“Fame, Money, Attention Hungry People Are the Worst Friends” — Hilda Baci Speaks Out

Nigerian celebrity chef and two-time Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has shared a candid message about toxic friendships, warning against keeping close relationships with people driven primarily by fame, attention, or financial gain.

Her comments come months after the public fallout between her and former close friend Ama Reginald, a situation that drew significant attention on social media. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Speaking in a recent reflection, Baci explained that individuals who are excessively focused on clout, money, or public engagement can negatively impact both personal wellbeing and public reputation.

According to her, such people may exploit one’s image or association without considering the consequences.

“The worst kind of people to be friends with are people that are fame hungry, engagement hungry, money hungry, attention hungry,” she said.

The celebrity chef further noted that some individuals may damage another person’s reputation without remorse, sometimes dismissing concerns as harmless mistakes when confronted.

“These people will launder your image with no single care and it’s a lot more scary when you point this thing out and then they act oblivious or they say, ‘Oh, it was a harmless mistake, oh I didn’t know,’” she added.

Baci emphasized the need for discernment in choosing friendships, urging people to seek wisdom to identify unhealthy relationships early and protect themselves emotionally and professionally.

“Honestly, we just need to pray to God for discernment,” she said.

Her remarks highlight the challenges public figures often face in maintaining genuine relationships while navigating fame and influence, particularly in the age of social media visibility.

RomanceWe Are 39 & 35, We’re Tired Of Praying — Sisters Publicly Beg For Husbands by alphonsojidebab(op): 9:30am On Feb 21

“We Are 39 and 35, We’re Tired of Praying” — Sisters Publicly Beg Nigerians for Husbands

Two Nigerian sisters have sparked widespread reactions on social media after making a public appeal for husbands, citing years of unsuccessful prayers and fasting in their search for life partners.

The women, identified as Adeze and Amaka, shared their emotional request in a video that has since gone viral across multiple platforms, drawing sympathy, criticism, and debate among Nigerians. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

In the clip, the sisters introduced themselves and disclosed their ages — 39 and 35 — explaining that they had made several spiritual efforts over the years in hopes of getting married but had not been successful.

They stated that they were no longer worried about public opinion or possible embarrassment, adding that their decision to speak openly was driven by frustration and exhaustion after what they described as prolonged waiting.

According to them, the move was not made lightly but became necessary after repeated prayers, fasting, and personal efforts failed to produce the desired outcome.

The video has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians online. While some users expressed empathy and encouraged them, others questioned the approach, offering different opinions about relationships, timing, and societal expectations surrounding marriage.

Some commentators also used the opportunity to discuss the pressure placed on women regarding marriage, particularly as they grow older, while others emphasized self-development and patience.

The sisters’ public appeal has continued to trend, highlighting broader conversations about marriage expectations, societal norms, and the emotional toll of delayed relationships in contemporary Nigerian society.

Christianity EtcWe Went To Beg Oyedepo For School Fees — Nurse Shares Why He Almost Quit Church by alphonsojidebab(op): 9:13am On Feb 21
A Nigerian nurse has recounted an emotional experience from 2016 involving renowned cleric David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, revealing how the encounter nearly shook his faith and commitment to church attendance.

The man, identified on social media platform X as @Nrs_Danie, narrated that he had struggled for years to secure admission into the Lagos State School of Nursing, succeeding only after his fourth attempt. However, his joy was short-lived as he lacked the ₦230,000 required to pay tuition, with school authorities giving him just one month before forfeiting the admission. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to his account, he and his mother, who lived in Abule Egba area of Lagos, left home as early as 5 a.m. to travel to Sango Ota, Ogun State, where the church headquarters is located, hoping to seek financial assistance from the cleric.

He explained that they had been active members of the church for about three years, participating in services, prayers, and fasting programmes, which strengthened their belief that they might receive support.

They reportedly positioned themselves along the route where the bishop would pass before his morning service, waiting for an opportunity to speak with him.

When the cleric eventually arrived, the man said he and his mother rushed forward to plead for help but were stopped by security personnel.

