Politics / EU Backs Ngozi Okonjo-iweala For WTO Job. by Alexbond(m): 7:05am On Oct 06, 2020
EU member states have thrown their weight behind two women candidates to lead the World Trade Organization, one from Nigeria and the other from South Korea, diplomats said on Monday.

European envoys gave their support to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s former finance minister, and Yoo Myung-hee, South Korea’s trade chief, at a meeting in Brussels.

The long-expected endorsement was blocked until the last minute by Hungary, which had lent its support to Britain’s former trade minister Liam Fox and Amina Mohamed of Kenya.

The EU’s backing gives the two candidates a big boost, coming a day before an initial pool of eight candidates to replace Roberto Azevedo, who stepped down as the WTO director-general last month, is whittled down to two.

The choice of Okonjo-Iweala comes amid calls for an African to finally get a shot at running the organisation, which has counted three director-generals from Europe, and one each from Oceania, Asia and South America since its creation in 1995.

The WTO aims to select a winner in November, but some have expressed concern that political bickering could draw out the process.

The global trade body has faced relentless attacks from Washington, which has crippled the WTO dispute settlement appeal system and threatened to leave the organisation altogether.

A good one for Naija! keep the endorsement coming!!!

Getting listed on the NYSE, a historic merger indeed.
Business / Nigerian Firm acquires U.S oil company. by Alexbond(m): 8:52am On Jun 04, 2018
IBETO Cement Company Limited has announced its acquisition of Century Petroleum Corporation, a United States (U.S.) publicly traded petroleum exploration and production company.

The company said it acquired 70 per cent of Century Petroleum, resulting in the reverse merger of the cement manufacturer’s assets with the U.S. firm’s.

A reverse takeover or reverse merger takeover is the acquisition of a public company by a private company so that the private company can bypass the lengthy and complex process of going public.

The transaction typically requires reorganisation of capitalisation of the acquiring company.

The Ibeto Group Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Cletus M. Ibeto, has taken over as Chairman of the firm’s Board of Directors, Ibeto Cement said in a statement to The Nation yesterday.

It described the deal as a “historic reverse merger” which had paved the way for Ibeto Cement’s listing on the U.S. Stock Exchange.

It added: “By this reverse merger which is expected to be sealed and publicly presented in 90 days, Ibeto Cement will achieve the historic milestone of being the first Nigerian firm to be listed in the United States Stock Exchange.”

Dr. Ibeto, according to the statement, explained the strategy behind the merger.

He said: “It has been a long journey since I have been in business and none of our companies or businesses has gone public so far.

“In line with our collective dreams to place Nigeria in its rightful place in the comity of nations, we had to come up with a strategy to build a formidable structure for companies that will outlive me.”

He lauded stakeholders in the historic merger “including the government, shareholders, investors, and the larger Nigerian society for this landmark development which will improve the level of actualisation of the huge Cement business opportunities around Africa.

“Everybody knows that Ibeto Group has billions of dollar investments in Nigeria; but the time has come to replicate the successes we have enjoyed in Africa and globally. Century Petroleum Corp is the vehicle for using our wealth of experience for the benefit of people within and beyond Africa.

“We will use it as a catalyst of empowerment for all Nigerians the world over as the company’s shares will be traded internationally.”

lbeto Cement Limited, located in BunduAma, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, began cement bagging operations at its bagging terminal in Port Harcourt in 2005.

It is an ultra-modern plant with a flat-storage capacity of 50,000 metric tons and a production capacity of 1,500,000 metric tons per annum, which translates to a production capacity of 4,000+ metric tons per day.

you would realise there are a lot of reasons why it's not the best decision when you remove religious sentiment from it.

This territorial issue has been tendered to the UN for peace resolution between both nations then US acted before UN decided. It's violation of international law we all pretend to promote and it seems the US tend to be democratic in intentional deplomacy only when it's favoured.

The goal here is political; the US is doing everything to ensure it Israeli ally becomes the region power in mid east irrespective of whenever means they achieve that.

The increase in Portifolio investment only indicates foreign investors are trying to diversify there Portifolio by investing in emerging markets. Encouraging increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) should be Nigeria's priority because that is the only capital investment coming into the real economy.

I doubt this, I'm of the opinion that with the current state of Nigerian affairs, Public University funding might continue to deteriorate leading to more decay in public universities infrastructure there by leading to more patronage of private universities. Private universities will be the pride of Nigeria higher education in decades to come. That's my take!

