Christ be magnify. This is a wonderful piece. My brother accuse me of that too. He felt with the way I preach, people will sin more. But I do tell him that is not so. I told him when the Bible says ''... but where sin abounded, grace did much more abound'' ( Romans 5:20b), it is that " The Lord is not slacking concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is LONGSUFFERING (The longsuffering of our Lord is grace) to us-ward, not willing that ANY should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance". (2Peter 3:9). Repentance ( to turn back), is that you believe and allow Christ carry the burden (sin etc) for you. Amen!

This is a beautiful comparison. I have never seen nor imagined it this way. Hmm, indeed a lot of things truly point to Christ in the Old Testament; The Bread (manna) from heaven (Exodus 16:15-John 6:58), the sacrificial lamb, the passover lamb ( Exodus 12:13) Cos He was crucified on the day of the passover ( Luke22:15), the rock at mount sinai, the living spring of water etc. Hallelujah!

Religion / Re: Jonathan's Son Mephibosheth : A Picture Of You And I In Christ - Olamide Obire by AlexRi(f): 9:36am On Jul 30, 2018
jiggaz:
Believers, see our Saviour Jesus Christ and His love for us in the Old Testament story of David (a picture of God the Father) who cut a covenant with his beloved Jonathan (a picture of Christ) and because of this covenant, showed grace to Jonathan's son Mephibosheth (you and I in Christ.) Mephibosheth got to eat at the Lord's table all the days of his life ONLY because of the covenant that David had with Jonathan. That's our life in Christ today!

Mephibosheth was lame in both feet but do you know how he became lame? When his grandfather Saul's house heard that Saul was dead, they feared for their lives. Was this not David that their father Saul tried to kill several times? They thought David was coming to exterminate them; this is a picture of the world and even believers today thinking that God is still angry with them and wants to punish them for their sins and those of their fathers. So they fled (a picture of doing things by human effort in a bid to escape God's judgment).

Jonathan's son, Mephibosheth (a picture of the world that God so loved) was dropped by his nurse as they were fleeing from David (a picture of God the Father) who was not even in pursuit, and the boy became lame in both feet; because he was made to do something that he thought was going to help him escape punishment from David! Mephibosheth's nurse is a picture of ministers of death: law preachers/those who preach that you have to "play your part" by keeping the Ten Commandments and doing "good things" before you can get right with God or escape judgment. Galatians 5:4 tells us this is how to get cut off from Christ:

"For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace."

Beloved of God, we are made righteous only by the obedience of Christ (Romans 5:19.) This is the only brand of righteousness that saves from the fiery judgment of the law and it is the gift of God to all who believe (Romans 5:17.) When you seek His (Christ's gift of) righteousness, all other things, including grace to live right and reign in life (reign over sins, sickness, oppression, whatever,) will be added unto you.

Beloved of God, God is not in pursuit of you to punish you. He is not waiting for you to mess things up so He can let the devil have a go at you or unleash a series of unfortunate events on you. He knows that only the death of the Innocent - Jesus Christ- can free you from the shackles of sin, the judgment of the law and eternal damnation, so He gave His own Son to die for us to set us free indeed! See the counsel of our Lord God in Isaiah 30:14-17 (MSGsmiley

...“Your salvation requires you to turn back to Me
and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves.
Your strength will come from settling down
in complete dependence on Me—..."

Trying to escape the judgment of the law by our own efforts (law-keeping, good works to get right with God) has dire consequences. Romans 7:5 says having this old nature, being under law and not under grace, leads to producing "a harvest of sinful deeds that result in death." The letter kills.

But check out David's heart to Saul's house that thought he wanted to exterminate them. In 2 Samuel 9:9 David asked,

“Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

Many of us do not yet realise that our invitation to the Lord's table is ONLY because of the covenant that we have with God through our Saviour Jesus Christ. It is for Christ's sake ONLY that God saves us and shows us kindness, not because of our filthy rags righteousnesses from keeping the law and our carnal (fleshly/human) efforts at pleasing Him or avoiding His wrath, which will only cause lameness (remember Mephibosheth) and death! See Romans 7:5.