He claimed that the bishop responded by advising them to apply for a bursary from the Lagos State Government instead.

The response, he said, left him devastated, considering the emotional and physical effort it took to gain admission after several attempts.

The nurse admitted that the incident affected him deeply and almost caused him to question his faith in God. However, he later came to the realization that religious leaders are human and that faith should be centered on God rather than individuals.

He emphasized that leaving church because of a pastor’s action would mean one’s faith was misplaced.

Despite the disappointment, he eventually completed his nursing education without financial assistance from the cleric and now works abroad as a nurse.

Reflecting on his journey, he said the experience strengthened his belief that personal faith and determination are more important than reliance on any religious figure.

Let me tell you a story I’ve not told anyone but today I am ready:

In 2016, I got admission into Lagos State School of Nursing and I had no way of paying school fees (N230,000), I had one month to forfeit my admission so one morning my mother and i woke up 5am, decided to dress up and go meet Bishop David Oyedepo (GO of winners chapel) and beg him for even half of my school fees. We had been in the church believing, praying, fasting and attending service for three years atleast let me try ask for help.

We got to the church at 6:30am because we live in abuleegba, we had to take long transport to sango Ota (that’s how much I had faith and believe this would work).

Getting to the church my mum and I positioned ourselves close to where Oyedepo will pass when going for his first morning service. I was full of hope and i could see my mum mumbling prayers. We waited for an hour for him to come out and immediately he stepped out, my mum and I were the first to rush to him before others could, he had about 8 men on dark suit guarding him, my mum started screaming “Papa you are our hope, my son papa he just got admission papa help

I can’t tell you how bad I feel right now thinking and writing about this, I joined my mum to plead too, the men blocked my mum and won’t even let us get an inch closeOyedepo replied “go ask for bursary from Lagos state government

I immediately felt weak, my eyes red and tiredness overwhelmed me, I wrote nursing school exam four times and this was the first time i got admission and might be the last!

We left the church that day in silence, my mum couldn’t look at me until we got home, I told her I was going to sleep because we woke up too early but while inside the house I cried so bad that day I almost stopped believing God exist. But do you know what? I told myself Oyedepo is a human and servant of God. God is the master of the universe and Oyedepo doesn’t even come close.

Today I want to tell you that I finished nursing school and I am now abroad working as a nurse, without Oyedepo paying my school fees, trust me it didn’t stop me from going to church 😂 nope I’m sorry the disappoint you, but it made me believe that all pastors are mere mortal and human just like me and you and they have no power like God or Jesus His son. If you leave church because of a pastor it means you were in the wrong church, we have only few church in Nigeria that the presence of God is residing in, all of them are full of politics and agendas but the day you will find a church that lets you serve God and doesn’t force you to pay tithes, threaten you to fast, have classism mentality or judge you based on your presentation…

That day you know that serving God is a personal thing and not a “church” thing, the church is there to preach and guide but your personal relationship with God is the most important!

Thanks for reading 🙏

This story isn’t to make Oyedepo look bad 😂 but those who really gets the story will key into it

But his hard core followers that do not reason with logic will feel attacked 🙏

PoliticsLagos Housewife On Trial For Allegedly Harbouring Girls For Prostitution by alphonsojidebab(op): 11:18am On Feb 20
A 32-year-old housewife, Tina Williams, is currently standing trial before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos over allegations of harbouring three young girls for the purpose of prostitution.

The case was instituted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which arraigned the defendant on a four-count charge bordering on human trafficking and related offences. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to the charge filed by a team of NAPTIP’s senior legal officers, Williams, said to reside at No. 4 Metanmi Street, Eyeyellow, Sango Ota area of Ogun State, allegedly harboured three girls aged 15, 19, and 19 in October 2024 within the court’s jurisdiction, with knowledge that they would be exploited for prostitution.

The prosecution maintained that the alleged actions contravene Section 15(b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, which prescribes penalties for individuals involved in trafficking-related offences.

NAPTIP also accused the defendant of conspiring with two other suspects identified as Kingsley and Ibukunmi, also known as Blessing, who are currently at large.

