Ngozi123: Fair enough. The one picture of the completely naked woman seems to be some sort of ritual or something as I've not seen anything like that before. Most men and women tended to cover up below the abdomen area and not above it. it was perfectly normal at the time and not something that should be sneered at. we are not sneering at it. simply telling you other tribes wore clothes back then. nothing malicious. just stating facts |

Nahwao: Yoruba women 1928.
Oyibo people 1930s:
yoruba are more advanced than oyinbo. oyinbos are neanderthal cavemen who just got lucky. before this their civilization they were living in caves eating rats and mices and bugs. its documented history. so that white man whom you adore has not always being this advanced. he got lucky. |

Hihihi cone head you do know dahomey and togo are part of the yoruba empire ? so the dahomey women was our women fighting us and us yorubas are gentlemen so we cant fight women back so we just chilled out. thats what that fight was about. it was internal beef between yoruba men and women and we squashed it after the women took out their anger. that aint nothing but spouse beef |

Ngozi123: I think that you've used the wrong expression here...
What has this got to do with me asking you to provide proof of date for the picture you posted? I gave you an example of how one can prove the date of a picture and you're going off on a tangent.
As for your comment about the Igbos being exposed to civilisation, I have two points to make:
1) Suggesting that covering up= civilisation is a very eurocentric way of thinking. Wearing clothes that suit your environment is perfectly rational- ask the ancient Egyptians. 2) If the Igbos became civilised "very late", as you put it, but they managed to 'catch up' and even supersede other Nigerians just 30 years after this picture was taken, what does that say about these Nigerians who were supposedly 'civilised' at an early age? why dont you walk around naked today seeing as you are afrocentric ? lolzzz |

Scholes007: To avoid taking this to a childish display, it very important i bring to your notice the ignorant character of yours. Let me remind you that the africans has a peculiar civilization which is always shaped by their environment. You thinking that the igbos in 1920's have on civilization shows how myopic you are. The picture below is the aba women riot done by mostly igbo women and other neighbouring tribe to protest against the warrant chiefs in 1929. http://kentakepage.com/the-aba-womens-war/ thats very honorable. however in 1929 we would not let our women fight in wars or riot. thats the job of the oduduwa men. we are warriors bro. women dont fight our battles |

Yoruba photography was even far more advanced than those of Oyibos then? Sophistication....
Nah real wah! bros, yorubas have been civilized for over 6000 years. we are the ancient egyptians who built the pyramids and sphinx before the white invasion kicked us into the interiors of africa during the ptolemy era. we were once more advanced than white people. when we were in ancient egypt white people were our slaves. it is documented on the walls of egypt. so dont act surprised that our photography in 1928 was more advanced than oyinbo photography in 1930. we were superior to oyinbo but we lost our divine power . next time when you hear oduduwa you have to bow down to a superior force. you have no choice bro. even in our current fallen state we are still swagged out lolzzz |

Ngozi123: Stop fishing for likes. From what I've seen on Nairaland and in real life, most of the people who comment on Igbos being light skinned are not Igbo. The only reason some Igbos comment on it is because they've seen non-Igbos commenting on it before. Seeing light skinned people is normal for us. Listen, i dont expect you to bite the hand that feeds you, so i expect this comment from you. but most of us who are not igbo know igbo chestbeat all the time about being lightskin lolzzz |

Ngozi123: I have definitely seen more non-Igbos comment on the number of light skinned Igbos than Igbo people themselves. The only reason some Igbos bring it up is because so many non-Igbos like to comment on it. To us, it's normal. nah, it is because of your chest-beating that everyone brings up stuff on you. FACTS. you never hear people bringing up issues on hausa or benin or fulani people who are lightskin because they never make it an issue. but i have seen millions of igbo chestbeat about how they are lightskin and better looking because they are lightskin. if you agree with me press LIKE |

Ngozi123: Their make up suggests that this picture was taken in the 50's or 60's. That was the trendiest fashion then- note that black women didn't have specialised make up until this period. Do you have confirmation that this was taken in the 30's? not 30s, 1928. it is documented picture in the archives |

Ngozi123: You do realise that the majority of Igbos are dark skinned, right? Moreover, there were plenty of light skinned people around at that time- just look at the documentation of the Igbos in the past.
It seems to me that it's mostly non-Igbos who like to comment on the prevalence of light skinned people amongst the Igbos. nah gurl its igbo that like to boast that they are lightskin. get it right now |
