I tried to kill myself two times. I was really depressed - Tiwa Savage Confeses

Nigerian songstress Tiwa Savage has recently confessed in a video of attempting to commit suicide on multiple occasions.

The songstress revealed in an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on ‘Bounce Live Radio’ where she disclosed that she nearly took her own life after she was bullied as a black kid in London. She said she moved to London with her mother at age 10 and also stated that her strong Nigerian assent was being mocked by her friends in school.

In her own words: “I was teased so bad. They used to call me ‘African girl’, ‘Foo foo’, ‘Your food smells’ and so on. It was terrible. It was so bad that I literally tried to kill myself two times. I was really depressed.”

Over 400 personnel have been part of the commencement of the new police unit called Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT).

The police unit kicked off with training on Monday at the Police Mobile College in Eggon, Nasarawa State.

Nigeria’s Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi, and other officials were present to inspect the training exercise.

Dingyadi expressed delight in the progress the personnel was making and charged them to be good role models of the society.

“I believe at the end of this exercise you are going to come out as very dedicated and very committed mobile police officers who will be equal to the task we have assigned to you” he added.

”Your new responsibility as a replacement to SARS is to face the challenges of armed robbery and other crimes across the country.”

He also acknowledged the changing times and advised the personnel to uphold the principles of democracy and human rights as they get set to carry out their new task.

Following the #EndSARS protests by Nigerian youths against the highhandedness and brutality by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force, the Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, today inaugurated a Judicial Panel of Inquiry to probe cases of human rights abuses.

Inaugurating the panel at the Government House in Jos, the governor said the panel was set up to address the violation of citizens’ rights in the state.

According to him, in the terms of reference, the panel is to receive complaints, petitions from members of the public, identify the culprits and proffer recommendations to the state government.

Lalong, who stated that the panel is to submit its report within six months, promised that the government would implement its recommendations and prosecute the erring police officers.

The panel, which will be headed by a retired Judge of the Plateau State High Court, Justice Philomena Lot, has other members as: Commissioner of Police Garba Patrick (rtd); Mr. Ezekiel Dauda Daschen (youth representative); Mrs. Rauta Dakok (representative of Attorney General’s Office); and Mrs. Kyempia Mafuyai (representative of Human Rights Commission).

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has reacted to allegations that the government paid her to cast doubts about the Lekki toll gate shooting.

The actress denied these allegations and said she has never been bribed by the government. She added that she can't be lured by money and went on to explain the reason for her statement.

Omotola said she realized that it appeared the authorities were trying to deny people were killed at the Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020, so her tweets were aimed at stating that whether anyone died or not doesn't change the fact that a crime happened and innocent unarmed protesters were shot at.

She said her tweet was misconstrued and people began assuming she had been paid.

The tweet from Omotola that cause outrage reads: "If People died during the Lekki Toll Assault , let their people speak out please and if there were No deaths then enough with the sensationalization because it does not remove from the Crime that happened."

She was called out for it and she later deleted the tweet then apologized and explained herself in follow-up tweets.

You Know It’s Really Bad When A Human Being Steals A Toilet - Donald Duke

A former Governor of Cross River, Mr. Donald Duke, has said that Nigerian youths have been neglected and left with no hopes due to wrong leadership in the country.

Duke, who spoke with newsmen on Sunday while reacting to the destruction of properties on Friday and Saturday in Calabar by some hoodlums, said the act was not normal.

He said that the youths feel abandoned and depressed with no leaders to assure them that tomorrow will be better than today, hence they took laws into their hands by destroying private and government properties.

He said that from the videos and pictures he saw on the looting in Calabar, it showed that the youths felt neglected and abandoned by leaders, leaving their future in their hands with nothing put in place for them.

“We often want to blame these happenings on criminals and miscreants, but they are no such people, we created them, they are human beings.

“I find it deplorable when people regard others as miscreants. They are our children. If you don’t provide for them, train them and give them hope, they will take laws into their hands; but the point is we need to rise up and correct these things.

“We must mean what we say and say what we mean. When the youths feel that your words are empty statements, they won’t take you seriously anymore,” he said.

He noted that if the tragic incident that occurred in Calabar should happen again in Calabar, then the state is “finished”.

Duke, who charged the government to be ready to find solutions to the problems, said that the uniqueness of the state hospitality has been affected.

“The youths have been bruised and we need to address that and heal their scars. My desire is to reach out to them, speak to them and ask for forgiveness; so that we can forgive them too and create a better society.

“We love Cross River, the soonest we come out, we will encourage others to do the same. We need the support of everyone to do this. We should encourage the government to succeed, regardless of what we think.

“Some of the protesters are idle, if they are employed, they won’t be on the streets. You can’t say you have a right to life without given a right to livelihood.

“You know it’s really bad when You dehumanize a Human Being to the point where He has to steal a toilet, When you see someone carting away a used toilet base, you should know there is a big problem. We need to help our young people to succeed. We need to educate, equip and sustain them,” he said.

He said that the furniture, cars, and other properties that were destroyed can be replaced, but no human life can be replaced, hence the youths should sheath their swords.

According to him, the youths were passing a strong message to the leaders, not through words that are loud enough.

Early this morning, some hoodlums in Dogon Dutse invaded the Plateau State Agricultural Development Programme warehouse located in the community in search of COVID-19 palliative, Despite the reinstated 24-hour curfew following the breaking of warehouses in Bukuru and Jos, the hoodlums again broke into the warehouse of the Plateau State Agricultural Development Programme (PADP) in Dogon Dutse, carting away Fertilizers, Chemicals Generators, and other items.

However, Men of Operation Safe Haven today paraded 97 males and 12 Females in connection with the PADP Loot.
According to the STF, they destroyed and stole Fertilizers, Chemicals Generators, and other items.

Yesterday, around 6 people were reportedly killed at a palliative warehouse at Db Zang road Nitel Office, due to various degrees of injuries sustained from Gun wounds, stampede, and falling off the warehouse building.

2 warehouses packed to the brim with relief materials were discovered at the Db Zang road Nitel Office, in Plateau state, in the middle belt region of Nigeria.

Youths quickly flung into action breaking the door and began distribution before armed military men in armored tanks were deployed to the location to chase away the crowd and guard the palliative warehouse.

As at the time of writing, Trucks were seen coming to convey the CACOVID palliative to another location for safekeeping.
