nextstep: allCopacetic, It looks like they've managed to make an entire roof with panels, with channels for drainage. Do you think the roof leaks when it rains? I was trying to make a roof for a hostel made from solar panels, but we had so many issues with leakage that I had to go back to use traditional aluminium span, and then panels on top. Very innovative design - the V roof is a smart idea - neatly done. I cannot say for fact if it leaks . I have never been in the station during the rain, but i strongly doubt that it does. I believe The company that did the installation has a presence here on Nairaland. Very bold move on your part, I applaud your effort. |

InvertedHammer: NB: When buying electrical cables, your main interest should be the copper inside not the insulation coating.
1.5mm, 4mm, 6mm, 10mm, etc. Each one comes with Amps rating. It is all about the guage. Eg. Thicker 16mm is used to draw from electric poles to a house. 10mm is used for a/c and refrigerator outlets(15A sockets) while 1.5mm is used for electric bulbs. 10mm 2 for AC ke? You're very correct. guage is very important. But much more than that, the physical properties of the conductor itself matters a whole lot. Two things determine the Ampacity of a conductor: The cross sectional area ( or size, or guage) and the physical properties of that conductor. A unit length of 6mm 2 Copper conductor has much greater Ampacity than a corresponding length of 6mm 2 Aluminium conductor, despite being of the same size and length. This is Because thier physical properties are different. Processed copper exists in different levels of purity and composition which affects the physical properties they possess. Some cables might reach or be close to the standard cross-sectional size... BUT are made out of copper alloys (with lower specific heat capacity and conductivity). They will consequently not perform as well as those with a much purer conductor. In addition to sizing , the nature of the conductor in itself is pretty important. |

mufutau55: @Abunafiu I have never had the opportunity to thank you for all your wahalas on this our Ilorin project. Thank you. You have been a God-sent on this project and God will keep on blessing you. The borehole problems, the water stand problems, and now the fake wire case were both stressful... but we came thru in flying color.
@Allcopacetic I have never stopped praising you. When I say good thing about supplier/contractors; I surely have my reason. I and my friends referred to you have bought many electrical products and no-one has ever come back to complain.
As a kobo-kobo man, I have many ongoing projects all around... Please choose your products and suppliers carefully and wisely.
Hajji M. abunafiu: I want to specially appreciate Allcopacetic for his support. Yes I used to believe I have experience in buying wires but mehn my GP drop when I was faced with reality. This shop is called JEZICO along Taiwo Road, Ilorin. I went in with full confidence and demanded for Coleman wires. I was convinced I was holding the original wire since Coleman was engraved on the insulation. At first I thought there was no need to inform Allcopacetic since all he said was found on the cable. I sent him pictures and then called him. When I then told him the price (9.5k Pre coil of 2.5mm), he told me he was sure I was buying the fake, I even managed to convince him that it was engraved black bra bla he said its fake. I began to sweat because it was a stressful day already. I then begged him to speak with the seller so I called back. They were both speaking igbo on phone but I am sure the guy was arguing with him and suddenly he later agreed to bring another type for 13.5k per coil. I now had the opportunity to compare both. The fake has thin copper and fat insulator while the original has thick copper and thin insulation. That night I came back home past 10pm so I end t round my house wiring, I discovered I was sold mixtures of both original and fake. Anyway thanks so much for the eye opener.
So I want everyone here to always buy from trusted suppliers. Don't act pennywise pound foolish.
Allcopacetic has his name in gold in this.
I also want to commend him for the accuracy in his supplies. I was privileged to to audit the electrical materials and fitting he spilled. All was intact. The owner then said "I told you he is a man of his words ". He never wanted to audit but I insisted. With many of you in Nigeria, Nigeria is blessed. Pls keep it up sir.
I hope to buy my electrical fittings too soon. I hope you now stock 3w, 5w LED bulbs for those of us who use solar. spyder880: Allcopacetic is very honest, I bought some electrical materials from him even without meeting him in person, and he sent them to me, good quality, complete quantity. I hope to buy from him again soon. kopell: Hajji you've said it all. These two gentlemen are amazing humans to do business with. Your koko -koko thing springing up all over, I fear you Ooo my oga @ the top I salute you my ogas. Much thanks Sirs |

mavverick: Nawa o
Surely these manufacturers can do something about this, every cable can have a batch number, put this in a database batch number/manufacture date. If you want to buy a cable, just go onto the website enter the batch number and the details come up, if nothing comes up, then you know its fake.
I mean buyers should be careful with fake, but talk of manufacturers helping their customers ensure they buy the real thing, this is one sure way. you make a very solid point there. I believe it is safe to say manufacturers are not proactive enough,...probably because Nigeria is a very huge market and they're still feeding fat, & raking in enough Naira to stay profitable despite the adulteration. So they can still afford to be complacent . introducing batch numbers might not completely stop the proliferation of fake cables but that kind of initiative will go a very long way. it might however have limitation in cases where we supply hundreds of coils, |

another thing i notice is affordability.. went to asaba and inquire about coleman or kablemetal they said dont sell them here cause of cost.. they have different brand thats cheaper.. affordability isn't the problem, Profitability is... brands like CUTIX are widely used in the East, yet it's one of the most expensive. genuine cables aren't good business.. profit wise., Because of the "seemingly" high cost, the profit margin hs to stay low for people to afford it. and that greatly limits your room for a big profit. you can sell foreign cables with as much as 15% - 25% , but you will be "hard-pressed" to make up to 7% on most Nigerian Cables as a distributor, if you want to stay competitive. so you can guess what the more popular choice will be |
