, Wand of Noble Wood (1961), portrays in moving terms the futility of a Western pragmatic approach to the problems created by an African’s traditional religious beliefs.

In 1963 he published a children’s book, Eze Goes to School (written with Michael Crowder), and his third novel, Highlife for Lizards, appeared in 1965.

He had worked as a teacher, civil servant and journalist, also wrote Wand of Noble Wood, Blade Among the Boys and other fictional and non-fictional works.

Webmasters / Which Cms Is Naij.com Using? by akinlex(m): 3:39pm On Apr 14, 2017
Ever wondered which cms or rather template naij.com is using?

There has been a lot of heated arguement online about this topic.

To clear the air and also to educate some script kiddies who are inquisitive about this topic, naij runs on wordpress, yes, wordpress, you read that well, you might be saying you have not been seeing the wp-****(whatever) in the address bar or in its links well that is because it is using a highly customised theme which was customised by some group of techies, just like nairaland also that uses smf but customised by seun, naij uses the php and ruby on rails framework and also it hosts all its pictures on a cloud server.

Naij is not the only one that uses that template, a Ghanaian news website yen.com.gh uses it, also a philippine news website kami.com.ph uses it too and a kenyan news website (i don't know if it's one person that runs them all). Its app is also built by a Genesys, an IT company based in UK.

So for those arguing about this topic, you now know that naij runs on wordpress but on a highly customisable theme/framework.

How do i know these things?

Anyway i am not in any way related to naij or any of its workers, i am just a techie with vast experience in the IT field, just a little research that took me not more than 3 hours made me to get all these informations. Looking through the page source won't help you get anything at all as this is common for script kiddies, but digging a little deep into inspecting the elements of the site will give you some few details and above all, much research on the internet.

Crime / Man Bags 2 Months Imprisonment For Stealing N170 by akinlex(m): 3:23pm On Mar 28, 2017
A Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced one Wisdom Gabriel, 22, to two months imprisonment for stealing N 170 at a chemist’s shop in old Karmo Market.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict N5,000 option of fine.
The judge said that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others that may be tempted to commit similar crime. Gabriel who resides at Aiko Estate, Life Camp Gwarinpa, pleaded with the judge to tamper justice with mercy.

He was found guilty on a count charge of stealing a box containing N170. The convict told the court that satan pushed him into the crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Helen Atusu of old Karmo arrested and brought the convict to Karmo Police Station, on March 24, 2017.

Dalhatu said that the complainant said that on the same date, the convict broke into her chemist’s shop at old Karmo Market and made away with her box containing N170.

She raised an alarm which led to the arrest of the convict with the help of one chukwuma Eze. The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under Section 287 of the Penal Code.

Romance / Have You Seen This "joystick Seat" Reserved For Men In Public Transport? by akinlex(m): 11:49am On Mar 28, 2017
A certain seat on Mexico’s Metro system is not as popular as the rest of them. Known as the ‘penis seat’, the plastic is moulded into a man’s chest and groin area, complete with belly button, nipples and flaccid penis.

Video from the public transport shows people sitting down without looking first, only to leap up again when they felt something unexpected between their legs.

It is reserved for men only, leading some to claim the move is sexist. However, it was actually put there as part of a campaign against sexual harassment.
