Hi guys, This interesting topic caught my attention and I could not help but share my thoughts on it. So I heard recently that our Senator, Ben Murray Bruce celebrated his birthday in grand style spending about 200 million on the dinning arrangements alone. Naturally I won’t be bothered about a Nigerian showing off his affluence but this guy has moved the heart of masses with his “I just want to make common sense movement”. He preaches about how the government should improve the economy via different means: better security, cutting back on government expenditure, reducing national assembly member benefits, improving the economic sectors… If you have ever listened to the moving speeches he gives, you can testify that you would be moved to be a better citizen and worry about the economic situation of my country, contributing in every little way you can,. You can imagine my surprise when I got home and I heard that the beloved of the masses spent “200 million naira” on his birthday dinner. I don’t know if this is true but remember that saying “Every rumour has an element of truth” My thoughts It would have made more sense if he spent that money on something worthwhile, say giving back to the society (orphanages, schools, slum children…), some people might say he’s already doing that but having a cinema that sells overpriced popcorn to the masses isn’t giving back, having a television station that’s crap most of the time isn’t giving back, organising beauty pageants which show off the mediocrity of Nigerians isn’t really giving back in the real sense of the word. Word is he wrote a new book “The common sense revolution” which he shared for free at his birthday/book launch party. That would have made sense if the reading culture in Nigeria is what it was way back then, truth is more than half of the people that got that book won’t read it, they’d keep it as a monument to attest to the fact that they got invited to the Bruce party and attended. Some of you might be thinking “but it’s his money” but… If you attack someone for doing something you deem “wrong” isn’t it only right that you strive not to do that which you’ve judged others for? You can’t come out everyday on national TV and tell the government to cut back on spending frivolously and go ahead and spend that amount on a birthday/book launch forgetting that you are also a part of that government. It goes on to further buttress the fact that Nigerian politicians are hypocrites, they say one thing now and do another. Doing all they can so that they can win the hearts of the masses and save their votes for the next election day is what Nigerian politicians do. The first time I heard a common sense speech from Ben Bruce, I was happy that at least one of the people in “power” is bold enough to stand up to the government and tell them what they are doing wrong and what they could do to fix it. What made me even happier was the fact that he was a senator and he could do something about it even if not out rightly but he could try on our behalf, I thought he was going to be the voice of the masses to the government, but as time went on I began to realise that all these common sense speeches were just a publicity stunt. A means to show Nigerians that he is not just occupying a senatorial seat but he is “working” (I put that in quotes because I do not see what he has done apart from organise more unnecessary pageants). I think that seat is just a means to expand his business reach which I term strategic thinking (Thumbs up on that one). It is okay to be smart about business but it is not okay to play on the intelligence of innocent people. This might feel like a “biting the hand that fed you situation” to you Ben but what you should really be thinking is what have I really fed them. Hope, truth or overpriced popcorn? Cos it’s definitely not common sense. The name is Cat and I just made common sense. Check categuhblogs for more write ups

Got a job in another bank where I did test two months after the union bank test. I don't think these ppl are ready to hire anybody or did they have second thoughts along the way? It's quite unfortunate that they'll keep ppl waiting this long without any word or msg to help keep our hopes alive haba since 2 July 2014 nothing . |
