Konza Technopolis has a wildlife corridor designed to protect the local ecosystem and its inhabitants, including ostriches. Before construction of the city began, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) moved some animals out of the fenced area within the city limits. However, some animals, including a few ostriches, remained in the fenced up area to spice up the natural ambiance and promote eco-tourism within the smart city's boundaries.

Does it make sense to you that GDP fell so suddenly only in 2023 and 2024? It’s simple exchange rate dynamics at play. When we rebase again or allow our inflation and purchasing power catch up completely with the devaluation in just a few months or years, the GDP gets back to circa 500 Billion dollars suddenly again, then you’ll come here saying the figure is fake.

The fall is not sudden but gradual, starting immediately after you rebased. Nigeria's GDP is just about in its proper place right now at around 180B — The Kenyan GDP is almost catching up at 131B. In fact if Tinubu does not pull up his socks the catchup will be complete before the decade ends. Whichever the case, dont confuse exchange rate dynamics and rebasing, the latter is done to keep up with the evolution in prices. Your president's decision to let the local currency float freely has seen naira lose 70% of its formerly artificially high value, which is exactly what we are seeing because your GDP has dropped nearly 70% from the heydays of the 2014 rebase. Just a point of note, you could have a trillion dollar GDP and I would not say its fake, even though I know it is. I never said so when it was 576. GDP is a very artificial number that depends heavily on how you measure it — exchange rates, inflation adjustments, and rebasing can all drastically shift the figure without reflecting any real change in people’s daily lives.

For context, Àlaro city was launched In late 2019 and went on break for a year due to covid while Tatu city started in 2012 and konza was launched in 2013.

Tatu city does not have 80 industries set up, it has 80 industries registered which is exactly the same number Alaro has courtesy of their website.
Tatu city has more industries with actual physical structures up only because it outdates Alaro, which is to be expected.

Konza city is a pipe dream. They have only built roughly a couple kilometers of horizontal structures and a couple of cheap buildings since 2013. It's not exactly the utopia it was advertised as. If they keep on building the types of building they are currently, putting up, even Tatu city would be a much better city than Konza.

Northlands is a joke. U already know that one would fail because it's a glorified residential estate and not a city.

Wrong again, as usual. Actually, out of all cities mentioned the only one that cannot fail is Northlands city because of who backs it - The Kenyatta Family. This is their baby and they are stopping at nothing to ensure it is the best planned, most advanced city in Kenya. The city comes with its own runway, the Nairobi Gate Industrial Park, and will be hosting multinationals, including UN bodies. The purely industrial zone is already operational with a fully integrated Customs Control Area (CCA) for seamless incorporated customs control - the first in EA. What I'm basically telling you is if you are banking on any project to fail this is definitely not one of them.

No doubt Alaro is slumbering along at snail's pace but she has a long way to go. COVID did not stop the construction industry anywhere, in Kenya things continued being built while adhering to mask mandates. We literally built dams and other mega infrastructures during COVID because of eased logistics with the minimal traffic. Nairobi expressway for instance was built from 2020-2022. Was Alaro a unique case? At least we finally get to see a proper aerial. Alaro is trying but is lagging behind his mates Konza and Tatu City which are no longer in this league in terms of space take up. The industrial zone of Tatu city is already at over 70 companies set up or in their final touches. Alaro will soon be overtaken by the new Northlands city which is coming up super fast.

I have a feeling it's going to be Nova piooner group since they have a pre existing relationship with the Rendevour group and they also announced plans to venture into Nigeria and Ghana. I'm a bit skeptical though because I have seen the owner hint that the school would be in lekki, at one of the plots he checked out in 2019. If it's the Nova piooner group, that would make it two schools for them in Lagos. But if it's not, then it's probably another group. Both ways, it's a win for lagos...

European aerospace giant Airbus has successfully completed the first stratospheric test flight in Kenya of its high altitude communication drone, which also marked the official launch of this communication technology that is being hailed as a cheaper alternative to Elon Musk's Starlink satellite technology. The drone flew 60,000 feet for over 13 days (20th Jan to 1st Feb) before successfully landing back at the newly constructed and purpose-built AALTOPORT in Laikipia County, Kenya, the first facility of its kind in the world. The port is where the Zephyrs will be assembled, launched and recovered. Zephyr HAPS was equipped with a direct-to-device (D2D) 4G/5G connectivity payload. The system, designed to be compatible with standard smartphones, was tested to evaluate video and data service performance. Additionally, AALTO validated enhancements to Zephyr’s flight envelope, improving stability and overall performance. With Kenya emerging as the company's key operational base, AALTO’s progress signals a new era in high-altitude connectivity, bridging the gap between aerospace and satellite services for global markets.

The company plans to set up five AALTOPORTs in total around the world. The longest Zephyr flight conducted to date lasted 64 days, with the aircraft able to reach a maximum altitude of 75,000ft, beating NASA's Pathfinder Helios. The flight was the highest and longest unrefueled flight over Africa yet and allowed the company to begin using its Elvis powered vehicle to launch the aircraft, a process that has traditionally been done by hand.

“Through their support, national authorities led by the Kenya Space Agency and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority have demonstrated their vision to champion cutting-edge aerospace technologies,” says AALTO, while hailing the African nation’s “pioneering regulatory landscape”.

Companies increasingly see Zephyr as a flying cell tower enabling the expansion of mobile network coverage in remote areas where building traditional cell phone masts would be prohibitively expensive. I do tend to agree with those who say Africans are their own worst enemies. Instead of accommodating the vulnerable, the politicians find a way to make life even harder for their own people. In the first video, the govt of Ethiopia with its history of youth neglect and repression, and more recently, co-optation through patronage politics, has left young Ethiopians no option but to cross into Kenya each day in search of work where they get exploited as cheap manual labor doing menial tasks. In the second, Uganda after criminalizing LGBTQI+ has left its own people no choice, further increasing the number of asylum seekers seeking refuge in Kenya. A lot of Kenyans dont agree with the global LGBTQ agenda but still tolerate them. You dont have to pile misery onto someone who is already suffering.