The account of the meeting between David and Mephibosheth is in 2 Samuel 9. See verse 7-8-

“Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” 8 Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?"

David's kindness to Mephibosheth because of Jonathan is a picture of God's grace - undeserved, unmerited favour through Christ and Christ alone. Look what happened next - after David gave him all that he promised, 13

"And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table; he was lame in both feet."

But wait. Shouldn't verse 13 read the reverse? Shouldn't it be: "Mephibosheth always ate at the king's table because he lived in Jerusalem?" How can always eating at the king’s table cause him to live in Jerusalem? This is like me saying "the boy lived in my house because he ate at my table." The ideal thing to say would be "The boy ate at my table because he lived in my house."

Beloved of God, lame (imperfect) Mephibosheth's living in Jerusalem is a picture of the salvation of we imperfect people in Christ: our holiness and our living a blessed and righteous life. Many believers think we must be holy and live right by our own efforts first before we can eat at the Lord's table (enjoy His goodness and mercy.) Not so! Eating at the Lord's table a.k.a hearing the word of faith, being conscious of His presence, His goodness, mercy and love for us, is what causes us to live right. It is the goodness of God that leads to repentance.

When you continue to eat at His table, even with your lameness (sins, addictions, oppression, etc) you will be made whole! It is Christ's "Neither do I condemn you" that makes us "go and sin no more."

The Holy Spirit will teach you all things.

Believe Right and you will Live Right.

I also attend a grace+works church... Just that since i know the truth i reject most of their mixed messages grin.. It's a pity, but there's no church in Nigeria that teaches pure grace... Am yet to see one. Most of my feeding on the word of God is through online and YouTube videos of preachers of the grace Gospel... Mostly white preachers though... The Lord is good..
I'm yet to see one too. But then the gospel of grace must not stop, in our little way, we will continue to propagate the crucified and resurrected Christ only. Christ be praise

I attend one of such churches. The Preaching is, grace+works. The sunday school class is quite different though. A Sunday School teacher there preaches and teaches grace only. This same brother really helped me (unknown to him though) in affirming to myself that, what I believe is the truth cos i used to feel like the odd one in my reactions to the messages from the pulpit sometimes. I decided to preach and teach Grace Only alongside this brother as sunday school teachers. And God has been faithful. Recently, one sunday school teacher shared a testimony of how he got to understand the message of Grace. According to him, he has this holier than thou attitude and that anyone falling short of his 'holy' standard is going to hellfire straight(LOL). But glory to God, that has change due to the preaching of Grace in the sunday class. Hallelujah!

What Alan Paton wrote about God's Love: "This love is not a partial skeptical love which seeks to embrace only those who echo our feelings, hopes, aspirations, likes and dislikes nor is it reciprocal. Rather, it is a love that is trusting and opens towards ALL, both friends and foes. It is unsuspecting and it seeks to win over the opponent even as he may be planning to stab us viciously in the back". There has never been, there can never be and there will never be this kind of LOVE as & outside God's LOVE! bloodofthelamb, keep up the good work. Christ is magnify! Amen!

This is born out of fear and doubt. The Bible says "There is no fear in Love (God is Love); but perfect love casteth out fear..." (1John 4:cool. God's grace has always been from everlasting, it was only made manifest in this lastday. Think about this: what qualified man to be created in God's image and to have dominion over all of God's creation? Definetely, not his efforts nor good works as man was even the last to be created. It is all about God (Isaiah 48:11a) and His love (unchanging and unconditional) for man (1John 4:10). Keep up the good work jiggaz. Christ be praise.

Powerful and 'wisdomful' piece! Thank you Jesus
jiggaz:
1 Corinthians 1:24
....to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

People today run after two things: miraculous signs and wonders, and knowledge. It was no different in Bible times. The apostle Paul acknowledged that “Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom”. (1 Corinthians 1:22)

So when Paul preached Christ crucified as God’s solution to them, the message was “to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness”. (1 Corinthians 1:23) They didn’t understand how getting a revelation of Jesus and His death could give them the miracles they needed or the wisdom they wanted.