The agency alleged that the trio organised the movement of two of the victims from Nigeria to neighbouring Togo to facilitate prostitution activities.

The defendant, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is currently on bail pending the conclusion of the trial.

At the resumed hearing, the court adjourned the matter until April 14, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.

PoliticsPENGASSAN Warns Tinubu’s Oil Revenue Order Could Put 4,000 Jobs At Risk by alphonsojidebab(op): 9:35am On Feb 20
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to withdraw a recent Executive Order directing that oil and gas revenues be paid directly into the Federation Account, warning that the policy could endanger about 4,000 jobs and destabilise Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos, the union’s president, Festus Osifo, argued that the directive conflicts with provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), enacted in 2021 to reform and provide stability for the industry. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Osifo questioned the implications of implementing an executive order that appears to override an existing law, noting that such actions could erode investor confidence.

According to him, the directive may create uncertainty about Nigeria’s regulatory framework and discourage both local and international investment in the sector.

He also clarified that statutory royalties are paid into government accounts rather than to regulators personally, adding that certain provisions within the order did not fully reflect how industry funds are structured.

The PENGASSAN president warned that if the order remains unchanged, oil companies may struggle to meet operational and financial obligations, potentially leading to layoffs among workers.

He stressed that thousands of employees could face redundancy in the coming months if the situation is not addressed.

Osifo recalled that the PIA was introduced after years of declining investment, with the goal of creating predictability and clear rules for investors.

He emphasised that oil and gas remain Nigeria’s primary source of revenue and foreign exchange, noting that any disruption to production could weaken the naira and worsen economic conditions for citizens.

The union leader also highlighted the capital-intensive nature of the industry, stating that some drilling operations can cost as much as $1.5 million per day, making policy consistency critical to sustaining investor participation.

Osifo added that stakeholders had expected any changes to come through a formal amendment bill rather than an executive directive.

He said the union was not consulted before the order was issued and urged the government to engage industry players to prevent negative consequences for the economy and workforce.

CareerTwo Bank Security Guards Lose Their Jobs After Sharing ₦20,000 ATM Cash by alphonsojidebab(op): 9:18am On Feb 20
Sometimes, the way people steal at the workplace, you just wonder what they were thinking.

Two security men just lost their jobs at a bank because of 20k.

According to the gist, a customer went to the ATM on a weekend to withdraw cash. After entering the amount, the machine didn’t dispense the money immediately, so he assumed the transaction failed, took his card, and left.

After a few minutes, the ATM dispensed the cash
.

The security man on duty saw the cash, picked it up, and took it to the Chief Security Officer.

Instead of logging it properly, the man shared the money, gave his colleague 10k and kept 10k for himself.

The following week, the customer noticed he had been debited and went to the bank to complain.

They checked and told him the transaction was successful, that the cash was dispensed on the same day.

He kept going back and forth, insisting he never received the money.

Eventually, the bank manager decided to review the CCTV footage for that day.

That was when everything was exposed.

Both men were asked to leave their jobs immediately, all because of 20k.

Imagine losing your source of livelihood over peanuts.

If salary is not enough, overtime is never enough.

Two security personnel attached to a commercial bank have reportedly been dismissed after allegedly sharing ₦20,000 that was mistakenly dispensed by an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

The incident, which gained attention on X (formerly Twitter), has triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians debating workplace integrity, accountability, and the consequences of poor judgment. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to details shared by a user on the social media platform, a bank customer had visited the ATM gallery during the weekend to withdraw cash.

After initiating a transaction, the machine reportedly delayed releasing the money. Assuming the withdrawal had failed, the customer removed his debit card and left the premises.

However, shortly after the customer departed, the ATM dispensed the requested ₦20,000.

It was alleged that two security guards on duty at the location noticed the unattended cash, took possession of it, and later shared the money between themselves instead of reporting the incident to bank officials.

Sources claimed that the issue came to light after the affected customer later discovered that his bank account had been debited despite not receiving the cash.

Following a review of the ATM footage, the guards were reportedly identified and subsequently relieved of their duties by the bank management.