Career / 21 Things You Can Control (even When You Think You Can't) by Alexbond(m): 12:18am On May 03, 2018
“We can’t always control what happens in our lives – things will go well, things will go poorly – but what we can control is our response to those events.” – Kenneth H. Blanchard

Life is full of twists and turns, highs and lows. Often, we find ourselves worn down and exhausted from all of the work that it takes to get through from day to day. What many don’t realize is that we often waste our precious energy, focusing our attention on situations that are outside of our control. There are many aspects of life that we can’t change, but that doesn’t mean we are powerless.

By acknowledging the things that we CAN control, such as how we react to these challenges in life, we can empower ourselves to rise above our struggles and come out on top.

You Can’t Control Everything, But You CAN Always Control These 21 Things in Life:

#1 – Your Level of Honesty

While you may be put into situations where you are tempted to be dishonest, you ultimately decide how you choose to react. No one can force you to lie or deceive others.

#2 – Whether You Ask for Help

There will be challenges and difficulties in your life. If you are struggling, only you can choose to ask for help, reaching out to the people that you trust most.

#3 – Your Level of Fitness

You are only given one body, which means that it is important to keep it healthy and in optimal working condition. You choose how often you exercise, if at all.

#4 – Your Judgment of Others

The choice whether or not to judge those around you is completely in your hands. This negative influence in life will only tear you down, but you have to choose to not engage in this bad habit.

#5 – Your Beliefs

While others may try to influence your beliefs or open your eyes to new ideas, at the end of the day only you have the ability to decide what you see as the truth in life.

#6 – Your Sleep

Sleep is necessary to allow the body to rest, recuperate and prepare itself for another day. The amount of sleep that you get, and the quality of your sleep is in your control.

#7 – Risks Taken

Throughout life, you will be given the opportunity to take risks and step out of your comfort zone at every turn. Whether you choose to embrace these opportunities or not is up to you.

#8 – Your Attitude

You may not be able to control what you are experiencing in the world, but you do have complete control over how you choose to react to it.

#9 – Who You Listen To

Everyone has an opinion, and most people will be more than willing to share their opinion with you if given the chance. Whether or not you listen to them, however, is your choice.

#10 – Your Ability to Keep Trying

There are going to be times in life that we fall short or fail to live up to our expectations. It is up to you to decide whether you get back up and try again.

#11 – The Food You Eat

The food that you are putting into your body is the fuel that keeps you going. If you are looking to look and feel healthier, start by fueling yourself with healthier options.

#12 – Kindness

You alone get to choose how you are going to treat the people that you meet. It is your choice whether you treat people with kindness or contempt.

#13 – Your Smile

A simple smile can lift your mood, encourage others and help you to see the positive side of any situation. You choose whether you put on a smile or allow yourself to frown.

#14 – Your Friends

It is often said that your best friends are the family that you choose for yourself. If you are going to spend your life with these people, choose wisely!

#15 – Your Words

The words that you speak on a daily basis, and who you say them to, is completely up to you. Choose your words wisely, once they have been spoken you can’t take them back.

#16 – Your Self Talk

The words that you are speaking to others aren’t the only words in your control. Your self talk can either build you up or tear you down, and you choose which message that will be.

#17 – Your Thoughts

No one else can control the thoughts and ideas that you hold within your mind. This includes thoughts about yourself, others, life as a whole or the situations that you find yourself in.

#18 – Your Perspective

Building upon the idea of controlling your thoughts, you are the only person with the ability to control your perspective in life. Controlling your perspective can set you up for success.

#19 – What You Are Grateful For

Gratefulness is a powerful tool for good mental health. You choose whether you acknowledge the blessings that you have in this life and the things you are grateful for.

#20 – Your Focus

You will develop and grow where you focus most, so choose this carefully! Whether you are focused on building a family or your career, for example, is entirely up to you.

#21 – How You Express Your Feelings

While you can’t entirely choose your feelings, you can choose how you express them. While you may experience sadness, joy or anger, the ability to express them in a respectful and productive way can make the difference.

I thought it would be educative.

Anyways, It seems no medical discovery can be acknowledged in curing of HIVS if it's not coming from the States...It's good they have finally found one.
I hope UN/WHO would help to subsidise the drug when it is finally produced for the poor HIV syndrome carriers.

Even if work with a company that those not pay with Payoneer, you can easily request payment from your Payoneer account then Payoneer will send the company a message on your behave requesting for your money.