Beloved, we don’t have to run after miracles or wisdom today. We just need to run after Jesus because He is “the power of God and the wisdom of God”. The more we know Christ and Christ crucified, the more we will have the power and wisdom of God.

Several church members have shared how they have seen the power of God blast financial debts out of their lives. Not knowing what to do about their debts, they looked to the Lord to deliver them. And the Lord was able to do so mightily because He is indeed the power of God.

So if you are facing a financial debt, Christ has the power to remove the debt. And because He is also the wisdom of God, He will show you where you went wrong and teach you how to stay out of debt!

Let me give you another illustration. Let’s say a man, whose wife has left him, looks to Jesus to bring his wife back. Christ, the power of God, brings about a miraculous restoration of their marriage. But it is Christ, the wisdom of God, who will teach the husband how to keep his wife by showing him what he had done wrong and what to do to strengthen the marriage. If the husband does not have this wisdom, it will only be a matter of time before the same problems surface and his wife leaves him again.

My friend, Christ is both the power and wisdom of God to us. As the power of God, He removes obstacles in our paths. As the wisdom of God, He continually directs our paths!

Thought For The Day

As the power of God, Christ removes obstacles in our paths. As the wisdom of God, He continually directs our paths!

Bro Jiggaz, you're blessed. More grease to your elbow for the Lord is thy strength. A wonderful piece you have there!
jiggaz:
Believers, in God's eyes, the difference between the righteous and the wicked is not what they do or do not do. It is HOW they are made righteous. When your believing is right, right living will follow.

The bible tells us in Romans 5:19 - "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, much more by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous."

Committing acts of sin is not what makes a person a sinner. Adam's sin made the whole human race sinners. Wicked. Committing acts of sin, alongside sickness, stress, depression, lack, oppression, etc are fruits of the old nature (sinner nature) that was inherited from Adam. Everyone with this old nature is under Law. As long as this old nature is intact, sin will multiply. Because "the strength of sin is the Law" (1 Cor. 15:56,) those who try to keep the Law in order to be righteous only strengthen the grip of sin over their lives. The more people with this old nature try to keep the Law, the more they sin. See Romans 7:5:

"When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death."

By the same token, keeping the Law and doing righteous things is not what makes a person righteous in the sight of God. Many non-Christians do their best not to sin but this does not mean they are saved. Romans 3:20 says "For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are."

In Christ, we are a new creation. Reigning over sin, addiction, sickness, stress and all earthly ills are fruits of the new nature that we have in Christ as it is written in Romans 5:17 -

"For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)"

This "death" that reigned through Adam's offense is not just a physical death. It is death preceded by its symptoms - all of the curses in Deuteronomy 28 and every earthly ill - acts of sin, sickness, stress, disease, foolish mistakes, depression, oppression, every ill that came as a result of Adam's sin. As the righteousness of God in Christ, we reign in life over all these things.

Romans 7:4 also shows us how we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God - only when we are dead to the Law and united with Christ!

4 "So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God."

Remember 2 Corinthians 5:21
"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." Christ performed a perfect work in cleansing us of all our unrighteousnesses and giving us His own righteousness as a gift.

In Christ, we are made righteous apart from works. In Him, God sees us as 100% righteous. He sees us as Christ is (righteous,) even when we sin, but we do not continue to sin. Why? Because with His gift of righteousness comes no condemnation; there is no condemnation for all who are in Him (says Romans 8:1) and it is His "Neither do I condemn you" that makes us "go and sin no more." In Christ, under grace, you will not continue to sin.

Believe Right and you will Live Right!

I'm humbled @Pressplay. Also, compare Isaiah50v8-9 with Romans3v33-34, you'll understand that it has been God who justify not man's futile works. Man's efforts can't justify but it is the will of God that the Law proceed to show sin and then Christ be revealed in the later days even though His sacrifice has been from the foundation of the world (1Peter 1v20 And 1Cor 16v25-26). Shalom!