While the bank involved has not officially commented on the development, the story has continued to generate mixed reactions, with some Nigerians condemning the guards’ actions while others questioned whether dismissal was too severe considering the amount involved.

The development has sparked conversations about ethics in the workplace, particularly for employees in sensitive positions that require a high level of trust.

Some commentators argued that honesty should not be determined by the amount involved, while others expressed sympathy, citing economic hardship and low wages often associated with private security jobs.

FamilyI Became A Lesbian After I Caught My Husband Sleeping With My Nanny by alphonsojidebab(op): 7:14am On Feb 18
I became a lesbian after I caught my husband sleeping with my nanny and I divorced him.

I met a new group of friends on Facebook, told them about my husband and how he cheated on me with my nanny. They told me to forget about my husband and live a happy life.

I joined them, they helped me heal, we started travelling and having fun.

Little did I know that they were lesbians.

They introduced me to using intimacy gadgets and lesbianism.

When I complained that I wasn't used to that lifestyle, they introduced me to a younger man to satisfy me sexually.

All these women are divorced. And using child support to sponsor their lifestyle.

Seeing myself doing this, I got more bitter and want to go back to my husband.

I don't know how to start the process.

PoliticsWhy I Chose ‘Weakness’ In My Battle Against Wike — Governor Fubara by alphonsojidebab(op): 8:52am On Feb 14
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has explained that his decision to adopt what critics described as “weakness” during his political confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was deliberate and aimed at preserving peace and stability.

The governor made the remarks on Friday in Lagos while receiving a Man of the Year award at the New Telegraph Award/Dinner Night, where he reflected on leadership challenges, political tensions, and reconciliation efforts in Rivers State. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to Fubara, his approach to the prolonged crisis had often been misunderstood by observers.

“Today for me is a very special day, and also special for everyone who has believed in me, and I know for believing in me, you have a share of special pain,” he said.

Addressing the political strain that has affected governance in the state, the governor stated that choosing restraint was necessary to protect lives, institutions, and national interests.

“Some of these pains, some persons describe them as weakness, while others say it as being strong, but I choose for a lot of reasons to be weak. Weak, because I want peace.
Weak, because we need to survive. Weak, because I need to also protect those things that are dear, not just to me, but to our dear nation.”

He added that patience and restraint should not always be interpreted as vulnerability.

“Weakness is a virtue. It pays at the right time.”

In a notable gesture, Fubara dedicated the award to Wike, his predecessor and political benefactor, acknowledging his role in his political emergence.

“I do not care how you interpret it or misinterpret it, I also dedicate this award to somebody who also discovered me… the Honourable Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike.
He discovered me, and it is the discovery that gave me this loudness,” he said.

The governor also thanked his family and the people of Rivers State for their patience and maturity throughout months of political uncertainty.

Fubara’s comments come amid recent indications of easing tensions between the two leaders following mediation efforts reportedly led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The political rivalry between Wike and Fubara began shortly after the governor assumed office in May 2023 and led to divisions within the Rivers State House of Assembly, impeachment threats, and governance uncertainty.

However, recent developments suggest possible stabilisation, including reconciliation moves and renewed engagement among political actors in the state.

Wike had earlier expressed optimism about the peace process, noting that presidential intervention played a significant role in restoring calm.

“Try Everything to Make Your In-Laws Like You” — Omotola Jalade Ekeinde Advises Couples

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has sparked conversations online after sharing her thoughts on how spouses should handle in-laws who may not immediately accept them.

The award-winning actress gave the advice during a recent interview with TVC host Morayo Afolabi Brown, where she spoke candidly about marriage, family dynamics, and the importance of building healthy relationships beyond one’s spouse. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to Omotola, couples should make genuine and consistent efforts to win the hearts of their in-laws, even when acceptance does not come easily.

She noted that patience, understanding, and deliberate actions can gradually bridge differences and foster harmony within the family.

Omotola explained that while such efforts may not always yield immediate results, they are often necessary to maintain peace and stability in marriage.

The veteran actress further stressed that marriage on its own comes with challenges, and unresolved family tensions can make the journey even more difficult.

She pointed out that a lack of support from in-laws can place additional emotional strain on couples, making it harder to navigate marital responsibilities.

According to her, having family backing — or at least reducing hostility — can significantly ease the pressures that come with married life.

Omotola’s remarks have since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users agreeing with her perspective, while others argued that mutual respect should be a two-way effort between spouses and their families.

FamilyWoman Divorces Husband Over Polygamy, Later Becomes Third Wife In New Marriage by alphonsojidebab(op): 7:18am On Feb 13
A woman’s complicated marital journey has sparked widespread debate on social media after reports revealed that she eventually became the third wife in another marriage, years after divorcing her first husband for choosing polygamy.

According to accounts circulating online, the woman had supported her former husband through law school, reportedly selling personal properties to help him complete his education. Friends and associates claimed she stood by him during his most difficult years, believing they were building a secure future together.

Trouble reportedly began shortly after the man completed his studies and secured his desired job. He was said to have informed his wife of his decision to take a second wife, a move she strongly opposed.

Sources claimed the woman made it clear that she was unwilling to remain in a polygamous marriage and demanded a divorce. Her husband was initially reluctant, but later agreed following pressure from her family members.

The marriage was eventually dissolved, with custody of their three children reportedly awarded to the man. The woman was said to have left the union with little financial support.

Following the separation, she reportedly remained single for about four years, a period described by those close to her as emotionally and financially challenging.

After years of rebuilding her life, the woman later accepted a marriage proposal from another man. However, the decision drew attention after it emerged that the suitor already had two wives, making her the third wife in the marriage.

The development has since generated mixed reactions across social media platforms, with users expressing varying opinions on her choices.

An X user identified as Latif questioned the decision, asking why she would agree to a polygamous marriage after previously rejecting one.

Another user, Ken, suggested that the realities she faced after divorce may have influenced her choice.

Offering a broader perspective, Lebia wrote that life often involves crossing paths with people who have been in similar situations before, describing relationships as a cycle.

A user identified as Ghost argued that the story reflects the challenges many divorced women face, adding that societal realities often limit their options, a statement that has also drawn criticism from other users.

The story continues to trend online, reigniting conversations about marriage, divorce, polygamy, gender expectations, and societal pressure in modern relationships.

2027: ADC Lacks Sensible Leaders Like Tinubu — Baba-Ahmed

Labour Party chieftain and former vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has raised concerns about the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its ability to field a strong candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on the emerging ADC coalition, which is being closely watched as a potential opposition platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Baba-Ahmed questioned the party’s leadership depth, saying it lacks figures with the political experience and influence of leaders like Tinubu or the late President Muhammadu Buhari. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

“They don’t have a Buhari or a Tinubu in the ADC. Tinubu has a lot of sense. They don’t have it in ADC,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed also cautioned that internal disagreements could emerge depending on who secures the party’s presidential ticket.

“If Atiku wins the ADC ticket, others will have a problem with it. If Obi or Amaechi wins the ticket, other candidates will have a problem with it,” he added.

The ADC coalition, which brings together several opposition figures and parties — including former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar — is positioning itself as a potential contender in the 2027 elections.

Baba-Ahmed’s comments underscore the challenges the coalition could face in uniting behind a single candidate, as it seeks to consolidate its influence ahead of the next general election.

A young woman has sparked widespread emotional reactions online after opening up about her internal struggle with ending her engagement to a man she describes as loving, supportive, and kind.

According to her account, the couple had been together for two years and shared what she called a deeply fulfilling relationship built on love, laughter, growth, and shared dreams for the future. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

PropertiesTop 10 Cheapest Areas To Rent A Two-bedroom Apartment In Lagos (2026) by alphonsojidebab(op): 7:55am On Feb 05
Two-bedroom apartments remain one of the most sought-after rental options in Lagos, offering a practical balance of space, comfort, and affordability. They are especially popular among small families, young professionals, and shared renters navigating the city’s increasingly expensive housing market.

With rents steadily rising across Lagos amid a persistent housing supply gap, affordability has become a critical factor for many residents—often requiring compromises on proximity, infrastructure, or convenience. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Understanding where value meets accessibility is therefore essential for anyone looking to rent within budget.

This ranking is based on data from The Lagos Residential Market Report, which tracks average rental prices across the state. The list highlights the 10 most affordable areas to rent a two-bedroom apartment in Lagos as of 2026.

10. Festac Town — ₦1.5 Million Per Year

Festac Town ranks as the 10th cheapest area to rent a two-bedroom apartment in Lagos, with an average annual rent of ₦1.5 million.

Located in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Festac is a federally planned housing estate originally built for the 1977 Second World Black and African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC ’77).

Designed as a structured community with over 5,000 housing units across seven major avenues, the estate benefited from strong government-backed infrastructure. Over time, relaxed ownership restrictions allowed Festac to evolve into an active rental market.

Its organised road network, multiple access routes from the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, and connectivity via the Festac Link Bridge continue to attract tenants working along Lagos’ western corridor.

9. Ajegunle — ₦1.4 Million Per Year

Ajegunle ranks ninth, with average two-bedroom rents at ₦1.4 million annually.

Situated in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, Ajegunle borders Apapa Wharf and Tin Can Island Port, making it strategically located near two of Nigeria’s busiest seaports.

While the area has long struggled with overcrowding, infrastructure deficits, and security concerns, recent years have seen private-sector-led urban renewal, including modern residential buildings, hotels, and event centres.

Markets such as Ajegunle Market, Boundary Market, and the central bus terminal support daily commerce, while proximity to Ajeromi General Hospital and Navy Town adds to its functional appeal. Traffic congestion remains a major challenge.

8. Agege — ₦1.2 Million Per Year

Agege is the eighth cheapest area to rent a two-bedroom apartment in Lagos, with an average rent of ₦1.2 million per year.

The neighbourhood stretches from Dopemu Road to Abeokuta Expressway and is known for its vibrant commercial activity, supported by major markets such as Abattoir Meat Market and Alade Market.

Key landmarks include the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Agege Stadium, and the Pen Cinema Flyover, which has improved traffic flow.

The Babatunde Fashola Railway Station, opened in 2021, connects Agege to Ogun and Oyo States, enhancing regional mobility. Residential estates like Sunshine Estate and New Dairy Farm Housing Estate cater to families and working professionals.

7. Oshodi — ₦1.1 Million Per Year

Oshodi ranks seventh, with average two-bedroom rents of ₦1.1 million annually.

A major commercial and transport hub on the Lagos Mainland, Oshodi’s importance dates back to the early 1900s, when it served as a key colonial trade route.

It is home to Oshodi Market, one of West Africa’s largest, alongside Arena Market and Bolade Market. The area also hosts the Oshodi Transport Interchange, a modern facility linking BRT buses and multiple city routes through three multi-storey terminals equipped with security and passenger amenities.

Bordered by Mushin, Surulere, Somolu, and Alimosho, Oshodi remains a fast-paced urban centre balancing commerce, culture, and infrastructure.

6. Mushin — ₦1.1 Million Per Year

Mushin ranks sixth, with an average annual rent of ₦1.1 million for a two-bedroom apartment.

Established in 1955, Mushin has grown into a vibrant mix of residential and commercial activity. Major roads like Agege Motor Road and Ikorodu Road provide strong connectivity, supported by buses and tricycles.

Markets such as Ojuwoye and Ladipo attract traders from across Lagos, while small-scale manufacturing and workshops sustain the local economy.

Despite challenges like traffic congestion and waste management, Mushin offers schools, healthcare facilities, and recreational spaces that support daily life.

PoliticsDo You Pay Tax? Reno Omokri Reacts To Hospital Blame Over Nanyah’s Death by alphonsojidebab(op): 7:41am On Feb 05
Former presidential aide and social commentator, Reno Omokri, has stirred widespread reactions online after questioning Nigerians who blame the government and hospitals for medical tragedies, asking whether they contribute enough through taxes and health insurance to demand world-class healthcare.

Omokri’s comments followed public outrage over the death of fast-rising singer Ifunanya Nwangene (popularly known as Nanyah), who reportedly died after suffering complications from a snake bite when several hospitals allegedly declined to treat her. A similar controversy had earlier trailed the death of Arise TV journalist, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, before further findings cleared medical personnel of wrongdoing. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Reacting in a lengthy statement, Omokri expressed sympathy for the victims and their families but argued that many of the criticisms directed at hospitals are often emotional rather than practical.

According to him, healthcare delivery—especially in private hospitals—is not a charity service and must be sustainably funded to function effectively.

Omokri explained that private hospitals operate under strict financial realities, noting that treating patients without insurance, payment, or a financial guarantor often exposes hospitals to unpaid bills, legal disputes, and reputational damage.

He claimed that many Nigerians abandon hospitals after treatment without settling their bills, and when pressured, resort to social media campaigns that paint hospitals as heartless, often attracting public sympathy and police intervention.

This, he argued, is why many hospitals hesitate to provide emergency care without financial guarantees.

The former presidential aide urged Nigerians to enroll in health insurance schemes, including the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) or private insurance providers, stressing that emergency healthcare access largely depends on preparedness.

“People cannot expect hospitals to invest expensive, life-saving treatments on patients who have no insurance, no funds, and no guarantors,” he said, adding that responsibility lies with individuals to plan for emergencies.

Omokri also questioned the popular belief that Nigeria is an oil-rich country capable of funding world-class healthcare for free.

Using economic comparisons, he argued that Nigeria’s oil revenue, when divided among its over 230 million population, makes the country far from wealthy. He contrasted Nigeria with countries like Qatar, which has a much smaller population but significantly higher oil income per capita.

He further noted that in developed countries often referenced by Nigerians, citizens pay high taxes—sometimes up to 38% of income—and unpaid medical bills are aggressively recovered through courts, asset seizure, wage garnishment, or immigration sanctions.

Omokri concluded by challenging Nigerians who demand advanced healthcare systems without paying taxes, contributing to insurance schemes, or saving for emergencies.

He warned that without tax compliance, insurance culture, and personal financial responsibility, healthcare crises will continue to recur, regardless of public outrage.

“If you can afford luxury phones, nightlife, and expensive lifestyles but have no health insurance or emergency savings, then something is fundamentally wrong,” he stated.

His remarks have since generated intense debate across social media platforms, with many agreeing on the need for insurance reform, while others argue that emergency healthcare should never be denied regardless of financial status.

Celebrities“No Diddy, No Grammy” — Speed Darlington Mocks Nigerian Stars After 2026 Grammy by alphonsojidebab(op): 9:02am On Feb 03
Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington, popularly known as Akpi, has ignited widespread reactions on social media following his controversial response to Nigeria’s poor outing at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The outspoken entertainer took to social media to mock Nigerian music stars after they failed to secure wins in competitive categories, despite earning multiple nominations at the prestigious event. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The 2026 Grammy Awards, held in Los Angeles, saw South African singer Tyla emerge victorious in the Best African Music Performance category. Her win edged out Nigerian heavyweights including Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Omah Lay, and Ayra Starr.

As a result, Nigeria left the ceremony without a single competitive Grammy award, a development that left many Afrobeats fans disappointed, especially amid the genre’s continued global dominance.

Reacting to the outcome, Speed Darlington shared a video recorded on the streets of New York City, where he sarcastically commented on the Grammy results. In the clip, he coined the phrase “No Diddy, No Grammy,” a statement many interpreted as a jab at the perceived politics and external influence surrounding the awards.

The video quickly gained traction online, drawing mixed reactions. While some viewers found the clip humorous and provocative, others criticized the rapper for ridiculing Nigerian artists who have played major roles in pushing Afrobeats to international prominence.

As expected, the video has fueled fresh debates about the Grammy Awards’ treatment of African music, the politics behind global recognition, and Nigeria’s standing within the international music industry.
